Long-running seasonal British restaurant specialising in grass-fed Scotch beef steaks.
The Guinea Grill in Mali
Description
One of the best meat places I visited. And very relaxed atmosphere in a pub setting.
MoreDidnt get to see much of it as it was full, we drank outside. Good, quiet location. Good selection of beer and wine.
MoreThe pub here alone is incredible. The small food menu they offer will leave you with a full stomach. They have a great selection of beer. The bar staff is top notch and very friendly. If you have the opportunity to dine in the restaurant make sure to come hungry. Everything we consumed here was fantastic. Our waitress was so helpful and gave great recommendations.
MoreVery lovely place indeed. Old school, no fuss, local families enjoy their weekend dinner, excellent service. Our older family members have been going to this restaurant for 30 years, we live in Switzerland so it only happen 3-4 times / year, still I am so grateful that establishment like this still exists. Free from todays influencers and loud "showing off" people. We are looking forward to next visit.
MoreThe steaks are delicious, the pies and bread are good as well. Feels expensive in the beginning, but definitely worth the price. Its a classy, old school restaurant, just a tad crowded :(
MoreNice ambience, and I was expecting something special with the award winning food history based on other ratings and recommendations. The Guinness was reasonably good, but very cold. I ate in the bar side, so for some strange reason couldnt order veg with my pie. The pie although tasty, was fairly small and came standalone with no gravy (sacrilege). The pie also did not have a pastry base - it comes in a bowl with a pastry topping, which for me isnt proper pie. You could order chips as an extra as nothing comes with the pie (which I did), but it needed veg + gravy to make it a proper meal. Just the pie and chips came to c£20 which for me (a passionate cook and pie loverwasnt best value for money. Indeed it was a tasty lunch, but you can enjoy a full pub pie and beer lunch for half the price in many London pubs. So in brief, it fell well short of my expectations of one of the best pub pies in London. Liked the old London pub vibe and would return for drinks. and possibly a Guinness.
MoreGreat for steak . Not cheap but worth every penny. Have a guiness and a few lamb chops for a snack amazing
MoreHere for beer and bar snacks this time. All of which were very good. Great atmosphere in the busy bar. A glance at the grill menu certainly encouraged us to return for a longer visit.
MoreGreat food, great wine, great beer, great service. Great for: romantic dinner for 2, girls night out dinner, chill Sunday roast.
MoreOld school steak house serving up nothing but quality steaks and tasty side dishes.
MoreStaff thought she was better than us!! Overcharged us by £12.95 she soon came back down to earth. Why do people think they are better than you just because they work in a posh area!!? She was very rude and unhelpful when serving us at first. Didnt have yimd to explain about the wine just threw the menu when asked about Rose! Wouldnt recommend thus pub because of yhe rudeness
MoreJoseph (Giuseppewas an excellent host. The steak was deliciously seasoned, no need for sauces. A lovely birthday treat. Thanks to all the staff and guests that serenaded me!
MoreThis is a real treat for food lovers and in particular meat lovers. The steaks are excellent and cooked to perfection. Do not plan on doing anything after eating other than maybe having a snooze. The wine list is also fantastic. I recommend the sirloin on the bone and the duck starter. A very memorable meal
MoreExcellent meat, cooked to perfection, served at the back of a very old school English pub. Service friendly and efficient. Laurent takes great care of you.
MoreLanded into the Guinea Grill yesterday as we heard the Guinness was good and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by an Irish Bartender called Alan who served up these amazing pints we had heard about. We didnt plan to eat but after a few pints we felt it was the right thing to do. We had no reservation but Alan seen to it and it was not a problem. The staff in there was amazing and service was excellent from Start to finish. Highly recommend the Guinea Grill to anyone.Cant wait to come back soon.
MoreOh my. I came here on the recommendation of the Guinness Guru after it was featured on Londons best pint. The lad who poured my pint has either ignored what the owner has showed him or hasn’t been taught (which I doubt as the owner seemed sincere in the video). My pint had too much head so he poured a little out into the drip tray and then topped it up and it then overflowed which as we all know is Sacrilege. I will give the lad the benefit of the doubt as the pub was heaving with people in after work. I’m going to try again today, fingers crossed. I’m sure if it was the owner featured in the video the experience would have been much different.
MoreNice location and good service. The haggis is good. The cooks are trying to cook good food, but our aged ribeye meat didnt have a prime marbling, so was not that good. Its better than the cheap steak we can buy at the hotel, but not good enough for the price.
MoreAlways love this place. Steaks are top quality. Quintessential English pub to bring visitors too, who love the whole atmosphere. Staff are superb and ideally located for easy access from the Club.
MoreWonderful food beautifully cooked and served. Not for vegetarians!! Wine menu to die for. I plan to go again and worth every penny but not a cheap experience.
MoreStill the very best pie in the country (Potato and Wensleydale piewith truffle, leeks and poached egg). I had covered most of the UK countryside during my cycling trips and probably tasted more pies that you could handle in the very best venues. Quality of their pies is just excellent. Prepare yourself for long wait this place is very busy and its the price of their success therefore be understandable.
MoreTough to review, turned up, waited and had a beer outside for Sunday lunch, when all 7 turned up, went inside and was told I had cancelled my meal. But they had space. Had an amazing meal, amazing food, wine, service (waiters were great at serviceand were then given a bill which we paid then checked (stupid I knowand they over charged us by £350! We asked for it to be taken off (with the service as they said it was due to 2 tickets coming through at the same time and as we were close to leavingand they were super rude about us asking to have the service removed. Food great though!
MoreGreat place to eat drink and get well looked after, I have to have a gluten-free diet and they have a separate A4 sheet of information telling you the gluten free options you can have. Many thanks will definitely return in the future.
More2nd visit in the last 12 months. Excellent both times. V good service from skilled professional team. Super menu with real pld school classic cooking. The roast beef is great and the yorkshire puddings perfect. Good wine list with plenty of selections and varying proce points.
MoreCame for dinner - expected somethj g good based on the high rating but was disappointed mainly due to service and average meal.Ordered the chateaubriand and some sides - for the price it was not that great. Quite chewy. The waiter was almost rude - we ordered a coffee and waited a while and when asking "we ordered a coffee a while back but it still hasnt came" response was "well you didnt order it from me"When we were there the resturant had about 5 other guests so it wasnt if he was super busy.Better places to go with better quality and service for less
MoreThe food here was amazing I was honestly expecting to eat inside a pub, but it is not its very "fancy" I totally felt underdressed but our server was extremely nice.
MoreA typical and classic London experience making you travel back in timeEntering the venue youll first be surprised by standing in the middle of a typical old fashioned pub. Once you notified the staff that you have a reservation at the restaurant, youll be guided through the back in an as old-fashioned yet elegant dinner room. Seating is tight albeit comfortable. Youll be sharing the medium sized room (there are 2 apparentlywith the more senior population of London as well as younger folks. The place is known for serving the local finance and political figures.Regarding the menu, the specialty are pretty obvious: red meat and lamb. But not any kind of meat, top quality and superbly prepared. My friend and I took each a 500g-Côte de Boeuf, but the choice of cuts is very diverse. Roughly 10 different sides and a few sauces are also available. We took the wild mushrooms prepared in garlic butter, delicious, and a gratin dauphinois which had nothing to envy from the one of a French chef. Dessert wise there are a few options and although it was not as fine as in top restaurants of the city the price/quality ratio was very well achieved. The service was as the place, very old school. Only negative point was that the waiters started to pack all the tablecloths in a rather messy way.Id highly recommend anyone to pay a visit to this restaurant especially if youre a meat lover, the quality is just exquisite but be ready to pay around GBP 50 for a good steak without any sides.
MoreExcellent meal. The steak and oyster pie was unbelievable. By far the best steak pie Ive had. Beef Wellington was also good, as was the duck & beef pate. Their bread tasted freshly made.
MoreMet one of the managers… Alan, earlier in the day. He mentioned a great steakhouse he worked at and told us to come by. So my girlfriend and I with no reservations and our last night in London popped in. We arrived around 815 and the kitchen was closed however, they sparked the grill back up and prepared a phenomenal meal. The food, the service and dining experience was outstanding. Can’t wait to come back!
MoreVery good steak and sides. Boneless sirloin 460gr was amazing. Food could take 5 stars but unfortunately the restaurant was too congested and busy, that’s why the 4 stars. Had a table at 20:30 and seated at 20:50. Ordered then and the food came at 22:00.I left happy cos the food was good, but was the first time I had to wait that much at a restaurant, especially on a Wednesday night.I would visit again to see if will be faster.
MoreExcellent Sunday lunch - perfectly cooked filet steak and steak & kidney pudding - great service and long varied wine list
MoreThey have a dining room opposite of the pub where you can sit comfortably with some social distancing (if it weren’t too full). Make sure to stress on medium rare. Our steak was ok but the lamb came too cooked. The pie wasn’t bad, a bit bigger and watery than expected, but I guess it’s traditional.
MoreFood was pretty good but was on the high side price wise. They are also quite strict on table times. Service was quick and efficent. It is quite cramped
MoreWe had the Sunday roast beef. The medium rare beef arrived not much cooked. The slices got membrane inning through the meat which was quite difficult to cut due to the blunt knife. The roast potatoes were hard and a bit burnt on the outside. Lastly the side we ordered didnt arrive. Overall experience was quite disappointing. Very crowded but great atmosphere.
MoreIts small, old school and expensive. But its also known as one of the essential restaurant experiences of London and its very hard to disagree with that. Phenomenal steak and brilliant atmosphere, well worth going. Also note worthy that the sides are absolutely excellent, save some space to go big on those as well.
MoreBest pint of guinness this side of Ireland! And thats just the beginning. This place has a beautiful vibe and warm atmosphere, we popped in 2 days on the spin as we were blown away with the guinness, we were lucky enough to get a table for dinner Saturday night(big shout out to oisinand again wow, some of the best tasting pies, steaks and entree not to forget the homemade scotch eggs 🤤. To conclude this place is a must visit for guinness lovers and also anybody who has a good taste for food. I would also like to mention Joseph who made us feel welcome and looked after us from bar to restaurant. Again thank you for having us oisin you have a true Diamond of a bar and restaurant 5* isnt enough!
MoreOvercooked steak. Expensive menu, lack of service, very loud. Felt like a sloppy experience overall and absolutely not worth 100 quid a head. Seems other people love this place, so may have been a miss. Guinness was delightful though
MoreWhat we though was going to be a perfect end to a fantastic weekend in London, well we was thoroughly disappointed! The service was shocking! i think 4 different people were attending to us but none of them knew what the other had done! so confusing. We waited ages for someone to take a drink order! we has to ask the waitress as she walked past. My drink arrived but my partners wine didnt, then a gentleman walked past holding the wine an placed it on the table behind when i called him over to ask where the wine was, he walked off then returned and said oh this wines for you chaotic! anyway we skipped starters and opted for the beef roast! id read that they prep the gravy during the week and the cuts of beef on the chiller made you think we was in for something extra special! How wrong we were! we asked for medium rare beef! it looked like the thin slices of beef you get in those microwavable roasts ! the potatoes were skin on baby new potatoes with skins on! what happened to fluffy crispy roast potatoes?? awful! and this gravy well it was like dish water ! so watery !!!! this was one of the worst roasts we have ever had & we travel around Kent eating a lot! How you get away with charging £36 for this is amazing ! ok so they removed the roasts from our bill but please looks elsewhere if you want a decent roast! utterly disappointed.
MoreLove the steaks, flavors came through!Service overall could be massively improved. Took an hour and a half to get the meals. Steaks werent even that warm when it got served.Sommelier was knowledgable when I chose the wine however made decisions on his own when he probably ran out of the wine and served 1 bottle different without informing me.Good clean place with a chance of keeping things upscale but eat earlier so you get proper service.
MoreFirst of all the food was beautiful, I had the Scottish smoked salmon followed by the beef Wellington. The let down however was the service which was terribly slow. I was a solo diner and once I arrived I had to wait for ages to be shown to my table and given a menu. After fifteen minutes of waiting I got up to let a staff member know I was ready to order. Order placed and like I said earlier the food was excellent but once I had finished my main course I was sat with an empty plate for another 15 minutes whilst many staff members came passing by my table, I eventually told one of them I was ready to order dessert and my plate was taken and I was given a dessert menu. After being forgotten about for another long while I told a passing waiter that I was ready to order and he acknowledged only to pass through my seating area several times before dissappearing. Eventually a different waiter said he would take my order and instead I asked for the bill as I didnt have enough time to wait for another course and any other delays.I hate to have to leave these comments about the front of house staff because I know how busy this job can be but there were other tables around me receiving much more attentive service. There were lots of staff and the restaurant wasnt particularly busy at the time. Solo or not I was still a paying customer and this was a let down on an otherwise lovely meal.
MoreCame all the way from Nottingham to meet family and visit this institution. It came very highly recommended and did not disappoint. The meat was cooked to perfection and so glad Chef chose and suggested the cuts. The trimmings were equally special, roast pots perfect and huge Yorkshires. Staff were very attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. Chef came and spoke to us a couple of times, shows that he is passionate about the food. We will be returning.
Morealways enjoy authenticity like this. The dining room is cosy with the top notched service you can expect from a long established institution like this. Food is great and please try the soda bread with the Guinness.
MoreIt was my first time eating traditional British cuisine and I must say the quality was top notch! From the meat to the vegetables, we were so happy at the end of our meal, delighted by 3 different desserts (my favourite was the bread and butter pudding). Its worth the money you spend (yes, it is a bit expensive).
MoreVisited last Saturday and wow...it was fantastic! The food was delicious and the best Ive had in a very long time. The dellived kidneys were so good, I had to ask for extra bread for the sauce!!Usually as a lone diner, I get ignored, hurried along or dumped in the worst table but not here, the service was second to none. Will be back the next time Im in London
MoreAmazing experience the service and food was phenomenal. The staff was very accommodating for our toddler they went out of their way to adjust the menur for him. I recommend this spot to any steak lover.
MoreA hidden gem in the middle of Mayfair, with character and atmosphere, delicious food and an amazing wine list. Where you go when you need a steak and a claret to carry you through the day... a must go!
MoreOne of the kept secrets in Mayfair; an exceptional restaurant paired with a traditional pub. The meat is the focus point of the restaurant, with the porterhouse the star, while the pies taking centre stage in the pub.Equally good for a business lunch or a catch-up over a few pints. Just make sure to clear the calendar, this is a place you can easily lose a few hours in.
MoreExcellent lunch (Sept 20with delicious food - the Beef Wellington and the puddings were especially good. Attentive and friendly service. Extensive wine list accessed through a QR code - very much aimed at those people who are looking to spend a fair amount.Rigorous Covid measures in place, but these do not detract from the lovely atmosphere of the pub.
MoreWe came here for date night and it did not disappoint. A lovely glass of wine outside before going in for dinner and choosing our steak. It was great that you could see the steaks and hear them being cooked. Lovely wine lost and very cosy inside. I will be coming back again!
MoreGreat place to eat! Everything is delicious! And personel is very nice. Especially the guy on front desk asking for coats is very friendly 😊 the only weird thing is that besides personel no other woman was dining inside. Dont know if just happened to this particular day/time. Fully recommended!
MoreCame here for breakfast on Saturday and it was a fantastic experience. All the staff were friendly attentive and welcoming. And the food, good lord, the food was absolutely stunning. The chef (and, I think, ownerwas clearly enthusiastic about the quality of produce he uses, which is always a good sign. The breakfast/brunch menu is one of the most varied and slightly unusual I have seen in London, with some choices involving tasty meat cuts and offal, as well as the more traditional fare of a full English. In the end we both went for the full English as the lure of the thick bacon and haggis was too strong! Neither of us can remember having a better breakfast ever, and we’ll definitely be returning to try some of the other options, particularly the kedgeree.Awesome experience from start to finish. No idea why this place isn’t more famous than it is, as it something really special.
