Portsmouth Road Ripley, Ripley, Woking GU23 6EZ, Koupela
A no-nonsense chain pub with a menu of traditional British dishes and a family-friendly vibe.
Despite being outside under the marquee in a massive storm we had an enjoyable afternoon. We ordered a bunch of starters and the food came very fast and was very hot. They staff were very friendly and accommodating too. I only gave it 4 instead of 5 stars as I did not really get to try much of the menu aside from a few of the starters
Excellent for kids, good food and service. Extensive outside space with playground for kids. Need to book in advance if you want indoor seating on a weekend etc.
An old haunt which has changed over the years. It had been a while since going back but the food is lovely, staff are lovely & also wheelchair accommodating/accessible. Love, love, love it here. A real family favourite.
Booked a table for three, for a small birthday treat and it was well received.A keen and friendly staff never seemed too far away, despite having to service indoor and outdoor covers. A drink had to be returned as it was not opened at the table but that was the only hiccup. The selection of fare was large and varied and the portions of the mains were ample but we had to sample the deserts, which were all inviting. Very good veggie/vegan choices. Will return and will recommend to others.
Very generous portions and super quality food. Plenty of vegan options also really tasty! We were visiting the area so its not local....shame, as we would really recommend it. Waiter service was very friendly and helpful too.
Disappointed.Nice staff, thats about it.Food was cold, sitting area was cold, I just wanted to go home. One of us ordered "Bread & olives", the balsamic vinegar was missing and the olive oil was all but olive oil, see picture. The rest looked like it had been sitting on the side for a few hours before being served.I had to fetch my own cuttlery for the main meal...Well not go back.
Lovely place to go with family or friends, nice outside seating area as well, lovely varied menu.
Very nice, but more like a restaurant than a pub. Not exactly easy to just walk in for a drink when the staff have clearly been told to force the food options.
What can I say, apart from great friendly and efficient staff. The food was excellent and would recommend to all my friends and family
The food was fantastic and far exceeded my expectations. The garden area was fab for adults with a great sun shaded area. The play area is a fantastic addition and was loved by my boys. I noted the garden is also dog friendly with sectioned areas if you have reactive pups and fancy a pub visit with them. Very friendly and helpful staff. Spotlessly clean facilities even when very busy when we visited. Well done to all staff there.
Superb dinner. We were a group of nine. Cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with their visit here. Beautifully designed seating areas for eating. Plus plenty of attractive areas outside too. The Service was equally superb Staff were very professional and friendly. Thank you
Waited 3/4 of an hour for food to turn up after ordering. My friends food looked good and tasted ok , until she found a long hair attached to her potato, she was instantly put off and felt quite unwell with the thought of anything else offered. The cost of her meal was taken off her bill after complaining. The service was slow, there was a distinct lack of customer service, which was a shame, because the surroundings had all the qualities of being a lovely place for a meal out.
Lovely food and great service. We had a great meal and will definitely stop in again if we are travelling that way :)
Great experience outside under a big top tent-like structure. Large menu, although the burger was a little disappointing in its presentation. 5 ⭐️ is for the service from a young lady with blonde hair tied up with a big hair claw at the back. She is (sadlya rare breed of waitress/waiter these days in that she was attentive, proactive, kind and clearly always keeping an eye on us. It really made the Jovial Sailor stand out in my mind (and no doubt my memoryand I shall return as a result!
Great food and friendly efficient service. Very spacious outdoor eating area with huge cover. Ideal for sun or rain. Plenty of heaters and pretty lights. Best pub in the area.
Really cannot be bothered with listing all the mishaps on our first dining occasion at this Baron Pubs Establishment but they were numerous. Main point was that the food was DIRE then they tried to overcharge us on the drinks. The staff were polite but didnt seem to know what they were doing. I would usually be a little harsher with my review on a place like this but it was the first time at this Pub and we all decided it would be the last. Found a far better pub known as The Seven Stars the just a couple of miles away.
Food was super and staff welcoming
We like the Barons chain and have driven passed here a few times so decided to pop in.Ummmm it was busy out doors so we dined in, only a couple of tables in use.Just appeared to be alot of staff but noone getting anywhere fast if you know what I mean.Had to wait a while to be seated as waiting for menus??..waited a long time for drinks (family of 5food was nice although spent a while looking for the halloumi in the veggie burger!!...that said we all enjoyed our meals. We had to wait to pay the bill in the end I left my husband to it and me and the children waited outside. If your passing Id definitely go in but we wont be rushing back.Their branch The Inn@ West End takes some serious beating on the customer service front.10/10.
What a great way to spend Sunday afternoon, great food as always staff were amazing, still can not believe Emma the waitress has not watched when Harry met Sally😊 I am sorry I did not get our servers name we were on table 73 from 14pm he was really helpful with my sister requirements. But all staff great from moment I’ve arrived.
Very good first impressions. Nice Meantime pale on draft. My fish and chips were top notch and decent value for money. Will be back.
We went there today with my husband and a baby. Nice place, lovely garden but our food was mediocre and I received poor service. Long story short, 40 minutes of trying to order pudding - waving, asking for menu, then reminding the guy that I am still waiting for the dessert menu, getting the menu finaly and waiting ages for someone to walk pass by us to order, I gave up. Waiters seemed to engage more with older guests so maybe this was one off fail, but enough frustrating for me to not want to come back again.
Lovely place and would definitely recommend. Portions are large. I had the ultimate burger which was ok but nothing to write home about. Cant speak regarding the rest of the menu but my partner had the scampi which she said was nice. The staff were friendly and we all had a lovely day. Also, the added bonus of having a childrens play area was excellent.
Friendly welcome. Although we had not booked, a table was found straight away. Friendly, fast service. Great menu, food delivered freshly cooked and was delicious. Decent size portions meant no dessert was needed. Fair price for the the whole package. It was a fitting end to what had been a nautical couple of days away.
Lovely pub just outside of Ripley, very popular too.Has a good selection of food on offer and a huge outdoor seating area and kids play area. The inside is also very nice and welcoming. Can get very busy though at peak times so finding a parking space in the car park could be tricky.Has great staff too always made to feel very welcome.
Not your standard pub grub! Absolutely love this place. Made a last minute booking and we enjoyed every bit of it. A few teething issues but they were rectified immediately. Definitely coming back.
Lovely setting, menu had a good variety to suit all dietry needs. The food was delicious and served to a high presentation. Top stars were the staff who were friendly, welcoming and very much a credit to the whole experience. 👏
Thank you to all your staff who looked after us this afternoon for our friends 50th wedding anniversary. They were efficient, helpful and very polite dealing with 20 plus guests in the garden. The outside area is so pleasant and we so lucky with the weather. Thanks again for a great afternoon
Really enjoyed our visit to The Jovial Sailor, staff and service was great. Food was excellent pub grub with big portion sizes.
Good food and service . Unfortunately Unfortunately the table we had was in an alcove close to other tables. Which had a party of 4 adults and 4 children. So quite noisy if your trying to have a quiet meal and a conversation.
A very pleasant experience. The food is excellent and the young team who run it are extremely polite and attentive. Much more of a restaurant than a pub. If you are looking for a really nice meal in good, clean surroundings then the Jovial Sailor is a reliable choice. Not the cheapest but you are getting excellent quality. Highly recommended.
Really nice pub situated in Ripley. Menu is varied and provides a choice for everyone. Food was really nice and staff were really friendly and attentive. We sat in the garden under the gazebo and the kids played in the little play area. More than enough to keep the little ones busy whilst you enjoy a cold drink!
Went for lunch, food was great, all the staff were friendly, attentive, knowledgeable of their menus.A great family pub to visit.
Very enjoyable, the food was lovely and the garden looks great. Will be returning next week with my son and daughter in law.
Nice pub with nice garden, however food and service severely lacking. I had the steak and for the price the cut of beef was cheap and poorly cooked and not worth what was paid. The portions of food were small and service was very slow taking almost a full hour to receive our mains after our starters. Even when we ordered 1 drink it took over 20 minutes for that one drink to appear. Probably will not return here again.
Visited mid-afternoon on a weekday after hospital appointment which required fasting so ravenous. Friendly, attentive staff. Food, hot fresh and beautifully prepared. Hogs Back T.E.A. on handpump - just what the doctor ordered!
A great country pub, plenty of outdoor seating with a large canopy with NO SMOKING. Which is ideal for me. A really decent menu and plenty of drinks to choose. The staff extremely friendly and helpful.
excellent staff and food! should worth more than 4.3 in average👍🏼
Not our first trip, but this time a great disappointment, ordered drinks while deciding what to eat and they took over 45 mins to arrive and that after chasing up twice. food then ordered and over an hour after ordering one side arrived and seeing all the knives and forks we were asked in a surprised voice if we were expecting more.Upon explaining things we were assured some action. After another 10 mins a manager arrived, apologized profusely, offered a substantial discount and said he would investigate. When food finally arrived it was a mixed bag, some was barely lukewarm and some cremated others were spit on. 2 meals were completely wrong and only arrived correct after everyone else had nearly finished. Had the manager not upgraded the discount to no charge we would have sent some of them back.As it was we were grateful to be fed and hope this was a one off experience.
What a lovely surprise it was to find that this quirky pub had so much to offer, from very well organised different outdoor seating areas with a huge marquee, private huts to ample indoor seating are with rustic decor. The service was carried out by friendly and warm stuff, and they catered for a variety of dietary requirements.
We have just had a meal In Jovial sailor in one of their huts. There was 4 of us and a dog for my birthday treat. We were greeted by one of the managers James and served by Jess, they were excellent, very attentive, very good knowledge of all aspects of hospitality and nothing was too much trouble. The food was great and overall we had a lovely evening and will strongly recommend you. Thank you again and hope to see you soon.
Great meal from an interesting menu. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. I am tempted to say at least 50% of choices fall into that category. For the first time ever, I ordered a vegan main: enchiladas, not because I wanted a vegan meal but because I like Mexican food. It was very good although I found the vegan cheese tasteless. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The only slight downside is that, as happens in so many places, once they clear the dirty crockery from the mains, the staff disappear. We finally were able to get to see pudding menus. I was driving so cannot speak to the drinks menu but it seemed good. There is a huge outdoor seating area, including a garden bar, which must be busy in warmer weather.
Good atmosphere, only passing by but staff were friendly. Food was decent and prices reasonable too.
Comfortable quick lunch - outdoors "pod" (shedbooked, covid friendly and sensitive behaviour from staff, would definitely eat there again.
Weve not been here for a while so we rocked up yesterday for a late lunch, it was busy & we hadnt booked but we got a nice table inside. Theres plenty of choice on the menu & the food was well presented & tasty. Despite eating too much I had to have the apple crumble. Our server Lauren was brilliant (as were all the staffonly downside was your coffee machine wasnt working but otherwise a great experience.
First visit to the Jovial Sailor. Easy access from northbound or southbound A3. Ample parking. Warm welcome from the staff sets the tone for excellence in customer service. The staff really dont stop and despite being a Sunday lunch time, they were fabulous. Covid-19 secure practices. Large indoor bar and dining area and large outdoor dining area much of which is covered by an extensive canopy à la O2 dome in Greenwich. On a very hot summers day it was very welcome. Play area for younger kids. Excellent food choices for vegetarians and vegans which in these days of restricted menus was most welcome. The food was well cooked, well presented and was delicious. I can definitely recommend the BBQ jack(fruit& cheese plant-based burger vegan option for those looking for a lighter meal and Judes blood orange sorbet was deliciously frozen on a scorcher of a day. Everything is disabled-friendly (under the canopy is a slightly uneven surface). If youre in the area, give them a try. Hope to visit again.
Great Saturday in the garden with good service from the staff in difficult times and drunken customers. Did their best to keep everyone safe and with a smile. Lovely food and great drink choices lovely cocktails to try too, there are more heaters required for the chilly evenings as only a couple of tables had them with many more without them. Would love to return when the whole place is opened up again. Highly recommended.
Great service, lovely staff and delicious food. We had a dog with us too and the actual pub doesnt allow dog inside however, we had booked a hut in the garden area. The hut was heated and had doors if it was cold. We left them open and were warm enough. Theres also a dog station with water bowls and things .The menu was great, I was stuck between a few options on the menu so will have to go back again to try some food. They do also have a vegan menu and happy hours!
Lovely surroundings, vintage interior. Menu good value. They do a daytime menu and evening set menu. Chef and Brewer menu.Today the sun was out and we sat outside. It was very pleasant.I do think the daytime menu is actually very good value.
Lovely Summers day we decided to go to the Jovial Sailor in Ripley. Having driven past the this place so many times it was nice to eventually visit. The day time menu was reasonable so i had fish and chips with extra bread. My only criticism was the fish was oiley and slightly over done. The pub itself was lovely and the staff pleasant. The beer garden was massive. Car parking was free but you do have to register the car at the bar.
Very nice, well kept interior that is very inviting to be in. Had Fish & Chips from the lunch menu and it was very tasty but the portion size was very small, fish and peas. its pitched higher in class and maybe a bit on the cost side, so really food should be a reasonable size. Overall, lovley place and would return to give it another try. lots of sofas inside which is always nice to.
