Contemporary coaching inn renovation with beer garden serving cask ales and unpretentious pub meals
The food was great, apart from the onion rosti, the styling of the restaurant was lovely and the staff were great
We called in for food after work and the food was delicious highly recommended
Excellent food and excellent service! Will definitely make a return visit!
Disappointed overall. The food was OK, but the service was very disjointed. Mini dessert and coffee arrived separately. We were served by 5 different waiters/waitresses.
Had a nice chacuterie board. No real ale, which was a pity, but otherwise a pleasant lunch.
This is a lovely gastro pub, very nice inside with a good menu and welcoming.
Went there on Sunday at 3 15pm with two friends who had the roast dinner. The carrot(1and potatoe (1 plus one tiny onewas rock hard. They did not get steak knives. The yorkshire pudding a lumpy flat thing. I asked if they had a better one and they didnt. The meal was not particularly hot. My sea bass was lovely but there was not enough of the risotto that came with it. Why do people who choose Risotto get small amounts and the roast dinners are massive. We were offered a table with two chairs and a stool. We asked for a chair. Altogether a disappointing expereince after the write ups I had read about it. I would have emailed the pub directly but cant find an e mail address.
We popped in for a family lunch … 5 adults and 2 children… Sunday lunch . Shared board and two lots of bread … roasts , on side , two deserves and three mini deserts … bottle of wine for £25 … £320 ! £60Roast lamb was nice in terms of the meat , but £20 … for a parsnip ( singular a carrot ( singular a Yorkshire , three soft potatoes ( work on your roasting guys as this was poor and a few peas , for £20 !Not good value and under seasoned . Not a lot of taste was the general feedback from your group.Service was good and the staff were friendly but this was over priced and shockingly bad value .. ok , it’s Cookham you might say , but at least cool the food well and be generous with the veg !Probably won’t be back until they get bought by someone else .
Me and my friend had the Lamb roast and the beef duo. The meat itself was good, the veg was cooked perfectly, just not very big portions. The potatoes were under cooked which for me makes the rosst so a little disappointed. Felt it wasnt very good value for money. I couldnt fault the staff in any way at all. Great service.
I travel a lot these days and in particular over the last 3 months across Europe and the US. I got the best meal Ive eaten in the last 3 months here. Seriously good food - so good I had to go and have a word with the head Chef. Loved it and the layout decore is supurb too.
We both had an excellent time. Infact, we enjoyed our evening and I posted on my Facebook page about it, also I gave a positive review on TripAdvisor the next day.Went to celebrate my wife passing her exam.We loved the open fires, the decor, service and of course the food.We also thought that it was good value for money and not too pricy.Already making plans to come back again!
It was good to go back - our first visit since the recent refurb. We loved all the new furniture and decor, and there seems to be more light and space in some of the restaurant areas. Staff were polite and efficient, and we really enjoyed our visit.
Amazing food and service, better management from before covid.
Great location next to the Stanley Spencer gallery in Cookham. Comfortable snug. Friendly service. Broad menu - 90 per cent on the journey to remarkable.
The make over is superb! The various rooms have been beautifully decorated and the whole place is very welcoming. Of course the staff are all brilliant! We visit every Thursday and Kath, Tom and the team look after us brilliantly. We could not want for a better pub.
I came on the opening night after it’s been tarted up. What a difference it looks amazing and I got to speak to the manager Charlotte. She’s a lucky lady having such a beautiful pub
This gorgeous country pub has just had a refurb! Wow! Warm intimate spaces, cosy corners, fabulous new restaurant decor and flattering new lighting (all vintage contemporary), make this place the perfect setting. Food was fab. We had a sharing platter to start called ‘Sticky Pig Board’ - lots of delicious ‘bites’ of pork belly, sausage and game rolls, meaty Bon Bons etc but the stand out for me was the perfectly cooked, open warm scotch egg! So good! To follow, I had the Truffle Mushroom Risotto (I’m a truffle fanand it was gorgeous - I recommend adding the fresh Parmesan shavings that come in a little pot to really indulge! The team of staff in this place were fantastic before the refurb and you can really tell they love working there, which just rounds off the whole experience for us. Oh, and my hubby was raving about the new brioche bread & butter pudding, which had choc chips instead of raisins (he hates raisins- he’s a very happy man! Thank you King’s Arms, Cookham for a wonderful evening - we will be back!
Just had a great late Sunday lunch at the Kings Arms Cookham with our large family group. Several large groups already in the ante-room we were sharing, but we never felt forgotten about with the attentive service of Courtney. Drink orders were frequent and the variety of lunches ordered all came out together and were enjoyed by everyone. My roast beef and Yorkshire pudding were perfectly cooked. Thanks to chef Frankie. We’ll be back soon.
Mothers Day.Went with my daughter and wife for Mothers day, very busy and a deposit taken when you book. Fair enough. On arrival seated quickly and the general feel of the place is good, lots of staff about. The drinks order and food order were taken in good time. Thats were the good bits end Im afraid. Starters came out very slowly. I had the mushrooms and bread, bland ,small portion. My wife and daughter had the brie in crumbs. Average at best. The main course took a long long time, it was busy so not a shock. The order of chateaubriand was extra ,we went for it and ordered medium rare ,my daughter had a burger. The beef was overdone, medium +, the outside was burnt, the roast potatoes were anemic and had the extra cauliflower cheese, again burnt....My daughter burger was dry and overcooked. Dessert was ordered, I had cheese, that was chilled but ok. My wife had chocolate brownie, that was very nice, and my daughter had creme brulee that was also nice, not crisp top but ok. So yes was Mothers day and very busy, but food was not good, we didnt complain as my daughter would have been embarrassed. But definitely wouldnt recommend.
Extremely poor service, ordered a drink had to go and get it myself.Had steak, had to go and ask for a steak knife.Just waiting ages for everything. It was very quiet, so no excuses.Wouldve been 1 star. But the food was good
As a group of 10 people plus 2 dogs we were delighted by the reception, service and quality of the food.
Amazing food, brilliant service from Lewis, great atmosphere outside, would definitely recommend
A pleasant meal out after a long walk. Food was delicious and the staff team very accommodating. Shout out Chef Ben and our lovely server Bilal for all their hard work keeping our table of picky waters happy!
I visited this pub with friends on the afternoon of Saturday 9th July. We had drinks in the garden, so cannot speak about the interior. It is an old, historic, building in the centre of Cookham and the staff are very friendly.
I just want to say, bilal is the best waiter I’ve had the pleasure of being served by in the last few years, he was super quick, was extremely funny and so kind to all of our group, Courtney also helped him out.
Lovely pub, great food and very helpful staff! They also have on site parking which is always a plus. Plenty of lovely outdoor space and very nice and cozy interior.
Relaxing garden area good roast pork meal and nice waiter Cormac and generally friendly staff. All round good experience. Thank you.
Food was delicious and came out promptly. Servers were excellent Bilal, Richard &
Very nice pub does lovely cocktails and tasty food! Definitely recommend! Staff friendly
Staff were lovely, friendly and willing to please. Food was delicious. Sat in the garden and it was a really nice afternoon, Thankyou.
Came for Father’s Day lunch, and they had a lovely menu for the day that was a great price at 3 courses for £24.85. The food was really delicious, and the staff were very friendly. The service was particularly slow, even with the excuse of a busy restaurant/holiday, and the facilities were somewhat clean. Adequate options for vegan and gluten free diets, and always a bonus that they are dog friendly, with a lovely garden.
We were welcomed attentively when we walked in. As the sun was shining we were offered options on tables inside & out. Service was swift & again attentive when taking our order with complementary comments on food selection.
Still four stars Im afraid. Nice place for spontaneous meal on a lovely evening. Staff apologised that there was half an hour between "light bite" and burger coming out of the kitchen, explained the system treats them as starter and main for one person not 2 meals, but agreed its not usually right. Food was good, drinks table service excellent, really happy you kept that system from when it was mandated. Lots of smoke in the garden, could we have a non-smoking outdoor area please?
Eaten here twice now, ate the first time and it was so good I came back for more! The chefs Jodie and Frankie make delicious food, which is served by the friendliest bar staff, Will and Aaron! Aaron couldn’t do enough for us and gave us lovely friendly chats and banter. It kind of reminded me what pubs used to be like, before they all became massive ‘chain’s’, where you could chat to the barman and he knew your name! If your looking for a lovely country pub, with great food and a warm welcome, look no further! 5 stars all the way guys!
Great service. That one waiter bilal was stellar. Really funny and had great fun with him. The chips he brought over were spectacular and he really made my day. Give that man his £5 bonus!
Unfortunately my order was mixed up. I asked for the chicken burger but got the chicken bites as a starter. Then had to wait a long time for the food to come. The chicken bites that I had were very dry.The salad, was very average. I have to say the food wasn’t the best. The garden in itself is very big and has a lot of potential, but it is not kept very well
Booking a table was quick and easy with the on-line booking system. The interior was pleasant. It was good that the dining area was away from the bar.I expected to see a wider range of real ales "on". Why not have one or two from local breweries? Our waitress was superb. She was very helpful (a request to exclude a particulart ingredient from one meal was no problemand checked back to ensure everything was OK.The good was very well presented on the plates and tasted good. Everyone was pleased there was a good range of items to choose from on the menu. One of my passengers has a disability, so it was pleasing to find "Blue badge" parking spaces in the car park very close to the side entrance (which had a ramp).
More than disappointing experience on Sunday. One hour wait for food and when it arrived it was a sticky solid block of rice with a minimal amount of curry sauce poured over. I would have refused it but by that time my friend and I were hungry and no time to go anywhere else as we had to meet friends. Big mistake Kings Arms. Those friends asked how it was and they were told. Apologies were made by the barman but no excuse offered and no offer of making up for a bad meal. Huge mistake - we wont be coming again and word spreads like wildfire in Cookham.
Lovely pub with parking. We were a group of 6 who had a variety of meals and desserts. Everything was great. We will be back!
lovely pub with lots of different areas for both eating and drinking. Some are more open than others which makes it appropriate for every occasion. Our book club met in the snug which was ideal for our purposes. The drinks menu was varied and catered for all tastes. The staff were lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
In a nice location in Cookham. Has several dining rooms inside and a lovely garden with seating outside. Good service from the waiting staff and the food was tasty. I had the pork belly which came with a good selection of veg plus Yorkshire pud and crackling. Lovely gravy. Option of a mini dessert with tea or coffees. Asked for tap water which didnt come but I didnt really miss it. Also no option for ice cream or custard with mini dessert. Prices reasonable for Cookham
Super nice pub with lots of cozy areas to tuck yourself away in. Really lovely service, they were understanding about our noisy toddler and provided crayons and paper to keep him occupied. Food was good, would have liked a bit more spice on the salt and Szechuan pepper squid but it was beautifully cooked. My husband loved his pizza and my veg curry was super tasty.
We had a meal last night at the Kings Arms and oh what a delight to the taste buds. It was the best meal I have had in a long long time. The staff were very friendly and I would definately recommend. It only lost one star as the service was a little slow at the end but they were busy. Will definately be going back again.
Great service, decent food, reasonable prices. Good sized carpark. Attentive staff. We enjoyed our meal there with some locals, very happy to go there again.
Pretty disappointing. We came for a special occasion lunch on a weekday and left very underwhelmed. While the plating of the food was pretty, unfortunately thats where it ended. The lunch salads sounded great on the menu but essentially what appeared on my plate was a pile of raw vegetables with some peashoots and duck dumped on top. No attempt to dress anything except the duck. The place is beautifully decorated and would have a nice atmosphere at the weekend but is let down by the halfhearted attempts by the kitchen. We will not be returning.
Food was good but the staff need some training. Main course and desserts slow to come out but what I found most unprofessional was seeing a staff member having their lunch in the restaurant...while we were waiting for our meal.
A lovely Boxing day lunch with family.Food was of good quality, service good. Would recommend this restaurant.
A gem of a village pub, would rate more than five stars! Exceptional service from the young waiters, very accommodating and astute, expecially Becky who asked how we would like our food cooked, and asked if we had any alergys, I was very impressed, sat in the lovely sunny beer garden, social distancing was adhered to, food was on par to a mitchelin star status, perfect presentation, the flavours and tectures blended in exceptionally well, divine, obviously were be back, highly recommend
Very nice restaurant with garden. Really nice food and had a great evening.
Amazing Vegan Food! Found this little gem by chance and wow we were so impressed. You hope its going to be good when they have a seperate vegan menu and we are not let down. Service was very friendly and the pub is lovely, cant wait for a random date day in the summer as the garden is fantastic. Onsite carpark too which is a bonus. Highly recommend the treacle and pecan dessert!
