Airy book & record store offering new & used items in a multilevel space adorned with local art.
Just stopped in to walk around. Lots of people were doing the same, so definitely also sort of a touristy stop as well. Came in on a Sunday morning around 11am.Plenty of books, old and new, some specific to Los Angeles, like the history of Film & stuff. Pretty unique! It’s also massive + multi floor. I’d avoid the top if you’re claustrophobic though lol-the deeper into it you get the more it starts to feel like an escape room.
This place is amazing! I wish I had more time to explore each nook and cranny. There were some interesting books, as well as art, niches, and some interestingly designed themed room! It did not disappoint, and its also carried many awesome books. I just wish I had more room to carry books home in my luggage.
The Last Bookstore is a book place like no other especially the second floor of books. A book for everyone here if you like the nostalgia of books. Every person in our group bought a book that fit their interests. The second floor is like being in a Harry Potter book as there are book passage ways and book art exhibits around every turn. They also have visiting artists and we bought quite a few pins and patches from their little corner of the bookstore. I will definitely be going back to this bookstore the next time we are in Los Angeles and buy more books. Books.
I love a good bookstore browse on my travels and had marked this one out for this trip.It deserves its high reputation, the building and layout is amazing with so many little curiosities that could keep you entertained on multiple return visits. It really feels like the type of bookstore your could spend days insideA good mix of new and used books and vinylStaff appeared helpful and store is well laid out with good signage to allow easy browsing.Bought myself a copy of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Great used bookstore in downtown Los Angeles! Two stories; huge selections of used books; decently priced too. They have interesting book decors throughout the stores as well. If you have big bags they will ask you to check them at the front; so keep this in mind when you are visiting. They also have some spaces for local artist to work/sell their arts. Definitely recommended to visit if you are in the area and a (usedbook lover.
What a marvellous experience. New and used books and much, much more..So many small artistic studios wrapped around the book store. Enriched in plentiful amusing creations and secret corners all with a unique theme/feeling. Staff were very helpful and nice to chat with. I wished I had my children with me as my son would probably ask to sleep over. If you want to get lost in this place eaten by books come here; it is the spot!🧡
A random discovery while we were looking for places to go to in downtown LA. Well-curated collection of new and old books. Be patient enough to walk till the last row on the top floor, which has books for one dollar each. Also checkout the special sections for various topics from horror to music. A great collection of photography books too. Also worth a visit to savour the shops interior design and arrangement of books
A cool bookstore that offers books of almost any genre imaginable while treating you to an antiquated ambiance that truly does make this look like a post-apocalyptic, mysterious bookstore. There are winding mazes throughout with books filled shelf to shelf and two stories to explore filled with seemingly infinite amount of stories (see what I did there? 😉). There are also neat art pieces to purchase to help out local artists. My favorite was the shop that contained Mad Max-esque art pieces.Overall a fun experience to go surf the pages and traverse the sinewing labyrinth of books.
I’ve been here many times and it’s always a great experience! So many different types of books to choose from!!! I’m giving it only 4 stars because the cashier on the first floor could’ve at least greeted us. Either way this library is the best!
Never thought I would have as much fun at a book store as we did today! Looking at all the cool displays and finding awesome spots to take interesting pictures. Its not just a store its an experience! We spent an hour going through all the nooks and crannies, most of the really cool displays are located on the 2nd floor and can be accessed by elevator or stairs, make sure to check out the stairs for a really odd book display that has kegs! Make sure to purchase a book during your visit or buy something from one of the art stores on the 2nd floor to help support and keep this place whimsical.
Might be the coolest bookstore Ive ever been to. Not for its modern look, but for its walls filth with history and culture. You can tell from the moment you walk into this bookstore that this is a traders dream. The smell of new and old books clashing with the huge mix of people from different walks of life transports you. It truly is an amazing place for books, art, and other trinkets. I highly recommend coming here even if you are not an avid reader.
This book store has an amazing collection of books. Theme decorated throughout. Theres also art displayed from different artists, a gift shop store with vintage items, fun art and gift souvenirs. The layout helps visitors take beautiful pictures. Unique design. Theres many areas to sit and enjoy a book. I noticed that theres options to buy, sell, or trade books. I loved this unique store.
Saw this book store as a recommended place to visit in LA. So many cool structures made out of books and interesting things to check out. You can actually spend up to two hours of your time browsing around and capturing nice photos for social media. Quite a busy spot. Clean and hand sanitizer is available. Check out the photos.
Just as awesome as I hoped! I could have stayed here all day, but the vacation must conclude today, so back to Phoenix we head. So many cool places inside one bookstore. Stores with the artists in them! Easily found my horror section and took home a souvenir! Cant wait to come back out and spend some quality time here!
One of the coolest bookstores I have ever been to! Set in what used to be a bank, there is not only an incredible collection of books but also a very creative and grandiose atmosphere with hidden gems and art galleries on the 2nd floor
i absolutely love coming here, today i found some great records and books for a reasonable price! They range from about .99-30 dollars depending on which ones you get. Everything here is organized by section and genre.
This is an incredible bookstore! The selection is like none other. You could spend hours in here if they had air conditioning, which they do not. So don’t visit May-September. There are smaller independent artists stores upstairs that you absolutely need to check out!
A dream come true for a bibliophile like myself! 😍 I could spend literal weeks inside this shop. It’s brilliant, eclectic, nostalgic and magical all rolled into one! Make sure you give yourself enough time to truly be immersed in this one-of-a-kind place!
An old and new book store with an amazing architecture. Probably the oldest bookplace in town. Building, interior everything gives the centuries old feel.I parked in next street for $10. There is no parking in front of it.
This is probably my favorite place in all of LA. I came here on a visit from Atlanta & didn’t want to come out of the store. There’s so much variety & the setup of all of the books is soooo cool! They also have shops on the top floor that support local artists & their merchandise is AMAZING. I couldn’t believe how many books I walked out of the store with. Such a great experience & definitely plan to visit again.
Very interest to visit. I am so regret that I put so little time to this place. I have found couple books that on sale for dirt cheap. But I cant find employee to verify the pricing. So that I didnt pick up. There are so many unique design around the store.
This place is amazing. It is the biggest bookstore ever. There are rare books, new books, comics, used books, tarot cards, games, records. A vending machine that sells non food items.Art galleries and shops are upstairs. If you like books, you will love this place.Plenty of spots for photo ops, like the tunnel of books, there are even couches to sit on.
A must visit if you are ever in LA! Such a cool place! The concept was that it would be the last ever book store in a world where brick and mortar is less and less common. They have cool structures inside made of books and such a large selections of amazing books and records! They even have space upstairs for in-resident artists who showcase their work!I highly recommend checking them out!
This book store is huge you can spend the whole day here. Its literally the size of a decent size library. They have a pretty big selection of vinyl records on the main level. Some cool art for sale on the second floor and a big sci-fi selection.Theres also a few lounging areas where you can sit and read, look over what youre planning on purchasing.
Everything is so well decorated and artsy which makes for a wonderful photo op. On google this bookshop is known as the most instagrammable bookshop and it seriously lives up to its title! There are art shops upstairs to: yarn shop and other paintings being sold* There are book sections that are sold for a dollar and then there are books sold for twenty six so always be on the lookout for a good price! They sell records downstairs. I was so happy when I found out The Last Bookstore sells Jamie Lynn Spears biography. The staff is nice so with your purchase you can get a bookmark and bag. *masks are still required in shop as of right now
Too good and too many books to choose from. Love the fact that they put both new and old books on the shelves. If you’re a thorough shelf browser, save a lot of time to visit the place. It’ll be worth your time.Parking is difficult around the store, but there are paid parking lots few blocks away.
I spent a few hours here and still dont think I saw everything. It is a bibliophiles dream. There was a line for opening at 11am on a Saturday but I barely saw anyone once I was inside. The record section was a pleasant surprise as well. I cant wait to go back and explore more.
Classic downtown LA landmark. Books and books and more books everywhere. Upstairs they have the cool "photo spots" and book vaults. You can even find books for $1. Only bad thing about this spot is there is no public restrooms. Understandable tho. Nonetheless this is a free spot and we found free parking.
This place is cool. In the middle of busy downtown LA, this oasis of reasonably priced (even cheap in lots of cases!books is also a fun and interesting experience. Kids and adults alike can find good books and have fun wandering the old bank/now bookstore.
Fantastic book shop! Basically a maze of books. Everything you can think of. Give the place some time! Youll need it to wander around and see all the magic. Great comic book selection: but look upstairs. The comic selection on the first floor is eh, but upstairs there is a whole room! Same goes for horror. Mountains of fantasy and scifi books.
This place is definitely a place to see. Aside from all the books to buy, they also have small gallery shows and pop ups that allow people to get their name and work out there. Low key, its a dope place for crate diggers fo sho. The set up is dope and everything about the place is a vibe.
As an artist you wanna paint in space you feel zen . Zen to every artist is different. This is my first collaboration 🖤we as individuals are artists . Together as a couple it is the most beautiful goal to accomplish of creating art together. To me I felt the book store was going to be the solution and it was until we went to paint at LA library because the book store we couldn’t find parking the second time . The first time we went we said let’s come back here to paint . So excited and looking forward then circling around couldn’t find parking on a different occasion so we went to paint at the nearby library and the art book level was where we belonged ❤️
A perfect place to all bibliophile!, You can buy and sell old and new books in here, a very nice place to visit something that you can do all year round! Paid parking available nearby.
Very cool bookstore with cool book-based sculptures and some art exhibits too. Wide variety of old and new books across multiple genres. Definitely worth a visit just to chill and enjoy.
Coolest place ever. The book tunnel, the tiny shops upstairs, the book art…it’s basically a museum haha
Absolutely speechless! The displays are amazing even if youre not interested in reading books. Definitely one of the best places in LA that you need to visit!
really lovely place for all things books!! they have every subject imaginable, new and used books. There are so many cool book related art pieces around, and actual art galleries on the second floor! The bottom floor is more traditional bookstore with the layout and types of books (with a movie and music section as well), but the 2nd floor is definitely my favorite, it has a very cozy feel with the unique layout and of course the famous book tunnel. There are places to sit and read too! A book-lovers paradise!
Absolutely wonderful staff who definitely have a passion for their craft; the inside makes you feel like youve stepped into a small series of gateways, each catered to specific groups of people. The little vendors areas also add a little sense of community that would be hard to match elsewhere. Recommended to all who may even be slightly interested in reading a good book.
dtlas favorite bookstore. Books of various genres are displayed in an orderly manner. Records are also displayed in addition to books. The inside of the store is a colonnade and has a feeling of openness, making it a very comfortable space for choosing books. I always stop by when I come to dtla in Los Angeles.
One of a kind bookstore that offers more than books- it has records and several whimsical stores that offer a variety of unique goods and artworks of all kids! Got to go here if you love books and a place to be amused!
I LOVED the place on my visit here! Got such a huge collection of books - it would take afternoons to go through. I would have loved to have more time to go through some of the sections. Its beautifully decorated too - for all the IG clicks, and theres a beautiful vinyl section for those interested. Definitely worth a visit for all the bookworms on your visit to LA!
This place is magic for everyone, but especially for book lovers!! The aesthetic is wonderful in an old bank. I love the comfy couches and fun art details. The book arches and photo ops are SO cool! The little shops were so fun too!! Dont miss out on the artisans upstairs. The record selection was large too. I love this place, and its 100% worth the stop. We even bought t-shirts, something we never do! Support your local book stores!!
Lots of interesting decorations. Owner definitely put a lot of effort into it to make it a unique experience. Staffs are super friendly and willing to help. The book collection is massive, but on the other hand, the massive volume and very coarse categorization makes it slightly difficult to find books of interest.
I went crazy! From the outside it seems pretty regular but once you get in, you’ll lose track of time. This bookstore looks like it was handcrafted with so much love. It is so big. Every corner is unique and every shelf has its own touch. You can actually take a tour around it like it was a museum. The books are cheap and they lots of other stuff: clothes, cds, galleries, workshops and shops. It is like its own book world.
This book store is so beautiful. Lots of areas for pictures to post on your IG. But also peaceful enough to grab a book and sis somewhere and read with no worries that you will be bothered. Also like any typical bookstore the pricing was fair. They also have a wide selection to choose from and even a few small gift shops upstairs! I purchased some works from the poet Edgar Allen Poe to read on my flight home! Will definitely be back.
If you love book stores.. You will be in heaven. The comic book section is in an old safe. Found the decor to be fantastic! The selection of books is incomparable to any store Ive ever been in. I ordered some books to have mailed. The staff is laid back and awesome 💜
The Last Bookstore is one of my favorite bookstores I’ve ever been to. Period. I love bringing newcomers to LA here. They are always impressed. Its so unique and beautiful. I think the space used to be a bank because it has all these vaults you can walk into that are now different book sections. They are a buy, sell, trade setup. I like seeing all the antique and old books they have on the shelves. There’s something about a used books that really fun. You can others old notes and I like to think about who were the previous owners of the books. They have art galleries upstairs where you can buy the art directly from the artists. Walk around and you will see these unique book sculptures like the tunnel made of old books you can walk under. They have music records too. A great collection. It is located in a vibrant part of downtown LA, surrounded by lots of bars and restaurants and skyscrapers.A must go for any book lovers or travelers to the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Never a bad time here; each time Im there its a little like getting lost in another dimension for at least a few brief minutes!Staff are pleasant and helpful, used book prices are excellent, the selection can be hot or miss... But you got here for the WHOLE experience, including the architecture, ghost stories, interacting with the staff, the art displays, and hidden gems and details. And its just down the street from Pershing square!Seriously, you need to check this place out!
A book can take you on adventures of all kinds. The last Book Store captures ones attention as vibrantly in real life❣️Creative Book Shingles on an non existent roof.Secret passages lead to great treasures.A tunnel of books you can walk through.Floating books.Enchanting ArtCan you find the old time floor vault and find what a hidden treasure awaits? The Rare Books AnnexAnd so much more 🤫
Super cool experience! I went to LA with some friends and on a whim stopped in. Definitely worth the time. The artists downstairs are talented, the books are vast, and the upstairs is a playground for bibliophiles. I think this is a great place to visit for anyone of all ages who love books!
