204 Calle Norzagaray, San Juan, 00901, Puerto Rico, San Juan
Set a hill overlooking the Atlantic coast, this art-filled boutique hotel in a Spanish Colonial mansion is a 6-minute walk from both the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista and Castillo San Cristóbal. The old-world, TV-free rooms are individually decorated, and offer antique details and unique artwork, plus with free Wi-Fi. Some add sitting areas and/or balconies or patios.Continental breakfast is complimentary. There's also a restaurant with terrace seating. Other amenities include a garden, an outdoor pool with a fountain, and a rooftop deck featuring ocean views.
"Magical" is a word that cannot be overused when describing this hotel, but is also somehow insufficient to convey the feeling you will have when staying here. The property is a labyrinth of beautiful old architecture, twisting stairways, endless corridors, stunning alcoves, gardens, brick patios, and inviting seating areas. It is absolutely filled to the brim with greenery, sculpture, portraits, water features, and, amazingly, pianos tucked into every corner and crevice. Not to mention the menagerie of birds that call The Gallery Inn home! Campeche in particular can often be found perched beside the reception desk, and he and Rembrandt are likely to make nightly appearances downstairs at The Cannon Club Restaurant and Piano Bar with Campeche dancing on the grand piano to the live jazz being played. No two rooms are alike in this composite of six interiorly connected historical buildings, and each is a unique treasure and a delight. I stayed first in a Colonial room with two balconies overlooking La Perla and the sea, and then in the grandiose San Sebastian room with no less than THREE balconies overlooking the street of the same name, a piano outside each of the two entry doors, and one inside the actual room. The impossibly high ceilings, massive four poster bed, sumptuous linens (I think I counted 18 pillows in the roomand beautiful tiled floors combined to a luxurious fairytale effect. The Gallery Inn is a truly magical realm of beauty, comfort, and endless photo worthy sights. I will stay here every single time I visit Old San Juan.
Stayed June 6th thru 11th. Was supposed to stay till the 13th. Old San Juan is small so all the hotels there are close to everything. Greeted by "Pablo". Definition of grumpy and unhappy. Art and plants everywhere. Interesting at first, scary later on. Rooms and property are in need of serious updating and repairs. Mold and other issues. Room was good, bathroom had mold, terrace was very nice but the view was of another building across the street. Was supposed to have a kitchen, which consisted of a sink, refrigerator which was unusable due to frost. Took three days and wet towels on the floor to thaw out to close the door. No cooking area, counter removed and plywood laid across the unusable cabinets. Never watered plants on terrace, lots of dead leaves..I tried to water with the hose on the terrace. Floor leaked into downstairs. Pools is best described as a fountain. No area to lay out or pools chairs. Hotel does not have pools towels. Decided to leave early as Old San Juan had been covered and the hotel is not very presentable.
This is an absolute special experience. The hotel is made up of several old buildings. By old I mean centuries-old. The decor is a mix of Spanish furniture and artwork that is made by the owner as well as collections by other artists. For people looking for televisions and room service this is not the hotel for you if you are looking for a unique beautiful hotel that is unlike any other it is perfect. And for couples it is extremely romanticUPDATE: I am happy to report that they have been working hard on renovations and the owners granddaughter is helping in making sure this beautiful treasure continues to be magic.
Rooms were not clean at all. We lost water for a whole day. Towels were in rough shape. The only good thing was the location no breakfast was provided even when it was included in the price.
I came to this Inn as part of a music festival (Puerto Rico Piano and Stringsand the vibe is amazing, like what I would imagine Puerto Rico as. The parrots are charming, service was great, and the Piano there was a more authentic model, which was nice to play on. 5/5, will return if I have the chance
Funkiest hotel Ive ever been at! Interesting artwork is everywhere and the architecture is crazy. Regarding what matters most at a hotel: my bed and room were clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. It was a great home base to explore Old San Juan on foot. I would absolutely stay here again!
AWFUL! Do not go unless you want a dirty, humid, and unmaintained place.Website says check in from 9am, but wasn’t allowed to check in until 3pm.All towels had yellow stains, asked for replacement and got another one with suspicious lipstick on it.The bathroom is extremely dirty. The shower head was not functioning well, no warm water. The pool is not for swimming. Nothing looks like the pictures but way more stale. The worst place ever stayed!0 of 10!A total waste of money!
The hotel had a nice bar which was pretty cool. The hotel was very hit or miss. Sofia was very helpful. My initial room was being worked on so I had to move around a bit. I also wanted an upgrade to high backfired with noise on the street and the bars. The initial room we had book was probably the best. It felt very historic. There was a lot of wood to fix some discrepancies.
From booking to checking out this was a wonderful place. The staff is amazing and always willing to assist in making your stay memorable and as comfortable as they possibly can. Before we arrived for our birthday vacation I contacted the guest services and had a few special requests and they worked with me to get them taken care of. Our suite was gorgeous and the view, there are not enough words to describe it. Thank you to Nadia, Sophia Leanne and all of the wonderful staff at The Gallery Inn. A special thank you to Edwardo who provided not only security but also assistance with parking. This is not a place for everyone, if you love history and classic old world design. If you like the idea of sleeping in a place that has a story in every nook and sings loudly of tradition then this is the place for you. There are no elevators so if you have physical limitations that keep you from climbing stairs then you may want to reconsider this property. If you are looking for “shiny and new”you should definitely reconsider. There are no TV’s in the rooms either. But if you love art, music, history and have a open mind then this is the place for you… I promise you will fall in love… the cherry on top is the beautiful garden and sitting areas and the birds are a huge part of the uniqueness that is The Gallery Inn. Kudos to the owner Jan for creating an environment that takes you back in time and allows you to truly embrace Old San Juan in all its glory.
If youre looking for luxury, amenities, or a modern feel of cleanliness and upkeep, this isnt the place. Upon check-in, I asked a few questions about Jan considering I decided to do a great deal of reading and her story is great. The staff informed us that "This is her home first and a hotel second".We stayed in "Jonathan" and to access the room, you have to climb three flights of stairs including a very steep and narrow spiral staircase. The water pressure is very low, the rooms are filled with random lamps everywhere for lighting, the air conditioning unit position blows directly on your face since it sits right above the bed. There was a urine smell in the bathroom that made showering difficult. This would be a great place to visit during the day - not to stay overnight depending on your expectations. However, you can not visit without stay by the current policies of the hotel. It had great character, art, and was a hidden gem with access to National Parks and restaurants.
If you’re looking for the Ritz Carlton no point coming here but this hotel was quaint, interesting, historical, and one of a kind. If you’re looking for plush and looking to be waited on hand and foot then this isn’t the right place. It was within walking distance of many restaurants and bars, as well as tourist attractions. The restaurant offered at the location was very good although a bit over priced. If you’re looking for a small quiet hidden get away with a ton of character and don’t mind the lack of amenities then this is a great stop.
This is quite an interesting hotel! My husband and I booked an "Artist Room" as that was the only option available for our dates, and we stayed in the "Brown Room." Our room was fairly accessible, located only a few steps from ground level near the front desk. That cannot be said for many rooms on the property- Some rooms are accessible only via steep stairs/ spiral stairs. Our room was small, as expected, and windowless. The slatted door was surprising to us, but made sense due to the lack of windows. The bathroom was located in the room, but up a small set of stairs and was tight- not much room for toiletries. The AC in the room was great- The room temperature was well regulated the whole time. The bathroom was not well ventilated, and did get fairly sticky- The door to the bathroom didnt close all the way, probably due to the wood swelling, so we didnt have much privacy...I would caution light sleepers before booking this hotel- Our room, while internal and windowless, was loud due to the neighboring room and their guests. We could hear every conversation in the lobby and the screaming of the kids in the room next to us until well into the night. The hotel is old and funky, but was comfortable and generally clean. Due to the open-air nature of the hotel, there was some dirt on the floors/ in the room, but I am very sensitive to dust and mold and was totally fine in this hotel, which is rare. The location is unbeatable and the views from the rooftop are very unique.
A true 5 star. The Gallery Inn is a true gem within Old San Juan. We stayed in the family suite with another couple. The rooms had comfortable beds, the art was beautiful, and the roof top patio had amazing views of the ocean and the city. The pool isn’t your traditional swimming pool and instead an artistic wading pool. The outdoor areas were covered in vegetation and well maintained. The attached restaurant had the best food we had our entire trip and the staff was friendly. I hope to return here again and I would highly recommend.
Very lovely place! Carmen was extremely helpful and kind getting us checked in and out, situated parking, and answering all of my many questions. There are beautiful gardens and terraces alll throughout this place. There is historic statues and art everywhere. The history behind this place is very interesting! They even have birds that roam freely on the terraces. The rooms are very basic, no access to refrigerators, microwaves or that sort of thing just FYI. It was very nice to stay here for 1 night as we didn’t need any of those amenities. They did have hot running water unlike some of the other places we stayed. This is a lovely place and I would definitely stay here again.
Go for the great art, parrots, architectural features. Not the functionality of the hot water heater, "breakfast" buffet, or lack of sound proofing.
As someone who prefers modern hotels, I highly recommend staying here at least 1 night to check it out!The Gallery Inn seemed so unique and gorgeous from the pictures and various videos on Youtube that we decided to try it, and it was well worth the experience. The courtyards were breathtaking! Full of plants, sculptures, paintings, and plenty of seating for a relaxing morning or afternoon. We couldn’t stop taking pictures. Hot coffee in one of the courtyards was one of my favorite moments. There were also larger birds that were fun to see! I think their names are Rembrandt, Mikey, and can’t remember the last one. Other birds would also frequent the courtyards. There was a piano in one of the common spaces that was fun to play. The rooftop was also spectacular! 360 view of the old town, San Juan, El Yunque in the distance, and the ocean. The pool among the ruins was cool to see, especially with the pleasant courtyard above with plenty of seating and the attachment to the Cannon Club.Lots to explore and enjoy here!We stayed in a Vista room, which ended up being the one right by the entrance gate. Initially, the room made us feel a bit weird, like we were staying in a historic museum home. We didn’t sit in the furniture (sorry!bc they looked too old and dusty, but the bed was clean and comfy. The bathroom was a bit small, but also pretty clean. We also had these wooden doors that had small sections that acted as windows if pulled open. The doors could be barred with wooden planks to lock shut from the outside. These doors opened up to a balcony with a view of La Perla and the ocean. Waking up to the ocean view and sound of the waves with a nice breeze was stunning.Wifi in the room was pretty spotty, but sufficed when standing close to the balcony. There was loud music coming from La Perla until 1.30am ish on a Wednesday night, so definitely bring ear plugs, which make the sound tolerable. Otherwise I recommend staying in a Colonial room, which faces in a courtyard (where we couldn’t rly hear the music), or maybe get placed in one of the rooms that faces into the town (might still have noise from clubs and bars).I’m not sure if I would stay again because the style of the rooms doesn’t suit me, and the noise of La Perla was unbearable without earplugs. Maybe I would try a Colonial room again if I were to revisit PR.Another note is that you can see the live music, swimming pool, above courtyard, and a little bit of the common spaces just by visiting the Cannon Club (vs. staying at the inn), There is a locked gate separating the rooms in The Gallery Inn for extra security that guests will have the passcode for. The front gate is also locked by code for added security.Hopefully this helps someone in the future with their plans!Overall, the courtyards, the birds, the live music, greenery, rooftop, morning coffee, unique swimming pool, staff, and history of The Gallery Inn was just amazing. Experiencing all of these things was idyllic and worth the few caveats I mentioned above. I enjoyed my stay!
What an amazing place! I grew up in San Juan but this was my first time after 35 years staying in this hotel and the experience was phenomenal. From the pool, the interiors, the piano bar, the art by Jan the owner and others, and the customer service overall. I will be back in a heart beat. 5 stars!
Criminal that I didnt take more pictures of this beautiful hotel. Very historic and the owner keeps true to the soul of this place and keeps it looking great. The staff is great, theres a nice bar downstairs with great cocktails (didnt get a chance to eat), and the overall ambience of this hotel is amazing.
The Gallery Inn Hotel is built on character and class. Everything in between the downstairs restaurant (Canon Clubto the rooftop lounge is wonderful. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. The restaurant has live music daily performed by local musicians. The halls of the hotel have various types of parrots that fill all of the hotel with songs of their own. Each room has a theme. There are so many textures for your eyes to take in. Its a great place to stay in San Juan.
We stayed there in two different rooms. Loved one of the rooms but not the other one so much. The inn is a treasure trove of things from the past and beautiful in many ways. Lovely views from the roof. Its open until 11pm for everyone to enjoy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped move my reservation which changed due to our plans to visit Vieques. The only complain would be the cleanliness of the first room (first one on the right when you enter). There was a lot of dust and the cushion covers felt like werent changed in a long time. We were a little disappointed with the overall cleanliness. If you want to experience the old world charm and the beautiful birds and amazing views and compromise on other front this is a great place to try out. Also its located centrally. Close to everything in old san juan.
Great hotel with interesting architecture and art and nice staff. The parrots are lovely! This place is definitely not new in terms of construction and fixtures but what can you expect from a 500 year old building?
I booked this hotel for what from photos looked like an unmistakable charm and character! Then i got down reading all the reviews and i’ll be honest i was a little anxious what’s it going to turn out like! But fret not! The hotel looks exactly as in pictures so if you’re into a lot of character, unique places and ‘cooky’ vibes this is the place! If you’re looking for a beige box at Marriott this ain’t it! We stayed for two nights and didn’t encounter any of the weird stuff described in the 1 star reviews! Rooms were clean to a very reasonable standard, we had hot water at all times, the only other living creatures apart from humans we encountered were a little lizzard on one of the rooftop and four majestic macaws that reside at the hotel - one of which, the white one called Campeche - seemed to run the bar :)One thing i’d say that could improve was the bar staff at Cannon Bar that adjoins the hotel - ordering system is a bit chaotic and they’re definitely on Puerto Rican time, but hey, so should be you, after all you’re on vacation! Chill and don’t pay any attention to the reviews that are giving you Shane from White Lotus vibes!
I stayed here with my friends and we were horribly scammed at this hotel. A bartender over charged my friend by $500 and took my card and charged me more than the price listed on my receipt which is down right illegal. The staff did not care to get to the bottom of this and the owner herself sided with the bartender. The rest of our trip was spent trying to flag down staff that was going out of their way to avoid us so, over all, it was an unpleasant experience. The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is great...such a shame that we were treated so poorly.
My husband and I stayed here for the second half of our honeymoon in Old San Juan. We stayed in an airbnb then switched to the hotel to get both experiences. The hotel is beautiful. It is not a luxury hotel. You stay here to feel like to you are staying in a old historic place. Our room opened to a garden with a fountain. The hotel looks over la Perla and the Atlantic ocean. On the roof (which we went up to with drinks at night several timesallows you to see the Atlantic ocean and the bay side of old san juan. The staff was great and the Cannon Club (bar owned by the hotelwas great with great bartenders. We spend most evenings there. The "Free" breakfast is just toast and coffee and fruit (there was a yogurt parfait one day). It was loud, but so was the airbnb. Apparently, you have to stay in new construction to not hear the city, but that was not the experience we wanted. It was a great experience overall.
Just returned from an enchanting stay at The Gallery Inn. It was the most exhilarating and fun hotel stay Ive ever enjoyed. Words cant do justice to how interesting and beautiful the décor is but I will reinforce what many of the reviews say...If you want a Hampton Inn, dont stay here. If you come off the rails when you see dust in a corner or the front desk person doesnt fall all over themselves to beg forgiveness or give you money back if something isnt perfect, stay elsewhere. The rooms and property have an abundance of character and charm, but expectations need to be reasonable. Our room was clean to a standard reasonable for what the place is. The bed was immaculate and comfortable and we never wanted for hot water. Yes, there was street noise and some late night reverie that could be heard in our room at times. If you are an adventurous traveler that loves interesting and uncommon experiences, stay here. Have an exquisitely crafted mojito while enjoying the ocean breezes on the roof deck. Eat grilled octopus at the Cannon Club. This is the kind of place that true travelers yearn to find!
Muy Bonito. One of a kind place. Beauty everywhere. Every corner had something to look at. Even the smaller more affordable room we stayed in was special. (Be warned that if you stay in the scenic rooms at the top floor, there is a narrow spiral staircase you need to be comfortable with. Views were the best in town. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Bartender Garrett gave us several suggested places to visit. Courtyard pool is very cool (unheated). Suggest midday day dip and swim to the bar window to really enjoy it. Would love to stay again!
A great stay. The architecture is old but beautiful. The stay is affordable. The staff was great. Be sure to check out the roof with an amazing view as well as the indoor pool and the live music bar inside.
For one I’m still here. Within 24 hours the general manager knew us. This place is absolutely stunning. If you are into art, culture and authenticity this is the place for you. If you want to travel the world but still eat at Outback Steakhouse move on. This building is original San Juan and there is more then the eye can even enjoy or take in at every inch of this place. I’ve done extensive traveling and this is one on my favorite hotels. The restaurant has amazing food and drinks with ambiance you can’t imagine. The service is fantastic. The birds are such entertainment especially the one that literally runs the bars staff. I will return to this beautiful country that thankfully America hasn’t ruined and I will not consider staying anywhere else. I could go on about this place for hours but words and pictures do it no justice.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Such a unique experience being able to stay in such a beautiful and artistic place. This place made us feel like family, from the front desk staff to the owner of the hotel, everyone was amazing. Special thank you to Sophia , Stevie, and Janmarie whole family for making our 4 day stay there amazing. Will be staying there for every visit!
Stayed in the Vista/Dr Joe room and loved it. Super comfortable bed, great art everywhere you look, helpful staff, and the perfect location for getting anywhere in Old San Juan. Loud music coming from La Perla until 4-5am, but it didnt really bother us.
This place has lots of charm and there are photo opportunities at every angle. Location is perfect in Old San Juan as we had an ocean view room but still had access to the city. Staff was very friendly and accommodating as well
Absolutely terrible! Would never recommend. It’s an overpriced hostel that frankly is quite dirty and lacked any sort of amenities. Our room was tiny despite being charged 230 a night. The manager is completely incompetent and outright rude. When we complained about having both cockroaches and bed bugs in our room, he simply said there was nothing he could do or any other rooms we could be upgraded to. After four days the room had not been cleaned once. Save yourself a nightmare and never book! ABSOLUTE SCAM!!
Absolutely terrible stay. The rooms are filthy and has not been dusted in years. we ordered a ocean front suite for 330 dollars a night and I had called ahead of time, to make sure, that we were getting the ocean view suite. They only have two suites. when we arrived, we got a top suite , but not the ocean front one, and let me tell you, the room was nothing like it was advertised in the picture. It felt like in a nightmare, a run down youth hostel. It was embarrassing. no refund. The hotel reception had no personality, no signs of getting our room cleaned up, after we found out it was completely dirty and the bathrooms and sink being filthy.. Unbelievable. Save your 330 dollars and find something else. If you would like to visit the cannon club, do so by just walk in, it was entertaining and the food was nice. The Hotel itself , stay away from it, there are better finds in the same location. They also charge you 34 dollars a day extra for their charity, it appears automatically on your bill, I had them remove those charges after that experience. STAY AWAY, UNLESS YOU LIKE DIRTY ROOMS, OVERPRICED FOR BEING SUCH A DUMP.
Let me start by saying, I’m going to be as fair as possible with this review. So I’ll start with the positivesPros: Good location. It’s a 20 minutes walk to the beach and it’s very close to stores and restaurants in Old San Juan. Only about 5-10 minute walk downtown. The Inn also has a few different gardens and patios and a rooftop (mind you it closes at 11pm).Cons: When we arrived to our room (Terryit looked nothing like what was advertised on the website. The rug by the bed was completely dirty, the lamp on the right side of the bed was broken, the bathroom had no insolation and there were deep cracks in the wall where mold spores could grow. Room service never cleaned the room once in the 4 days we stayed. When I woke up, the last day there, I found a huge roach in the shower, and when I told the front desk about all the issues we had been having, requesting a new room, they solely said they would fumigate the current room we were in. When I asked for a refund, they said they would only refund a couple nights worth and were going to charge us an extra nights fee for leaving early! I was absolutely mortified and decided to leave regardless of the extra fees. Some other things to keep in mind: the “free continental breakfast” included coffee, fruit juice, toast, and a few orange slices. Anything more you are required to pay for.The pool is NOT swim friendly. It is very small and you can only walk around and wade in it a few times. If I could give a 0 star review I would. The lack of hospitality from front desk staff was unacceptable and completely unprofessional, and the fact that they charged us for an extra night after being of no help was the icing on the cake.DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!
This place is a glorified hostel and the only glorified part is the price. Location is great, this is the only redeeming quality. The first night and the third day the roof leaked in multiple spots including onto our bed. We asked if someone could at least change our sheets since they were drenched but no one could be bothered. The GM Carl is a big talker, says he’ll do anything to help but never heard from him when asked. The last morning a massive cockroach ran across our bathroom floor. The awesome pool from the pictures is there but very dirty, in fact the bar mats swim up bar were hanging into the pool. The juice is not worth the squeeze at this place.
Breakfast was late or non existent and not ready until 9:30.The staff was uninformed and very young. I wanted to like this place so much, as it’s filled with artistic charm and old world beauty. But the impression I had was that this place is running on the steam of the artist personality owners and it’s reputation over the past years. The staff was confused and breakfast was over an hour late both days with no coffee being served at all one day. Our balcony room with a view of the sea, while lovely had a bar nearby that blasted music until 4 am both nights. When we asked for some recompense for the breakfast which was non existent it was declined.I have stayed in many charming unique hotels of this type over in Europe and crumbling plaster and antique furniture are wonderful but over there they at least seem to know.....you can’t run a hotel on charm. For better service try the hotel Casablanca.
Such an amazing place! The inn feels like a museum that you could easily spend multiple days enjoying. It’s a unique space that helps you feel immersed in the historic beauty of Old San Juan. The location was beautiful and very convenient to all the sites you’d want to see. The bedroom was lovely and comfortable. We loved the bar, pool, and rooftop lounge. The staff were very friendly and were helpful in letting us store our luggage with them when we got there before check in and stayed a little after check out the next day. We loved the parrots too (but don’t try to touch them). Please ignore the negative reviews- this is a wonderful stay!
Hands down one of the coolest places I have ever stayed. I regret that we did not stay here longer. I dont understand anyone commenting that this place needs updates... sure, some of the fixtures are old and the furnitures a little janky. If you book this place, you are booking it for its antique charm... clearly by looking at any photos you can see it is not that clean/modern/sterilized aesthetic. It felt like we were staying in a museum, and I loved it! I wouldnt trade any of it for "updated" anything!! We spent a bunch of time literally just walking around looking at things - I felt like a child in a labyrinth. I wish we had dined here for dinner and enjoyed the piano bar instead of venturing out where everything was closed (we thought the extended curfew through midnight meant we could grab a bite at 9/930 on a Saturday night but we were turned away everywhere we went!).The bed was insanely comfortable, the view was amazing, the hotel employees were friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself was A GEM - all for such an extremely reasonable rate.Note that pool is for wading only and isnt a pool you would likely lounge around by - it is not your typical pool. Like everything else at the hotel, it adds ambiance, something interesting to look at. Parking can be dicey, but its hard to find anywhere in OSJ where that is not the case.We WILL be back!
First off, the positives: this hotel has a great location, with beach views from one side of the building and close to restaurants. The architecture of the building is beautiful- lots of character and old charm. As for the negatives: the hotel staff was more than unfriendly. After returning to the hotel at night, we were walking inside the courtyard to look at some plants. The receptionist came up to us asking what we were doing and whether we were guests. After we told her we were staying there, she continued to question us and made us feel like criminals trying to break in. Unbelievably rude.About the property: the hotel needs A LOT of work and looks like it should have been renovated 20 years ago. The state room we stayed in had dirty floors to where we couldnt walk barefoot in our room. The bathroom had spider webs on the walls. The shower was supposed to be "fancy" with all kinds of controls, but only one setting was working. The AC was incredibly loud (we would like to have not used it, but keeping the window open let bright street lights in all night long). The lighting in the room was terrible (no lights in the bedroom except the side lamps). The parking fee was $40 a night, yet we were told that if we would move the car to drive somewhere, the spot would not be saved for us upon returning. All in all, this is a beautiful historic building with a lot of potential and a lot of character and charm, however is in dire need of repairs, is not clean, and the customer service is pretty pitiful. Do yourself a favor and get a much nicer place for the same amount of money elsewhere in old San Juan.
If I could put zero stars I would. Dusty, dirty, and stinky. The place was full of roaches and dirt. The advertisement pictures all beautiful and perfect and then you get there and it’s so disappointing. My father planned a trip for an anniversary & was absolutely heart broken when they didn’t even get the room he ordered for the celebration. Me & my siblings stayed at a room where you could hear ALL the screaming from the streets was weren’t able to sleep at all. I personally got a rash on my arm after sleeping in the “bed” they provided in the other room. All in all it, was a horrific experience. The restaurant was good, BUT SOOOO overpriced. The waitress dropped a full glass of juice on one of us, things just got worse and worse. No toilet paper, no towels, no bed sheets. Horrible.
Describing the majestic preservation, the history, the art, the inspiration of just being in this hotel would take a poet. Jan is a fascinating woman, a profound artisan. Her team of inviting, accommodating hospitality professionals made the experience even more enjoyable, Linda, Jimmy, Carl & everyone was remarkable! We look forward to our next visit.
This inn is so unique. One day exploring isnt enough there are so many corners and cubbies to explore. Its like walking into a gallery, museum and restored historic mansion all in one. It was amazing to have the birds there, and the music room. While we were there a pianist was recording and performing at night. It was lovely hearing him play. The artwork, antiques, rooftop lounge and view of the ocean was second to none. We spent a little time walking around town to find a restaurant but we just couldnt wait to get back and explore more of the inn. It was truly magical. Thank you for a lovely experience. Also all of the staff, from the front desk, to maintenance and even construction workers were amazingly sweet and friendly. We cant wait to come back and stay longer.
This might just be the most romantic hotel in all of Old San Juan!! Absolutely perfect!! The location is 1st class. The staff is 1st class. Ignacio at the front desk is a perfect opening to a great stay. If you want a beautiful hotel in the middle of everything this is your location.
Awesome little boutique hotel in Old San Juan. Spread out throughout 6 older Victorian buildings it really makes you feel like you are in "Old San Juan."The rooms are a little small but comfortable. No TV or fridge but very relaxing. You have many little nooks to hide with a book or enjoy the views of the ocean or the fort. Pool area and cannon bar are amazing.
Magical. The Gallery Inn is a truly unique experience, from the art and vintage decor, to the piano bar and multiple Steinways, to the parrots, to the stunning pool and rooftop with a 360-degree view of all of San Juan, to the surprises in every nook and cranny of the old building. Even the owner is fascinating. The whole place exudes culture and coolness (to the people who left negative reviews because there was no TV, how lame; perhaps book a H*lton next time if you want something with no personality). I literally want to live in the Gallery Inn.If youre traveling here during COVID, this is the ideal place to be as they have multiple gardens, a rooftop deck, a downstairs bar, live entertainment, and the ocean across the street. We booked 2 nights and arrived on New Years Eve day, with the city mostly shut down, not knowing what to expect for the night. Im so grateful we chose this place, because the night ended up being amazing. We started with drinks by the pool (which is the coolest Ive ever seen), and then enjoyed champagne and a performance by a world-class pianist and violinist the Gallery Inn owners brought in from Ukraine. It turns out musicians and artists often stay for weeks at the Gallery Inn, doing a residency of sorts, and after this initial performance, we were treated to more piano and a woman with an incredible opera-like voice. So unexpected and cool. While there is no official restaurant in the Gallery Inn (only light breakfast), the staff thought to offer a homemade paella dinner for NYE, for which we were so grateful. We watched fireworks from all over the whole city from the roof. It was perfect.Again, this is not a corporate chain hotel. Yes, there are a few winding staircases and cobblestone floors and a small staff and no TV in your room. For many of us, that is the charm and the magic. I would come back, and stay longer, in a heartbeat.
Beautiful place. If you appreciate the antique and history you have to stay here. Interesting, engaging and charming. Extremely attentive staff. Everyone, from the owner, the manager, the front desk, the bartenders, the breakfast lady... I mean they’re all attentive and kind. This was a wedding anniversary stay and by far the one we’ve enjoyed the most.
What a charming and vintage place. All the rooms have a unique design and layout. Therere a few gardens and a rooftop where you can spend your free time. They even have 5 Steinway pianos and let the guests play on them. Oh and dont forget about the friendly staff that also includes five parrots
Stayed here a few years ago for a few days while in Puerto Rico. This place is really, really unique. The view from my room was incredible, the bed was comfortable, the birds were lovely. The whole place is lined with art and you can spend a while just wandering the grounds. Theres a great rooftop view, and the journey to get there is also really cool. Just an absolutely unique and unforgettable place.
4 words, not your average hotel. The hotel feels a little creepy but not in a bad way.The hotel has a nice colonial feel but the decoration I would say is all over the place and well it need a little more cleanliness. The view is great. You see the ocean, la perlaI probably will not stay again, but I would recommend it if youre looking for something different.
Beautiful- this old building from the 1700’s converted into a charming inn with lovely little patios filled with potted gardening, framed & sculptured art everywhere, beautiful views, and exotic birds that hang out in the lobby. There are several outdoor places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. My room was cozy and had a view of the ocean. More importantly, the bed was super comfortable and I slept well. Old San Juan is small, therefore everything is within walking distance. The staff is also very friendly. I will definitely return!
