Trendy bar/eatery at Kirkley Hotel with organic, globally inspired fare, plus a fountain & fire pit.
Gina provided wonderful service. Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere. Food was very good. I had carbonara dish with homemade linguini and husband had burger and wedge salad. Will be returning soon.
Been here the last two Valentines days and it has been amazing each time.
Went there for a Family New Years Eve Dinner .. we were handed a menu with 6 items and told to pick 1 from each course...no vegetarian offering on the menu for a member of my group. We left. The waiter was very apologetic. We went expecting a full menu or at least more than 6 Items. Will not go back.
Poor customer service. We waited a LONG time to get our food and it didnt come out correctly. For the price, I would recommend an alternative location for a good steak and better ambiance.Maybe we caught them on an off night but, unfortunately, we wont be back to find out.
My mom and I went here for dinner and both the food and service were excellent. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the greens were exceptionally freshAn outstanding meal for the price!
I went here for a friends birthday dinner: AMAZING quality food and selection! I did not even know this place existed, but I will be back for celebrations.
I was invited to come to dinner here by an organization that wanted to honor Veterans who were wounded in service. Awesome, right?Below details our experience.Dinner started at 6p. There were several families (approx 40-50 people totaland it didnt take long to recieve our drinks. We ordered our food a few minutes after the drinks arrived. The restaurant provided small paper menus restricting the order options to two salads, three entrees, four side options and a cheesecake desert. For the convenience of our waitress, we circled our orders (adding the way we liked our steaks cookedon the paper menus in an attempt to simplify the process for the kitchen. While service was lovely - the food arrival times were all over the place.Food began to arrive about 30 minutes after the orders were placed. However, our table and one other table (20ish peoplereceived food approximately 1.5 hours after the other tables. My wife asked to speak with the manager. She re-wrote the missing orders to assist the kitchen with resolving the issue. The manager on duty was completely detached from what was happening. Without saying a word, he set $25 gift cards on the table for each couple. No explanation and no further follow up on the meal. The waitress for our table was obviously frustrated with both the kitchen and her management but was very kind to us. She advised us it was her first night on the floor and would also be her last.I was the last person to receive my meal at 8:49pm. I was absolutely ravenous by that point so I cannot tell you whether or not the food was good. I inhaled it. Our table of locals agreed, we would not be coming back and gave away the gift cards for those interested in drinking at the bar.Another fact - I dont know who took the food photos for Google but the plates were not even close, visually, to what is pictured. The salad was lettuce with an oddly flavored oil, no care was taken. There was nothing lovely or ornamental about the entrees. The food was quality, but definitely not beautiful. The desert was a piece of plain cheesecake on a white plate - no whipped cream, fruit or sauce. The photos are deceiving. All in all - to the public- I cannot recommend this restaurant.I will, however, make a recommendation to the owner of this establishment - Fire the manager. He was a middle aged, overweight gentleman who seemed to be an introvert, unable to manage a breakdown between the kitchen and the floor. He also wasnt well versed in communicating with the patrons within the restaurant. Im not sure if the salary is low and he is the best you can find or if he is related to someone in ownership but he is definitely didnt take charge of this disasterous dinning experience. Instead, he left it to the young serving staff, who kept a good attitude inspite of the situation.
Beer flights and good food. We love this place.
The service was VERY slow. The buffet items were slightly over room temp. The hot made to order french toast was very good. The sausage gravy & biscuits were cold.
The complimentary breakfast bar was good. The waitress that worked in the evening was somewhat rude.
Wine Down Tuesday is always nice. Good wine choices and apps.
Wow! What a perfect dinner! The fillet mignon was perfect. Staff incredibly friendly & caring. The chef really rocked all four courses. Desert was chocolate heaven!
Pint Night, tasting with free appetizers and dinner specials. Great food and service. Thanks, Gina
Really nice place with a great atmosphere. Youll get one of the most tender steaks ever here!
The Great Room was the perfect! The food was great, the service was friendly and went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. The atmosphere was amazing and the place looks like Joanna from Fixer Upper designed it! I had a great time and will definitely be returning.
I really enjoyed several of my visits, the food was great, service as well.the overall experience was delightful, the staff knew and experienced the specials so could tell you what to expect rather than say,I’ve served a lot of that and it looks good. My past several visits have been I’d say somewhat disappointing for the same reasons they stood out. Mabe I just visited too much and expected the same experience every time.
Weve been multiple times for their brunch. For $16 you get 3 hot items plus access to the breakfast bar and a number of excellent lunch items. Its on the expensive side for this area and you cant your hot items with you, but the food is fantastic and even the coffee is delicious for hotel coffee.
Love this place! Everyone is very nice, and the food is delicious!
Went for Father’s Day and brunch was exceptional! Atmosphere was also warm and inviting. If Sunday brunches remain this good, I will certainly return. Felt like I was at someone’s home and food was good!
You pay for what you get. Best steak in Lynchburg behind Shoemakers. This restaurant should have 5 stars along with Shoemakers simply because no other can come close to the tranquility of these two. Very professional, beautiful interior, so much potential that it is almost depressing that they cant get on their feet and get people through the door.Jim the Chef is hell to work for. Everytime I have been to this place you hear the wait staff gossiping about how horrible the job is. I even worked here briefly until I left due to family issues. The Cod is so salty you would choke without water. The pizza has potential to be the best in Hill City due to San Marzano tomato sauce, EVOO, and imported ingredients; also a hydroponic indoor SYSTEM!! THE Pizza shouldnt taste like a BREAD BOWL with soup on top.Like I stated earlier, I have always had a big hopes for this place and wanted it to do well. But it just cant catch on.The Hotel Kirkley is amazing, comfy and ambient. The top 3 of hotels in Lynchburg. They have the right ingredients, the right ideas, the right menu, the STEAK melts in your mouth, but they just CAN not execute.Due to the waitresses being so slow, gossiping, and standing there waiting on a tip to shove in their pocket so nobody else sees it, ( partly bc they have to share & usually never make more than 30 a night I have to give this place a 1 due to what I have seen over a course of 5 years. When I worked here I made an average of 20 for 5 hours. The last several ppl I have spoken with that worked here made a little more than that now. Its just like I said, a Story you Wish and Hope to get better but it never does.
The atmosphere is incredibly homey, yet elevated. It is very comfortable and the prices are spot on.
The head chef cooked good food. My family ate Breakfast and Dinner and it was really nice. Food was not overcooked and the side dishes were great. We ordered the following:DinnerChicken wings (BBQ and teriyaki- BBQ sauce was not overpowering and you can ask to separate the BBQ sauce from the chicken. Teriyaki is was sweet and goes well with the ranch.Cod - had a little bite of spice but the saltiness of the cod is balanced with the tomato sauce, white beans and spinach.Ribeye (medium rare- was cooked really well paired with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes which was really light. Mashed potato had some of the skins of the potato included.Chicken breast - hollanday sauce was paired with the chicken which was bitter but it was balanced with the sweet potato slices that comes with it. It also came with lightly sweetened asparagus.Root Beer float - very nice and sweet desert. Topped with vanilla ice cream.Creme brulee - caramelized sugar on top was very thin with very light creamy filling. Came with sliced strawberries and a small bread sticks which complemented the desert really well.Breakfast - was a hybrid buffet and you can order Al a carte for the main its.Pancakes and bacon - very nice fluffs on the pancake but the surface has a little it of crunch tonit. While the bacon was very crispy.Cheese, ham, vegtable omelet (ask to not include the cheese). - was light. It did not need any salt and pepper in my opinion as the ham and vegetables already gave it flavor. It came with two small sausages which was very good.We also want to give complements for our servers:Austin and Star, who were great and we would give them 10 stars if we can as they served us exceedingly well during our visits at the restaurant!
Great food, good place, but horrible service on slow night.
So much delicious food! This is a hidden gem and with a very relaxing environment. Ill be back and next time Ill bring more room!
Very unique place with a fire pit in the middle of the dining room, but it was good. Food was very good and flavorful, a little pricey and the waitress disappeared when we needed condiments and was around a lot when she dropped off the check.
Deliciously, amazing food and drink selections Incredible service! Fantastic Environment! Reasonable prices!
An interesting place with lots of potential! However, a few things of note: we had a wait person who was not very inviting, and hovered while I filled out her tip amount (this was quite awkward). The food was mostly quite good, but even for a salt-lover like me, the cod in a tomato sauce had so much salt, it was unpleasant. I scraped off the salt as best I could, and did let the waitress know, but she didnt offer anything complimentary or reduce the price of the dish on the final bill. Also, the restrooms for the restaurant are not marked, which is odd and not well though out. It seems like this place could be a real hit, but the staff, including the chef, needs improvement.
My husband and I are locals and had heard of the Great Room from some friends. We were so glad we tried it! Excellent food! Very fair prices with a nice, clean homey feel to the ambiance. We had the Crabcake Appetizer (great flavor and dipping sauce- somewhat small though). Then for entrees, we ordered the Blackened Chicken Sanwich and the Manchester Fish and Chips (ya’ll, this was SO tasty- and please keep the authenticity of the mashed peas... you’ll be glad you did!Finished it off with the House Made NY Style Cheesecake and we were “fini”! We will be back for sure! Thanks for a great evening!
Well had dinner with my fiance last night and again tonight. Last night I got the ribeye mash n asparagus meal, and it was by far the best meal Ive had in over a year. Mabey one of the best steak meals Ive ever had from a restaurant. Had cheesecake for desert and it was very good, in fact I wished I had the hole pie. Great service and good atmosphere
I have no idea how this place got 4 stars!!Well I give this place a 2 stars for the fact the inside was nice and staff was very helpful! Also my family enjoyed there steak and fries and they enjoyed their meal. The food was served in a timely matter and appearance looked great! Now the bad! First pricing does match portion sizes! 7.95 for salad with lettuce and dressing is extremely high and amount of lettuce was very small! I had the cod and it was so salty I could not eat it! I basically ate the side item and that was it! I went to Sheetz to eat something for supper! As I write this review I still taste the salt in my mouth! STAY away from the cod unless you love pure salt, because I could not even tell it was a piece of fish!As a fellow Lynchburger I will not return
Great atmosphere, good food and reasonable prices. Excellent service. Will come again!! Great cocktail prices.
Beware of the late menu at 9pm. Showed up at 8pm never got the champagne we ordered. Now its 9:30 when I went to the bar to ask what was up. They said we had to order off the limited late menu. WTH? Leaving. Notice our empty drinks. Worst service in Lynchburg!!! Stay away.
I have had dinner at the Great Room and had a wonderful experience. But whatever you do, do not go to the Sunday Brunch. Small selection and sub-par food. I got a piece of cheesecake that was still frozen when I took a bite of it. When I first walked into the buffet room, there werent even plates to serve myself with. I had to flag down one of their elusive servers just to find a plate. Then I wanted to get soup but there werent any ladles in the bowls. I gave up at this point. Go anywhere but here! Not worth the $17.
Listen, I dont like to give a bad review but this I cant let go. I give this place 2 stars only because the setting was nice, furniture was nice and everything was clean. We went for a Sunday brunch and it was terrible. My first clue should have been no one was in there. Including employees. When we found a waitress she couldnt explain what they had, and we got 2 different prices from 2 different waitresses. The selection was poor, food was cold.No where worth the $16 per person. I dont recommend. I hope they get better.
Great food, excellent service with a smile. Highly recommended.
Had a great experience. We had the barn room to ourselves and had amazing service. Ask for Tyler, he was great!
Loved the ambiance, pumpkin beer with spice rum my favorite
Best breakfast and brunch is even better. Food is always amazing and fresh. I love the muffins and the oatmeal bar. The brunch food never disappoints. This is my favorite place to take out of town visitors. I will say I wish the new servers would learn how to use the tablets.. They often seemed confused on how to place orders and several times I have made a reservation and have literally watched the servers seat another large party at my table. I think they just need a hostess. Other then that everything is great.
Good food & service. One of our favorite spots for a date night or brunch.
Right off the bat the ambience and staff were warm and inviting. I ordered the oven fired pizza; my husband the steak and fries. When it arrived we couldnt help but be disappointed. The pizza was soupy and the steak tasted like it had been frozen. Great staff and in our experience bad food.
They stop serving dinner at 9 pm even though theyre open until 11 pm. Dont let the trip you up like it did us. Brunch is every Sunday from 11 am until 2:30 pm.The food is delicious and the prices are decent. Having flown here from San Francisco (the most expensive place on Earththe prices may be decent to us but not to you. 22$ for a sirloin steak. Do what you will with that. The service is slow and lacking but theyre friendly people. Usually only 2-3 servers. It is not crowded and has tons of space.
What a great place. We stopped for the evening at the Kirkley hotel, and decided to give the Great Room a try. I was shocked there werent more people there. Excellent beer, wine and cocktail selection. Delicious appetizer special. Very fresh ingredients including their own grown lettuce. Simple dishes just exploded with flavor. I was blown away with this place. The hydroponic grow bins for herbs is a great touch. I will stay at the hotel again just to enjoy this place. The Great Room lives up to its name.
Wonderful atmosphere and service! The food is top notch! You definitely want to come here often! Local gem
I lived in Lynchburg for about 4 years now and this is by far one of the best places to eat, if not the best. Top notch food and service. Theyve recently done renovations to the restaurant and it looks amazing.
The Great Room is just what its name says, it is Great. We have been the the better restaurants here and abroad but for atmosphere, guality food, service and over all experience, The Great Room is our favorite. Its emaculate, classic, relaxing atmosphere is something to experience.
It didnt occur to us to try this place previously because it is located inside of a hotel and hotel restaurants sometimes leave little be desired. However, The Great Room is beautifully decorated with cool architectural elements such as a fountain, fire pit, cozy furniture, and interesting artwork and wood trim. The food is fresh and they offer a great selection. My favorite is The Road Warrior, which includes your choice of an appetizer/salad, entree, and dessert for one affordable price. This is one of our favorite date night spots!
Weve been there four or five times and have been pleased every time, with no complaints. An upscale metropolitan atmosphere. The specials are always a pleasant surprise. We are now addicted to the chefs homemade blue cheese dressing. The staff is attentive, but not too bothersome. They are very accommodating with special requests. We have recommended the Great Room to all our friends.
Ribeye was wonderful. Crab cakes were also delicious. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend for everyone to try!
The wings are the bomb. Definitely worth trying it out. Great food and great staff.
What a GEM. We dont live here, but if there was one reason to live in L-burg, it would be to dine here, and dine here often. Fantastic service. Niki is an incredible bartender. Ordered an old-fashioned and a Diesel and whoa-- blew our socks off. Gina is a delightful server-- the perfect balance of personal and professional. And the food--unbelievable-- the presentation and the preparation are amazing. Whoa. PS- get the chocolate parfait, split it (or dont).
