The owners’ Norfolk farm figures into the modern Euro menu at this airy, collegial spot.
Always a great experience to eat here. Food and atmosphere are fantastic.
I love this restaurant. My wife and I ate here often when we lived close. It is very grown up, not a tourist place, food is very good British cuisine and the staff have been excellent over the years we came here, and still are. Must mention the decor which is very classy and of course absolutely iconic photographs on the wall. It is what this place is about.
The perfect rendezvous. Full of charm and character. Great menu and brilliant service.
Paddington is a bit of a culinary wilderness. The Frontline Club is the answer. Solid favorites, well prepared, a strong wine list with reasonable mark-ups, and a sophisticated yet friendly environment. Youll have a good time and feel happy!
Ive been a patron of the club for years - excellent events. I occasionally eat at the restaurant, as a treat, as it has a nice ambiance, a decent menu, and is executed well enough. Not stellar, but dependably good. This evening I ensured I was first at table after the event, which was wise as it got busy.Minor service faults I can live with but this evening was a lesson in staff choice and/or guidance.Starter arrives...dumped infront of me as the waitress transits the restaurant...a sort of drive-by shooting using food. I ascribe this to the pressure of an influx of customers. My main...Steak and salad is dumped by the same waitress in the same manner. This time Im thinking that she might actually be afraid of people? Or, perhaps, just me? Weird. The salad is a few knots of watercress. I attempt to raise this discrepancy with the other waitress but she cuts me short thinking Im chasing up the absent peppercorn sauce (another misdemeanor). Literally cuts me off before I can express myself. My glass of wine is empty for some time...Luckily, the duty manager was excellent - he is the one I managed to relay my desire for an actual salad, rather than a garnish, and he is the one that poured me a free glass of wine. He also discounted the bill enough to compensate for being charged extra (🤦for the salad I eventually got (assorted leaves). For his sake alone, this review preserves a star theyd otherwise have lost. Not the experience I would expect for the level of restaurant it pitches itself at.
Cool location and dinner was also really good!
Delicious food and a lovely venue let down by poor service.I really enjoyed the seafood linguine but the service was slow and mistakes were being made with orders on other tables.Ill definitely visit again but hope they sort out the front of house issues.
Very disappointed with our experience. Waited 10 minutes for a menu, then another 10 to try and order drinks, went to the bar to order and was told I would be served at the table. Another waitstaff came to get our drinks order about 15 minutes later because it was forgotten. We had finished starters by this time and decided to get the bill and leave before mains. 75 minutes to make three simple mixed drinks which never arrived.
Nice food, but the service was inhospitable. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day.
The vegetable curry was tasteless, its a shame because the interior is very nice. The waitress was trying to balance lots of costumers plus make the drinks, but she was also very cold and not communicative, almost rude.
Disappointed ! our club member booked a particular table that was given away before our on time arrival and our host was not pleased. We went downstairs and calmed down and enjoyed the evening but this was very poor in my opinion.Could have been handled better.
Weve been going on and off for years and its always good. Great food, good atmosphere and friendly staff.
Fantastic food (excellent portion size and outstanding quality / value). Wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. Incredible facilities. Brilliant staff. Thank you.
Busy place, we were seated at the bar which proved to be the right call for us. Good wines, good food. Friendly staff.
Fantastic restaurant where most of the dishes are good. I particularly like the lamb pie and the seafood linguine. Staff are very friendly and the interior decoration is great. The place is relatively small, and not sure if its children-friendly.
Amazing flavours and great recipes. Highly recommended
Dining here felt like I was eating in one of those restaurants you see in the movies. You know the ones where the characters are talking over a nice meal in a sophisticated but relaxed and not pretentious restaurant? Thats what this is like. The staff were superb, the food was absolutely delectable and the price is fair. The food is even grown on the owners farm! Cant beat it.Ive been told that lots of journalists eat here but not sure how valid that is.
I have been here at least 4 times now for food and for events. For a decent meal in London that wont break bank its a great choice and a bit of a hidden gem. The staff are always very accommodating and attentive. Glasses arent empty for long and plates are cleared quickly. I have had a range of food from the menu both vegetarian and standard dishes all have been awesome. I had the Risotto a few weeks ago and it was one of the best I have ever eaten very creamy and full of flavour. I will keep coming back here and enjoying the changing menu and great service.
I was so excited about coming here after seeing the website and positive Google reviews but it was beyond disappointing...6 of us came here for dinner on a weekday. We ordered several dishes but I’ll only comment on a few here.Halloumi Squash, Seed and Pomegranate Salad £9 - the halloumi looked nice but was very spongy and dry. I really don’t know how you can go wrong with halloumi but they did.Baked Aubergine Concasse, Mozzarella, Basil Pesto £15 - again, it looked nice but one bite of the aubergine and I couldn’t eat anymore. It was salty beyond belief and I usually have more salt than most people.Haddock & Chips, Mushy Peas, Tartare Sauce £16.50 - a few people ordered this but one of them was terrible. Soggy tasteless fish and cold chips so this one also wasn’t eaten. Not only was the food terrible but it took ridiculously long to arrive. We asked the staff several times and watched many new tables arrive, order and finish their food while we still waited. We almost got up to leave when our food arrived.I really want to put this to bad luck but I just don’t know... how could almost all of our food have been so bad? The manager was very apologetic but we had to proactively negotiate a discount, as they didn’t offer.Give this place a go if you’re sceptical of this review (seeing as so many others liked it on Googlebut I won’t be returning.
Now this is a special find. Amazing attentive and knowledgable staff, oustanding food and a perfect environment to share great times. The espresso martini is the best my wife has ever tasted! If the beef special is on, its probably the best youll ever eat.
Place was packed to the brim but got a seat by the bar. Ordered a Haddock with fries and it was pretty good. Chef must have missed some of the fish bones but no harm done. Polite and friendly staff with fast service.
Visiting the Frontline Club restaurant was a work / social affair with a couple of colleagues and what a treat to find in Paddington. Across the road is an awesome magazine / travel bookshop which I think is the home to Monocle, so if you are early a great place to browse, I have never seen so many high quality and contemporary photography magazines / journals. This leads nicely on to the Frontline Club which is ‘is a gathering place for journalists, photographers and other likeminded people interested in international affairs and independent journalism’ with the brestauntrant open to non-members.The food choice was good and we were offered a range of specials of the day. We all were very pleased with our choices being a couple of starters of Steak tartare with Arlington hen’s egg and the Crispy Duck salad with lime and chilli dressing. For mains I supersised the special starter of Mules marinere and colleagues had the pork belly special and the Lemon sole with brown shrimp butter. All washed down from a well curated selection of ales and largers – it was a very hot day in early May! Our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive. The photos posted with this review show that it not the largest restaurant and has quite a cosy but business like atmosphere; which I liked for eating out with colleagues and talking about ‘stuff’. The restaurant is utilised by members so you might recognize some of the correspondents that are in front of the camera, however you probably won’t know the ones from behind the camera, some of whose work is displayed on the walls. If you liked this review, please Like it!
I came on a crowded evening with no reservation but the kindly find me anyway a table for 1 person on second floor. Nice place to stop by for a drink or to eat good food.
Friendly staff. Fast service if you want that. Wonderful photos on the wall. Only had salmon ( tiny portion £13but will return.

Dined here twice in my two nights in London this week. Staff, notably the lovely Desiree and Alex, were engaging and generous with their time. (Toured me though the club and interesting photos and artifacts from the photojournalism heritage). Wonderful conversation with one of the members last night (thank you, Tarquin), who clearly embodies the reverence and respect for history this community of wartime journalists and their cohorts have formed. Eager to return on my next trip. And not to be minimized, the food was spectacular.
Had a great dinner last night. The lamb pie is superb; the lamb is tender and tasty. Service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Poached peaches for dessert were Devine. Will definitely eat here again when we return to London.
The best food I have ever tasted. The lamb pie haunts my dreams and I inted to visit England again with main reason to eat there again. 5/5 stars.
Ive been to this place twice and both times were interesting.First time I ate something delicious and indulged in the atmosphere, one of its main assets, and the second time I just had a coffee (excellentas I waited for somebody.During my last visit I noticed the interesting press photographs on the wall and also the list of upcoming talks, including one on nerve agents as a weapon of war. This is where foreign correspondents hang out and, presumably, people who want to hang out with them.If youre at a loose end at Paddington Station and youre not totally skint, this would be a good place to come and lunch.
Found this place whilst out walking and went in for dinner. Lovely food, good service and the waitress was knowledgeable in what to recommend.Atmosphere is a little noisy as it got busy but still acceptable. It is a little pricy but worth it.
Excellent service. Great food, at reasonable by London standards, prices. There is an eclectic and chilled ambiance. Would highly recommend.
Really interesting place Great selection of booze upstairs some of it chosen by war correspondents from the world conflict zones. Restaurant downstairs. Really friendly staff. they also do special events. And you get to brush shoulders with some famous people
The jazz on the quality sound system played as we entered the beautifully lit, simple black decor and the attentive friendly waiter immediately welcomed us. The menu is broad and the food is good. The wines too impressed. Half a dozen single malt whiskies to choose from were appreciated. Recommended if you are looking for a much better eatery in the Paddington area.
Great place!! Excellent service!! Delicious food and great sugestions, when needed. Nice jazz music gives it a cool atmosphere. I really enjoyed it. I´ll sure come back ;)
Amazing halibut with crab risotto. Good scallops too. Attentive service. Good attention to detail. An unexpected gem within 100 metres of Paddington
What a fantastic venue! This is an authentic members club, which we felt privileged to experience... and thank you Lukas for allowing us to explore the private exhibits and war photography sections. The food was a joy, inluding starter of fresh asparagus, followed by Lamb Wellington and seasonal greens, helped along with an excellent Rioja reserva. Full marks
A great option for dining near Paddington. Modern European menu with a solid wine list and attentive service. The lamb and vegetable pie with mash is superb
A real pleasure to spend the evening in such an interesting place full of character, style and history! 4 of us had a meal followed by coffee & cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and drinks & we thought the newly renovated areas were awesome too! Great value for money considering the restaurant location...
Simple British food done extremely well. Wine list is well constructed with a good selection, and great cocktails as well. Finally the service although slow at times is definitely considerate and well focused.
Great atmosphere, perfect food: we enjoyed everything, from the tasty and reasonably original ceviche to the scallops and the lemon sole. Ah, and good soup as well. Less than 40 quid p/p with one glass of wine, water, bread, 1 coffee and 1 pudding.
One of the best places to eat in the Paddington area (not a known culinary hotspot). Good ingredients and fairly priced. Service is attentive and friendly.
The staff was great! The food was excellent! The atmosphere was great for the city. Love the photos on the wall that were fitting for the name of the restaurant.
Burrata for starters very nice. Main course fine fine. Very broad range of desserts. Good atmosphere. Staff very attentive and friendly. Good experience with my vegetarian cousin from Italy :)
The food was absolutely delicious and its nice to know that all proceeds go to supporting the club, however I should not that the restaurant was very loud and it did feel overly expensive.Food Allergy Review: this was very well handled, although bit labeled on menus.
no value at all, small portions. £68 per person for a micro starter (£12), micro main (£19and dessert with 2 bottle of wine for 6 people. The "main" was composed by 2 tiny pieces of lamb, nothing special. If you like to go to a restaurant to eat, this is not the place for you. The food quality does not not justify such a high price. And I keep ask myself why pretentious restaurants like this should serve such a small portions. Is there any intrinsic reason?
The staff is very welcoming! The food was pretty good and delicious. We had plenty of dishes to choose from, all at very reasonable cost. The sticky toffee pudding was incredibly yummy!!! Recommended this British Restaurant. It is clean and comfortable, all adding to a romantic & relaxing atmosphere. Superb place to spend a lovely evening! Will visit again :)))
Had a lovely meal today. It felt like it was one of the best in London. Ingredients from the farm were fresh and well cooked. The lunch dishes came with a very good taste and pleasant surprises. Lovely wine. My husband and I were searching for a venue for a party. We felt it is too good for a party. This restaurant should be enjoyed with your partners or adult family members. Will come again.
We enjoyed our meal, but the puff pastry on the onion tart was not freshly cooked. The surprise on our bill was that we had been charged for bread.
well dont go to this restaurant expecting to get the cheaper early evening and late night menu (also advertised on their website as pre- and post- event menus We went to an event and when we requested the menu at 9.30 we were told it was "off". Given that wed already sat down and had pre-dinner drinks, we were then forced to eat of the significantly more expensive menu. The food was lovely but I was not at all impressed with this rip-off attitude. If things are not available for that menu (as they claimed to be the casethen they need to provide alternatives, not assume that diners will simply cough up for the more expensive menu. At the very least (wed booked the table for 9.30advise the diners when they book, especially since its still being advertised on their website.
Nice, quiet room (not something to be taken for granted at this price range in Londonin a barren part of town. Food good, though beef rib a little tough. Attentive waitstaff.
