Classic Indian dishes served in 3 candlelit underground rooms with whitewashed, vaulted ceilings.
This spot is magnificent! Such countless Indian starters and the food is so astounding! The feeling is astounding. Generally, an incredible feasting experience. Likewise, they have a chocolate well spring! What else might you at any point require
Had an amazing experience dining in with colleagues. I ordered chicken tikka biryani while they ordered veg biryani and daal tarka. The taste was decent as well as the quantity. 5/5 for service. This is the first time I was served "warmed" wet tissue afterwards. Overall, it was a good experience.
Their residence made chai tea turned into to I speak approximately this location all the time. It turned into remarkable to peer their catering group paintings together. You should inform everybody cherished what they did and created such an remarkable paintings environment. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I went in with zero expectations and left with immense joy! One of the best Indian foods I have tasted. The tandoori platter was out of this world, every bite was full of flavour and the biriyani was the star of the show. Every morsel of rice was packed with a punch of flavour and it hit every right note you’d expect. It has been couple of days since I visited but the taste still lingers in my mouth.
This is one of the good restaurant I like to have good. I have been here many times for lunch or dinner and in fact I liked the food always. The lunch menu has the “set menu” which is economical for London. The staff is friendly and they easily recognise and remember our choice of food as well. It’s a calm place as it’s in underground. Always well maintained. The only thing I don’t like is the the service charge they by default add it which can be asked to the customer as whether they can add it. However as I like the food never mind that much.
Great location and nice ambiance. But food was very bland and no spice at all. We had to ask for more chillie to mix in and they took ages to come. This was a very plain experience - better off going to brigadiers down the road for something more flavourful.
It is our last night in London and we wanted something special, a short bus trip from our hotel and we were greeted by the lovely front of house lady, she took us down to our table. Once we got down the stairs we were hit by the most amazing aromas. Pompadoms for the table with nice chutneys and pickles i recommend the mixed starter for two and our mains where butter chicken with garlic nan and the mixed biriyani we only have one pic because the food and service was so good i completely forgot to take pics. Amazing treat will come again when we are in LondonThanks for the great evening
The sizzlers could have been tastier and spicier. I felt it was bland and sweet at times. The chicken biryani was on point
Totally astounding experience. Staff was magnificent and the food was as well. We went for the tasting menu which costs £75 for every which was sensible given the size of the bits and the nature of the food. I cant hold on to visit once more.
After leaving the review below, the restaurant replied to me to say that they were "glad we met your expectations fully"! This is not at all true and shows the restaurant hardly takes the time to read their reviews! Certain dishes were okay but not all of them and I still feel it is wrong to automatically add service onto a restaurant bill. On a £300 bill, this is close to a £40 tip!! I expect exceptional service for this kind of tip and did not receive it here. The food was okay but the lamb tikka was dry and was left on the platter by everyone in the group (group of seven)! The restaurant had a fantastic atmosphere, though, which was well decorated and comfortable. Finally, though, they add a 12.5% supplement to the bill for service which is something I never agree with. I prefer to tip according to the service I receive and not be told how much to tip by the restaurant!
Food is well prepared and all with fresh ingredients, and there are lots of options in the menu. Its a dark basement - underground tunnel space, with LED candle light that you can barely read the menu. Depending how far in the "tunnels" you sit. Service is not very friendly. However, they didnt take long to bring the food. There was one waiter who was so helpful, friendly and kind that made us feel much more comfortable when were about to leave. I am not sure if I would come back though.
Excellent Indian restaurant. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Just remember to make a reservation in advance. Their appetizers and main course options were great, however the portions were small, but its better to share and try other dishes. Make sure you get the green chicken appetizer.
Well-made, well-presented food. The staff and the quality of the food and the vibe made this meal perfect. you cant complain about anything We had the five course set menu and it was more than enough. Highly recommended.
Best curry Ive had in London so far. The place may not look the best, but what is important, the food is really tasty, everything you would expect from an authentic Indian cuisine rich in flavor, be prepared and bring your wine.
It is essential for us to have dinner there every time we are in London. Our 5th visit was as great as the other 4. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The food is out of this world. Highly recommended.
Excellent food and service. Tasty dishes with really nice presentation. We ordered several small plates and they were all really tasty with well balanced spices and flavors. They also tried some great non-alcoholic cocktails.
The food here is amazing, every dish is perfection. The cocktails are also excellent, while the whole place feels very relaxed and comfortable while still maintaining the feeling that you are somewhere special. Will definitely be back to explore the menu further.
I just had one of the best Indian meals in a long time. Very good selection including classic dishes, beautifully cooked and very well presented by helpful staff. Cant fault the setup, service, quality or price.
Amazing food. Very friendly staff! We ordered 4,5 different dishes but everything was delicious. All their staff was attentive and very helpful. We will definitely come back again!
By far the best Indian food Ive ever had. This restaurant cannot be rated highly enough. The staff is absolutely amazing and very welcoming. Keep up the good work.
A very cool space and worth a visit just for the atmosphere. The basement was warm and cozy. The food was below average. A lot of raw garlic flavours which were harsh and overpowering. Our biryani tasted nice but Ive had many better. Mango lassi was very good.
Very good food. The waiter recommended some dishes, and they were very good. I will recommend to book a table because it will be full. Because it was many persons there, the waiters was very stressed. However, the food and the service was quick. The restaurant is in a bunker, that is cool, but be aware that it isn’t mobile service. They call them selves the best in the city, we have tried two other Indian restaurants and this was the best! It was also a extra bonus that we got free papadam!Ps: you get some chocolate after the dinner, but if you want some extra, then you should complement the food😉
Me and my wife went to this place expecting good Indian food but were thoroughly disappointed. If you know anything about Indian food don’t go here, because the dishes do not represent Indian cuisine in taste. We got a chicken appetizer which was as expected, onion bajji was cold in the middle. Our server was kind enough to take it back..We ordered chicken koorma which neither looked nor tasted like a koorma dish. The gentleman who collected our dishes at the end asked if there was something wrong. I politely told him that it neither looked nor tasted like a koorma. This is something to take seriously, When my wife of 4 years who is an American, tells me this doesn’t taste like Indian food. I disagree with the gentleman fromDhaka who tried his best to defend it was a “toned down” version of India food for western palates. I strongly feel Brits deserve better than this.. they can serve whatever they please but please do not call it “The India” as it doesn’t not taste like Indian food. I attached a picture of koorma dish to it and leave it to you guys to decide if it looked like koorma, as it sure as hell didn’t taste like koorma.
The food and atmosphere of this place was absolutely amazing. The presentation of the plates was very exciting as you can see that a lot of effort has gone into the food. Absolutely loved their mouth-watering lamb biryani
Exploited the afternoon "Party time" and got a free beverage and 20% of our mains. The food was great and we likely arranged significantly more than we wanted. The staff were overall quite mindful too. Loose and inviting.
The price is competitive but the quality not so much. We ordered a dish of vegetable andwe received a sort of “old” dish, not so freshly cooked.. we ask to a first waiter and he refused to change the dish, but the second one agreed and bring us a fresh one with free rice. The rest of the food was good, But not so spiced.
The India is not a Indian restaurant but more a Bangladeshi restaurant (expected in London)the hostess and manager were very helpful and accommodating, but our waiter (noorwas abrupt, and rude , he took pride in serving his colonial masters but had a distaste for his own kind (sad), that said the food was delicious, I wanted something spicy and the Bombay blast hit the spot. Five star for food !
There’s one flight of stairs that takes you down into the bunkers which have been converted into cosy dining alcoves. We went for the set menu, and it was well worth the price. The appetizers are meat-based, and makes sense as they are the heaviest part of the meal, and each course arriving there after gets lighter and lighter. Be careful when standing up and stepping into the spaces between the tables, the waiters move quickly and efficiently as the place is often very busy. bathrooms are narrow, and well perfumed.
I have been to The India Best of the City Indian Restaurant many times, bringing different friends. We have always loved our knowledge. It has been recommended to me by a member of an Indian family and I can confirm that the food is truly authentic to that of India. I felt like I was back home. I would definitely recommend it. Many thanks to the dear staff working there. Well be back soon:)
Food was excellent, cocktails as good as 5 star hotels on park lane. The service was friendly. We are very happy to have this pocket of Indian magic close to where we live. we dont go often enough.••
Amazing food and atmosphere. I really recommend coming here. We had a great time and cant wait to come back and try more dishes...!!••
Food was beautiful. Service was amazing. Manager took the time to chat to us and brilliant. Warm and friendly, great spot for a chilled meal with cool relaxing vibe. Will definitely be back the next time we’re in London.
Love this restaurant. Great food, friendly helpful staff, great atmosphere. Good idea to book, this place is no secret. 2 mins walk from Bank and Cannon St stations. As locals we can say confidently its the best in the City at what they do.
Tonight was our first time finding this Gem in London and we are so glad we did! This delicious Indian Restaurant is one of London’s best kept secrets! Stunning food, cosy decor and Elite customer service. Everyone is so friendly and took care of every request to the highest standard. We can not wait to return :)
Been several times, the food is good, the service too. I keep coming back because its reliable, fairly easy to get a table and the prices arent mental. A good solid Indian within walking distance of the office. Better than the Raj 1,2 or 3 for example.
We had a fabulous time here on 13 August. We were a party of 9 and the food and the service was excellent throughout. Our main waiter - in the photo - was so friendly and entertaining and when we had a small personal problem as we were leaving he was so kind and quick to help us. It’s a brilliant place. We had a wide range of food and it was all lovely and in a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
From the outside it looked a bit scary but I’m so glad we went in anyway! The stuff was friendly and the atmosphere was very warm and cozy. There were some people in there but it wasn’t overly full. The price was appropriate but I would have expected it to be higher. Over all a great experience!!
An absolutely lovely place to have some delicious Indian food! We had incredible service from Noor, who was always quick to check in on us. Our water was always quickly refilled, we were offered a hot towel after the meal, and received chocolates with our bill. The samosas, curry, and dessert were all flavorful and we were very pleasantly surprised to finally have spicy curry after a few days of very mild food in London. The spot looks small from the outside, but is huge inside and has a great ambience. Highly recommend The India to locals and visitors alike looking for a lovely place to enjoy dinner.
Amazing. The ambience here was great. Service was fast and all the waiters were very friendly. Deserves more than 5 stars
The ambiance is awesome!! Most of the Indian food tastes good as compared to other outlets. The portion size is too small for the non-veg starters. Some of the dishes are not authentic meaning it’s not at all cooked the way it should have been and that makes it a completely different dish.
Worst restaurant. This is just spoiling the name of Indian Cuisine. No where near to the authentic Indian taste. The Paneer ( cottage cheesewe ordered was like rubber. Pathetic quality and high price. I believe the chef has never been to India or have tasted the proper food. The ambience was bad. The garlic naan we ordered seems to be made from frozen Naan we get from Costco or Tesco.I would suggest people to avoid this place for Indian food. Food really Sucks!!! Waste of money. And the worst part is they include tip of 12% by themselves. Never seen a restaurant adding tips itself.Just Avoid this place!!
We discovered this lovely joint, The food is so fresh and good quality ended up visiting this place 2 times in 3 days. Excellent customer service and a nice location as well. The prices are very good for the generous portion sizes.
Amazing!! Visited whilst in town. Very nice setting, with a super friendly host. Waiters great also. The food was superb and the portion sizes big. Thank you
No, not by far the best of the city. The ambiance was good but staff were not bad but the food was just a huge let down. Too much sugar in most of the stuff and the Tandoori kebabs were all far too dry. The prawns were the only meal that was good. No would not go back as it was a big disappointment.
I am not kidding when I say this was the best Indian food Ive ever had. They opened around 5pm and when we got there early to the restaurant, there was already a line waiting outside (which is a good sign that the food will be delicious!I got the Tikki Masala and Peshwari Naan, which were both fantastic! The staff was super nice and gave us extra chocolates when we left. Overall an amazing experience with even more amazing food. My photos here arent super great because I DUG IN to the great food before remembering to take a picture.
The ambience was good, the restaurant busy increased the expectation of good food. Overall it was an average experience. I being vegetarian chose vegetarian dishes and I have definitely eaten better Indian food. The papadum and the chutneys that were served for me were ok. The poppadoms size could have been bigger for the price. The nan was good, the Dal and jalfrezi from a quantity perspective less for the price that I paid. Overall an ok experience. The restaurant is quite close to canon street tube station. The toilets were not very clean and was stinking.
Food, service and location were good. Note, the 12.5% service charge DOESNT go to the staff, it goes straight to the owner! Unfortunately, its another scam by some unscrupulous restaurant owners to skim a bit more money from the punters. Advise that you decline to pay the "optional" service charge and leave a tip in cash. The place looses a couple of stars due to this dishonest practice. Restaurant itself was great!
Hands down the friendliest and coziest Indian dining in the City that I have been to. In fact the staff were so generous, after recognizing me for a second time in as many days, that they gave me a complementary beverage while waiting for my takeaway at the bar. Thats memorable! I usually dine in, but was in a rush on a work trip, and the takeaway hit the mark.
Pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. I had the mixed grill mirchi (chef’s specialwith pilao rice. The underground cavern atmosphere and discreet service just add to the mystery.UPDATE: came back after a month. I don’t quite like my chicken tikka masala (too sweet). And the waiter - while friendly - said something that’s borderline racist. Downgrading to 3 stars.UPDATE: popped in before concert at RFH. Service was superb - attentive and quick - but was slightly let down by the food. I stupidly ordered chicken tikka masala (it’s ok but too sweet for my likingbut the lamb jalfrezy was good. Starters were great, especially the onion bhaji. Sag aloo, pilau rice and plain naan were ok.
Wow what an incredible place! Firstly the asthetic is amazing and homely, you just feel like you have escaped London. Secondly all of the Food is brilliant, hands down the best Lamb I have ever tasted and so authentic! It also came very fresh, and the service from all of the friendly staff, was exceptional!!!To put the cherry on the cake the prices are so affordable and portions are huge - will be visiting again the next time I come, or perhaps even before I go home - it was so great!
