The Museum of the Bogd Khaan - Castle in Ondorhaan, Mongolia
Easy to go in the middle of town, photo shoot cost some price
lts worth visiting. The most interesting place is Winter Palace. Who could have thought that there l could see the yurt made of leopard s skin, exquisite Chinese porcelain and elegant wooden furniture.
The museum is a little run down but perhaps that is where the charm lies.
Good place pretty historically accurate stuff but its cold so wear warm things
The condition of the pavement is not well maintained Many parts of the building is not restored Museum collection is average
Very nice palace. I can highly recommend a visit. Is in a good shape and also the museum has some really good objects especially the animal collection of the Khan is impressive
Fascinating place, well worth a visit. No photos allowed inside the palace compound - the ones with this report are from outside
A special temple and many contents on Buddhism but there were preparations for a private ceremony and another private photo capturing makes my visit uncomfortable...
It was a precious vacation for me. Getting the knowledge about Mongolias XX centuries history and religious philosophy of Buddhism
Spectacularly colourful and complex blended architecture in the forms of both a Summer and Winter Palace. Like most museums in the city, theres a charge for admission and an extra charge to take photos. I kind of regret not getting the photo pass. However, you can still take photos of the outside. The Winter Palace which looks more Western in design and white, was actually created with Russian architecture and design in mind. The Summer Palace, however, had a more Buddhist royal style and structure. One of the large gates was even built with no nails, instead substituting them for complex interlocking wooden joints. The history that is offered up along with the feats for the eyes make this a great museum.
Great historical & famous place of Mongolia
Its has newly refreshed garden with great many sculptures for the ancient Hunnu time.
The complex was built between 1893 and 1903 named The temple of developing wisdom and dedicated to the 8th Bogd Jetsun Dampa, the head of Mongolian religion.
This museum is a little bit small but thats about Mongolians last king. And whos used furniture, pets and more things like that. One of the Mongolians history. Ill say check it out.
Sacred place #BogdKhaan #LastEmperor
I was looking for a steak joint. Not expecting this one. I loved it. The BBQs really grilled, and the decor was fabulous. The steak itself? Heavenly.Such an amazing place.
An important cultural treasure, but sadly needs a lot of renovation and care to survive the years to come.
There are 7 palaces in total. Worth to check out especially the winter palace! Surprised to see lots of Chinese Traditional Tales crafted on the building!
Only happened by it walking but i thought it was so fascinating, the cultural design, architecture all derived from years of Mongolian empire which once was much larger and far more spectacular then any of its time.Good reads include babaars history of mongolia and the travels of marco polo.
Love the ancient architecture. Great statues that embraces how religious civilization from India has transanded to Mongolia and China. An eye opener.
Really worth the visit. Takes about 1.5-2 hours to see everything. English signed and plan available
Love it nice historical place to visit last king of Mongolia
The abode of last emperor or shall I say king of Mongolia. Not a very big palace but his collection of stuffed animals is impressive. I personally prefer the display in Choijin Lama museum which was built for his younger brother and is similar to this place.Very few tourists but that is a big positive for me. We visited this on our walk back to the city from Zaisan memorial. If you are hungry, there are some very nice eating options just across the road.
If your wondering how one of Mongolias kings lived in the winter then you can relive it here. Its worth a look but its only that. Overall for people who like history and monarchs life, I would suggest it.
If youre in ulan bator is a place you must see!!
A cool historical museum to understand and see how life was in Mongolia before. Lots of religious portraits and art to be found inside, with a few life sized animals that the khan owned.
One of the best destination for tourist to see about Mongolian last kings Winter palace and his things. And you will see little zoo.
Small but nice. If you expect something old, beware: This entire complex was build in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Khans large collection of stuffed animals is a part of the exhibition.
Great place to understand the culture and heritage of Mongolia and the history of the past King and Queen of Mongolia. However, not alot of English translation available especially for the indoor exhibits. Phototaking is also not allowed within the premises. Show your student card for a sizeable discount!
Beautiful museum. I always enjoyed asian art and history. Great collection of buddas. You feel like in Tibet. Recommendable for a short visit
Its a good place for historian. I think everyone should visit once to know thyself. Mongolian feels proud for this museum
You ought to go check it out. Sure its full of old stuff. But it is full of the old cultural things like beautiful clothing, Royal Dels, taxidermy birds collection of rare birds from around the world. Old art and just very interesting. Short tour give yourself 1 to 1 1/2 hours . And then take a walk down to the river and take in some fresh air and sceenery!
Place where you can do some time travelling in Bogd Khan.s era
Disrepair winter palace due to the notorious Buddhism corruption, censorship and greediness. The staff ordered me to remove photos after I took photos outside of the palace, not inside. There is no signed post of no photography permits outside of the palace. Mongolia still carries Communist mentality to censor foreign tourists from taking photos in historical sites, museums and temples. Disappointment because of limited displays and disrepair condition.
This places needs a lot of TLC but it is well worth the visit. A moderate walk from the National Museum.
My favorite museum in the city. Walking through the Palace of last King of Mongolia and imagining the daily lives 100 years ago. Not so many places in thus country has kept its former condition like this house museum, almost everything else was ruined during Soviet time. There are museums thats beautiful but this left me feelings afterwards, maybe its because I am Mongolian
A few rules if you want to be a good cultural ambassador: dont take pictures (its a sacred place for Buddhist peopleand pay at the entrance to the building on your right as you walk in. They dont advertise that very well and I walked right by accident and had to pay later!
Interesting and important historical place, but not much explantation in English... Poor!
Many ancient art exhibitionsCome to this place for art, not for the temple.Because the temple is really dry so most wooden architecture are cracking, there are parts being repainted but very little. No photos inside the area unless paid.
Its the late Mongolian King who was a Buddhist monk, his singer palace turned into museum. The famous sword he bent with his mental power resides here but only shown on special occasions and certain times of the year. Ask the museum people for those days.
One of the better museums in the city - everything is well described and beautifully preserved
One of the few good sites in Ulan Bator. Must see!
This could be a grand tourist site; but, its in dire need of restoration! Photos inside the palace is an additional 10,000mnt.
Another good place to visit in Ulaambataar. There are some lovely pieces of authentic buddhist art and iconography that survived the cultural purge. This can be a little tricky to find in situ in Mongolia so definitely worth a visit. Its a little pricey and if you want to take photos or videos you have to pay a great deal more. The museum has explanations in English and provides some great insight into the reign of the last Khaans.
Very beautiful collection of historicals, nice temple, very nice Areal showing the difference between Tradition and modern asia. I didnt like the collection of stuffed animals though but i guess for somebody who is into it, it must be quite impressive.
Very beautiful palace ! A must see !
Beautiful palace museum of the last King of Mongolia
The palace of Mongolian last king Bogd khaan is one of must visit places in Ulaanbaatar. During the winter time you can only see the winter palace. But if you visit during summer, you can see the whole place
The winter palace is surrounded by temples that are now filled with art. It is all nice, though there are issues. To take photos you have to pay 6 times the entrance rate. Half the information signs are hidden behind railings. The exhibition hall was just unavailable for some reason. One of the temples was had its art removed. There was no literature for anyone who doesnt read mongolian about the winter palace
Fascinating museum of the last religious-political leader of Mongolia. Has a lot of artwork on display. Tours are available, though when we went the tour was in Mongolian.
