The House of Houdini - Museum in Budapest, Hungary
I really enjoyed this museum. It started with a very interesting magic show with some audience participation. It was very enjoyable. Then there was a guided tour around the museum with lots of interesting facts about the life of Houdini. Definitely worth a visit!
Its amazing to see The House of Houdini and to learn about his life. Its Magic show about 20-25 min to see inside
It was wonderful and I cant recommend it enough! Although its a small museum of 4 rooms, you get the full experience and insight of the life of the great magician. I cannot stress enough how warm and entertaining were Alexander with magician show and Barbara the guide of the tour, full marks to both of them :)
Had the best time!! Learned a lot about Houdini even though I thought I knew quite a bit already. The tour guide was fun and informative and answered questions. The magic show was wonderful. Its cash only unless you buy online in advance. Would highly recommend!!
Attraction definetly worth watching. It takes around an hour and is fully guided, you get a magic show and a guided tour.Learnt some interesting facts and the magician although he had some cheesy jokes (purposelywas very entertaining.
Very interesting exhibit! And the show was really great, a lot of fun! Highly recommend!
Small yet really neat. The magic show at the end was modest but in a positive way. The guy had great sliding hands with his card and rope tricks. Its a quick fun tour, well done.
Its okay for small kids. There is some really bad show, with some pretty lame magic tricks (something like magicians at birthday parties for preschoolers), but I think for everyone above 12yrs old it will be pretty boring. Although stuff is really nice, working with lot of patience and enthusiasm , especially the girl guide who guided us through the (wholeTWO rooms of museum….P.S if you have even a small sign of claustrophobia, its not recommended due to rooms are pretty small and not meant for group of 15 people
If you’re in Budapest and don’t know what to do, why not lock yourself into the Houdini Museum for a tour? Its a small museum, but it is packed with more things to look at than rabbits in a magician’s hat. Judit, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about everything on tour and told us in perfect English that Harry Houdini was a short little man—only 160 cm! Wow! Size really doesn’t matter! What magic museum could be complete without a few card tricks? The magic show at the end really elevates the it from a tour to an experience! And hey- the magician was quite enchanting too! 😁All in all, this was a great experience! Secret doors, severed hands, and card tricks! Who could ask for more?
Although the museum itself contains just a couple of (tightly packedrooms worth of material from Houdinis life and times, the guide brought it all to life with his obvious enthusiasm. A magic show as part of the entry price was a very enjoyable bonus. If you have any interest in magic or escapology, this is an absolute "must see" when in Budapest.
It was fun 🙂👍There are 2 kind of tickets1. Ticket to magic show with cards and ropes and balls and that sort of things2. In addition to show, you will have a tour of Houdinis life, his successes and downfalls and his miysterious death.
Little meusem for hudini, not a fan of magic tricks but at the end of the tour there is a magic show very entertaining!
I loved it! All the staff are incredible and do their job with passion. A highly recommended place, especially if you are a lover of magic. Thanks to the whole team for the experience!
Had an absolutely amazing tour and magic show here recently. We arrived just as they opened so there wasnt anyone else there yet. Id highly recommend doing this as the museum space is a little small so with a crowd youd struggle to see the fantastic pieces on display. The hosts were so knowledgeable and spoke really good English. It was so worth the money! I learned so much and was fascinated the whole time
A bit small but still enough to show many things in this area. Guided tour and an illusion show is included. Worthed.
Really interesting to learn about Houdinis history with photos and props. Included a quaint magic show and a tour.
What an outstanding surprise. We were sitting in a cafe and saw this museum. Of course we had to go check it out. So worth the time and money. Magic show and tour. I was interested in Houdini’s esoteric beliefs. Asked the tour guide if he was friends or a student of Madam Blavatsky. She didn’t know but want to come back and learn more. Also, love that there is NO gift shop! Says a lot about this place. Absolute class.
First off the bat, I am a massive massive magic geek. Despite this I went to Budapest completely forgetting that Houdini was from there but when I saw this on my recommendations to do, everything else took a back seat. In fact, I was so excited I forgot to take any picturesNow, this isnt a very big museum (5 rooms, I thinkbut it was only ~6€ and as part of that you get a magic show, a guided tour through Houdinis life, and a chance to view some of the only remaining Houdini artifacts in the world. If you have kids or youre in to magic then this is a must when in Budapest (and if magic is only "meh" to you then if youve made of to the top of Castlehill and youre walking buy you may as well pop in)
The magic show was very nice. The tour was interesting to the adults but too long for the kids
THE FAMOUS MAGICIAN HARRY HOUDINIYou learn everything about his life and some of his special tricksYou will also see his tools, machines, clothes and other personal stuffAt the end you have the opportunity to enjoy a magic show
Horrible. Not at all worth going. Waste of time. You can watch it in some fest for free. Dont go here.
Interesting little museum, but dont expect to just walk in. Best way about it is to reserve the tickets for the next show (45min eachand enjoy an ice-cream nearby while you wait. The magician at the end was rather mediocre.
It was a very nice experience, if you are near Buda Castle and you like magic this is the perfect place for you. You can visit the museum of Houdini and see also a good magic show.
Oh I went in and the gentleman at the front of the desk very rude for no apparent reason. He asked if I had a reservation and I did not. He told me I can get in on a tour/show that starts in five minutes. I’ve Never been here before so I was asking if there was an option to not have a tour (just askingas I don’t really care for them usually at museums, etc. He said that I should book something online and come back another time… I responded with, “didn’t you just say a tour starts in five minutes and I could do that?”. He said, no, it’s a small place and I should book something. I can only assume he was insulted by my question although I wouldn’t consider my question unusual. - The long walk I’ll pill on a hot day to get to this place so at least I could do to repay his hospitality please give it a bad Google review and it even worse video review it on my blog and YouTube travel channel when I return home.
A very magical experience 🎩Nice tour with a simple but cool magic show at the end! Definitely worth a visit even if youre not a huge magic fan!
The tour takes around 20 minutes with a 20 minutes magic show afterwards. The guide was very fluent english speaker. The information was clear and easy to understand. The magic show was very entertaining.
Not worth it I expected something more interesting , there was only 2 rooms they were small we saw some youtube easy tricks and some of them failed 😞 any way i was disappointed
Very passionate team who really knows their stuff. We are not so much into magic but had a super good time, they managed to excite us very much.
Its a small (two roombut interesting collection of items relating to his life; books, photos, some of his props eg handcuffs etc. There is also a little magic show that pads out the visit. Having been to many museums now around Budapest, I would say at 3150 HUF cost, its a bit expensive for what it is, and unlike other places Ive been to, doesnt offer any discount for pensioners. For the owner whos collected these items, its a nice little money earner. Also its cash only, not credit card if you arrive without a pre-booking.The lady conducting the tour was very interesting in detailing how Houdini made many enemies by exposing charlatans and publically humiliating them. His death is still surrounded my mystery and controversy.I enjoyed the visit, dont get me wrong, but not sure its worth the cost.
Very nice magic show and a guided tour takes around 45 minutes. The technical director of the Houdini mini series is involved with the museum so they have a lot of very exclusive items. They even have a signature of Harry Houdini under his birthname Erich Weiss which is incredibly rare.
It is a small place and you have to schedule your visit since it is guided. I really enjoyed the tour and the staff were very friendly and paced the tour very well so everyone could enjoy the rare artifacts in the collection. At the end you sit in a lovely room for your own private magic show.
Great little addition to the trip. Magician was talented and the museum was fascinating. Little bit of constructive criticism: I wish the tricks were a little more exciting. These are old tricks that are found in most childrens magic sets with the exception of a few tricks. I also wanted to purchase some bits at the end but was told I had to wait for the next set of people to be orientated. I think they should sort that out so its a smoother process.
If you are interested in Magic 🪄 go there !! Its a nice experience after all
Little Museum at the famous Fisherman‘s Bastion. Basically with two Rooms with Artifacts and Infos about Houdini introduced by Employees in a guided Tour and a short magic show from a young Magician.
Nice personal tour and a funny magic show at the end.
The magic show was pretty basic, but very cool and we had a laugh. The guided tour was much shorter than what we had expected but done well.
Underwhelming to say the least."Hey guys, was it good?" two British tourists asked us, when we left. We exchanged looks. A 3 second moment of silence before our answer was probably enough as a reply, before we actually said "naaah"...At the same time, its great example of creating a semi-entertaining experience out of nearly nothing, marketers can learn a lot from this. There is a very small exhibition, the magnitude and size of which is made to appear bigger with the obligatory guided tour. The other half of the visit is a magic show, which is entertaining enough for kids below 14, but for adults its a type of entertainment titles "I honestly didnt know what to do with myself this weekend, please dont judge me".So, please dont judge me.
The museum itself is quite small, but it has interesting features. It is lovely to attend the magic show, you can feel like a little child as the magician is really able to blow your mind with his tricks. I would wish to have a little more spare time during the guide tour to look more carefully at the presented items.
Found the place on our way around Castle. Didnt see it before in any guide which is a pity as it is a must see if youre visiting Budapest. Museum itself is tiny but guide is very professional and in those few minutes will explain Houdinis life so good that will actually make you to read more about him.The other part is show which made our day. Perfectly played with a lot of humour and all of the tricks which I did never see before. Loved the way host got the audience involved in so friendly and funny manner. All of the visit is about an hour and only €9 cost. Loved it!
I felt like a kid again. A 40 minutes guided tour and a magicians performance. Houdinni was born in Budapest but left at 4 for America. They have many original items of him.Remember the movie about him played by Tony Curtis? Another Hungarian 😂😂
Really nice experience. The girl who gave us the tour was so sweet and the tour was interesting,we found out about Houdinis life and the magic show was pretty cool. Recommended for familyes with children
I visited there yesturday with my dad and uncle. The museam tutor was really nice and she was answering anything you want to know. Her lecture was really interesthing and the way she tell you the story of Hudinis life really adds to the vibe. After it was over we went the the magic show and the magician was really Interactive with the crowd and was also really funny as well. After the show was over we bought one of the card tricks that was preformed in the show and they helped us to do the trick and we left there with a really good vibe. I recommend everyone to go there at any age and you will also have a good time!
Great place If you enjoy magic. In the entrace you are welcomed very nice, you pay for a ticket 🎫 and than you wait for next show. Guy named Alex is very good and charming magician 🎩 The show is well done and the exhibits are quite fascinating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
House of Houdini is a small but very interesting museum. The guides (who are also magiciansare very knowledgable and friendly. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the fun magic show at the end!
Didnt plan on seeing this show but went recently. It happens every 30-40 mins and is open till around 7pm. The ticket cost 6-7 Euros per adult. It contains 20 mins guided tour and history of Houdini and 20 mins magic show. Tbh honest it wasnt exactly what i was expecting but we surely enjoyed it none the less! It is fascinating to know about the life of Houdini and few tricks in the magic show were really good.
Visited the museum at 5 pm.Need to say Im a little disappointed. The museum is no bigger than a postage stamp. The guide, however, provided us with countless anecdotes and taught us a lot about Houdinis life. She was very clear, fun and spoke a flawless English.Especially liked the marketing strategies deployed by Harry and his wife, and also the books he wrote. There is a collection of artefacts and objects gathered by the museum, which are quite interesting.I was terribly deceived by the "magic show" that came as a prelude of the tour.Even though I have no idea how the pestidigator did what he did, the tiny room was crowded and we couldnt see a thing.Had to stand up to catch sight of the tricks, but didnt really see anything since there were about 20 people in front of the magician (who btw, has a stage he can stand on, but oddly performs on the ground). My advice would be to pay a visit in the morning rather than in the afternoon.
Ticket price not too much, very friendly staff and an impressive magic show at the end. A lot of the items are replicas from movies but there are a few original items/signed items etc.
This is only a small museum, a short guided tour and a magician show. The show was good but I would have thought the tricks might have been a bit more on the escape side, seeings how Houdini dedicated his life to escapology . But it was a fun little shoe, magician had a little charm, which helped. The tour and exhibits was short and sweet but a few bits packed in in that time. You dont really get much time to really examine the exhibits as you are ushered through and although they say you can looks theyre clearly on a schedule for the next tour/show.Although only a small place, for a private business I think this is well worth the price. Finally, the staff were pretty much the only nice locals I came across in the whole of budapest. They were very friendly and accommodating. Thanks for an awesome time.
What this museum lacks in size it makes up for in care and attention. The owner was there and was more than happy to chat to us about his collection and his journey to bring the house of Houdini to life. The "tour where you are told Houdinis life story was engaging, informative and entertaining. Staff are clearly passionate about what they do, which is great to see. The crowning glory for me was the magic show included in the price of admission. Sabi the illusionist wowed me ( not my husband who watches too much Penn and Tellerand we both walked out grinning. Probably the highlight of our trip to Hungary!!
Adult ticket 8 eur, 6 eur for kids up to 11 years but very much worth it. It includes 20 minutes magic show plus tour in the museum which consists of couple or rooms only but with quite few original items once owned by Houdini. The story about the great magician is very interesting so I found the visit to this museum a highlight of the visit to Buda Castle District.
