Traditional 18th-century wood-panelled pub serving cask ales, with fireplace and outdoor space.
Yes great place for drinks and a very good decent menu. Quiet spot on the side road of the main road here. You wont be disappointed with the drinks selection here or the food. Staff efficient and polite adding to the comfortable surroundings. Highly recommended.
We had roast beef there on Sunday, following great reviews. This is not roast beef, this is beef done sous-vide. No crispy outside, no grain texture, only uniformity and soft and certainly no roast beef taste. Such a disappointment when accompaniments were excellent. £22 was not worth it.We also paid £8 for mackerel starter: what a con. It was one tiny strip of mackerel with nouvelle cuisine prettiness; mine was gone in 4 small bites. The waiter was inexperienced and asked us if we wanted new cutlery or to keep our mackerel cutlery for the roast. 🤦♀️
The barmaid was rude and and to be honest was acting like she didn’t want to be there.Such a shame because it’s a really nice pub.
Went here for a Sunday roast and it was delicious. The staff were very attentive and welcoming.
Great food, great service. My wife and I really enjoyed the beef for two, and the wine (we chose the Château Teyssier 2014 was fabulous when paired with the beef).
Recommended and much enjoyed!! Not a touristic attraction, so we had a nicely done Sunday roast!
Went for the Sunday roast. Great meal with the perfect atmosphere. Be sure to ask for more gravy and horseradish. The only criticism is that I wish they provided a proper steak knife to cut the the roast, rather than a butter knife.
Went today for lunch and walked in at 1155 to be told go wait outside as they are not ready yet to open..even though a sign outside says dont waitoutside as it annoys the neighbours. Pompous staff and in the end glad we didnt eat there. A polite way would be please have a seat at the bar while we set up for lunch?
Good food (we had the Sunday roast and fish and chipsand reasonable service. Great atmosphere. I’d give it a 4.5 if I could.
Very atmospheric local pub!Good place to get with local people with good food and drinks!)It really busy here on a sunny days so bare in mind)Proper British Pub! 👍🏼
Probably the best pub I’ve been. Lovely food quick service. Be sure to book as they’re really busy esp during the weekend. With the occasional celeb spotting (:
Probably one of the very most charming pubs in London. Even though fairly big tourists attraction food served here is delicious and not overpriced. I would recommend chicken fillet served with sep mushroom paste and hazelnut hispi cabbage. Tasty and original dish, definitely elevated style pub food. Good selection of decently priced wines. Staff committed to providing their guests with great experience. One of the brightest stars of Hampstead’s food stage.
Nice pub at the top of a hill. Good selection of beers. Can be very busy.
Great placeDelicious food, friendly yet professional staff. Good selection of drinks
Such a cute, tucked away pub. Amazing food and lovely service!
Fantastic pub. Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was exceptional, I had chicken and cabbage with truffle sauce and it was outstanding. They have a great selection of beers on tap and a large range of spirits to choose from. Definitely worth s visit.
I came with my daughter for a 3-course lunch on a Saturday. The food was delicious and very tasty (sea bream and fish and chipsand the service impeccable. They did not even complain when our dog accidentally spilled his water bowl all over the floor - just graciously wiped without making a comment. One of the best pubs where to begin or end a walk on Hampstead Heath and full of charm.
Great food. Roast chicken for main and mango cheesecake with mango sorbet for dessert. Will definitely be going back.
Food was lovely and fairly priced for the quality that you get. Especially the desserts! We were in the dining area upstairs and the staff were very friendly. They let us stay longer than we booked even after closing the dining area because we were really enjoying it as a group.Definitely recommend and would go back to drink and eat!
The staff here are always really great, I think its the best pub in Hampstead. Ive had the roast ~10 times and its always been a very consistent 8/10, never disappoints but the gravy could be a lot better.
This really is a busy pub if you wish to dine. Especially popular with the locals. There is so much history here and being listed as a Grade 2 building. You need to make bookings to avoid being turned away from their doors.Food is good and service reasonable.Food 8/10, ambience 8.5/10, service 8/10, value for money 8/10.Quite a hidden gem!
We made a booking for dinner and we’re served some horrific oysters, both me and my dinner partner had food poisoning from this. Poor service, couldn’t get a drinks order right and tablecloth was dirty where we were seated, overall beyond poor!
Private function. Staff were superb, however, delivery of food to the table was slow. There were speeches between courses and it would have been good to have had more staff serving.to speed up the whole process. Food was good and the pub itself has a wonderful atmosphere and ambience.
Very sweet pub, tucked away in the cobbled streets of Hampstead... definitely a locals pub. We were there for a wedding reception and I suspect it was a bigger party than usual, or there were less staff than usual because service took a long time! Lovely event though and very attentive staff.
Really nice historic bar located just off the high street has more of a gastro feel than it did a few years ago but all of them do.Beer is well maintained but can be a bit pricey (the area is pricey but no other pubs in the area charge that much for a pint)?Would really recommend for a drink but just the most expensive bar in the area
Very nice pub/restaurant in Hampstead, fantastic food, the Sunday roast was the best I have ever eaten. Staff very professional and friendly, what else can I say TOP 5 star.
We came here for a Sunday roast and it was excellent! Up there with the top 3 roasts I have ever had! Everything on the plate was cooked beautifully! We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend coming here. The pub itself is very cosy and in a lovely, quiet location. Five stars!
It was a nice experience. We took the sunday roast there and it was delicious. It was accompanied by Yorkshire Pudding and a few Frontier Lager, delicious as well. The restaurant ist situated on a hilltop an the way there from Hampstead Heath tube station can be made through a park. To sum it up: nice afternoon, nice place, nice food.
A hidden gem where you get great beer selection and fine dining-like service. Jakub, to name one, is very attentive and professional. Thank you!
Have a great lunch here. Good food and service. The area is beautiful as well
We had lunch after our tour of West Highgate Cemetery. The service was excellent. The hostess, Naomi, was very helpful. She even recommended some local sites to visit. The lemon sole was excellent. Unfortunately, the octopus starter was not. We ordered it because it was not on the menu and thought it would be fresh - it was tasty but a bit chewy. Not sure it if was the octopus itself or the way it was prepared. The lunch was also a tad expensive. Our lunch with a main, starter, and two glasses of wine was $138. Helpful Hint: Take time to explore the neighborhood and the nearby Hampstead Heath.
Great place , old style english pub! Super cosy inside and great food
Up a hill, so was a nice exercise walking to get there. Really nice atmosphere, went for a company event. Got a private room area upstairs. Staff was nice and had good services, food was good, ordered the chicken croquettes for starters and lemon sole for mains. The steak my colleague ordered looked good. Good sized portion. overall a good experience and enjoyed the visit
dont let this place deceive you, its not just a pub! its also a killer restaurant. you can go in the back to have a lovely candle lit meal, and all the food is delicious. I had the shepherds pie and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. I would definitely come back here again.
This place never disappoints, fantastic food and friendly staff. Location is fab too!
Fantastic food, five stars service, very helpful and polite staff. I had stone bass and my friend ordered fish and chips which I ate some of it. Both were really fine dinning quality. The chef is a magician because I have never had a tasty, crispy and thin batter like this fish and chips despite being a big fish and chips eater and tried many fish and chips in the uk. I highly recommend this place and would definitely go again.
One of my favorite pubs in London. Friendly staff and wonderful food.
Perfect for a cozy Sunday family lunch. Loved everything about this place. Food, atmosphere and service.
Sunday roast is one of the best I’ve had. Generous portion and perfectly cooked. Stunning building and ideal location in Hampstead village. Great pub, will be coming back at some point.
Absolutely lovely! It was such an authentic British experience with lovely stuff and great food at good prices. It is also dog friendly :)
amazing food (including for vegans and vegetarians+ the place is beautiful
Love this pub. Off the main road and full of life and gHistory.
Great service, classic English pub. My favourite dish was the burrata. Definitely a MUST try with the truffle popcorn. Pet friendly inside the pub. Food was good 👍🏻 but would love to have some pancakes or a french toast for Sunday brunches.
Cozy place with delicious food. Loved the octopus and steak. Great service from staff, particularly Saoud! Made my experience very enjoyable.
This is a picture-postcard pub, slightly out of the town centre. A pretty small interior, partitioned into different areas, creates a very cosy environment.Although it should probably be classified as a gastropub, it caters for casual drinkers and regulars, which is a real positive. Also you can get quality small food (albeit at Hampstead prices!!!at the bar, which I also love.Drink prices are high, even by Hampstead standards, which would make me rate it 4.5 stars, if that was an option. Lovely, professional staff, and the care for regulars, however, makes it deserving of 5 stars in my opinion.
The most loveliest pub hosted by such welcoming staff. Food was delicious too! A must visit when in Hamstead
Food was a little bit bland to my taste. But the waiter who served our table was so kind (the lady in a pony tail and with glasses).
Real hidden gem in Hampstead! Beautiful pub with a spacious space upstairs for dining! We reserved for dinner for 4 and were surprised by the atmosphere! High ceiling, wonderful drawings on the wall and not many tables which gives it a special vibe! The food was also very pleasant! The truffle mac and cheese was our favorite!Staff were very polite and friendly, making sure everything is alright ones in a while!Absolutely recommend this place!
THE quintessential Hampstead/North London/English pub experience. The atmosphere and location are unrivalled. My favourite pub in the world, throughout the year but particularly special with the windows open during hot summer days or curled up next to the fireplace after a brisk winter walk on the Heath. This place is special. Martin the manager was very friendly and accommodating when we had a large group recently.
A very confidential feeling when you enter this historical building and dive into the pub atmosphere.Very short and promising seasonal menu.Everything we had was perfect after quite a long waiting time though.Great wines and perfect atmosphere in the upper restaurant room, with bug windows opening to the trees.Perfect for romantic time and friends get together
