The Mermaid - in San Marino, San Marino
Disappointing. There was no communication until the day after I was due to check in – by which time Id called repeatedly and left voicemails, seemingly to an empty venue – so I ended up staying just one of the two nights Id paid for, in a pretty average room, that hadnt been decorated since the 70s! The breakfast was good, though. And what few staff I encountered seemed lovely, just a bit clueless.
Sunday lunch absolutely excellent. Best roast beef in years, cooked to perfection. The deserts were out of this world. Lovely Landlady you must hang on to those chefs and what a delight your waitress is, nothing too much trouble. Will see you again.
What you would expect an English pub to look like on the inside and out. Went there for a Sunday Roast and was not disappointed. I got the beef, my wife got the chicken. Everything on the plate was delicious. Definitely worth a visit.
Just had a great supper at the Mermaid, the beef and the chicken burgers. Plenty to eat, home made coleslaw was the icing on the cake, good value 👍
Such a shame as the pub looked lovely but the beer tasted awful (asked for a shandy but got straight beer)We sat in the garden which was nice apart from the loud canned music being played .really spoilt the summer evening atmosphere. We left after one drink .
Staff lovely, and food nice just the portion sizes are tiny and vegan options incredibly limited. My mother had their take on fiish and chips which turned out to be a 2inch square cut of fish on a bed of about 4 slightly roasted new potatoes. I had what was meant to be a nut roast. The portion size was better than my mothers however the so called nut roast was literally just a pile of loose roasted nuts.
What a wonderful pub! Food is so nice. We had a meal here on holiday and enjoyed it so much that we went back the next night as we knew they could cater for our multiple intolerances/allergies.The only disappointing thing is the location, too far to revisit!
They say its the best roast in Cambs.... theyre not lying!!!
Lovely place, booked a room which was very reasonable price and had dinner. Highly recommend
Absolutely fantastic atmosphere. Pizza oven was amazingly delicious and the staff are super friendly
Lovely pub with friendly staff, and food and drink at very reasonable prices. Its nice and cosy inside, and the facilities are all clean and in good order. We had the scampi Boris Baskets which were good value and as tasty as youd get anywhere else. Would definitely stop by again
An odd one tbh. This tiny little pub has a £95 tasting menu.. But its still very much a call boozer. Or starters were great but all our main courses were a little confused. Lovely to try but hard on the pocket
The most stunning and romantic meal Ive ever had. On an evening where quality and service can be less than the usual standard our Valentines Meal was truly out of this world. Every little detail was beautiful, lit fires, roses, beautiful warm and stylish touches and the most fabulous waitress. Helpful wine waiter and gorgeous wine at a reasonable price... the food was out of this world delicious, varied, interesting and not at all cliche.... Perfect! Doesnt get better than this!!!
I simply cannot see the attraction to this place. Its an old pub .Certainly more shabby than chic.Food was very mediocre and way over priced for what it was . The deserts are more style than substance . The Eaton Mess would not have filled a dessert spoon! Just 4 thin slices of apple and a few tiny dabs of synthetic cream . Awfull. The poor experience started when we were shown to what I can only describe as a drafty lean to , which was probably originally an out building . It was freezing . No heating at all.Certainly not at what we expected when we read their web page and menu.
Great top quality food prepared by a kitchen that knows what good and then to cook it properly and with care. The service we received was well above the average and everyone was welcoming.Super place and well worth a visit. I would recommend the Mermaid.
Booked table last minute, the food was amazing, staff very friendly. We highly recommend the Sunday menu excellent value. We will be going again.
Loved the food very creative and pretty. The womens toilet basin is also nice and different, its a leaf! Chill atmosphere and friendly staff.
Absolutely amazing food! I would highly recommend. We had a fantastic night. Great friendly service and incredible food.
Overpriced and disorganised. The food was okay but we were asked to wait over an hour, with children, before we were served for our table which we had booked in advance because they had let another party in earlier. Shocking service, will never return.
Heard so much about this place . What a disappointment ! I have to say the food was ok but served on the smallest plate possible and charged £18.50 for the one course (Sunday Lunch . The beef was not pink as promised but quite well done in fact .I arrived and left hungry ! I do not normally comment on these sites but felt in this case I was sufficiently disappointed to make the effort . I did report this to the waitress to no avail !
Good quality food, nice presentation, good selection with unusual options. Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Quaint olde worlde environment. We will go again.
Superb meal, as always. Menu is very good, especially for vegans, nothing is too much trouble. Ambience and service excellent. Highly recommended, just go.
Such lovely food! Highly recommend!!
On first inpressions it felt like any other country pub. But after taking a seat and inspecting the menu it was clear to see this wasnt just another pub. The little touches to the menu paper to the wording of the discriptions and the ingredients used I knew I we were in for a treat. And it did not fail to deliver. Every course was a culinary master piece of flavours and vision. Add this the extensive wine menu and the highly affordable price for what your actually getting. We will be back time and time again. Hats off mermaid.
Excellent environment, lovely country pub within easy reach of Cambridge Peterborough and surrounds. Interesting menu, great service. A little bit gastro but food is excellent. Log fire!
Amazing, food is beautifully presented but more importantly is seriously tasty! A great selection of wine and beers with very friendly and attentive staff. Would definitely recommend this to anyone!!!
Stopped in for a light lunch with a friend. As always this establishment did not disappoint. The Mermaids catch accompanied by a couple of light side dishes was exceptional. The staff as friendly and professional as ever in this heat. Cant wait for my next visit
Gorgeous, old world pub...lots of charm. Room was huge with very comfy bed, sitting area, freeview TV, free wifi etc. Didnt use the restaurant this time, but the menu looked amazing. Wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.
WOW.. what a find. Truly an inspired menu. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. Cant wait to see what is on the menu next time.
Found by accident ...lovely find. Had a table in bar as we had the dog with us. Excellent menu...much to grand to be pub food. Will definitely go back with family for a evening meal.
What a surprise! We have the best meal here ever outside London and the best meal we have had in many years. The staff were amazing and the chef is top notch
What a great place, friendly attentive staff, very atmospheric, highly recommend the soft shell crab, couldnt fault anything. Enjoy!!
Great little pub with amazing food!! Loved just sitting by the fire having lunch while on holiday here!
Lovely place. Called in for lunch on new years eve to break the drive back up to London. Staff were lovely and food was tasty and beautifully presented. Would definitely go back!
Had a stop here on our way across country. Shared a tapas as a light bite with a coffee. Lovely service, excellent food. Delightful little touches. Wish it was nearer!!
Fantastic food and lovely atmosphere, highly recommend.
Fantastic food. I love how presentable the food were. Would never imagine having so many vegan options in a small village. Chef and most of the staff were friendly and helpful.Unfortunately for us, we were mostly assisted by the youngest looking waitress. She looks like she simply could not be bothered to be there. She never looks you into your eyes when speaking to you. When she misunderstood me, she simply said, "sorry. I was not listening." How rude!
Excellent great quality food, not what you would expect for what looks like a pub from the outside. Plenty seating areas at the front, back and outside.
Fantastic restaurant in a pleasant location.
Quaint country pub with good food. The menu is a bit limited and confusingly written with a tendency towards pretensiousness. The dill battered fish was too dilly - a more simple batter would work better. But those are picky complaints, the service is good, the food is good, the ambience is good.
We went there for my birthday meal and every was delicious and beautifully presented - it is quirky in a good way and individual - creative dishes and staff are always friendly and helpful. The building is lovely - very old but has been kept well and thoughtfully preserved. Have been here several times either for a bar snack or a meal and just gets better every time - keep up the good work!
I visited the Mermaid recently for an evening meal. I am Vegan and my Mum is Gluten Free so it is fair to say we are not an easy crowd! I was delighted to see a separate Vegan and GF menu, all of our needs were catered for and the staff were super friendly and very helpful. The overall ambiance is excellence and the standard of food and preparation is definitely a cut above the norm.
A very friendly and enthusiastic welcome from a young team who obviously care about the service they provide matched by some great food all presented beautifully. (Not forgetting the extra special sparkling water!). Look forward to coming back.
Fabulous lunch! The food was beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. The staff clearly enjoyed telling us about the food and made us feel special. The gin list is worth a look, with detailed tasting notes, and the staff know how to recommend a good wine match. Well definitely be back!
Food was outstanding, service was excellent and the gin selection was top notch!Staff struck the perfect balance of making sure we had what we needed and giving us time to ourselves.Food was delicious, plentiful, and presented well. Steaks were cooked perfectly, as was the lamb.A very pleasurable experience, all around.
First time here and booked for special occasion. Really disappointed. Lamb basically raw and tasteless. Steak good but hash brown that came with it tasted of nothing and was dry. Also onion was dry over cooked. Wont be coming back again.
I really dont want leave a review because you will become even more popular and we wont be able to get in as often! This is Cambridgeshires best kept secret - weve tried eateries across West Cambs and Northants and you wont find a more enjoyable environment, relaxed and with delightful, attentive staff, and oh, yes, stunning food. A changing menu, reinventions to challenge your mind as much as your palate. The tapas-style taster plates are brilliant ways to get us all going. The mains selections always stump me - so we are slowly working through them all. Fish night was fantastic value too. Puds are indulgent. Did I say it was fantastic value? Its fantastic value. Keep doing what you do, the Mermaid crew, and with luck no-one will read this post....
Sometimes you get lucky. We came across this pub serving food made for the gods, via google maps. This is food worth travelling for. It is some of the finest food we have eaten, wonderfulinteresting menu, cooked with flair and passion, served perfectly.A unique memorable experience. We wish you every success in your venture. You haveraised the bar in gastro pubs to a new level.Superb.do not hesitate - it is the best
We booked a table at short notice following a personal recommendation. There was an extremely friendly welcome in this small but atmospheric village gastropub. Shown to the table and offered water (freeand excellent bread and butter (with truffle oil and olive crumb). A varied and interesting menu. The service was excellent and the staff knowledgeable about the food and wine. The food was wonderful, and I can recommend the fillet steak tartare starter. The cost was very reasonable for such quality - weve spent more on pub food pre-packaged and nuked in the microwave!
Wonderful! The most attentive and helpful staff who genuinely wanted you to enjoy your experience.Menu was exciting and so well priced - many main course dishes for around £10. The complimentary warm soda bread with whipped butter was the most delicious thing I have tasted in a long time.Cannot recommend highly enough.
