Casual eatery known for its jambalaya & other homestyle Cajun food such as gumbo & crawfish.
Never have the entire menu available. Please adjust your online menu to have just jambalaya, gumbo and sides only. No specials, no pastalaya everyday. At 12:30 on a Friday and no lunch special which is Shrimp Fettuccine, shocked the place was empty. The food was tasty last time I ate jambalaya and gumbo.
Out of many menu items just after 1 pm. Jambalaya was dry not too tasty
Great hospitable restaurant with excellent south louisiana dishes. Great place to stop for a quick lunch while downtown
This was my first time visiting this location. I enjoyed my visit here. The customer service was great and the food was good. Ill definitely be doing back, especially since its within walking distance of my job 🤗
The guys working here are awesome! So helpful. Great little shop off the beaten path.
Quality food, very reasonably priced and the staff were fantastic. Ample quantity, wil return for the gumbo and bread pudding.
This place was absolutely amazing. The two gentlemen working there when we stopped by were the most hospitable and friendly people ever. The food was very well priced and incredible delicious. I will stop here any time I find myself in Baton Rouge.
Bad experience. Ordered large Gumbo. Had NO Sausage, Not a single piece.Wanted a couple extra crackers. Was charged $3 for extra crackers......Gumbo was Cold and just not that great. I work a few blocks down the street and would rather drive to Acadian for a Better Experience.Years ago this use to be the Spot for Jambalaya. But not anymore...
Food wasnt anything special. Tasted like it was old and/or reheated. Chicken was dry. They didnt have all the sides available and it wasnt even busy. Theres much better options for jambalaya and cajun food around town.
Delicious and very well priced!
Thank you Ms Kathy and her staff@Acadian and Downtown Baton Rouge location...I appreciate all that you done to ensure that CATS(Capital Area Transit Systemhad a awesome experience for their appreciation luncheon. I am forever thankful that you came through for this event...The food was awesome and your service is top notch.....I wish many blessing on your business Ms Kathy and keep up the great work...
the jambalaya shoppe is okay but sometimes you get more rice than meat gumbo is not that great
Nice little shop. The Cajun pasta was great. The jambalaya was a little dry for my liking and the rolls were just store bought not cooked. The price was a little high for plastic plates and a small helping. A cool place if youve never been. Staff and owner was nice.
The owners overbearing presence ruins the experience.
Decided I wanted some gumbo today so I went to the jambalaya shop downtown . I got a large gumbo and some crawfish pies . First of all, the way the manager of the store was talking to the lady that works there was very unprofessional. He talked down on her like he was smarter or better than her . Made me very uncomfortable and she was sweet lady . Anyways I got my gumbo and when I got home which is no more than 6 mins away . I opened the gumbo it was soooo greasy ! Like nothing but oil at the top so I poured the oil out and then noticed the whole bowl was nothing but big chucks of chicken , pieces of chicken fat , maybe one sausage with a tiny bit of gravy . This might as well been chicken and gravy . The rice was ice cold and very gummy . The crawfish pies were the only good thing about the meal. I went to the one on Siegen lane before and they had the best gumbo and everything was so good . This place needs some help. I would ask for a refund but they close so early .
The white beans were so salty and hot i could not eat them and I love white beans. I had pastayala and it was also too salty. First time and last time. Sorry.
I honestly dont see how this place gets such good reviews. The Jambalaya is mediocre at best. Its one of the few places walking distance from my work. About once a year I go to remind myself why i dont go. Large gumbo barely had chicken in it. The gumbo is so salty i threw half of it away. Had this not been a to go order i would have asked for a refund.
We came to Louisiana to visit family for Thanksgiving. After a couple of days of leftovers, we wanted something different. My nephew bought us jambalaya and white beans. Omg we devoured the meal and wanted more next day. If we could take it on plane back to Michigan we would. If you ever start shipping we’re all in.
It was good. Good portions. Can be real busy around lunchtime.
One of the better places to eat down town
Delicious jambalaya and local specialties:Red bean and rice and gumbo
Good food sometimes the beans are not cooked right!
Always a great lunch spot downtown.
Good food and daily lunch specials also on waiter
Great home cooked food every time!
Thought it would be more Mom and Pop place
This food was slap yo momma, good. Great service and inexpensive. Cant beat it.
Dont go with any expectations and you will like it...
Great chicken gumbo. Well worth a visit.
Always great food and service. Gumbo and pastalaya is awesome.
The ric3 and offerings are good. I wish there was a bigger serving of gumbo beyond 16 oz. The gumbo needs to be hotter. I think the warmers dont do it justice. I wish there was some file I could take togo when I take the gumbo out the door. It is pretty pricey compared to the market down the street but the quality is better.
So good!! Great, fast, friendly service. It was a delicious stop for lunch as we were headed home, leaving louisiana.
Cute, friendly, big portions and yummy. Will be going again for sure!!!
Jam with chicken and side of gumbo, was ok. Saw a couple who came from Oklahoma who were so disappointed to learn they were out of Jam, so must be really popular joint.
Gumbo is great. Nothing bad here
If I could eat here every day, I would! The food is fantastic and the service is great! I get the gumbo with jambalaya as the rice. My husband gets the same. My toddler gets a little bowl of jambalaya and can I tell you, he eats every single bite. That hardly ever happens in a restaurant with him.Seating is limited at lunch time, so get there early. But the wait is worth it!
Fish fried to order, great place for a quick bite.
"Bowl, roll, and side of beans!" This is my favorite lunch spot downtown. The staff is always friendly, food is tasty, hefty portions, and nicely priced. Dont hesitate to stop in :)
The food and service were great. The roux for the gumbo was spot on. My husband said the potato salad was just like his grandma used to make- a real treat - delicious!! Several of our guests tried the shrimp jambalaya and raved about it. It’s located close to the capitol building as well- great part of our visit to Baton Rouge.
Very good tasting food and generous portions.
Work at Firestone so I go here all the time for my lunch, always a great experience, extremely friendly and ALWAYS amazing food.
Very friendly people! Great service. My boyfriend had two servings of the gumbo. The catfish was light and flaky with the perfect fried golden crust. Get there early as they can run out.
The shrimp fettuccine is awesome! Should be served everyday.
Love the gumbo and the pastalaya.
The crawfish etouffee over jamabalaya was amazing the service was quick very enjoyable experience.
The Good:. Fast, friendly service. If youre hungry, you will leave FULL.The bad: The food was... funky.
Not quite sure what horrible places in New Orleans Chris Broussard patronizes for that "thick tomato stew crap out of New Orleans," but I can assure you there are plenty of NOLA institutions that make gumbo that destroys "The Jambalaya Shoppes." Too many to list.
The portions are huge and a lunch plate will definitely last you to dinner or the next days lunch.
I go here all the time - consistently good food and fast, friendly service. The daily specials are always good.
Have the gumbo - delicious south Louisiana Cajun gumbo (not that thick tomato stew crap out of New Orleans). Love this place!
