Casual pub with wooden tables, a leafy terrace and a European influenced menu.
Lovely burger. Attended again for a Sunday roast and it was delish. Great portion size (only ate half).
Best meal of our UK trip so far. This is a very authentic neighborhood pub (dont be put off by the gastropub labelwith a charming staff and a superb Sunday roast. Good value to boot - the servings were immense. High marks all round.
I think it is one of the best SundayRoast I have ever tasted. The staff were very friendly and attentive, they came by the table several times to ask if everything was ok.You can also opt for the vegetarian option.I recommend making a reservation as they are very busy.
Love this pub! I had my 50th bday party there, my cousin had her 40th & a good friend had his 60th there. Fab pub, fab landlady & staff, fab food. Tucked away and definitely worth a visit.
Great local spot with pub quiz on Wednesday nights and the food is definitely much better than your average pub menu.
Hands down the best roast in Bristol, thank you!
Awesome pub in a residential area. It’s run by a community who seems to enjoy their work there, thus it has a friendly and familiar vibe. Food is homemade by a lovely lady - we liked the burgers (try their signature garlic mayonnaise!and thought Sunday roast was absolutely delicious.
Lovely little pub serving great food. Great atmosphere, relaxed, friendly staff.
Lovely little local, good food, all home made.
Always fabulous, food and well-kept beers. Friendly family-run local. Getting ever harder to get a table, especially for their excellent Sunday lunch. One year on, weve not changed our minds. Just as fabulous post pandemic.
Absolutely overrated. Neighborhood pub with ordinary food. Was told to wait 25mins before ordering. Appetizer was fancily named artichoke hearts dumped out of a can and sliced in half. Not sure why I had to wait for that. Stew and burgers were sold out. The next choice of Chilli was plain and 50% rice.
Amazing pub, great service and food. Planning on visiting a lot from now on, the veggie/vegan food is fantastic. Great customer service who genuinely care.
Unbeatable for Sunday lunch, the food is amazing, staff are friendly and helpful and the beer is great.
The place is incredible. The food, the people, the atmosphere - everything is amazing.
Visited on a Saturday evening so very busy but a nice pub. Food looked good so will definitely go back to try it.
So good and the red wine 😍 definitely glad my ex double booked and he got the rubbish roast - ha
Best roast in Bristol and all staff and the family who run it are lovely. Cant recommend this pub enough!
Good food. Great owners and pleasant atmosphere. Small but lovely garden space in the summer.
My friend recommended The Lion as she said its the best roast shes ever had and she was right. The food is utterly delightful, every single bit of food on the plate is made with love. Service is just lovely, the gentle who served us the first time we went was so helpful and accommodating. The pub itself is so quaint and cosy. It really has a wonderful homely feel. Cant recommend this place enough.
Beautiful, hidden gem in Clifton, Bristol. Small interior but lovely inside. Family-run. Excellent selection on tap. Always get served with a FREEZING cold glass by the friendly barman. And the food is to die for, even for vegetarians!
Excellent Sunday roast with lovely vegetables, served by friendly staff, accompanied by pleasant beer and good wine at a reasonable price. Just whats required on a cold Sunday in November.
Excellent and attentive service, we were even moved to the garden without asking, as soon as a table became available.Well kept ale and nice food - perfect after a day walking around Bristol.
Absolutely fabulous vegetarian Sunday roast & pudding, really friendly comfortable pub, totally recommend, great staff
My sister and I booked a table last minute and were greeted by very friendly staff and a warm atmosphere. We ordered two vegan roasts and were just about to be served when we had a family emergency and had to leave. All the staff were super helpful and organised for our roasts to be taken away quickly. When we did get around to eating them, we were extremely happy! Absolutely delicious, quality ingredients, massive portions. We will definitely be returning very soon. Thank you very much guys, we appreciate you a lot!
Love this place. David and his wife run a fabulous pub, complete with a good selection of beers, wonderfully cosy atmosphere and by far the best Sunday roast in Bristol. Truly one of Bristols hidden gems. 💎
Lovely family run take awayRoast Dinner. 😋Fiona is a good cook. 😃We are very gratefulfor you being open. 🙏
Sunday Roast... interesting twist on traditional roast with addition of potato dauphinoise and cauliflower croquettes on the side of tender beef and all time favourites, such as roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, all covered in thick delicious gravy. Divine! Will be back for more without a doubt! Thank you, The Lion. X
Easily the best roast dinner Ive had. My food intolerances were easily catered for and my meal was still as substantial as my partners who has no dietary requirements. Reasonably priced and with staff who are friendly and know their stuff about allergens. I would highly recommend The Lion.
Delicious food great service and good value. Very filling meal. Caters easily for gluten and dairy free and veggie options. Our second visit. Will definitely go again. A regular venue for our grown children.
The pub is cosy with a real fire too greet you. The food was plentiful, although they were only serving roast dinner as it was Sunday. Two of our chosen options were no longer available. Service was excellent and very friendly staff. My biggest bug bear were the toilets. Very dirty and you had to go outside. I would forgive having to go outside, but there is no excuse for not cleaning them properly. It needs a lot of elbow grease in my opinion. Otherwise, it was a pleasant experience...
Food was a 5/5 for sure! Wanted to eat there again the week we stayed in Bristol however the hours are a little weird for food (but we are not from England so maybe thats just us). So if youre looking for food, what I know is that the kitchen is closed Mondays and Tuesdays just a heads up. Thats the only thing I wish, is that the website maybe gave the kitchen hours as well. Otherwise I loved the place, great vibe and lovely people!
Lovely little family pub with pretty decorations. The bar was spotless and flowers on every table. The burgers on the menu were very inventive with different flavours!
Nice little pub is the Lion. Would highly recommend the grilled sea bass if your planning on eating there. Nice food, nice atmosphere and the female bar staff arent exactly hard on the eye either!
Food & service were great. Prices were reasonable too. But we were seated at a table right Infront of the door and it was a very cold day and the pub was quite busy. So the door was opening and closing a lot, and also being held open for others. Very cold.
Nice enough pub in an affluent area. It has a nice selection of beers and ciders. Decor is nice and authentic, barman was friendly and welcoming. Prices were reasonable.
Very nice and cozy bar. Massive burgers. If want to go with just your partner, make a reservation of one of the tables far from the group tables, cause its not a bug bar and it tends to get very loud.
Lovely lamb and Pork roast dinners (beef and veg options also availableby the fire, lovely service in this family run pub. Food was brilliant, parsnip croquette and dauphinoise potatoes were a nice touch. The vegan apple crumble was also lovely. Would definitely go again.
Thoroughly enjoyed Sunday roast here! Great choice of veg that comes with the dishes and really liked that the vegan roast wasnt missing out on anything that the meat options had! We came with a friend from Hungary who positively said this food gave him a good impression of English food and he really enjoyed it. The vegan apple crumble was also great! Will be recommending it to all vegan and non-vegan friends!!
Nice place brings back memories when we used to live on the Ambrose.. hill climbing. on the Ambrose we used to say when we used to test ride the 750cc bikes. we used to ride back then.. one thing havent changed you still see people from Bristol City council dosing in the car great place to hide when youre supposed to be in the office
Average at best, the Sunday lunch was big but with that thinly sliced non descript meat you had at school. Carve a giant turkey twizzler and you can imagine the texture and taste of the meat. Beef was the same, nice horseradish out of a Colmans jar. Stupid wine prices for a pub no better than a Wetherspoons. Like I said, very average
Second time here today for Sunday lunch and didn’t disappoint! Great atmosphere, clean and tidy, the staff were quick, efficient and on the ball! The food was stunning and great sized portions, but couldn’t fit any pudding in though! So will definitely be leaving some room for the sweet tooth next time for sure. To all @ The Lion, take a bow.
Delicious food: I had the salmon cake, and it comes with a avocado and cucumber salad. We spent only 18£ per person. The beer was good; but we especially appreciate the welcoming atmosphere. Thanks!
We eat here about twice a month and go to quiz nights inbetween. The food is consistently excellent, especially the Sunday roasts. My girlfriend is vegetarian and wont stop banging on about how good the vegetarian roast is. However the best part about this place is the staff who are fantastic! They are always welcoming and make an effort to get to know you, making the whole experience more personal.
Great family owned pub. The Sunday roast is one of the best Ive ever had. Definitely visit! Open fires, cosy atmosphere. The perfect pub
First time for my husband and myself at The Lion on Easter Sunday with friends who went on Mother’s Day. Absolutely outstanding little pub. Staff are super friendly & attentive, food is stunning and huge portions. They offer gluten free and vegan options, everyone is catered for. Lots of choice with ciders and ales also. I would recommend a visit, it has a lovely buzzy atmosphere. We will certainly be returning!!!
Great Local Pub, lovely little playground next door, not joined, but close enough to get a drink and sit in the playground to watch your kids play. Havent had food here, but have been told its great, especially the pizza.
Went for the vegan roast today, incredible. Massive portions so make sure youre Hungry!Great atmosphere, delicious food, and lovely staff.
Really nice spot. Family run pub, local and welcoming. Burgers are probably the best in bristol. Great choice, great chips. Pub quiz Wednesday is always popular so book a table ahead of time.
Very friendly, helpful and proactive staff, a good choice of meats and veggie option for their Sunday roast and tasty puddings as well. The beef could have been ever so slightly rarer but my friend said the lamb was spot on. Other than that, a good experience. Would visit again.
Lovely local, great food and very sociable staff - A proper Gastro pub. My wife and I went for Sunday lunch (April 2015with our 9 month old boy and we all enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and excellent food. Doombar on tap and bakewell tart for desert were a very pleasant bonus for me. We will, no doubt, be visiting again soon.
