The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Silver Lake

The MOCA Geffen has 1-3 large scale exhibitions at a time and is definitely worth a visit for modern installation art and thematic exhibitions.Theres plenty of parking tickets for some prime events can sell out quickly even for members.

Spacious, plenty open parking, modernized, clean, and visually pleasing. It is worth visiting for anyone, especially visual art connoisseur like me. Nice attraction spot for a fun & explorative date with your boyfriend/girlfriend. Make sure to take cute pictures here for the Grams! 🤩😉

Contemporary and modern art museum. Was in between exhibitions, so there was only a few things to see - but the entry was free, so we cannot complain.

Short and sweet. I feel like I dont tend to enjoy browsing museums for a long time so I liked how there was just a small amount of things to look at here. The bathroom was pretty clean as well.

Truly a unique experience. I sat in "the apartment" for a solid hour just soaking in the audio visual compositions. Its something Id highly recommend if youre in the area.

The free admission portion of the museum is fairly underwhelming in my view - only a handful of exhibits. The paid portion may be more extensive and engaging - we did not visit that section. Additionally, the museum is located in one of the more grimy and rundown portions of the downtown area - and thats saying something. If youre visiting just one contemporary art museum in LA, I would recommend The Broad.

Ive never seen a bad exhibit here.

The employees are respectful and welcoming. The Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor is a psychedelic-like exhibition that is worth visiting. It’s interactive and beautiful!

This museum always has some modern and unique art on display. I would say it’s a medium sized museum. Right next to little Tokyo. Other museums are just across the street too.

Always a great spot to check out in LA. They put in very beautiful unique shoes that are not to be missed

One of my very favorite art museums in Los Angeles. Everything is so well done and there is so much to see and for those that are into pictures of any type this is a great place for you to visit. The artists are always changing but every time I stop and it is very well done and organized and I have only received positive feedback from those that I’ve been with. It’s hard to say what my favorite part was this time, maybe walking through the light bulbs that looked like rain, or the miniature TV in the floor, or the giant size living room and remote control with a interactive TV. Parking is available on site and they have a great gift shop in the corner near the entrance. I highly recommend to anyone.

The Pipilotti Rist exhibition is FANTASTIC. What a delight!!

Well worth a visit. The current exhibit from Barbara Kruger is immersive and "alive". There is motion and color everywhere. Little treats are hiding all over if you look. According to staff - this took over 2 years to set up (exacerbated by the pandemic). You need to make reservations online and show proof of vaccination.

This place was weird. I only gave it 3 stars because the art gave me mixed feelings.

The new Pipilotti Rist exhibit is absolutely the most immersive art installation Ive experienced. All your senses will be stimulated. A definite must-see exhibit.

The museum that established modern art in LA. Hard to believe, but there was no dedicated museum to modern art in Los Angeles until this was founded. I was an initial contributor and have been a member since. I am so proud of MOCA and my city. This location was established as a temporary museum (The Temporary Contemporary), while the building by Arata Isozaki was being built on Grand Ave. This repurposed Police garage however, proved so popular, (because of the laid- back atmospherethat it was given permanent status.

Roy Lichtenstein is one of my favorites. So it was a joy to see so many of his pieces close up. I also enjoyed Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Kara Walker, Glenn Ligon and a host of others. I especially like a piece by Cecily Brown.

I really enjoy this place. Staff is very knowledgeable, mostly practicing artists who are quite willing to talk about what they do.

Definitely not what I was expecting. Spent almost three hours there. Just riveting exhibits and Ill definitely go back. Know the art is not everyones taste but I dug it

Great visit. Some really cool works up right now. Fell in love with some paintings and prints below. A great visit but kind of in the middle of nowhere.

The Geffen has some interesting installations and artwork. Its part of the MOCA, so I was happy to see these two museums in a day for $15 usd (includes both). I think thats very reasonable for the amount of work you get to see. Its also nice to walk across town through Little Tokyo to get the other museum.The Moca was a little less interesting. There was not as much to see. However, its still worth the trip.

I visited the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA with the ticket that I purchased at the MOCA, very appreciated. It has a lot of art to see, I loved the long drawing, I took a video of it. Wonderful.

Its ok. I guess I would say just get a memberships. Its hit and miss for me.

Pretty pricey but nice place. Students are 8 dollars and young children are free.

Lovely collection on display. I enjoyed my visit and the collections and pieces on display. At the time I went, many of the works on display were political in nature. Im good with political but at some point it just becomes too much and begins to cross the line into creative propaganda.

Temporary Contemporary as it was known before (I imagineGeffen gave money. As with modern art some seems kooky. They have some nice pieces and some head scratchers.

I liked the first building more from moca. Didnt really see anything here I found particularly noteworthy

Nice place. Im looking forward to when the construction is done. The book fair here is pretty fun, especially for the kiddos.

Great artistic exhibits hosted in the center of Little Tokyo. I spontaneously stumbled upon an exhibit hosted here after lunch in Little Tokyo. The staff told me that the tickets were free for the day. We were very lucky to see the beautiful creations of art inside. The building exterior also offers a great backdrop for creative photo shoots.

The art is really cool and Im glad I went, but for a building that size, the amount of art felt little. They could have definitely used the space better to add more. I finished the entire wall around and observed every image in about 20 minutes.. and yes I take the time to observe images. I dont just scroll through like an Instagram post.

Paid $8 admission with a Student ID. On a rainy Wednesday afternoon the museum was very quiet and peaceful with few visitors. Two artists were featured in the exhibits I saw. This I appreciated, as it gives one a fuller picture of the artists style, interests, and thoughts. Also, for those who use public transportation, its easily accessible via the metro gold line.

Rear rotating exhibits here . Now that I’m a member will definitely be visiting all three locations.

Beautiful exhibits, its fascinating to see the art blended into such a architecture. The building is so old and well build. Like a old warehouse, weather proof, like military bunker.

This museum was really nice, very simplistic so that you can focus on the work from the different artists. I liked that there were a bunch of people who worked for the museum who were there to help you if you had questions or to show you interesting aspects of the art work as well as talking about it with you in depth.

Wonderful museum. The artists represented were inspiring. The staff was available to answer questions whenever information was needed. The museums flow and curation has a beautiful movement, each exhibit seems to be presented in the most appropriate space. Thankful for the powerful relevance of the artists work. Great outdoor area to enjoy. Only suggestion would be that the entrance was hard to find from the sidewalk. Maybe even using better signage to direct pedestrians around to enter through the parking lot might help. First time visiting during their free weekend event. Excited to make a return visit!

There is always something amazing and so different from the traditional museum.

Its a bit small. The main branch of MOCA has more to see. However, its nice to walk around that neiborhood. Little Tokyo is literally across the street.

The Geffen is a must see when visiting Los Angeles. I believe the exhibits change every so often, and the artist decides what to show.

One of the best places to see great art. Always interesting.

For those who like contemporary art, it is a nice place to chill for a little, especially on Thursday when after 5pm it is free but donations are welcome. I personally am not a huge fan of contemporary art, as I went there for a Japanese tea tasting, but In would recommend it to those who enjoy a contemporary art museum.

Awesome place. A great warehouse/ campus for temp exhibits. Saw Electric Earth, very friendly service and good presentation.

A great space to explore and open your senses with distinct exhibitions. Well done showcase art in a unique industrial setting. Worth the trip with the main MOCA near by.

It is a nice space, although smaller than I initially imagined, which is not always a bad thing. I found the space light, airy and manageable. There is a huge main room with a smaller offshoot room and a separate section if you cross the reception area. The staff are helpful and friendly and the collections interesting and varied.Take time to sit outside and enjoy the sculpture and space, as well as visit the shop which is full of visual delights and easy to part with cash there.

Museum of Contemporary Art is awesome! Me and my husband stopped by in this museum and we really had fun watching their art collections they are really interesting and impressive. Actually that was our first time to visit the museum but we never regret it because it was never boring. The only problem is the parking area but once you get to the inside of the museum you will forget the parking hassle.
