96-98 Pentonville Rd, Islington, London N1 9JB, Bongor
High-ceilinged bar with sofas, serving US draught beers and whiskies, plus live music room upstairs.
Very busy on a Saturday night but speedy door service and ticket/coat check. Bar service was pretty decent too considering how busy it was on disco night. Quaint atmosphere with a range of people and ages. Would definitely go back. Decent priced drinks. Only drawback is that it felt a little over crowded.
Good drinks, good sounds, good company. All fine, all nice!
Love this small London venue! Great fun, and amazing whisky/whiskey bar downstairs.
Violent and irresponsible bouncers. I cycled past this pub last night and saw 1 bouncer sitting on a man lying down on the street, holding him down and almost choking him. The other bouncer was even worse, pushing another man right into the road, in the way of traffic. I stopped and told him that was dangerous as I was cycling past, and he instantly reacted aggressively, swearing violently at me and the man who he was pushing. This behaviour was a completely irresponsible and dangerous power-trip from 2 unprofessional bouncers. Skimming reviews here I see there have been mentions of terrible bouncers for the past 6 years. I think its time to sort it. Please fire them and sort out your standards for bouncers.
Great old venue, unusual layout. Good beer and whisky.
One of the great small venues round london. Kentucky vibe goes down well and their own beers on tap from local Hackney Brewery. Never been to a “club night” but gigs are always great sound quality. Food menu changes so can be hit or miss.
Great small gig / club venue, pub prices, night bus stops outside or 10 mins walk to Kings Cross tube station.
Great pub, but sadly seems to be joining a trend of only serving half a patty in their burgers. Must be some sort of cost-cutting measure. Really disappointed.
A pub and music venue with lots of character. Incredible range of whisky. Reasonable prices.
First time here for a gig. Great atmosphere and very impressed with the extensive vegan menu.
Great venue, and great music. The performance area is very intimate and has a bar upstairs and down! Would recommend if you want to go and see some live music.
Inexpensive, late night pub typically used by students. If youre over the age of 35, youd likely be the oldest person in the place. Decent selection of drinks at reasonable prices. Service could be better as there are some staff who are just inattentive and reactive rather than proactive. Good doorstaff.
Staff werent very helpful when we said we had a reservation. Only went for the gig upstairs
Great venue, small and dark and great view of the stage. Would definitely come here again.
Gr8 music on Thurs 4th aug, and gr8 beer. Friendly atmosphere
Is one of the top venues to watch bands in London, really enjoyed Daniel Romano
The best indie bar Ive been to in London. Open very late Friday and Saturday and always busy. Music exactly what you want especially on white noise night
Good music and mix of crowd on a Saturday night. Excellent selection of drinks. Only reason Im giving 4 stars is that the staff could have been friendlier.
Very friendly and helpful manager, security, bar staff, cloakroom and sound engineer, which have made seeing a band (Joanne Joanneand putting on a gig here a few days later a pleasure.Bar and live room are air conditioned. Bar is redneck themed with loads of American spirits, beers and food.Manager up for bands putting their own nights on on Sundays. PA is good and sound engineer we had was knowledgeable, patient and had a good sense of humour.
I visited The Lexington for a gig & found the staff friendly & beer top quality (for London)It is convenient to Angel tube.As for the gig room above the pub. It was smaller than anticipated, maybe 200+ cap. Sound was spot on & easy to get a great viewing spot.Loved my time there.
Great pub with a great selection of whiskeys and beers. The food is really nice too and there’s a venue on the first floor for live gigs
Stunning venue and perfect acoustics, exquisite artists like Emily Wells performed here and definitely Im gonna visit this place again.
Great place. And it is not expensive at all.
Went there to see Skating Polly. Lovely, intimate concert venue. High Victorian pub downstairs, with slightly but not uncomfortably so aloof staff. Upstairs a dark room really, holding about 200-300 people (guesstimate this).
Quality gig venue and decent pub. Not sure about the “ask literally everyone for ID” policy but other than that it’s excellent
Nice little bar with live music venue upstairs. There were no bands playing when we were there but good to know its in a separate area. Started to get busy around 10 and has a distinctly "Indie" vibe to it. Good selection of beers and spirits behind the bar too.
Beautiful venue, but running the music off a tablet creates jarring 1-second silences whenever anybody texts the bar staff...Food is excellent, although spicy, but every item on the menu except plain (aggressively saltedchips contains corn. If youre allergic you are completely out of luck. Bring back the delicious Greek menu!
Great music venue. Small upstairs room with bar. Took me back to my college days...
Great old style boozer with a large venue space for live music.
Good location but music mix could be better. You wanna dance to a certain style or period but its all thrown at you switching too much between decates and genres that its to get a common ground on the dance floor.
Loved the music, loved the vibe!!!!! The place serves amazing drinks. There are two areas, ground floor is like a pub serving food and beverages but it converts to a jam-packed dance floor after 10.30ish and is open upto 2AM. On the first floor there is a proper dance floor and the shows hapen there which is open upto 4 AM. On regular days it has entry charges of around 7 gbp but varies depending on the tickets for particular shows. Overall, its a great place and is open until late with all the great music that can keep you grooving to the beat. Absolutely lovely. We will definitely keep visiting ::)
Eclectic style American/English pub with some of the best Yucatan tacos I have ever had, seriously amazing.Staff were friendly and welcoming and the music space upstairs is a great size for a small intimate gig. Would highly recommend all round.
Absolutely banging food, we had the nachos with guacamole, tacos (amazing), and loaded fries, all just delicious! The decor is a bit 🇺🇸 leaning with a lot of London pub charm, its cosy. The upstairs gig space is also great, had a lovely time with dinner, drinks and music!
First time at this pub/venue. Brilliant place. Single bar traditional London pub, with music venue upstairs. Shabby Chic look. Free juke box, Mexican based food menu: I didnt eat btw. Plenty of craft and mainstream beers and a great selection of Bourbon. Loads going on every night. Monday is Pop Quiz, place was packed. Saw Midlight upstairs and its one of the best small venues I have been to, great acoustics. Bar upstairs and some bench seating around the edge. Will definitely visit again and try the tacos. Brilliant
AMAZING vibes. A very tasty Mexican menu that is the perfect pub sharer. Easy to eat. Quick orders. Great selection of whiskies and all very reasonably priced. The music venue upstairs was awesome. Very focused and intimate space with another bar available.
Tip top gig. Saw Bentley Rythm Ace. Fantastic. Never been to this venue. Was pleasantly surprised. It has real character and the gig was upstairs. An intimate setting but what an atmosphere! Everyone had a smile on their face and we danced like we did over 20 years again.
Great pub with a great selection of whiskeys and beers. The food is really nice too and there’s a venue on the first floor for live gigs. We saw some amazing indie bands over the years and enjoyed our last gig last night. There were 3 great bands playing. The place is definitely recommended.
Great venue for a night out, live music upstairs, friendly atmosphere
This legendary pub in Angel is a great option when you are improvising a night out. You go with the idea of having one drink and you end up leaving the last with lots of funny situations to tell. My first pub night out in London and I still love this place 6 years later.100% recommended !!!
Great little venue with a good selection of drinks. Very intimate atmosphere upstairs where bands play.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and the best venue in North London (and beyond probably). So glad you guys survived the pandemic and are now back to pretty much normal.
Great place to listen to some great music! Ground floor is a normal pub, but upstairs they have a cool night club
A great eclectic pub on Pentonville road. High ceiling, all sorts of strange furniture and ornamental silliness. Wonderful. The staff are lovely and welcoming, the beer tastes good, only keg on today but pumps are there for four cask ales. Also, open till 04.00 tomorrow, clearly the way forward! Thanks for a lovely pint.
Essential pub to visit in angel. Lots of great selections of beers, polite and friendly staff. Vegan burger is absolutely delicious and with lots of seating and clean toilets its definitely a required visit
This doesn’t look as the other photos of burgers from this place. Also this cannot possibly have won the national burger eased 2018 as claimed. No way. It’s a below average burger. The place is nice but it doesn’t seem well maintained, it really can be a great pub. I had high hopes but nah.....
Pleasant pub with a decent beer and wine selection. The food looks good, though havent tried. Good venue upstairs for all sorts of emerging artists, so if theres someone you fancy seeing and theyre playing the Lexington, then get your tickets and have a great night!NB: no draft beer upstairs & limited wines. You can take a drink up to the gig from downstairs
Awesome live venue and club. The main bar is very nice with a good selection of beers and good music.
I love The Lexington. I’ve been coming here for years now and still always pop in if I’m in the area.Their whiskey sours are the best in town and they’ve always got a bottle or two of Pappy van Winkle floating around. I’m particularly fond of coming here in the afternoons when it’s quiet, and sitting up in the raised lounge area on the ground floor, it feels like I’m sitting in an old west saloon.Staff are always courteous and skilled at pouring cocktails. The upstairs music venue is great too; I’ve been to several gigs here over the years and always have a good time. It does get very busy in the evenings though!
Excellent Bar. Open late. Good beer and great on whiskey. Id recommend the Pappy Van Winkle 15 year old.
An Islington staple, this local pub and venue is popular with the young professional crowd. The Lexington has two floors, the top being ideal for music gigs and dancing. They home unusual events, tonight was The Orchestra age of Enlightenment, a string quintet playing Mendelssohn. Ample tables inside which housed a pub quiz, with the ability to order food too.
