The Grand Egyptian Museum in el hed

Not open yet. On the website it says it is scheduled to open sometime in 2022 between Sept and Nov. I was there Oct 1st. We drove around and around looking for a sign but there was none. My bad, I should of checked the website first before driving around but it was a spur of the moment decision to go there while in the area.

STILL NOT OPEN missed the 100th anniversary of the Tut tomb find which was supposed to be the most recent Target date. But its still 99% complete.Planned a trip based on the ongoing statements it would be open in 2021 in June for December. Not open, and projections are for late this year. According to Cairo Scene Magazine this year, "The highly-anticipated museum is scheduled to open in November 2022" Projected for 11/4/22 100th anniversary of the Tut discovery by Carter. 4/2 the President is PUSHING them to get it done. Still 1% shortThey havent hit a projection date yet. If your trip to this museum is a cornerstone of your trip DO NOT BOOK till they actually announce an opening date; and book 3 months later. This has been ready to open for what 5 years now? It may well be the best thing since sliced bread, and I hope it is. BUT NOT IF THEY CAN"T OPEN IT. Any review of the actual museum is pretty much speculation. Maybe February 2023?

Even though it has it listed as opened in 2022 it has not. Absolutely stupid that if you google GEM it is listed as opened.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM; Arabic: المتحف المصرى الكبير al-Matḥaf al-Maṣriyy al-Kabīr), also known as the Giza Museum, is an archaeological museum under construction in Giza, Egypt. When inaugurated, the GEM will be the largest archaeological museum in the world. It will house artifacts of ancient Egypt, including the complete Tutankhamun collection; many pieces will be displayed for the first time. The museum is sited on a plot of land of about 480,000 square metres (5,200,000 sq ft) approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 milesfrom the Giza pyramid complex and is part of a new master plan for the Giza Plateau called Giza 2030.

Architecturally a disaster. The artefacts become decoration and are visually completely overwhelmed by this monster structure. A missed opportunity to give great art a worthy home.

Not yet been, but seen a lots of plans, photos, information and TV- program. It will be absolutely best ever Museum in Egypt. Modern, high quality showrooms, shops and nearhood of Giza pyramid
