Sergiev Posad, Moscow Oblast, Russia, 141300, Yuzhnyy
Walled Orthodox monastery, founded by a 14th-century saint, with church frescoes dating from 1655.
Fabulous place. Great choir that needs to be heard
Visited here in September, 2014.This unbelievably colorful abbey (or cathedral?is the center of the area called "Sergiyev Posad". According to what I have googled, this abbey is like a symbol of Russian Orthodox Church. You can go there by train from a station in Moscow, taking about 1 hour. Its long a little bit, but you dont have to change a train on the way, so it might be just a great chance to see beautiful sceneries of the Moscow suburb from a train window.Personally I guess those who havent been to Russia can never imagine this country really likes something colorful, especially churches and palace, but it is not the case. Once you have come here, sort of stereotype in your mind would be changed.
Good

Свято-Троицкая Сергиева Лавра.Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra. A historical legacy of the historical development of the orthodox church in Russia,The building is shaped like a broad fortress and inside there are several buildings such as churches, monasteries and other buildings. The thick walls which partly start to peel with age but are maintained and well cared for.Besides being actively used as a place of worship, this place is also a museum. If you have free time you can stop by on the left side of the entrance there is a cafe run by a church that sells typical Russian food and according to the menu, all foods sold there are also menus of priests and residents of the monastery.Inside the area, you can find several shops selling various souvenirs, complete from key chains and simple magnets to beautiful and expensive icons. If you like jewelry and crystal work you can also buy it there. If you feel hungry around there is a bread shop, cafe and fresh fruit seller in the area.

In God We Trust...
Beautiful historical place
When several hermits gathered on the island, the Monk Zosima arranged for them a small wooden church in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord with a refectory. At the request of the Monk Zosima of Novgorod was sent to the newly created abbot with hegumen with antimins for the cathedral church. This was the beginning of the famous Solovetsky monastery.

Beautiful place, worth to see it!
This is very good place! It so beautiful!
Point of interest not to be missed. Great site for photography and sightseeing with rich historical and religious interest. We happened to witness numerous members replacing another singing choir in very lovely high pitch voices at a significant event in the chapel.
Racist church! why? because if you have a face of "foreigners", especially if you are asian, you will be asked by a man (without any official identification documentto buy a ticket at the office opposite to the entrance. Why is it racist? Well, the man at the entrance does not check the ticket of everyone, he let go the majority of the people without asking them to buy a ticket and there is no formal ticket control mechanisms. The man just randomly picks you up and asks you to buy a ticket. Kudos!
Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is an amazing monastery with many beautiful orthodox churches in various styles. The most famous and outstanding is Assumption Cathedral, with blue and golden roofs, that can be also seen from the bell tower.
