Hip spot with a Carolina manse feel, hopping bar & patio dishing up Lowcountry cuisine.
I love and adore this bar. The food is delicious and accessible for anyone, the drinks are well thought out and well priced and the staff is down to earth incredible humans. I dont want it to go.
I went a few weeks ago with 3 others. We all agreed that our waitress was great and that it was a good place for drinks, appetizers and dessert. The meals were not good. Fried chicken was dry and catfish was too wet- I mean really soggy and tasteless. The muscles tasted like they had been in the microwave- rubbery and tasteless.
We were a party of 4. None of us impressed with our meals. Waitress was efficient and friendly. But Fried chicken was over cooked, almost inedible, Fish was "watery", steak was just ok. Though, Rice cakes were good and choc cake dessert was delicious but tiny, the banana pudding was more like soup. For what was served... very expensive and disappointing. Great bar... maybe a better place for drinks than dinner.
Good food, nice drinks, plenty of room to move around. They have 4 pinball machines around the bar. We got the rice balls, cornbread, collard greens and fried chicken. Definitely get the rice balls! Delicious.
Really fun low-key on beyond, some good fried food and pinball and a nice selection of beers on tap. We especially enjoyed the hot sauce bucket which came after we asked about hot sauce and is homemade by a local guy. Pineapple sweet chili sauce and fried chicken are combo not to miss. Also enjoyed the grilled gem salad which had some nice spice and the fried green tomatoes are best Ive had in 20 years. probably a spot we will return for nibbles and beers and pinball most often and the patio looks intriguing for warmer weather.
Casual dining with friendly and fast service. We had the fried green tomatoes, ribs with collard green and shrimp with grits. The shrimp was absolutely amazing. Everything was very delicious and uniquely done. Best cabbage salad (with the ribsever!
The Frogmore offers outstanding brunch food. We got the Biscuit Sandwich and the Southern Benny. I spent my last 3 years in Raleigh before moving to Boston a few months ago, and had a hankering for some southern food. I didnt expect it to be this good. The Biscuit Sandwich was outstanding, and the Southern Benny was also very good. Collards were great. I miss those since moving here from down south. The interior is cozy and warm, with a lovely bar (where we ateand plenty of window seating.
Fried chicken is fire. Cool bartenders. Pinball. Draft list isnt mind blowing, but it isnt lame either. Charming space with a few four tops if you want more of a restaurant feel, otherwise, dive, dive, dive!
Super tasty! Lots of gluten free options (online menu doesnt specify whats gf but the one at the restaurant doesand friendly staff. The fried green tomatoes are awesome
Cute place in JP. We tried many different menu items - the fried chicken bucket was the best. We also loved the she-crab soup, fried green tomatoes, & cornbread (especially the honey butter dipping sauce it came with). They have unique/fun drinks as well. Service was great. We’ll definitely be returning!
A friend ate here and posted pictures. Food and Menu looked great. So tonight I ordered TAKE OUT. I ordered Fried green tomatoes and Smoked pork ribs with a side of collard greens. Fried green Tomatoes was good but needed more seasoning (youre suppose to season tomatoes and your flour). It says Smoked Pork Ribs. These ribs were not smoked at all. Tasted pan baked and heated on a grill for grill marks (if you need help I am really good at smoking meats hit me upribs had no seasoning. Collard greens and BBQ sauce had way too much vinegar (Thanks for the acid reflux night😠The menu is great but the food lacks taste. Please take the word Smoked Pork ribs and put Pork Ribs. They are not smoked. If your use to bland food this spots for you. Again great menu but your lacking taste.🤷🏿♀️ FIX IT JESUS!
The atmosphere is nice. The dog sitting just outside the door after midnight...adorable. The bartender, great. While I did do my research and the online photo of display fried chicken wings & legs (what I was looking forwas disappointedly NOT on the menu. The fried chicken tenders were not bad. The sauce (shown in the photorecommended by bartender is really good...but if you favor heat...go for the Chipotle Heat (name could be wrong and I took a photo but it got deleted...by accidentally... without me doing it;"...weird! I know." So if it wasnt for the disappointing and misleading menu marketing...and I am having an off day and not feeling well which also affects the functionality of my brain...and...the reason there was another reason for a second star short of five star. Update the website and youre good.Well...that and the othrr thing I cannot remember.
Mixed feelings about this place. The bucket of fried chicken is really good and we liked the pork chop too but the fish was not good at all it was just a piece of boiled fish that didnt taste great. The Mac and cheese was a bit disappointing. Price is fair and service ok. Our waiter wasnt particularly nice. Id say if you are in the area or love close by sure.. if you are driving a couple of miles to get there, not worth it
Bucket of fried chicken was very good and juicy. The pork chop was also very good. Deducting one star for service; food took a long time and when it arrived they had forgotten one of the dishes.
Updating my review...the frogmore is very good. Food we tried:The bucket of fried chicken was awesome, cornbread is solid and brussel sprouts and okra were excellent. They was a decent selection of beer on draft. The list was a little short and focused heavily on Ipas (which I likebut I know they are not for everyone. The ribs were good. Black eyed pea hummus was just okay. There are definitely a plethora of great choices on the menu here. Also very clearly labeled for gf, vegetarian, vegan.
Kids eat free until 7pm, if you stick to the kids menu. Faro succotash actually made me like okra (well, a littleand BEP veggie burger was yummy. Great hush puppies. Nice beer menu. Happy that theres pinball, but to this old timer, $1 a game still seems too much. Kids M+C was pretty salty, but to their credit when my extremely honest son told them this, they offered to remake it for him!
Young crowd delightful ambiance and great food. We had the mussels, and the fried chicken. Everything was perfect. The cocktails were wonderful too.
If you like southern cuisine, the Frogmore is for you. Its not my favorite cuisine, but the dishes I like are excellent. Theyre fried chicken is wonderful, and there corn bread with honey butter is worth a visit all by itself. They bourbon cocktails are top notch as well. Friendly staff too.
Had a delicious brunch at this place! Their cocktails are amazing, staff and service were great too.I had their garbage plate and it was massive.. but delicious! Not too expensive too :)
Great food! Fun vibe!
If you care for your taste buds, go elsewhere. Their food is bland, period. The cocktails are watered down. We got the scorpion bucket, what a disappointment compared to a real scorpion bowl. If you still decide to go after reading this, dont order the black eyed pea burger - it is a just a paste of black eyed peas formed into a burger, that lacks any of the texture of bean burgers, comes with a slice of tomato on the side with lettuce, and yes, it is bland - no seasoning whatsoever. Also dont order the bucket o chicken. My friend was so disappointed by it. Dont waste your money and time here. There are a lot of other good restaurants in Boston, and if you want real soulful southern food, go to Darryls on Columbus Ave.
This place has really neat decor filled with funky wallpaper, eerie portriats and lots of curtains! The service was pretty great and super patient with answering all of our questions. And most importantly the food was super tasty and filling! I would absolutely recommend the ribs to eat and for drinks: the Shifting Winds is soooooo good.
Ordered take out via the phone, on a Sunday. The hostess told us it would be 25-30 minutes which would have been perfect, except she had not checked with the kitchen when she told us this. In the end the total wait time was closer to 90 minutes. Overall a poor experience would mostly fault the hostess on, who was quite rude and didnt want to be helpful. The manager was very helpful but in the end the food was a bit bland for all of the wait.
Decor of this place is great. The bar is impressive. Food is "meh"! Good place if you have kids. Casual and cozy. Service is good except they took our drinks away before they were funny drained ☹️ They have a few pinball machines which is a huge bonus.
I have been twice first time food was ok not bad not good okay but service was good and great atmosphere for kids family restaurant due to available space. This time though they only offered a brunch menu and it was terrible pancakes grainy, shrimp undercooked, ribs over cooked, etc. Just terrible.
The food was good. My sons loved the steamers. They ate two orders. They also had one each the Smoked Pork Ribs and the Grilled Salmon which they enjoyed. Daughter in law liked the Farro Succotash. Especially the smoked parsnips. I had the Grilled Strip Steak which was cooked to my liking and a decent size portion. The onion soubise was a nice addition. The duck fat potato hash was not enjoyable. Its a large marshmallow sized hunk of shredded potato fried to a crisp and no flavor. We also had the corn bread. It is supposed to be hot pepper and honey. Neither of which I could taste. Overall we liked the food. Myself, I found it bland. And the menu pretty limited. Seating was decent. We walked in on a Friday early evening and we had no problem getting a seat.
The food was so good! I had a casserole with shrimp and its was delicious, is a big place they have bar area and the location is good too. I will definitely go again!
Bartender was so nice, makes great conversation. Great selection of whiskey too. Has a couple pinball machines thats cool. Decor is southern comfort chill. Would come again!
The blueberry cobbler was divine. It was the best since the Good Ole Days. It was warm, juicy and tasted of the food. The thin crust served its purpose to warm the fruit and did not take over the dish.
Love the atmosphere and decor. Great drinks (and bartendersand delicious food. The mussels and fried green tomatoes I can personally vouch for, much yum. One of these stars is for the arcade games.
We had a really enjoyable dinner at The Frogmore. The Low Country cuisine was excellent with traditional dishes prepared with their own unique twist. The service was also superb.
I wanted to love this place... the decor is fun, there are old school pinball & video games in the bar.. the menu looked great. But our server was bored and hard to get the attention of.. and both of our grits were cold and soupy. To be fair it may be a regional & stylistic difference on the grits but its not like we couldve asked our server today.Id give it another chance though. Just maybe not for brunch.
The food here is fantastic! Duck gumbo, steak, Mac and cheese - all delicious! The dessert too! Being from the south though, we didn’t really get a country kitchen vibe but definitely good food
Our waitress was very attentive and helpful even during a busy Saturday night. The wallpaper was funky and the decor was fitting. Dimly lit and perfect for a romantic dinner. The food was excellent especially the bucket of fried chicken. The shrimp and grits were delicious. The drinks were good and prices were average. They recently installed new pinball machines one of them is Sopranos themed. Excited to go back for their brunch which has received rave reviews.
Cool atmosphere. Loved the decor. Bf got the garbage bowl which apparently contained some of the best sausage hed had in his life. The portion was huge. I had a tot from his bowl and it was very good. My plate was eggs, home fries and toast. Eggs were cooked to my liking and though I could only choose between white and wheat toast (I chose wheat), that was also good. Not a ton of home fries but they werent over greasy and I liked that they used small potatoes. Was still a bit hungry after Would go back to try their lunch menu.
The best 25¢ wings in town and cheap beer offered everyday! Also great bar tenders and food overall! Have I mentioned their wings—smoky and salty and so so satisfying.
Enjoyed everything we ordered: shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, collard greens and cornbread and watermelon salad. The blueberry cobbler was delicious as well. Please go and enjoy this restaurant so they are here for a long time. Delicious southern food in JP.
Overall I had higher expectations for this place. As a neighborhood spot promising elevated southern comfort cusine, or something, I thought the food was just okay, and our server did not make us comfortable, the opposite, unfortunately. The highlight for me was the shrimp and grits, which was very tasty. The cornbread is definitely a letdown, served as these tiny little biscuits, which is quite odd. The bar is nice though. There are a some games, and the menu has cheap beer options as well as craft cocktails. The menu and dining experience could use some work
Frogmore has become my place to go for a nice sit-down meal of fried chicken. Its cooked until deep golden, but luscious and moist inside and served up in a little gavanized pail! It comes with a choice of a side. Most recently I had the okra and wasnt disappointed, super good!
As a lifelong Tennessean who recently moved to the area, I was looking forward to Southern fare (that I didn’t have to cook myself!for my birthday dinner. The Frogmore exceeded my expectations, both in terms of food and service. The steak entree was excellent, but the fried green tomatoes app and seared okra side really drove it home for me. All the staff, from hostess to bartender, were attentive and warm. In particular, our wait staff, Lina, went above and beyond to help make the evening memorable. We will definitely be back, and I look forward to recommending The Frogmore to others!
I would like to start out by saying that I have been to the Frogmore for brunch before and everything was outstanding! My friend is a South Carolina native and is fond of visiting Southern style reastaurants in the area so I insisted to all in our party that we had to visit The Frogmore that night.(3/17/18).Unfortunately our experience did not live up to my hype. Our waitress was abrupt and rude . After she put in our drink order and came back to take our food order , my friends noticed a Scorpion Bowl on the menu and decided to order that in addition to the soft drinks they had already ordered. Just an addition to the drinks, not a change . Her reply was " You want a Scorpion Bowl now ??" She was clearly aggravated. She spoke to us as though we had been there all night ordering over and over . My friends drinks came but mine did not. The food came and I asked the waitress about my beer. " Your beer? " The look on her face was obviously annoyed. I named the brand of beer i had ordered which jogged her memory and she said " oh yeah" and went to get it . The food was ok except for the ribs which we wouldnt have mentioned to the waitress had she been a little nicer . She was actually quite gracious about the ribs and took them off the bill. We couldnt get the meat of the bone as hard as we tried . The food has been excellent in the past and idk if St Paddys Day had made it a challenging night for waitstaff and kitchen but we arrived sober so it definitely wasnt us ! I would definitely go back for brunch .
Highly recommend the garbage plate. Service is ok but food is wonderful. Great new neighbourhood spot.
A fun place. Nice experience in southern dining. Great libations, of course. The food was a toss up. Some things were done really well and others.... Eh.The hosts were most gracious though. Cant wait to go back.
Great cocktails. The menu is superb and has many delights (mussels, lobster gumbo, fried chicken), and the 25-cent wings at the bar are always a good companion to drinks.
Have been here many timesSouthern style influenced comfort food made with the best ingredients. House cocktails are absolurltely masterful and bar staff are very good at customising drinks to personal taste. Very good craft beers not a wine guy so I could not tell you about it. 25 cent wings every night. BRUNCH IS AMAZING!I have come here with vegans, vegetarian s and people with allergies including gluten and dairy - they are very accommodating and take it seriously.Atmosphere is very warm and welcoming - nice but not formal. Staff is friendly.
This Southern restaurant serves shrimp and grits and theyve got okra. My wife loves these things. I have mixed feelings about southern food in general, but both of these dishes were tasty, so I like this friendly restaurant. An added bonus is that they have a patio that is dog friendly. They even brought us a bowl of water to help our furry friend keep cool.
I feel like this place is underappreciated. Always love the food and the tap list always has something Im interested in. Wish the prices were little lower for the dinners. But you can get some reasonably priced small dishes, too.
The bar tender here is great, and the kitchen was able to fix up something custom and vegan even at a late hour. If you sometimes like your bars without the dive, this is a place worth checking out.
I loved it! My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Friday night and the place was fairly busy. The decor is unique and homey. The entrees are a bit pricey and didnt catch our eye so we decided to share a few apps. The duck confit with down east marinated cabbage was delicious. We also shared the Mac and cheese, corn bread, and the po boy (shrimp and slaw). We enjoyed everything.I wish their cocktails specials had more variety but the gin cocktail was delicious. I need to try this place for brunch.
Quaint but spacious low country Southern restaurant in JP, close to Jackson Square T stop. Servers were friendly, cocktails were delicious and reasonably priced (the Stone Fence was amazing and just $10), and food was wonderful and affordable as well -- I cant recommend the "foraged mushrooms with ramps grits" enough. Between my partner and myself, we ordered two drinks, one appetizer, two entrees, and a dessert for $85 including tax and tip, plus leftovers for the next day. I will be back!
