Inventive, eclectic vegetarian and vegan food in a high-ceilinged room with light-wood furnishings.
Very tasty vegetarian food. Went for dinner before a show at the Apollo just around the corner. The starters and mains are definitely worth a visit. Only giving it a 4* as we ordered 6 dishes and the side dish was just OK, the Cannoli was slightly over baked / too thick, so 4 out of the 6 were awesome. You won’t miss that there’s no meat!
Beautifully presented, tasty food with good portion sizes. Someone else said it could be more flavourful - I suppose I agree but then again it’s nice to have something that’s *not* overly rich and fatty/salty for a change, and instead a bit milder and “cleaner” tasting. Staff were lovely and polite, and the interior is nice and cozy, tucked away and exclusive feeling.
Ive just had another lovely lunch in this place. The aubergine and artichokes sharers plates with polenta chips. Yummy! My friends had the gnocchi and Kitsu carry and the enjoyed their dishes too.Im not a vegan or vegetarian but I loved the food here. I had an aubergine dish and my friend had Kitsu curry, for starters we had tomato salad and polenta chips. All 4 dishes were delicious and the bill with 3 beers came to a very reasonable £72. In addition we sat in the garden which was great on a warm summer day and the staff was attentive and pleasant. The only thing I didnt like was the chairs were uncomfortable. Still, highly recommended!
Great vegetarian options. Quite tasty. Good ambience.
Really brilliant. Flavoursome food and great staff. Highly recommend a vis. The aubergine with miso is genius.
It was a lovely experience overall! Awesome food and very cute presentation!
The food was ok, but quite frankly, I have had much better vegetarian food. The dishes we had were full of carbohydrates and fat, but hardly any vegetables. I had the impression they were designed to make meat eaters happy rather than for true vegetarians. The room is very noisy, too loud for a nice conversation. Probably nicer in the summer when you can sit outside.
Me and my husband love this restaurant! The food is always amazing, and the team that work there equally so.We actually decided to have our wedding meal here after our ceremony, and I’m so glad we did! The staff were fantastic and were so communicative and positive throughout, nothing felt too big or too small a request. Everything felt super easy and well organised, and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful. We had a mix of vegan / vegetarian / meat eating guests, and absolutely everyone said how amazing the food was.Just wanted to say a huge thank you and how much we appreciate all their effort into making our celebrations and special as possible!
The problem here was not the menu, vibe or food but the service!! Three people travelled from Texas, one from Brighton, 3 out of 4 vegans who specifically chose this place. We waited 20 minutes with empty glasses for water. We requested 2 separate checks for 2 couples. We waited 15 minutes for our bills, as we watched our server walk right past our table and have a long conversation with another guest. It was not busy. When we finally got our bill it was not split into 2, but 4! It seems clear to me than when 12.5% discretionary service fee is added, there is no incentive for the waitstaff to care about their guests. As I also work in the hospitality industry, I always overtip, but not this time. We even had a reservation. Gate, dear? Not again. What was supposed to be a 22 year reunion left a bitter taste.
Beautiful and delicious vegetarian and vegan food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. We found them by accident, and they managed to squeeze us in without a booking and get our food out before a theatre show.
Delicious vegetarian food, imaginatively constructed dishes that look and taste fabulous. Cool, chic and down-to-earth decor with a natural feel. Very authentic service from people who believe in the restaurant.
There was this young waitress, who was a trainee furthermore. I witnessed her do majority of the service across the whole floor, and even though she seemed a bit stressed, she did deliver great customer service! I wanted to give her a tip specifically but she told me that new employees (for whatever unethical reason it isdon’t get tips?! I was flabbergasted, because seeing her do pretty much all of the service by herself, it seems as if they’ve taken all the tips she earned and it’s gone into their pockets. As a vegan restaurant it’s just a bit ironic that they have an unethical approach towards trainees. And her supervisor seemed embarrassed and a tad jealous that other tables wanted to give her tips as well, that she shouted across the bar ‘we all get tips’ but it was so obviously clear that she was lying and was trying to save face. No matter how good the food was, personally for me, seeing staff being treated like how I saw that day, specifically by the supervisor, it deserves one star - which only belongs to the young trainee.
5 stars from 2 carnivores for your inventive vegan cuisine. We came with a Time Out voucher (which The Gate was wiling to extend by a couple of weeks after I hadnt paid attention to the original expiry datebut we will certainly be back as full paying diners. The service was lovely and attentive and the food was delicious. Make sure to order the polenta fries and the tomato salad with vegan feta. They also got a very nice walled in garden, perfect for warm summer dinners. PS: Apologies for forgetting to take the brownie home...Im sure we missed out on a tasty dessert.
What a lovely find in the heart of Hammersmith! I googled for a Vegan restaurant in or near Hammersmith and found this gem nestled in between residential apartments with a delightful, leafy outside patio and a large open dining area with airconditioning upstairs! On Friday 19th Aug, I took my daughter and neice for a lunch ( yes, it was definitely lunchand thoroughly enjoyed our meal which was served by Ian. We had the Dragon salad, BBQ burger, Katsu curry as our main course as well as polenta chips, Steamed bun & rounded off with sticky toffee for desert. yummm! We were provided with an alle carte menu as well as a lunch special menu for the day. we chose from the lunch special menu. However, when I got home I checked the bill and we were charged from the alle carte menu and not the lunch special which is not very nice of them and I question why give us the lunch special menu if you are going to charge us fully. Its not as if they were very busy as we were the only ladies there upstairs over that lunch period. Its really a shame that I will question going there again as this subterfuge/mistake is stuck in my mind now.If not for this incident, I would have given them a 5 star rating 😏
What an amazing little restaurant! We stumbled on this place almost by accident when looking for somewhere near the Apollo and we are blown away by the food and drink on offer. Theres a lovely little outside area and a great high ceiling indoor as well. The service is friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. Completely recommend it
Sat out in the courtyard to have a meal with my daughter. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The starter and main meal were very good and tasty. I do not live in the Hammersmith area we had been to see Sister Act at nearby theatre. The Gate was so close to the venue it was good to have a meal there in pleasant surroundings and rounded off a wonderful day for us.
I’ve been to The Gate several times and it used to be my favourite restaurant. Last night the faux grass was inedible, it was too salty. The gnocchi was not gnocchi and again quite salty, and the pickled artichokes on top didn’t go well with it. The only good part of the meal was the fried courgette flower. Didn’t wanna risk getting dessert. Service was super slow too
Food is absolutely delicious, and its literally just round the corner from the eventim Apollo theatre, so great for before or after meals, friendly staff and prices reasonable. Would highly recommend.
Really good food, good combinations especially beetroot and avocado.. the cordon blue made from aubergine is not bad
I dont understand the hype at all. The atmosphere is nice, foods are fresh and beautiful, BUT there is no flavour at all. We had the Gnocchi, Green Dragon Salad and Roasted Cauliflower. Everything tasted like plain vegetables. No chili, onions, herbs or other tasty ingredients or spices were used. We are used to eating a plant-based diet and this was one of the worst experiences. Drinks were good though.
very nice place, all vegan. Everything was tasty and elaborate, + the staff was nice. We had a good moment there. They have an outside terrace.
Amazing food, terrible service. We visited last night (Monday evening), the place was fairly busy and were seated at the back of the restaurant. We ordered two mains and two sides. The mains took about 40mins to come with the sides arriving 10mins afterwards (we had to physically get up and ask where the sides were as staff were not attentive due to clearly being understaffed and rushing around). During this time as well we asked for some more water and some ketchup for the delicious polenta chips but neither of these came. For the price you pay for the food, you expect better service and a slightly more relaxed feel to the whole experience. Would like to go again but they need more staff and more organisation with who covers which areas. As a result of the service we skipped the dessert and got up again to get the bill as no one was covering our table
I enjoyed my food, and the waiter was really attentive and helpful. However the portions were smaller and werent quite as well presented as at The Gate Marylebone. I understand that it is probably due to demand, and I definitely enjoyed my meal none the less.
Reasonable vegetarian fare, but nothing too exciting or interesting, good location and decent ambiance, food fresh
Really lovely vegan place with very friendly staff, good service and good menu. The best dishes were the courgette flower and tortilla dish. The Boa was tasty as well. The aubergine and Katsu curry need more seasoning and flavour. I think if the chef and a little more intensity in flavours the dishes could be elevated. Overall a good restaurant. Finish of with a pleasant walk by the river. Please be mindful that parking around this area is for 2h only hence try to park in a side road om Fulham Palace Road and then walk to the restaurant.
Honestly, not great. The staff were lovely and very amenable, but the seating was way *too close* together. It felt like a cafeteria, with seats 5cm next to each other packed in the one room. I felt I could hear the table next to us breathing we were that close. The adjacent party eventually asked to move which makes me think we werent the only one who found the place way too packed. The food was nice, not bad but not particularly good for the price. The lighting was also rather glaring. If its a dinner occasion, I feel the lights could be a little softer rather than the glaring lights they use that approximate the feeling of a hospital examination ...
Very tasty vegetarian food, beautifully presented. Not the easiest place to find being tucked away behind the Temple Lodge Club but very comfortable, airy first floor dining room. If you like vegetarian food your perseverance in locating this establishment will be rewarded.
Loved the food and the concept. Lovely place and staff. Can’t wait to return
I found this place from reading food blogs about top vegetarian restaurants in London. I came with a group of six. I booked in advance. The service was excellent. I think I had the best vegetarian food ever. Food presentation was also very fine. Even though I am not vegetarian, the food was so good, I would like to come back. I highly recommend. I got the tortillas, they were amazing.
Updated as of May 2018The food tastes amazing especially being entirely vegetarian it still hits the spot, the food they offer is seasonal so if you come at different times of the year youll get a different menu which I think is a great idea. As well as the food being great the staff are friendly and polite. The service of the food could improve as it does take a little long to come out however you wont be disappointed with the food. It is located on the side of the Hammersmith Apollo, so you may need try and find it. I highly recommend The Gate. The service has definitely improved the food comes out a lot quicker but I do think thats also to do with the fact you have to vacate your table within 2 hours however. The food is still perfection.
Its a real hidden gem! Literally and food wise. If not my friend who knows this restaurant well I would never be able to find it just passing by the building. This is a vegetarian restaurant one if the bests I have tried! We had such a nice, flavourful food, the coliflower fritters and jackfruit taco followed by the Thai carry served on a banana leaf and the beatroot burger with the polenta cheeps were all such a treat. All portions were very generous. We also tried the deserts : chocolate mousse and a raspberry millefeuille which were delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere and lovely service. We will certainly be back.
Love it!! Such a lovely place, lovely vibes, lovely staff!! Food amazing!! Completely forgot there was no meat! Will be coming back! Photo includes the following dishes: bottom left- tortillas, top left- aubergine schnitzel, top right- Thai red curry, bottom right- plantain starter. Do note that to access this restaurant you need to go up one flight of stairs which are a bit small. But omg love this place!
Picked various dishes from the a la carte menu. Food was well presented, tasted lovely with all the flavours and was a good portion size. Dessert could be improved. Would recommend coming to this restaurant to try the food and have a enjoyable experience.
I had an absolutely delicious vegan meal. The food was incredible, great options, very good service and lovely atmosphere. Not expensive for the quality of food we received.
Nice garden. Taste is good. Rissotto over cooked. Compare to the price should provide better quality of dishes.
Unbelievable food. The flavours were incredible. Presentation was perfect. Will be definitely recommending this play. We got the korean cauliflower and arancini for starters. The tagine and risotto for dinner. Not your normal risotto!!
We had a fantastic evening at The Gate; the food was incredible - fine vegan dining at its best - , the staff is so lovely and welcoming and the restaurant feels so warm and cosy. Thank you and our compliments to the chef; each dish was so well presented and bursting with flavours. We will be back for sure !
Nice & Chilled ambiance...The food is just exceptional. No more meat for us anymore. If you want to try VEGEN...this is the place.
Very nicely presented plant.based meals and drinksThe dragon roll was delicious, as was the tofu. The baked aubergine was well.made and the eaten mess desert great. The mango.cheesecake was not.very good, pretty flavourless. However I would definalty return.
The atmosphere and food here were both awesome. Delicious vegan food in a relaxing atmosphere. The staff were also really friendly and helpful.
This is our to go place everytime a vegetarian friend comes in town. It is quiet, cute and we enjoy the food a lot. I recommend the curry, the tagine and the ravioli, on that order but I havent had everything in the menu so there is more to discover.
The place is not exactly easy to spot but is a real hidden gem! Was very quiet but we liked that and so the service was 5* from the friendly and welcoming wait staff. The food was so amazingly presented and was as delicious as it was beautiful. Would definitely recommend this restaurant even if youre not a vegetarian like me!
Really lovely food - great sharing options and a beautiful space (very light and airy). It’s great these guys are giving a good local option to vegans and vegetarians living in the area. Only reason why not 5 stars was because service was slow.
Been meaning to go here for years and it did not disappoint! Beautifully simple, loft like space, that feels like a secret gem. The staff and service were incredible and they accommodated our large group and varied dietary needs with ease and minimum fuss. The food was spectacular and even the biggest meat eaters amongst us were raving about it. Cannot wait to return!
We had a great dinner at The Gate. The location and interior fit the vibe of the restaurant really well. We had 3 starters and a main to share. Highly recommend the aubergine as a starter and the risotto cake for main. But the crispy tofu, polenta fries and arancini truffle balls were also wonderful. To finish it off we had a tiramisu which also hit the spot! If youre thinking about going, make a reservation. This was the best food weve had in a while. Everything either vegetarian or vegan, so indulge!Follow hongry_food & moniques_table for more delicious food inspiration
What a surprise to find a such good vegetarian restaurant in central London. We went for quick Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday without booking, but the host was very helpful to get us a table. The food were amazingly tasty... Three of us all enjoyed our order and satisfied...Dont forget to order desserts, I love vegetarian cheese cake!
I should be clear I liked this place. The staff were very helpful and managed to squeeze in a place for the three of us without a booking on a Friday night. Decor was fine, and the waiting staff were equally helpful during the mealThe food was tasty, I had the aubergine and my partner had the tofu salad. There was nothing about them which was explosive with taste, and made me feel justified paying what we did. The portions were smallish too, especially the amount of tofu considering its so cheap. The deserts though, are amazing. The chocolate snowball was dynamite.Id come back here for food more regularly if it was a bit cheaper, otherwise I would come here for desert after going somewhere else.
Amazing food!! Great selection of vegan food and very good portions. Miso aubergine starter is fantastic, will definitely be returning soon!
Favourite vegetarian restaurant in London! Beetroot burger - such a great replacement to meat... Got my usual eggplant. Green curry was slightly bland that day... Mushroom risotto was a surprise! Highly recommend reservation as the place is not very spacious...
Great food and brilliant service. Staff were really attentive. Food was fresh and tasty. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere too. Id definitely come back!
