The Great Northern Clocktower - Historical landmark in Spokane, United States
A beautiful and preserved historic clock tower.
Clean city
Great clocktower
Beautiful views of the Great Northern Clocktower, river, and park. Watching at sunset is very enjoyable, as I’m sure it is at all times of day. I love seeing all the geese, and they are very happy to come introduce themselves and ask for a snack. I didn’t have a snack for the geese, but I did enjoy the view with a cookie I’d brought from my hotel. Perfect area any time of day.
Historic landmark and cherished by any decent Spokane native. Usually a few vagrants living at the base of it these days.
Public spaces in Riverfront Park are amazing. Plus, there was nobody there when I was after 11 pm on a weeknight. What a treat!
Nice looking tower, but it did not look like I could go in. Too bad, as I am sure the city could make money off entrance fees.
Lots of sparrows flying around while I was there. Loved it but Im a natural bird watcher without even knowing it. I wish I could spend more time enjoying Spokane it has a wonderful atmosphere.
Fun eclectic hangout.
Amazing brickwork. Great area to walk around. No entrance up tower. YouTube # drivingtohawaii
The only part left of the Great Northern Rail Depot, completed in 1902 is this 155 feet tall, four-sided lock. Once a week, a technician climbs the 5 stories to adjust the time, and wind the crank 99 times to ensure for the next week, it works. Interestingly, the tower has never had bells but relies on a digital speaker system.
Just beautiful
Beautiful!
a historical reminder of Great Northern Railroad Depot
4th July 2019
I am so glad that they kept that part of the old Great Northern Railroad Depot when they prepared for Expo 74. If you are old enough, remember the jumble of railroads, trestles, bridges, depots, warehouses, mills, and other structures obscuring the otherwise beautiful Spokane Galls? Thats all gone except the Clock tower. It reminds us of what made Spokane what it is. Thankfully, we have found more aesthetic and more environmentally friendly ways to accomplish the same things.
This was a very interesting site. I wouldnt travel to Spokane just to see it, but it is worth seeing in conjunction with the falls and the rest of the park.
Located in a beautiful park
An amazing site to see. Always fun to see and be around.
Three clock tower is a beautiful historic monument in Spokane. There are a few stairs to get up to touch the tower, you cannot go inside it.
Love it when they light it up with different colors.
Awesome that the city decided to leave this as a memorial to the railroad industry and a thanks for them donating the land for the 74 Expo! It looks fantastic down here its really cool to see what history used to be in the area even though its long gone Kudos City of Spokane great job
Beautiful park being reconstructed atm. The clock tower is the center piece of Riverfront Park. With a playground and amenities near by :D very memorable place from any Spokanite childhood!
Amazing and historic
Awesome classic clock tower left from the olden days when spokane had a railyard train station at this very spot. Time is accurate. A timeless piece of history still providing towering time.
Probably the most iconic symbol of Spokane, the Great Northern Clocktower is all that remains of the once bustling rail yard that is now Riverfront Park. Remodeled for the 74 Worlds Fair Expo, the clock tower was preserved to remind us of the heritage Spokane has served as a rail town.
