Tours below and above deck of a replica, 19th-century ship that took Irish emigrants to America.
Fantastic experience. Our tour guide really brought the story to life. Well worth a visit to understand our history at an experiential level 🙋♀️💚
Met two great guys that work here , and for me the best tour in the whole of Dublin - wonderful, and very interesting!Would love to do it again one day! :)
This little vessel is overly rich with history and 100% worth the hour of your time that the tour takes!
This restoration encapsulates a true story of dedication and courage, in stark contrast to the deplorable results of the coffin ships.
We absolutely loved this tour and would deffinately recommend ! Our tour guide was friendly, helpful and so knowledgeable. We learned so much and really enjoyed the whole experience.
Wonderfully evocative replica famine ship with an hour long guided tour and a talk about the famine years in Ireland. Below deck life-size figures and old documents give the visitor an insight into what it must have been like to cross to the US on Jeanie, the only famine ship where all passengers survived the crossing.
Worth the stop! We had a great guide. This is a replica ship but it’s so well done they could’ve lied to me about it. It was a great experience.
If your in Dublin just for a day and want to fit some history into your sightseeing and shopping, visiting the Jeanie Johnston is the activity to check out. The boat is incredible and our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and a great storyteller. Learning more about the Great Hunger and what people had to go through to escape is a harrowing tale but an important one to learn.
Great experience, takes about an hour and money and time well spent, great guides and full of history and humour
Our tour guide was enthusiastic in his story. Made a joke here and there but also provided us with clear information about the ship and history of Ireland. The ship itself was fun to be on. We could walk around and see the inside as well.
The tour guide we had Owen was incredible he knew so much about the boat and its past. Even interacted with my 4 year old and kept him entertained. I recommend this tour especially if your interested in the emigration or famine of ireland.
Great tour guide Gearoid very informative he knew his stuff and was great with kids
What a great experience. We all learned a lot. The ship is interesting and the history told is amazing.
Definitely worth it! Great history of famine and exodus from Ireland. Our tour guide Garrosh was great! Informative and funny, he did a great job. An hour you won’t regret.
A beautifully restored piece of history. Our host was very engaging, and knowledgeable. Overall it was an excellent experience showcasing the resiliency and strength of the Irish people. A must do when visiting Ireland!
We visited today (1/8/22 and we was greeted by terry to begin our tour of the ship terry delivered a fabulous tour of the boat very informative and knowledgeable keep us all entertained we even got his first self i with us thanks for a wonderful tour terry
Very interesting and well worth a visit. Tour guide Gearoíd was very informative.
Really enjoyed this tour! As an American now living in Ireland, the notice of advice to Irish Emigrants was something that resonated deeply with me. Did feel the tour was a tiny bit rushed however
Pre-booked our tickets along with the admission to the EPIC, great experience getting to know the histories of Ireland. Just a small suggestion that the guide should probably wears a small microphone 🎤 especially out on the deck in a windy day and open space. Was having a bit of trouble hearing the whole thing at the beginning of the tour when we were out on the deck outside the ship but I could tell the lady we had was really trying her best!
Absolute must-do on your trip to Dublin! Great Tour by our guide Steve! Very interesting infos about Dublin, the famine & the Jeannie Johnston. A 50-minute tour which at no point gets boring. Great experience!!!
Incredibly interesting tour. The tour guide, Gearoid, was amazing, the way he told the history of the boat and Irish famine story was really informative and engaging, this is a must-do attraction when in Dublin!
A replica of a famous boat used by immigrants to leave the country in dire times. The tour is an interesting way to see how those trips were made from the eyes of a passenger, and the conditions they were facing. The tour guide not only is funny and very animated, but he adds a lot of immersion to the experience.I recommend this tour of youre curious as the conditions the immigrants were against, and some history.
Buy a "Dublin Pass"! (solely available online)Might not seem overly appealing, but worth the visit for the historic story(iesabout the ship that has the honourable reputation of NEVER having lost a single life during its voyages bringing immigrants from Ireland to the USA.Besides the ships legacy, the passionate guides will revel you of tales of Irish immigrants in the USA along with the actual common conditions of migriting to USA from Ireland during the famine of the 19th century in Ireland/Europe.Enjoy the story of Margaret Rileys son -Nicholes Johnston Riley- who was borne on the ship and was named after the entire crew, along with him making the American Dream.
Really intéresting visit. The replica of the boat is Nice but most of all the history of famine and emigration told by our guide Gearoid was so important and touching
Just had a wonderful tour by Owen. In my opinion, as a retired history teacher, he would be a wonderful history teacher. So animated and clearly loved his subject!
Excellent. I really loved this 50 minutes tour. So interesting to learn the story of this little ship and its passengers. Our guide Owen was just amazing, such a good story teller. His passion and enthusiasm made the tour even more interesting.Highly recommended!
Owen was fantastic! Highly recommend this tour to get a sense of the conditions aboard the ship and the overall history of the famine. Exactly what we were expecting and more
It was a joy to hear the story of the Jeanie Johnston. Rather than just giving a lot of facts and statistics the tour guide also told us about the stories of individual passengers. The tour wasnt very long and because of the great story telling very suitable for those who have a shorter attention span.
An essential stop to learn about the history of Dublin in the 1840s. A great mix of a guided and self-guided tour filled with stories that bring the Jeanie Johnston to life.
Brilliant, engaging tour of a ship with a fascinating history, brought to life by our guide, Jerry, you should 100% put this on your itinerary while in Dublin. Brilliant for kids and adults and a great way to learn about a huge part of life in Dublin in the 1840’s.
We are really glad we did this tour while in Dublin. Our tour guide, Jerry, was excellent and did a great job personalizing the tour for the international mix of people in our tour. This tour was very interesting and educational, and we highly recommend it.
Fabulous visit. Great guide who told moving stories.
Fantastic tour, the ship is amazing and the guide was very engaging and knowledgable. Making it a wonderful experience.
Our tour guide was Jerry and he was fascinating we so much enjoyed our tour and the time on this replica of the original Jeanne Johnson it is worth the tour it is worth the time one of the best sites to see when visiting Dublin!
I went there on a Sunday morning at 10! It was so nice because we were just few people and we could experience better the Jeanie Johnston! Our tour guide, Jerry, was amazing! I definitely recommend it :)
I went to see an imitation of this famous ship from the 19th century in September 2014 and it was my first time to visit it. Its a fabulous ship. The tour is very good. Id like to visit there again sometime in the future.
Wonderful time on the Jeanie Johnston with Gerry this weekend. Fascinating history of the ship and the famine. Kids loved every second. Highly recommend this tour
I picked the last tour of the day. I ended up with a one on one your with a very knowledgeable docent. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to others. A great empathy exercise to better understand what the people endured in search for a better life.
Finnaly, on my fourth visit of Dublin, I had a chance to visti Jeanie Johnston. And it was well worth! Our guide Geared was great - he told her story with enthusiasm and he answered all our questions. Great visit!
The tour was very passionated and historical. Very important place to wanna understand the history of worst famine history in Western Europe and colonial oppression by the British that csused so many Irish to flee to North America.
J eanie Johnston is a replica of a three masted barque that was originally built in Quebec, Canada, in 1847 by the Scottish-born shipbuilder John Munn. The replica Jeanie Johnston performs a number of functions: an ocean-going sail training vessel at sea and in port converts into a living history museum on 19th century emigration and, in the evenings, is used as a corporate event venue.
I cannot recommend this highly enough. It was well worth the price of admission. The tour guide was fantastic with a real passion for the story he was telling. The experience really helped me to understand the situation of those fleeing the famine and the conditions they experienced. It was easy for me to feel like I was being given a glimpse back into my ancestors lives. I would have appreciated more time to explore and take photographs but I understand the need to keep people together for their own safety. Caution: there are steep stairways and a number of trip hazards. Watch your step and listen to instructions. Enjoy.
This replica of the three masted vessel, Jeanie Johnston. The original was built by John Munn in Quebec mid 19th Century. The ship made numerous crossings to America to help people to escape the Potato Famine. The whole experience on the ship was entertaining, definitely worth a visit.
Very interesting stories about the ship. The tour is 50 minutes but no tours between 1 and 2. The tour gives insight of life on the ship.
AMAZING visit !!!We learn so much visiting this ship. Our guide was great and we really enjoyed it.
We never went on the ship but we took a picture with it! My sister and I went on an awesome kayaking adventure through Citykayaking. It was awesome. Our guide told us a little about the ship. Awesome
Sunny Sunday afternoonHeartwarming story teller guide Ray ( sorry if spelling mistake your name the replica of Jeanie Johnson is precious treasure to Irish heritage....if want to know more history details, you must visit!😊Definitely will back with husband to second tour when the renovation will finish.
I loved visiting this ship. The history was fascinating and the guide did such a great job of telling the story. The characters set up inside each played a part in history. I would highly recommend this tour. Expect to take about an hour.
Really interesting tour, suitable for all ages. Admission fee is very reasonable and you should arrive a few minutes before the tour starts, or youll have to wait another hour. The guide was pleasant, knowledgeable and engaging. Parking options around that area arent great but found a car park nearby which wasnt too dear. Very recommended
The Jeanie Johnston famine ship is really cool and such a great piece of history. This really underscores a lot of Irelands depressive and IMPRESSIVE history. We went while it was raining and the guide was very accommodating and very friendly and informative. This ship is old so watch your head!
