The Jefferson - Bar in Auckland, New Zealand
Indeed it is the best whiskey bar in town. Looking forward to the reopening!
An absolutely fantastic place. This is the absolute most go to place for any whiskey lover with over 600 whiskies available.
Lived in Auckland when this place opened, raved about it as I used to go a bit. Took my wife there this weekend as we were up for a weekend away without the kids and walked all the way from the other side of the viaduct to ensure I go show her. What a waste of time and money. 5 staff, us and 3 other customers.3 staff with masks and 2 no masks. by the time we left no staff was wearing masks except person checking vaccine passes, not greeting and generally looked like he CBF to be there. Not one smile from anyone. Ordered cocktails and received them within 2 or 3 minutes. My wifes cocktail tasted fine. Mine was an Old fashioned. nothing special. my glass didnt smell like orange like the guys used to make it. rub the rim and glass. the 1 little ice cube not the way they used to have huge cubes and nice glasses. $40 for a forgettable experience. wish they had closed down instead of now spoiling it and ensuring I would never recommend it again to any of my hospitality loving friends.
Outstanding evening - beautiful bar.. With all the finest whiskeys youd want to get your lips around. Ambience and Decor are stunning...entry to the bar.. Second to none 💙Sensational staff - great environment. DEFINETLY on your MUST VISIT or MUST BOOK VENUE for your own boutique party 🎉🍻🎊Well done staff - management and owners be proud of your work... 5 x STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Friendly service, wide range of drink types, great atmosphere but cocktails tasted more like juice-unless we ordered something like the Manhattan.
Asked for a mojito - it came out tasting very odd, the waitress tried it and said that it indeed did not taste anything like a mojito so they will remake it. The next one came out tasting WORSE!! The bar manager refused to believe that they were made incorrectly and that the bar staff had been nominated 4 times for a bartending NZ award - yeah nominated 4 times but there is a reason they didnt win.
Loved it, Excellent knowledge and service from the Barmans. Great selection of Whiskeys. Will be back
Nice, serene and relaxing environment. Staff members are friendly and welcoming. Prices are okay. I like the ambience. Prefect place for a drink date in my opinion as its kinda calm and private.
Nice atmosphere and helpful bartenders. Slightly loud. Ill definitely go back though. And the Indian Whiskey that was recommended was good and educational, as requested
Amazing cocktails, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere. A nice, vibrant place to bring friends or loved ones–highly recommend!
Always a pleasure spending a night out here with my mates. Staff are usually quite attentive to their customers despite how busy they get and deliver prompt service. I have never been displeased with this bar, so a 5 star well deserved!
Visited the Jefferson on a Friday night and as soon as we arrived we felt completely unwelcomed by one staff member. We were called “dicks” for sitting down at tables that “might be reserved” (despite no signs saying they were). We were being polite but were left feeling like a burden. Very unpleasant experience and will not be returning.
Amazing , a must visit in Auckland , we found the staff very friendly and knowledgeable for us non whisky experts , 5 stars from us and we will be back 👍
Enjoyed the whisky tasting and loved it, they definitely known a lot about whisky. They managed to show that not only Irish whisky is good. Very recommend to order a small platter to go along with your tasting, helps to clear your taste palette. A good present for whisky lovers.
Bartenders should really be trained to sell the whiskys. Weve been there a couple of times now and the only way to experience a new whisky is to look at the rack and point at one. If you ask the bartenders for any recommendations they cant give any. Ask them for their favorite, they just tell you there are too many good ones. What makes this even worse is how rude the bartenders are.
Exceptional selection of whisk(e)y and knowledgeable, friendly staff. The atmosphere is perfect to relax and unwind over a few drams. Great price points catering for all discretion levels so dont let the $320 per oz offerings stop you from coming to enjoy a $16 per oz.Will continue to come back & introduce more people to the world of uisge beatha.
The best whiskey bar in town. Staff very knowledgeable and happy to help out. Cant recommend enough!
Amazing location. Dark and chill. Incredible selection of whiskey and gin. Super helpful staff.
Great bar, cool staff and great drinks. Recommend the top shelf whiskey and tequila too. We had a great night on an unexpected Monday outing through work but they more than accommodated us.
The place has a really nice atmosphere whether its full or empty. The bar looks absolutely amazing. Plenty of bathrooms and knowledgeable bar staff that can make great recommendations and whip up a fantastic cocktail. Its nicely hidden away though definitely not a secret and its my favourite bar in Auckland. The food options are also really good whether you want a snack or something more substantial.
Very good dessert tasting cocktails!
This place has the potential to be awesome but unfortunately for us fell a bit flat. It has an extensive range and staff that seem to know a thing or two.Unfortunately there is no list of the whiskeys behind the bar and being told by the bartender that "they are the list" is pretty condescending (and really hard for the bartender if he doesnt have the time to spend querying your likes and dislikes). The atmosphere could have been ok but was ruined by the dj playing house/generic club music (I think this is only late on the weekends though). All of the above would be okay if it werent for the high prices charged for a dram that wasnt the style you asked for by a bartender that was too busy to spend the time needed. A proper list of whiskeys would have helped a lot.If youre going to go, go early in the evening not late when its busy.
Love my experience there. Pleasant and friendly mixologist. They have a huge range of bourbon and whiskey on their menu, ranging from Japanese whiskeys to locally distilled whiskeys. Not forgetting Pappy Van Wrinkle being on their list! For those who dont drink alcohol, ask for a mocktail and be surprised.
Probably the best selection of whiskies in Auckland, and a central location. Sophisticated finishing and the wood ceiling I want in my own house. Can get a bit expensive. Staff usually quite friendly and reliable with selections and recommendations.
A unique find. Great atmosphere! Fantastic experience. Amazing range of whiskeys. Over 600 in fact. Who else has a range like this?
Large range of whiskeys and other spirits and make excellent cocktails. Open late with a cool laid back atmosphere, perfect place for after dinner drinks..
THE only proper Whiskey Bar in Auckland. If you like whiskey, and I mean properly like it, dont bother going anywhere else. Just make sure to prepare your credit card in advance with plenty of encouragement.
Great place, excellent selection of drinks and very friendly staff. Went for a company event. Nibbles they served were really nice and fresh. Will be back to check it out again for sure.
The premier whiskey bar in New Zealand, excellent service they helped me to decide exactly the whiskey I would enjoy. I have never seen so many different types of whiskey in one location before. Truly a marvel.
Very cool whiskey bar with a huge range from which to chose. The entire back wall of the bar is made up of countless bottles and is a pretty awesome sight to behold. There were completely out of stock of Jamerson however which I thought was strange. They have a decent enough wine list as well and Asahi on tap.
A decent bar with a good range of spirits. Decor is very nice. Service on the night wasnt particularly friendly or welcoming - but the drinks were good. Pricey, but to be expected.
Really classy, the guys know their stuff. Im not a whiskey drinker but was coached through what I like, excellent for new & experienced whiskey enthusiasts. The bar erea is a beautifully decorated and there is literally a wall of whiskeys
So I really, really wanted to like this place. I’d been here once before ages ago and had a good time. This time I bought along my housemate. The staff are well, pretty average. Neither of us are whiskey connoisseurs however it would have been great to get some recommendations. The staff were disinterested, seemed a bit above us. The first guy we came across was probably the worst and it turns out he is the Manager - Pat. Pretty unlikely we’ll come back. Note to staff - don’t be dicks.
Best place in auckland!! (If you love whisky that is)
Decent cocktails, a little bit pricey but not markedly more than other places. Whiskey way way over priced, even accounting for dollar conversions and any possible import tax. I calculated that for the price they were charging for one particular bottle I (and possibly anothercould fly return to the country of origin and get the bottle myself.
The ambience, the drink selection, the entrance, placement, interiors and lighting and the staff are all just chic and magnificent. What I really appreciate is that music is perfectly varied and is present but never too loud to distract from the conversation. Definitely one of my favorite haunts in Auckland and the place to go for a drink (celebratory or otherwisewith friends and colleagues and unwind. I love the atmosphere, its understated, chic and just so relaxing.
Great ambiance, amazing selection of whiskey and well informed bartenders. Go!
Great whisky bar with knowledgeable staff and an extensive range. If you cant find a whisky to drink here... Then whisky probably isnt your thing haha.Very cool vibe being underground. Does mean theres no mobile reception though.
Im not a whiskey drinker, in fact I dont even like whiskey. But this place is amazing. I particularly enjoyed a whiskey tasting session with a group of other people. The bar staff were very knowledgeable about whiskeys.I would say this bar probably has the largest selection of whiskeys in Auckland (perhaps even New Zealand). If you like whiskey even slightly then you need to visit this place.
I came here before Christmas because my Russian beauty therapist told me it is good. we enjoyed it, but was a busy time of year, so wpuld like to go back when its not full of drink office workers.
Spent a couple of hours here today. Tried 7 of the many available whiskys. I found the staff most helpful and informative with a vast knowledge of the different types of whiskys. Highly recommended for a visit and some very nice whiskys. Great atmosphere and friendly environment.
Nice range of spirits and cocktails.I had a mocktail though.
Great selection of scotch from the Islay. Great cocktails. Friendly and helpful staff. And top that delicious nibbles.
Perhaps its the extreme prices or the loud music on Friday nights, but its not as classy as I had hoped itd be. Its like they want it to be a minor dance club where people forget how theyre paying a third of the bottles cost in one glass. But still gotta hand it to them for their scotch selection.
What a great bar. Located on Fort Lane in Auckland cbd. Great soul tunes, awesome service and a range of spirits that will amaze
3 down - 619 to go - fantastic staff introduced us to the worlds finest whisky - great experience - well be back - highly recommended!
600 whiskies. Nothing like this in Wellington. Walked in and asked for Port Ellen, fail, asked for 3 other obscure single casks from challenging distilleries, fail. That got them warmed up. Gave them list of distilleries that I wanted single casks from, and ended up with 10 bottles lined up to choose from, including brora - trying to impress now. Very good staff, taught me a thing or two I didnt know. Got to try some very good stuff, and could certainly spend a lot longer and a lot more money here. Sell half nips, and reasonable pricing. There are certainly more expensive places in Akl.
nice enough bar but they are massively overpriced for some whiskys.Buyer beware as the bar staff failed to mention that they were pouring a glass of $64 whisky that most other bars sell for $14-16.
Good location,20 minutes to get a drink a bit long
Great selection of whisky but not the greatest experience. Place lacks a little bit of refined polish. Music not quite pitched right, decor a little cold and the staff not overly welcoming. Manager didnt acknowledge us when we sat down, just looked at us then asked one of his staff to serve. Ribs were nice and plenty of whisky to choose from.
