11A Northington St, Holborn, London WC1N 2JF, Victoria
Smart, tranquil decor pub with local ale and upstairs restaurant serving modern British cuisine.
Food and beer was great, waiter was really accommodating
Smashing service and good outside space for a lager on a sunny day
Booked to go for our 13th wedding anniversary. Website said “kitchen closed” but - on speaking to staff - they confirmed the kitchen was open. Very odd experience all round. Didn’t have our booking (despite email); short on red wines; no sparkling water or desserts at all. The (niceman serving us handling a group of 17 people, also being told the same bad news. Food was fine, but not worth the prices. We sat in the dining room by ourselves which was peaceful but lacked the buzz of being out to eat. Sadly couldn’t recommend this place for dinner.
Drank a pleasant pint downstairs at the end of a Mondays workday. Good vibes.
What a great find. Tucked away on a side street, you could easily miss this pub. It would be 5 stars but for the fact the kitchen wasn’t open this week and my first choice of ale was off (timing is everything). Otherwise, great service and great atmosphere. Not crowded at all, which was perfect.
Old school pub in a much under rated and atmospheric part of town
Good range of ales etc. Shocking bar service; took forever to get served. One of those pubs where the bar staff are indifferent to whose been waiting longest. Wont be going back
Gorgeous events venue. Delicious food, excellent wine, helpful service. Thank you!
Lovely roast, but the Crème Brûlée is not amazing
We went for Sunday lunch. Staff were very nice. The main course was very good. Especially the root vegetables, and Yorkshire pudding. The Creme Brûlée wasn’t great, and the accompanying shortbread biscuits were bland, which seemed like a strange choice.
Lovely venue and friendly bar staff. Highly recommend.
This place is a little treasure. I almost dont want to review it as I secretly hope it stays as it is and doesnt get busier or touristy!7 min walk from Chancery Lane Tube.Upstairs room to hire. Bar downstairs and a lovely looking dinning room x
Fantastic boozer, great service - food was lovely, as was the beer! Can’t wait to go back!!
Just brilliant as ever with wonderful drinks and food, lovely gem in London
Good roast lunch, bit quiet. Very good polite service. Bit drafty and would prefer a chair to a stool.
Down stairs looked great and full of people. We booked the private dinning room for 15. We arrived at 7.30 and the first course did not arrive until 8.45pm even when we selected our choices before we arrived. The pudding arrived at 10.45pm and we were all told we had to be out in 10 minutes because they were closing. The services was poor to the extreme, the waitress (only the onewas rude and bad tempered and the food was poor. Three of the team had to leave for trains before the main course and pudding which we had to pay for because it was pre ordered.
A great place, super cute (upstairs for dinner). I wouldnt suggest it for beer downstairs since it is super noisy. We had the burger and the trout and they were both great, super tasty and big portions. The come brulle was very tasty as well. The italian lady was very welcoming with the service. A nice choice for an affordable dinner in a pub.
Good pub food done well. Upstairs dining is in a lovely room with friendly staff. Nice bit of history around Lady O to see on the stairs 😀.
Friendly and knowledgable staff, decent selection of craft beers and OK food. A little cold and a little dirty considering how strongly it smelled of detergent.
Thought I was having a nice night drinking with work colleagues until the manager told us we were talking too loudly and should keep the volume down before someone complains. No one had complained, we were not talking loudly at all. Great pub if youre going to whisper.
Seriously, the best mushy peas I ever had. Not a fan of mushy peas to begin with, but I used to come for fish and chips, and make sure they have mushy peas. Now I have left the country, I haven’t found anything close.
Went middle of a Friday afternoon. Not busy. Lovely wooden tables, floor and bar. Good atmosphere
Only stopped for a swifto to skive a quick snifta but a classy little joint in quiet, leafy side road despite central location.Guinness top notch and Neck Oil a fair option. One cask ale on offer. Guess I should be going back now. Maybe another half?.
A nice quiet pub, even on England vs Scotland match day. Managing lady is friendly and really helpful. A nice location for a chat or a night out with a small group. Might be tricky for a group bigger than 4. Decent food, they serve their own lager which is decent. Will be visiting again.Make sure to book in advance.
Had a wonderful lunch as always at Lady Otterline. The roast is fantastic with generous portions. Service was quick and friendly. So good to be back here! Would thoroughly recommend it
Bar staff moody, unprofessional, inattentive and wholly unpleasant. If you want service with a smile, this place is not for you.It would be nice to be greeted into an establishment rather than ignored.Avoid
The discreet location and extensive gin collection was appealing but unfortunately thats where this fairy tale ends. The service was non-existent with the bartenders (yes pluralmore attentive to the curtains, seating and deafening silence of the venue than customers seated arms length from the bar. Were in the middle of Pandemic, why are customers seated for 15 minutes before acknowledgement and even then not take an order?Id rather drink vanilla essence in the street than visit this venue again.
Amazing pub in Bloomsbury! Loved the ambience and the food was excellent. I had a delicious ox cheek and my friend got a classic fish and chips and both were really good. Would definitely recommend!
Busy downstairs with Friday night drinkers a couple of weeks ago, the dining room upstairs was surprisingly quiet. We were a group with lots to talk about and the location, food and service were perfect. This was my fifth visit - but over 3 years. My expectations have always been exceeded, whether by a gin recommendation, an interesting angle on a traditional menu item, relaxed but attentive service, use of the private dining room or just an all-round great experience.Opening hours have been extended to every day which is much appreciated.
Really lovely, chilled bistro pub. The decor is lovely, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It’s in a really nice location too. The food was absolutely delicious! And service was so quick. If I am ever in the area, I will definitely come here again for a meal!
Great Sunday lunch, friendly service, lovely traditional interior
Had Sunday Roast today at 2pm - they were running out of meats and the veg was limited to peas, carrots - what happened to seasonal greens, cauliflower cheese and roast parsnips. They had also run out of the one and only cheese on the desert menu. It was not very busy, so was a bit of a mystery why they seemed so ill prepared. The ground floor furniture has also been changed since we last visited - the light coloured wood tables do not match the rest of the decor. We have been many times before on both Sunday’s and weekdays and what used to be a brilliant, cosy and innovative gastro pub has clearly lost its mojo. They need someone to put some sparkle back in the place or we will find another cosy Sunday venue, which would be a crying shame.
The Lady Ottoline is one of my favourite spots in London! The best beer you can find and fantastic service. The decor is gorgeous- especially the upstairs dining room! Extremely friendly Manager here too :D
Very quiet on a Saturday evening. Dinner was excellent, and good value for money. A refreshingly interesting menu without being pretentious. Service was friendly, and the music was great if you remember the 90s. I imagine the upstairs dining room would be preferable on a busier night, but I cant really fault the meal or the atmosphere that we had downstairs. Nice original ceiling, too.
Very warm and relaxed atmosphere, not particularly crowded during the week adn almost empty during the weekends. The crowd is made of lawyers and solicitors working nearby. Good pub food and desserts, good choice of independent beers (neck oil my pick). I was looking for a pub where I could have a beer, play chess and then have a steak: the Lady Ottoline resulted to be a great choice.
Amazing beautiful pub, the best Sunday roast I had in London! Gorgeous wYorkshire pudding tender meat and superb local ales! A place to go back
It’s a great atmospheric Gastropub. Definitely worth a visit.
We used to really like this pub as a quiet spot after work. Recently there has been an annoying trend where the tables in the front half of the bar are reserved, leaving very little space for everyone else. Also the beer selection, availability and quality (taste and gashave been iffy recently. Was in on Wednesday. Beavertown neck oil was off and the other pale ale was flat and unpleasant. My colleagues who were drinking cask beer also were very unimpressed. We left after one beer to go somewhere else (craft beer Cowith more seating and a better beer selection.Staff could also do with an injection of personality and friendliness.Disappointing.
Small nicely presented pub. Plenty of gin varieties to choose from.
Although some of the food wasnt awful, the service was particularly bad, our waiter having a sour mood and being very rude, slamming glasses on the table. We had a girl on our team with a severe allergy to milk, to which we were told several times that there was no dairy in the food. One bite into the meal and she had had a reaction, we were offered little compensation and the waiter was very unapologetic. Food was overpriced for what it was and my meal also came without dairy although I had not requested it, and also came without chips. Will not be coming back.
Thank you The Lady Ottoline for receiving my very first one star review. Would rather have given it zero if I had the chance. It might have been 4 or 5 stars if it werent for one individual. One of bar staff totally ruined an otherwise nice mid week dinner/evening. One of my friends was accused of puking in the toilets when hed been sitting down for no more than about 45 minutes. Im not even sure if he had even managed to go to the toilet. In any case, he would have been the very last person to either puke or if it was ever the case make a mess. I have literally no idea where this individual got the idea from. They accused us of being drunk when we were little more than tipsy and far less so than many of the others in the pub.Of course, going to the bar and trying to get to the bottom of things myself resulted in more inaccurate accusations.First time in 30 years Ive had that sort of experience an any pub. Shockingly bad. So sad that I liked the place otherwise.
Lay Ottoline continues the trend in London of quality gastropubs and does it very well. The pub itself has classic decor with wood panels and ornate lighting to give a warm and welcoming vibe. The staff are all well versed in the drinks and food available, are friendly and willing to help with any requests. The food is cooked to a good standard and as the same owners as the Princess Victoria near Shepherds Bush, their scotch eggs are particularly good. The daily menu tends to change depending on what seasonal produce they have and is more akin to relaxed fine dining rather than pub grub. The prices, given the location, are pretty standard with the quality being anything but. The roasted cod was cooked perfectly and flaked beautifully and was accompanied with soft new jersey potatoes and pickled cabbage. The tortellini was simarly well prepared and presented and the fish and chips generously portioned. The atmosphere was perfect for a friends catch up meal and is also perfect for a quiet date. The pub also caters for more private dining with a separate dining room available to be booked.Only criticism was that on the evening I went there was only one staff member serving the entire dining room (around 20-25 customers in total), but he was polite and apologised for the delay.
Best pub in Bloomsbury!! Cozy and dog friendly pub serving delicious food. I had a burrata salad and my friend had their burger. Both dishes were excellent! They have a great gin collection as well. The staff are super friendly and helpful.
Amazing food, nice atmosphere and so friendly staff.
Now re opened has wonderful restored interior, outside still being completed as I visited. Good choice of beers on and I hope that it has great success and is as good as it used to be, looking forward to many more eveningsJune 2017: Superb evening, staff were attentive and gave great service. Menu is simple but food is best quality. Loved it
I was at the reopening if this cute pub last Saturday. I was pleased to see its not the typical smelly pub, instead the decor its vintage and elegant and the atmosphere is very cozy. I tried a porter beer, haggis scotch egg, pork belly with shallots and mash and an indulgent toffee banana dessert, very good food indeed . All rinsed down by a nice bottle of red wine.It was a lovely evening, with good food and drinks, lovely staff, in a cozy pub, will be back for more!My only note : leave the skin on that pork belly! :)
Fresh clean and well prepared food. Good selection of wine and ales. Table service. Lovely atmosphere. Attentive staff. Only bugbear is the menus are so posh I cant even read most of it. Its very upper crust and priced as such. Oh and... for a £14 burger 🍔 you better grind the meat on site so it can be served rare... even Medium rare. Jeez
Nice atmosphere and staff but Very disappointed by the food. The starters/bites are all fried and not really tasty. The dishes are made with good quality ingredients but its not really elaborate and quite oily. We didnt even finish our plates. All this would have been ok if the price was good but we paid 90 pounds for 2 bites and 3 mains. Definitely not worth it.(This restaurant made me write my first ever review on google... just wanted to let people know)
Went there with my colleagues for Christmas dinner.Absolutely lovely place, the servers were lovely - they made the place feel like home.My steak was seriously undercooked for my taste (we didnt actually mention how we want our stakes in our orderbut they were more than happy to throw it on the grill again for me.Lovely food - definitely restaurant worthy - you dont usually find food like this in a pub. They have a large variety of drinks there.I cannot find reasons to give less stars as me and my colleagues had an absolutely lovely time there and will be definitely going by again.
We had booked a table for 3pm and had to wait until 3.40pm to be seated. Our wine then took a further 20 minutes to get to the table. The service after that was pretty lacklustre. The Sunday veggie option (squash wellingtonwas nice but not great and my friends said the beef roast was ok - but the puddings were absolutely amazing. I wouldnt go there again for a roast.
