This intimate, brick-lined bar offers pub plates, drinks & a lineup of live jazz music.
Great music, and they expect everyone to be quiet while the acts are on. Also a bunch of other things in the same building, like their own craft brewery, which was pretty cool to see
Boy oh boy I love this place
You would have to go a very long way to find better jazz!
Small intimate place with great lineups. Staff very friendly and helpful. Patrons are typical jazz people very appreciative of the performers.
Amazing as usual. Fast service although thr room was packed. Food was good as usual and sound was impeccable. We got a table way back and it feels uncomfortable watching for a while with your heads turned but it is worth it!
Welcoming and collegial environment to hear great artists! I really respect the mandate of their series and was pleased with the live sound.House drafts are solid too ⚡🎵
The venue and food was perfect. So welcoming and comfortable with great service. The show was wonderful and intimate.
Have had great experiences here. Very aware of COVID too and made it possible to attend during the pandemic when Ontario protocols and vaccine regulations were followed Recommend highly for a great and inexpensive night out.
Great little room…intimate setting…decent food and we saw Danny Michel …doesn’t get much better…
An casual and intimate setting with awkward sight lines. However the soulful sounds that fill the room make up for the awkward sight lines. Definitely worth a visit.
I ordered a ginger ale (bottomless fountain), and a meatloaf with caesar salad as the side. I went here to see a concert, opening act Mikalyn Hay. Even though the show was was 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the server was so overwhelmed by the full crowd, that I had to wait till 9:30 PM to get my bill.
The Jazz room is one of the best jazz clubs in the country. Bar none. Food and drink superb. Musical acts globally phenomenal. Vibe is great. Whats most telling to me is how much the artist like playing there - its a testament to the quality of the whole experience. Cant recommend this enough.
Absolutely discusted to learn of your policy of unvaccinated people. Totally against our Ontario human rights code section 7. Its nobodys business to know if Im vaccinated or not. I will not be supporting local businesses that choose this route.
Shame on you shame on your policy shame on anything that you stand for when it comes to human rights I hope you get a zero business I will inform all my friends vaccinated or unvaccinated you cannot discriminate this is not fair this is not the way we run things in Canada shame on you
As always great music and atmosphere. Nice to see jazz friends again. Not the same as it used to be with social distancing and masks, but so happy to be hearing live music again!
Absolutely fantastic music last night...Bartosz Hadala Group!!....wonderful listening venue with great food!!
TLDR: If you watching A KW comedy show, AVOID this venue!!The venue manager not only do they pack you in like sardines, but they also have seating that is facing the total opposite direction to the stage. Plus the layout means cant leave their chair, and a lot of people didnt go to the bathroom during the full 2 hours comedy show. While drinking alcohol!!... I was one of the people asked to seat in a backwards-facing chair. I proceeded to compile to a waitress who didnt offer any help and then the organisation. I was told they dont do refunds (I ask before the show startedand was told several terrible options for me to sit/stand instead. So my options where to sit in a dangerous/uncomfortable way or leave without getting my money.. In the end I choose dangerous (im sure the local fire marshal would have not liked this), I move my chair into the walkway between the seating so I could have some legroom for my partner and me... Then spent two hours laughing at the great comedy while having the two waitresses try and slip past me carrying trays of food and drink. (Sorry ladies, I was told to block the walkway)... Im been to the other venues and have plenty of space and had a very fun time... Really think they should reduce capacity, or just not show KW comedy here.
Great place for the jazz enthusiast. Wish they would post line-up changes better. Was disappointed when the drummer was not who it was supposed to be.
Too bad that the Come out and Jam event on Saturdays is for Elitists of Jazz and no one else. Nice club but hosts are not very welcoming or inclusive.
Best Jazz venue in South Western Ontario. By a long shot. Great food, great music and craft beer. All at reasonable prices. Who could ask for more?
Theres something so soothing to the soul in the sound of jazz! This is a great intimate venue where you can enjoy the artists enjoyment of their craft. And have impeccable service as well.
Awesome as usual. This year we decided to treat ourselves to annual passes and it has been absolute treat. I highly recommend the Jazz Room to anyone who enjoys amazing live world class jazz and great food.
Wonderful venue with an emphasis on listening to the music. The jazz room consistently has top tier musicians for a very reasonable price (especially if you’re under 30). The food and drink selection is alright and the service has always been great!
Neat place! Great live jazz music, on main floor of the Heuther hotel- would be nice to see the owners put some money into new lighting/paint etc.. The place has serious potential. Service was good, food was delicious. Prices ok
We had supper which was just ok, but the jazz was great. Pretty sure my meal was microwaved - the first bite of vegetables was cold. But the meatloaf was tasty.
Went to the Jazz Room in Waterloo. First time here and we really enjoyed it. Ironically my daughter went to Laurier which is a few blocks away an had no idea this pkace existed. Very well organized and presented. Definitely will go back.
Not the most appealing place I have visited. The layout is somewhat odd and awkward, and while it works, all foot traffic has to walk directly in front of the raised performance platform, which is very distracting. The room is rather cold on both times I have visited, although the lighting has improved. Tables are rather tightly laid out and make it hard to get in and out from. While this is nicely located in the Waterloo downtown core, and local talent can be seen, it could use some heating and better layout planning.
Excellent night. For listening, there is no bad seat in the house.Great venue in the soul of Waterloo. Enjoy a glass, and maybe some food. But certainly soak in the joy of a live performance.
Intimate venue- relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Excellent food. And the best part.. Jazz! It was wonderful listening to Andriy Tykhonov and the very talented musicians who accompanied him.
Nice ambiance. Great Jazz. Good food. Makes for a very entertaining evening. I enjoy the fact that they request minimal talking during performance. I love Jazz and I want to listen. A respectful audience makes a huge difference to listening pleasure.
Ive only gone for the live music but the staff at the Huether/jazz room are always on the ball and never seem to disappoint. Also fantastic live jazz performances
Great experience. Live Jazz concert with tasty food - definitely somewhere Id suggest trying out.
Love this place. The acoustics arent bad, and the food and local beer is great. Consistently books great jazz acts. Highly recommend.
Great to see a jazz venue in town. I went to the monthly jam and enjoyed a variety of performances from local talent. It is great to see the has community developing.
Been twice for small live music performances. Get there early if you want good seats. Same good craft beer and drink selection as the rest of the heuther. Limited food menu. Service was excellent.
Great venue to see music. Focus on the artists, with prominent "no talking during performance" signage. Menu is limited, but the food is good. Service is "University students with limited experience" level, but that is far outshined by the very high quality as a place to experience live music.
One of the oldest hotels in downtown Waterloo. The Adley Family has lovely cared for and refurbished this old beauty for years. Use to hang out here during my University day, now 30 yrs later, still enjoying this place!!!! There are like 6-7 unique multiple areas to hang out... Jazz, coffee house, pool & pineball game area, fine dining, and a rooftop patio in summertime. We enjoyed a great jazz group last nite, (Harley Card, jazz acoustic guitar), went in early to have dinner which was quite good, reasonable and lots of healthy choices plus standard pub fair!! Alicja, our waitress was simply endearing, attentive and provided good service all night! Great Fun Night 👍🏻 !!!!! Jazz is every Friday & Saturday, usually starts about 8pm
The music is incredible - absolutely world class. Food and drink can be hit or miss, unfortunately, but this is not under the purview of those running the events, but rather the Huether Hotel. Ive had food poisoning once and flat beer once.
Excellent environment for real jazz lovers. Perfect for kick starting your weekend on Fridays or getting into the weekend groove on Saturday. Best place to sit and enjoy Jazz music in Waterloo region.
As one of the few places in KW to enjoy Jazz, TJR has a fantastic, cozy ambience, and add to that the Lion Brewery beer and the Huethers menu and you are set!
Good music, good service, on a rare Wednesday night show. The talent compares to Blues Alley in the DC but not the food. The food is on the level of Scullers in Cambridge MA. Stage view and seating is the best of the three. (My only comparison points)
Great spot if you love Jazz. There is a cheaper ticket price for people under 30 (Im going to enjoy that while I can ;)). This is a listening bar though so dont expect to come with your friends and talk all night- talking is reserved for in between sets.
The Jazz Room is a music lovers paradise, operating like a concert hall with food and beer/wine. Every seat has a short-distance good view of the stage. Every night has a different top notch jazz band usually with local talent on Friday nights and international talent on Saturday nights. And the sound system is the best I have heard in any venue.
The Jazz Room has been a spectacular addition and a shining jewel in the cultural life of the Waterloo Region. I used to drive into Toronto regularly to take in quality jazz shows, but now they are happening every weekend right here in my back yard at the Jazz Room in the Huether Hotel. And not just any jazz, but high quality jazz from acts from Toronto, New York and Europe with some actual legends sprinkled into the mix. Good food and excellent service round off the package. Very, very grateful!
This place is great! Can get very lively depending on the band playing. Very energetic atmosphere with good beer and food. If you like jazz music, this is definitely worth checking out.
Live music, good beer, lovely food, lively atmosphere. What more could you want?
My brother in law recently rented The Jazz Room to host his own event with bands hed booked. We had a terrific evening. It is true that the layout isnt ideal as some of the tables are behind the stage without much of a view. However, the venue has a really, really cool vibe. The whole building is full of character. The waitresses were good, food was decent (I just had wings). And most importantly the sound was great. From what I heard from the musicians, the Jazz Room sound operator, Jeremy was absolutely first rate to work with, a great, friendly dude who really knew his stuff.Great place.
Pretty much your only place for Jazz in Waterloo. They always have something going on, on weekends and a decent ticket price to get in.You can get food and drinks along with your music as well. The layout of the venue is fairly odd, but isnt too bad to ruin the experience. The sound quality is great though.
I saw Ted Gibbons play here a few months ago and it was a great show in a very cool venue.I appreciated the audience for really listening to the musicians as well. The only disappointment came with the food I ordered.
Went to hear the Ted Gibbons Quartet. Great time.I also had dinner, and it was a great meal. Lots of variety, and tasted great.Of course, one must have a drink while at a Jazz club, so had a craft beer that was dark. It had a great texture and taste. Will definitely go back.
