Historic Western hotel offering cozy room with antique furnishings, plus Wi-Fi & a brewpub.
Beautiful old building but I would not stay there again. Stayed in the top of the town suite, in the first bed in the main room. Pipes are LOUD. you can hear traffic and random idiots revving their truck engines. Got maybe four hours of sleep. Oh and this is with earplugs in. Everything is just so loud. I get it’s an old hotel but I live in an old craftsman house in Tacoma that’s 13 years older, and it’s close to a busy street, and it’s WAY quieter. So I don’t know if they just used the cheapest materials possible or cut corners when updating the building, or just didn’t care if the pipes were loud or what, but holy hell, good luck sleeping at all if you aren’t the heaviest sleeper in the world. This place needs to invest in wall insulation. Will stay in an Airbnb next time I come to Glenwood Springs.
Its historic, in other words, not like modern accommodations. Our room had a sitting room and a bedroom. Not large but not cramped with a couch, table, bedroom furniture. The front lobby and area to the left and up a few steps has some unusual and interesting articles. Glenwood Springs has a small downtown area with shops and restaurants. On one side of The Hotel Denver is a good restaurant, on the other side is a good breakfast place that opened at 6:00am and both are accessible from inside the hotel. The walk to Glenwood Springs pool is just across the bridge and a pleasant experience. Parking is on the street or $20 per night to park in a parking lot.
One of the highlights of our vacation to the Western Slope to see family was staying in Glenwood Springs at the Hotel Denver for one night. It is a highly unique hotel that also allowed our dog traveling with us to stay as well. It is truly a gem! However, while I appreciate the vintage ambience, I think that vintage beds go a little too far. Normal beds on a vintage frame would certainly have allowed us to get more than five hours of sleep. Other than that, everything about our stay was excellent and would recommend just for the historic experience especially if youre not staying long!
You’re right in the middle of Downtown Glenwood! An historic hotel with uniquely decorated lobbies, halls and rooms, all with a throwback feel. And yet they maintain a contemporary level of organization and cleanliness. All combined, Hotel Denver gives you the authentic western mountain feel you’re hoping for while simultaneously providing the luxury that vacation lodging deserves. The attached brewery has excellent craft beer and a rocking vegan hummus plate, and the services at the front desk were spectacular. From cab fare to resort towels for the hot springs, they incorporated our short stay into the various sites we wanted to visit seamlessly. Great stay.We will be back, thank you!!!!
Have been staying here for years, last time I reviewed I gave it 5 stars. Used to love this hotel. Had to downgrade from 5 stars to 3. Not sure what has happened, but the amenities are not what they used to be. Feels like they have had a change in ownership.Paid for a premium room, but was given the smallest room I have ever had here. Not much more space than a closet. Should not have been in the premium category. The bathroom floor did not look like it had been thoroughly cleaned in a while. There were urine salts under the waste basket next to the toilet. The floor in the room had greasy food residue left from the prior tenants. Probably just ran a vacuum over the wood floor.Parking used to be free, they now charge $20 per day (in my opinion, thats pretty steep for a small town.)They no longer offer pool passes (they seem to be in bed with Iron Mountain Hot Springs and Amusement Park, and are aggressively pushing those venues.)Liked coming up during the week, but Wednesdays and Thursdays are now completely booked by the Rocky Mountaineer. Can no longer book a mid-week stay. Apparently they book all the premium rooms, which were still being cleaned when we got there on Friday. Consequently, even though you are now coming up on the weekend you still get whats left over.To top it off, the weekend we were there, they were holding drag races in the street next to the Hotel at 2:30 AM. So much for the quiet mountain town.Probably wont be going back, there are other places to stay in Glenwood. I have heard that they re-did all of the rooms at Hotel Colorado. Might be worth another look.
The only good thing I can say about this hotel is the location to catch the Rocky Mountaineer train. The first room they gave us the bed was too tall for me to get in as I am short and have MS so I called the front desk and they said they were fully booked and would find a stool to help me. The bed was at least 3 feet high and they brought a short sool that did not help and miraculously they had a room they could move us to that I could climb up to get in. The bed squeaked every time you moved. They may like the antique furniture but the drawers were so nasty I would not use them. The linens on the bed had a musty smell to them. The floors are uneven due to the hotel being 100 years old and it makes it hard for me to walk without falling. I would never stay there again. It would be a great location for a new hotel.
Location is amazing. Bed was comfortable. We were placed on the 4th floor. The elevator only went 3 floors, with an ada lift for the fourth floor. We are traveling cross country and had several heavy bags loaded in the bed of our truck so we had to bring them in each night. The lift never worked so we had to physically haul them up 2 flights of stairs.I brought this to the attention of Mia, the front desk agent. She said she would have the manager contact us but that there wasnt much he could do since we had an expedia reservation. Wrong information...we booked through the front desk, in person, the day before. She also told us it was brand new and hadnt even working well. Why did they put us up there?I also noted with her that the coffee sugar packets were opened from a previous attendant and the body lotion was a half empty bottle.3 days later and I havent heard from the manager. Over 250$ a night and attention to detail stank.
Was a wonderful little hotel with fun history. Fantastic location, easy to find parking (they also provided paid parking), super clean and cozy room. Walking distance to shops, food, even a grocery store. They allowed dogs which was a huge relief. A treat for just passing through town. Our only complaints are that we had hardly any amenities (no fridge, hot water kettle, pool/hot tubyet the room was priced as if there were these amenities. Looks like the hotel was remodeled in the 80s since it had some tacky modern for the 80s updates (office tile ceiling in the bathroom).
Beautiful historic hotel in the middle of downtown Glenwood Springs. Incredible front desk staff who were friendly and accommodating! We asked for a room change, and they were gracious enough to update our room at no additional charge. I highly recommend staying in room 301! This is a must stay if you are in Glenwood Springs. Thank you to Mia, Merilee, and Hayden!
I want to thank the Hotel Denver for being so kind and understanding. I have stayed with them before and loved it. I had plans to be there tomorrow night but was given a heartbreaking diagnosis this morning that my dog is dying so I won’t be able to make it. The hotel was kind enough to allow me to cancel my reservation without charge even though I was pst the time frame for doing so. Personal care and understanding like this is a rare thing these days and I’m incredibly grateful that they would be so thoughtful. I look forward to happier days and a chance to stay with them in the future.
Excellent stay at Hotel Denver on our honeymoon. We had an adorable split level room and loved everything about it. The staff were friendly, made recommendations, and it was easy to check in/out and park. The hotel is walking distance to town and the adventure park (if you’re up for a bit of a stroll). We had an incredible time!
Had to pull the ripcord on a truly hellacious experience at Hotel Denver tonight. While I’m a longtime dog owner, the hotel’s pet policy failed it tonight. There was a guest(swho left their dog in their room and the dog was barking non-stop into the night and could be heard everywhere on the 3rd floor due to the hard floors that created an echo chamber. Our 6 and 9 year old couldn’t sleep, so we checked out and had to find another hotel in Glenwood late at night. The front desk staff were apologetic, but unable to do anything due to rules they said that prevent them from entering the room. The jackhole guests were not responding to the calls from the hotel either. I don’t know what to really say about the place. The rooms were nice, but if the pet policy creates the potential for a situation like this to perpetuate, and you can’t sleep there, what good is decor or location. If it was a loud person, they would be able to send someone up to address it. This was like someone leaving a siren on in a room and the hotel was unable to do anything about it. To the jackholes who were in room 302 with the poorly trained dog…..you’re lousy people. Got a refund at least, but would never book a room there again.
This is a very nice hotel. Beautifully restored with great service and a terrific location near dining, shopping and all the sites. It’s right across from the train station. Plus there the Glenwood Canyon Brewpub is in the same building. Handy. And delicious.
The rooms were very clean, very quiet, staff was great with restaurant suggestions. The hotel is dog friendly which was wonderful. Great location! We would definitely stay here again.
We rode the train from Provo Utah to Glenwood Springs CO. Hotel Denver is extremely convenient to this historic train station. Right across a narrow street. Both the hotel and the train station are located in the most perfect area of town. Beautiful views in every direction and within walking distance to endless restaurants and shopping. The room was upgraded and very clean and inviting. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay there and would stay again.
It was a very charming place. Our room was huge. The staff were all really delightful and helpful. They made a point of greeting us and doing what they could to assist us with all of our questions. I would highly recommend The Hotel Denver in Glenwood Springs. I can’t wait to come back.
I am going to edit my review. I stayed there again last week (best rate for workin spite of my past experience. Very different experience this time. Beautiful room, very quiet night, friedly staff. Hopefully my experience from 2 months ago was a fluke.
The hotel is very clean and well kept the staff made us feel welcomed and had a wonderful attention to detail. The room is a nice size and the room with the hotsprings passes included made it a wonderful value!!Highly recommended!
Beautiful hotel that is centrally located in the downtown area. Everything is walking distance that you could want from the hotel. Our room was very nice and faced the Colorado River. It was a nice antique-industrial blend that looked like a nice studio rather than a hotel room.Staff was friendly and accommodating and the brewpub downstairs had good beers on tap with friendly bar staff.Overall highly recommended.
This hotel is very cute. The staff is very helpful. We had a dog who got stressed and they were very professional about it and even gave us some toys. The room was comfortable and spacious. I will definitely come back and also to recommend especially to dog owners.
Perfect Location to take advantage of downtown, hot springs, and all that Glenwood has to offer. The hotel has done an excellent job of keeping the historic feel while providing modern amenities. The staff is friendly and helpful.
I stayed there this last weekend. What an amazing and beautiful hotel. They were so friendly and even gave our dog some treats. Rodger the manager was so helpful and gave us the best ideas for how to spend our time in the city. With his recommendations for food and events we had a blast. They had a trainee working, he was so nice and thoughtful. I highly recommend this hotel. To anyone looking for an amazing Accommodations. Thank you so much for the time we spent there.
