The Montana Club - Fine dining restaurant in Helena, United States
Yummy!! Salmon to die for! I am impressed with how tasty and perfectly cooked it was…
Great food and drinks. Friendly bartenders and staff. Still a great place for a nice evening!
I am so very sad how things have gone so downhill since I first came here a few months ago. All the great staff has left-nothing ever works deep fryer was down for what felt like months customer service-the bartenders wont even ask you what youd like to drink and seem annoyed when you do order something. Took 2 hours to get a sandwhich. Used to be such a great place just a few months ago.
Hi: I Like going to the MT. Club, atmosphere, mostly. I do notice that it is usually empty in the dining room. That is sad as I do tell my friends to go there. I was just there, ordered water, was delivered at the end of my overcooked, no cheese on my mid rare cheese burger, wrong drinks were served, no apologies, no one asked how are meals were, bar mistress was to busy talking to a patron, or emailing. OK, one more thing. Why does it take 30 minutes to cook a mid rare burger, and dont say because it was overcooked.I think I am finished going there.J. M. Cooper
Friendly and inviting. Beautiful place I highly recommend touring the building.
The Montana Club hosted our wedding ceremony and reception. They created exactly what we wanted, an intimate ceremony followed by a small reception on the second floor. The staff, food and bartenders were fantastic but Stephanie, the Manager was so incredibly helpful throughout the process of planning and helped us create the perfect evening. Highly recommend for a wedding, your next event or just dinner and cocktails!
We ate there last Saturday night to celebrate a friends birthday. The waitress was great & the food & drinks were delicious.
Never again ! My husband flew into town after a month of not seeing him bc he was on a job..we wanted a nice quiet atmosphere & meal.. food was horrible !! Waiting forever for food first of all & , I grabbed a salad & my husband had the salmon which was burnt at the bottom & basically they hurried up & cooked it bc it had been frozen or tasted like it ! $34 for his salmon! Who is running this place ?? They should be ashamed of themselves !!I don’t complain at all, so this was BAD !!!!
Second time I have been here. Food is great and the service great. They always seem to be out of menu items so ask what is available
This is in no way meant to be a scathing review, just some observations to improve local business in our area. We felt terrible telling the staff the food wasn’t very good. The ambiance is nice and the concept is that of fine dining with friendly service. The idea behind the main dishes are also a fine dining concept but the execution could use some work. The Cornish game hen and prime rib were very dry, potato gratin was crunchy, and risotto very oily and the ‘wild’ mushrooms looked more like cremini’s. However the broccoli Was done well. The asparagus was overcooked and salads were tiny with limp lettuce and the crab cakes were very average with wilted arugula on top.The Montana Club is a local spot for us so we hope this will be helpful as we’d like to return. For the high price of the food we had hoped this was going to be higher quality experience but we were unfortunately pretty disappointed.
A truly disappointing meal. It took 45 minutes for my sandwich to come. there was one other couple in the restaurant. The "diet coke" is either a knock-off brand or the owner is really watering it down. I even asked for a second glass. It was the same. The chicken-brie-bacon sandwich sounded great on the menu, but the chicken was so overcooked, it wasnt possible to eat the chunks in the sandwich. I ended up eating what I could with a fork. The fries tasted like they sat in the oven overnight.
We have a monthly womens leadership meeting here and and the food is always amazing and so is the service.
The old building is fascinating. Although not a huge selection, the food is expertly crafted the server was attentive and thoughtful.
Great food! Awesome staff! New Date night location!
Fast service. Waitress was nice. Food was gross and expensive for frozen microwaved food.
Great place for music. Limited menu due to July 4th holiday and Covid19 delivery problems.
Had a wonderful evening here. The ambience is perfect and the staff was friendly and efficient. I had a ribeye with parmesan dusted fries. Perfect portion size and the meal was delicious!
Took off 1/2 star because the building was clearly not able to support a wedding party of 300 guests as everywhere was incredibly cramped and packed and the drink lines were excessively long. Took off 1/2 star because it took better than 2 hours for my table to get our dinner, and our table was directly in the middle and in front of the groom and bride. However, the atmosphere was very nice for a wedding, the staff were very friendly, and the chicken was pretty good.
We came here with high expectations after hearing positive reviews. The building itself is beautiful and features take you back to its heyday.Beyond the beauty, the restaurant aspect is lacking. Service was slow due to one server for roughly 10 tables. Customers were going to the bar serving themselves. Our food was good but not amazing. We ordered entrees and one was missing a side that was brought to the servers attention but never came. In the end, despite not receiving the full entree, we were charged full price.Unsure if it was an off night or trying to get back into the swing of things, but I wouldnt recommend the Montana Club dining experience.
Montana club is pretty neat. Loved the building. The food was great. They were undermanned for the Mothers day brunch. The people working were doing their best though. Ill go back when I can. Check it out if you get the chance.
Atmosphere was great had some yummy crafted cocktails and the crab cakes were delish
Went for the easter buffet and wasnt happy with the service dirty plates piled on our table wait staff just walked by never bothering to ask if we would like more water or coffee. Was super confused never been charged for refill on coffee. My bloody Mary didnt have more then a 1/3 of it tasted really watered down. When I got there they hardly had any food in the trays and it took awhile to refill them. For $28 I ate more salad then I did anything was tired of waiting for the meals. I did try the french toast it was tough to cut through. Was super disappointed with this experience really shocked have had excellent food here in the past.
Just had our wedding at the Montana Club. Stephanie and the entire staff were amazing. Obviously our wedding plans had to shift and change almost up to the day of the event due to COVID. Stephanie in particular was such an amazing help. She took care of all of the details throughout the entire planning process and then made sure everything went off without a hitch for the reception. I could not recommend The Montana Club or Stephanie higher. Food was great, decorations were perfect, wouldnt have changed a thing.
Do yourself a favor and experience The Montana Club in Helena. Service is unmatched. Presentation and food is absolute AMAZING!!
My husband and I stopped by for a drink while out for date night. The service was outstanding and the pours were generous- which was good since it was $14/glass! Quiet and comfortable atmosphere, we would definitely go there again on a date night. We appreciated how attentive and service focused the bar staff was. A helpful improvement would be to provide a wine/drink list- we were told that there wasn’t one.
Had 10 oz New York strip. Ask for medium rare. Not bad, could have been juicer and seasoned more. Meal was good nothing special. Waitress was very nice, but extra slow. Total time there was about 2.5 hrs. Way too long. Will try again, was my first time. Maybe an off night.
The building is awesome, the service was great and food was decent. Why the one star? The menu is pretty bad. You can get a sandwich (burger chicken or salmonor two other beef entrees. The other Montana clubs I’ve been too, Billings, Great Falls and Butte have been pretty darn good, lots of choices. I would just say if you’re looking for a half way decent selection of options move on.
My partner and I had an awful experience with their thanksgiving to-go plates. They promised they would be curbside pickup at a specific time, and to call when we arrived. Well when we called, it was an automated system with no option to talk to anyone. We waited over a half hour before getting in line with a bunch of other confused people also trying to get their food. Not only did they not deliver on their promise for a contactless pickup, we had to wait in line with a man not wearing a mask in the height of the pandemic! If we get sick, the Montana Club better be ready to foot our medical bills. Very unprofessional and we will never return to this establishment!
Wonderful experience! Food was absolutely delicious and what a history lesson! Our waitress went above and beyond to answer all my questions about this building and it’s history.
My wife and I went to their first brunch after quarantine and it was amazing! The food and service were absolutely incredible! Thank you guys for staying great, even after the monkey wrench of COVID-19!
Very cool old historical location. Great place to grab a drink after work. The Bourbon selection is fantastic! While you are there stay and have some appetizers or a full meal. Very quiet and comfortable.
Food, especially the vegetarian fare was excellent. Chanteuse usually brings us in to listen.Large elegant room surrounded by windows where we could watch snow falling was very pleasing.
Christine our server was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! she went over and beyond to make sure we had the full experience. She is very knowledgeable on the history! The food was amazing we even had dessert. We will def be back! (Pricing was right on point)
Everbody has to try the Appetizers Menue Nachos! So big of servings you could feed 5 people for around $12! Great staff and fast friendly service with a smile always! Oh yes, and they make their own sauses
Went for Easter brunch and had the absolute worst food Ive ever eaten.... or tried to eat. Not only did they not have any of the food that they advertised (shrimp, eggs Benedict, omelette bar), but the food they put in the buffet was awful. Ive literally eaten better food at a gas station. The eggs were not edible, and the pancakes were hard. The sausage patties were straight from McDonalds and most of the cooked carrots still had stems on them. This is the second bad meal Ive had there in the last month and will definitely not be eating there again.
For 32.00 I was not impressed and it was a gorme of 8 notes all cut up, I thought it pricey. On bdwy has filet mignon excellent and less pricey. Have a hamburger they looked better.
We had reservations at 7:00 Friday night. For some reason our table was not ready when we arrived so we waited in the lounge. Staff was very apologetic about the wait which we appreciated. It really didnt matter because we were in no hurry. It was a delightful evening. The drinks were perfect. The service was impeccable. We all had the New York strip. All were cooked exactly to our preferences and it was the best streak I have had in years! Thank you all!
This place is awesome! We had our Valentines dinner here tonight and enjoyed the view overlooking the snow, the great old themed music to the great staff and service. Fantastic experience! I took it upon myself to leave my phone in my pocket so sorry no photos on this visit for respect for our epic date night. To describe the food they provided a delicious dinner roll with house made artichoke butter. I ordered a Guinness burger that came with a side of in-house chips and my wife had the duck platter. The food was sized perfectly and it was delicious. The desserts were very delicious as well. Through the meal we ordered some drinks and they were very good. I am happy we were able to reserve a table here for Valentines day and I definitely be back here on another evening. It is a little on the pricey side but thats why we came here! For the high quality drinks and meals to the high quality service I feel like we discovered a new place to eat. Highly recommend!
The Rathskeller is amazing! The main dining bar is so freaking cool. Nearest place to have a drink in Helena.
Went to the Montana Club for a historic tour. It was fantastic! The tour guide (Julie? Was so much fun and so informative! The Rathskeller employees were great, too. Didnt eat in the dining room, but did eat in Rathskeller. Was very, very good. Prices are affordable and great tap beer selection. The Rathskeller lounge is very cozy and historic. I would certainly recommend checking it out. I will be going back. Lived in Helena most my life and always wondered what the Montana Club was like. So happy it has opened up to the public. Cant wait for the next tour...promise I wont cheat at the trivia questions! 😉 By the way, this is NOT the Mont. Club chain of restaurants located around Montana....this is the ORIGINAL MONTANA CLUB!!
#Rathskellar bartenders were great, friendly, and made a perfect dirty martini. Patrons of all ages. The place was packed at 7:00 pm on a Friday, with a terrific band, but not enough seating for the crowd. Ill definitely go again and plan on getting their earlier.
I went there with my family for my Birthday last year. I was sorely disappointed! I ordered their 12 oz steak medium rare, with mashed potatos, and a salad. When it arrived it wasnt even an 8oz. steak! And it was well done (borderline shoe leather)!! The mashed potatoes were a small scoop less than 1oz. shot glass size, no gravy, no butter, nothing. Then I asked for my salad because the waitress still hadnt brought it. It was half a bowl of lettuce chunks, without anything else? For over $20.00 I was feeling ripped off... it was quite disappointing to say the least. I filled out a complaint on their website and their compensation was a $10.00 gift card, which I gave away, cuz theres no way Id go back there to get ripped off again...
What a wonderful old historic building and we enjoyed a very superb meal served by friendly experienced staff. A must when you are in Helena. I will definitely be back again.
This was my first time going in many years as they are somewhat recently open to the public, but I was not impressed. The best thing about this place is the decor. The live music was nice and the drinks were good. The service was quite slow and not friendly despite a small amount of patrons. The chairs were super uncomfortable. The menu was odd, it was almost-upscale but with issues like lack of seafood and cheaper steak cuts. The ramen was pretty tasty and unique but lacked authentic flavor and quantity of meat. I dont think Ill be back when there are comparably-priced restaurants with much better experiences in Helena.
Meant to be for those wanting a more private and classy dining experience, The Montana Club provides polite and timely service. I have received service both as a non-member and as a member. While this affects where in the building you are allowed, this in no way affects the service received. Food is nothing to be understated, as they employ and train to meet fine dining expectations that are incredibly few and far between. Definitely the place to go, even if you just want a drink as they provide a cozy seating area for a more laid back experience.
We had a family holiday dinner on Friday night. Staff was great setting up the reserved space - the Garden Room- very nice. Friendly and efficient bar and wait staff. Food was tasty and well presented. Prices were competitive with Helenas better restaurants, and the ambiance was far better than almost any other place. Plus, no TV screens! Menu is somewhat limited and not typical. Most had hamburgers that were large and satisfying. Steaks got good reviews. Fun appetizers.
Our very last night living in Helena, and we were so excited to try the Montana Club. Hands down the worst service I have ever recieved. Our waitress did not clear any of our dishes until we had dessert and even after that we still had the wooden bread board, the appetizer dish and plates, as well as, one main course dish on the table. It was not busy upon arriving (1 other table), although 3 other medium sized parties did filter in throughout our nearly 2.5 hours there. It was very evident that we were being treated differently from those who are or were members, despite The Montana Club recently becoming open to the public. The waitress referred to me as "hun" at one point when asking if I would like her to clear my plate (the one main course dish that was cleared before dessert). Normally this would not bother me, but you pay a lot for this service and the entire experience (aside from the beautiful architecturewas far less than what I consider fine dining. There was also no opportunity to tip, but rather a charge was still being tacked on for non-members. This should have been noted as she had clearly known we were not members. Food was shockingly average and overpriced. This is my first google review. Normally, I would take note and move on, but myself and my family member both felt like we were second class citizens after this experience.
This is an upscale restaurant for Helena. I had the olive, cheese tray, and pretzel appetizers, the steak (with mashed potatoes and asparagus), and the cheese cake for desert. There is also a bar (I think it is full but I am no expert). The building is historical, and has plaques on the walls commemorating the various uses it has seen over the years. I am taking a star off because my chair was wobbly and the room got really hot in the summer heat.
Micah has brought a proper dining experience to the members-only restaurant with a rotating menu that mixes creativity alongside the classics. Several of those items are still available in the rathskeller which is open to the public and features an inventive cocktail menu. Definitely order the house-made pickles!
Most creative food in town. Atmosphere unlike any other place in the state. The membership fee is really is bargain for all that you get.
