27A Hay's Mews, Mayfair, London W1J 5NY, Mpwapwa
Upmarket, traditional French cuisine in a luxurious, discreet setting with a leafy outdoor terrace.
Unfortunately they are now closed and we won’t get to enjoy their tasting menu any more. This was one of the best restaurants in Mayfair. Hoping to see a new owner soon and looking forward to what they will achieve in this wonderful place.
Top class food, especially the savoury dishes!! Would highly recommend the clam chowder, duck foie gras, landes chicken, and Dover sole.Unfortunately the service seemed to have slipped since my last visit (this was my third). Our waiter wasn’t smiley or talkative :( Also a la carte menu wasn’t offered on arrival and we were only offered the tasting menus, which I found very strange. We paid £35 extra to have the sole and turbot as starters. We were told that the sole would be in main course size (and hence the high supplementbut it was starter size when it arrived (it was as small as the clam chowder).. maybe I should have asked about that when the dishes arrived...The sommelier was knowledgable and funny tho:)
The second Michelin star is well deserved. The tasting menus, wine list and service are stunning. Worth saving up for, and setting aside a long afternoon or late evening to make the most of it. My favourite restaurant, beating The Cliff and Rabot 1745.
Really enjoyed the courses however did find it difficult to settle in after being ‘eyeballed’ from head to the toe by a very tall gentleman when lead me to the table. Therefore, we did have a nice evening in the end with excellent plates. An advice; when someone leaves the table for the loo and the napkin had been used for dining, it’d be grand to replace the napkin rather than picking it up, folding and placing it onto the table. A fresh replacement would had been appreciated.Oh, you might want to check the lamp shades at end of the walls. Our was really dusty and it was too close for comfort...
Just yet another fine dining restaurant which if you live in London youll end up trying at some point. We werent impressed for what we tried - food was good but nothing really special or different. Service was correct although there were some little details that shouldnt happen like not offering some extra bread or no petit fours at the end.Wine list extensive but you might struggle to get something nice reasonably priced. On a Saturday night its pretty busy. They have a set of some tables close to each others so if you want some privacy make sure to ask for a different table not flank both sides. Overall not really impressed.
Love the little garden at the entrance. We booked for lunch. Dinning room is modern and light... I would like some background music, but thats only my view. Food was absolutely amazing and well presented. The service was smooth and welcoming.Would visit again!
Amazing food and great service. A great place for a special lunch
Food 4/5Service 5/5Ambience 4/5Value 4/5Experience 4/5I can understand what theyre trying to achieve, but personally I think they arent quite there yet. The overall experience is good, but nothing gave us the wow factor. The veal dish was the best in terms of presentation, taste and experience. The cod missed the mark in my book, as the natural flavour of the fish was masked in the rest of the dish (curry). Feedback given to the wait staff. I hope that they get the last 🌟 so that we can try them again 🤤
Absolutely disgraceful. I regularly do fine dining and I am outraged that this place has two Michelin stars. They wouldnt get one star from me if I could award none with this review.I came here for a lunch meeting today and this is what I have to say:1. I was happy to be greeted by a welcoming receptionist and initially welcoming floor staff.2. I was sat by the window in direct sunlight. No curtains or blinds and no way to move. By the end of the appetisers I was already hot enough to take off my jacket and roll up my sleeves. By the main course, I was visibly sweating and uncomfortable.3. The wall behind my guest was heavily damaged from where the chair has been rubbing against it over time.4. The floor staff were absolutely miserable and disrespectful.5. I was offered tea and coffee at the end. I asked for a mocha and was rudely told that the restaurant was too good for this kind of drink. This is a very basic standard coffee with a lot of room for creativity... it contains coffee and it contains chocolate, many top end restaurants do fantastic mochas...6. The bread was basically stale and served from a gigantic basket of cold bread buns. Furthermore, when I was asked if I liked the entremet, I pointed out that I was not a fan of the palate cleanser... to which I was rudely told "its just meant to be a palate cleanser".Im afraid the floor staff ruined the better dishes and Im really angry. Its not what I wanted and certainly not worth what I paid. There are far better restaurants with far better service - even without Michelin stars.
It’s a really lovely place. French cuisine, British cuisine and innovation. The garden at the entrance it’s amazing. And the service too. The truffle dishes are delicious!
I had tasting menu with friends. Service was good. However, some dishes were very salty.
Attentive, synchronized and well trained staff. As a French person living in London, I expected more from a 3 stars Alain Ducasse establishment in terms of the food. We went for the 7 course tasting menu and I must admit, while the quality was there, the flavors did not transport me very far. Finally, the overall value for money is a miss. To me it’s a 1 star, not a 3 stars.
I came for the set lunch. The pricing point was a little high when compared to other Michelin-starred restaurants in the vicinity but the food was absolutely delicious and excellently cooked. My amuse bouche included a gazpacho that had been incorporated into a cherry tomato somehow - magic! The service was strange: It was professional but lacked continuity. An example is when a waiter asked if I would like more bread. I accepted and waited for 5 minutes after which, another waiter appeared and asked if I would like more bread. The same thing happened with the coffee. In short, the food was incredible but I expected better service.
Went in for the Mothers Day Special Lunch, and was overall quite impressed. I could tell they were trying very hard to pull off a luxurious feel serving oscietra caviar, black truffles, and foie gras all in one meal, and they were all great, but at the same time I felt as if they might be lacking a bit of creativity by playing it too safe. The presentation and handling of all ingredients were text book perfect, but it was expected considering the quality of ingredients theyre using. Wouldve appreciated a little kick of unexpected pleasant surprises, but combined with the professional service of staff and exceptional pairing suggestions from the somelier, it was overall a very pleasant dining experience. Also appreciated the cute complimentary birthday dessert for Dad and the take home chocolate. It was my first time here but other family members have been several times, and have all said their previous visits were much more impressive, so maybe Ill have to check it out again next time.
Food presentation is impressive (a bit tricky). Tastes good but not exceeds the expectation.
Heres a rewrite of the Greenhouse after attending a special Sunday lunch opening, they dont normally open Sundays. Menu was £250 a head (plus servicewithout booze!!! Expectations were thus sky high. Im simply saying they were met and then beaten. Albino caviar! More black truffle? And no sous vide in sight. Lets be serious a moment, the Greenhouse is serious and deservedly so... Service is impeccable, food impressed, this is 3 star terretory. Deserves applause.
Firstly the restaurant has a very beautiful green garden with a wooden walkway to the reception - great if one wants to take beautiful photographs. Inside, the restaurant has avant garden decor. The waiters and waitresses know the dishes in-depth and therefore give clear explanations regarding expectations. If you need help with wine selection just ask for a recommendation or go with a wine pairing menu. Many “free” dishes before and between different courses, very innovative approach to food preparation and presentation. Only issue I had was the caviar quantity was too small for the price when compared to other restaurants within the same level e.g Le Gavrouche who give 20gms for £10 less than than the Greenhouse where £45 gets you about only one 10gms. Overall the restaurant will offer you a true fine dining experience.
excellent food and serviceobviously what can be expected at a 2* Michelin restaurantthe tasting menu is well selected and smoothly presentedI choose also the wine pairing which was very well though, presented and explained
Was very excited to go. The night started off incredibly well with a warm reception and a duck foie gras that blew my mind. From there evrything went flattish and the service fumbled the ball. The scallop had nothing out of this world to mention. The venison was perfectly cooked but just ok. Dessert was all right. Service dissapeared in the middle of our dinner and was very slow. A different experience but do not plan to return.
Cannot describe how amazing our starter was, out of our eight course menu. I had a tough time deciding and couldn’t tell which one I liked more. We went there for Valentine’s Day. Really liked the atmosphere, quiet and perfect for that special day. They had separate vegetarian menus as well. Once the third course arrived which was mainly black egg, and we informed the staff we didn’t eat eggs. They changed our dish immediately with another one from the menu. One of the waiters would specifically just take care of our drinks. They gave explanation about every dish served. Food out of everything was of course amazing. Had a great time overall. Gave us champagne and chocolates as parting gift.
This is just a fantastic restaurant. The food is amazing en you feel very welcome.

It’s a while since I ate at The Greenhouse so I was looking forward to seeing what the new chef Alex Dilling had to offer. Wow the group of four of us were not disappointed. We had the tasting menu which included everything from caviar to truffles. The prettiest dish has to be the flower carved carrots on a delicate fish. The duck is roasted on the bone before being served. Elvis selected some fantastic wines. They should definitely retain their 2 stars with this level of food and service.
Cant fault it. Wonderful presentation, great ambience, excellent service. Wine pairing was quite traditional, but super. Had the tasting menu, and enjoyed every bit. Nothing about this place is left up to chance. If youre looking to splurge and want the traditional luxury food, this is the place to go. You can see the menu on their webpage
Wonderful experience. Absolutely would recommend to anyone looking for a Michelin quality meal in London.
Service is great! But the food is a little bit uder my expectation. Had a fish bone from my plate and the tart in photo 4 is so salty, waiter recommand me to have the salads with it but the salad itself is oily as well. But the service it good and you can tell the ingredients are great, maybe its just not my taste.
I had a fantastic experience there yesterday. Wonderful food, excellent wine - the place fully deserves its two Michelins stars. I also think it is great to have a business dinner there. Amazing place!
Enjoyed it- food was interesting but cant say it was very memorable
Great place and food. Chef Alex was just amazing. Will recommend the poached egg with truffle.
I ordered the Dorset crab (mint jelly, cauliflower foam, apple cubes), venison (wild berries, asparagusand the cucumber. The flavors all blend together to make a savory yet refreshing dish. The “extras”: wasabi marshmallow (sweet but slightly pungent), thyme and other herbs on this puff pastry with duck infused oil (fragrant, savory), and a coconut dusted tart. Petit fours: a “lollipop” (berry exterior with crunchy almondand chocolates. The seaweed butter was amazing—it was very much like seawater and seaweed (if you have tried it before). Goes very well with the bread and rich butter.Service was impeccable.
Absolutely amazing experience! Excellent food, impeccable service
An oasis inside the heart of Mayfair. Excellent food and extraordinary service. Very fresh ingredients and one of the best wine lists.
Stunning food in romantic and tranquil setting, yet atmosphere was relaxed. Our favourite dish was the crab, interesting flavours and textures balanced perfectly, definitely worthy of their 2 stars 🌟🌟
The food does not live up to its reputation. Great wine selection though.Vegetarian menu was a joke, they served the sides from the regular tasting menu as the main dish for the vegetarians, which made them look as "second class diners".
The place is immaculate, stylish and the service is of high standards. I believe food could be slightly better presented when it comes to the actual dishes.Snacks were pretty cool and tasty.
Greenhouse delivers everything one would expect from such a highly rated restaurant, and then some! The food and the service are exquisite.Dishes are modern, playful and incredibly tasty. On this particular visit, we thought there were hints of an Easter spice palate (subtle hints of, to further enhance the dishes). Matching wines are wholeheartedly recommended (after all, the restaurant keeps winning awards for the wine list alone!)Staff are incrediblly charming and attentive (without being intrusiveand will happily engage with the customers, from sharing a laugh to answering any question about food or wine. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated and doesnt have a great number of covers, so it feels intimate.Looking forward to our next visit already!
Nice staff, a huge wine list and the chefs signature crab dish was different and very tasty. Enjoyed our meal here. Unfortunately like most of these trype of restaurants the decor inside seems a bit dated.
A bit salty and creamy for me but it was nice. The taste of pine trees leaves mix with scallop make me uncomfortable but I love the monkfish !
Fantastic experience dining here. Staff are genuinely nice and friendly. No sense of "snobbery" eating here or anything. Food very fresh and tasty. Nicely presented. Very good wine list available here. 2 Michelin Stars and priced reasonably
Very fine restaurant hidden in a quiet corner of London. Food and service always impeccable. Very good value for a two-Michelin-starred lunch experience.
Very good food and friendly and helpful service. Would definitely go back. Would recommend booking. Great location and good attention to detail.
A wonderful memorable meal with competent attentive staff with amazing menu. There wasn’t one miss or not memorable dish.
Great food thats refreshing and creative paired with top notch service. The blue cheese really does pack a punch.
Used to be my favourite French restaurant in London. Amazing presentation and creativity. Excellent service and brilliant wine list. But after awarded two start Michelin restaurant, the quality was not as good as before, but still is one of the best you can find in London.
My scoring of The Greenhouse is based on expectations of a two Michelin star restaurant, which is why sadly my ratings are low.The venue is lovely. A calm atmosphere and being secreted away in a mews adds beautifully to the start of the evening. Sadly, in my opinion, that was the end of of my two star experience, the service and food are worthy of no more than one star.On being seated while waiting for our guests we were offered water. I requested still and sparkling. I did not think the waiter had heard so repeated the request twice. Only still arrived! This was the first of numerous niggling front of house errors including serving across patrons which should not be happening. The food (we had their taster menuis good but is not memorable. At these prices, a wow factor or at least something surprising should be forthcoming. There are many better places to eat for the money.
Too be frank, at best (at bestit was quite average... at best.Having said that, restaurant, was modern, sharp, clean cut.. yeah, was nice. Food was a woeful disappointment. Vastly (I mean vastlyover priced. The food was needlessly messed about with, it lacked simple clarity and flavours. Some of the dishes looked, too be frank, quite bike. The colours... so unnatural too food... truly, not good. We are one of their 8-10 courses think it was? It was not possible to eat it. The lack of balance.... after two/three courses could hardly breath. It takes a "class" chef to plan such a comprehensive menu of courses and flavours that at the end of it you say "ooh, had enough thank you"If you read the reviews, mostly from people who do not foot the bill, it is easy to be "bullied" to think this restaurant is great. It is far from great, far from great. At the risk of repeating myself, at best (at bestit is quite average. Fabulous dining environment, staff great but food ridiculously over rated, and over priced.
Food looked amazing but tasted pretty underwhelming for a 2 Michelin star restaurant. The seaweed butter was, on the other hand, AMAZING.The service was commendable during our time, with a 2 year old in tow, they managed the little ones spillage and treated her like a little princess which helped calm her down.
The emperor has no clothes here. Food was dropped twice on our table by the waiter, food looked fancy but tasted fine without more. Nice dining room, but the chef seems content to justify quality based on price.
I was really looking forward to this meal, and especially the wine given its reputation. The wine and service did not disappoint, but the food was shockingly average for a Michelin star restaurant. We went for the Open Table taster menu, and every course was well presented, but not particularly tasty or intelligent. I have to say, compared to restaurants like Hestons Dinner or Gauthier, there is such a huge difference in the quality of food. Perhaps we got unlucky on the day...
I agree with the previous reviewer who called this place pretentious and overbearing. But despite the ridiculous prices for food and wine, we did not take the restaurants ambition and staff too serious and, yes, had quite some fun. Actually the food is excellent and quite imaginative. The wine list has more than ninety pages with wonderful stuff in it. However, the wines below a 100 quid would fit on three pages.
