Went for a birthday (x4 peopleand had some nice food. However at the end of the night we paid and realised that service wasnt included.. we hastily added £20 to the bill .. money is tight ATM and adding more was actually a bit of an issue for us. However the cocktail/front of house guy just acted like a total *** at the end. We said thank you. (Ignoredwished him well and thanked again (ignoredfor someone who has such bravado puts on such a show it just wasnt classy or friendly and spoilt what was a nice night. Wont be back again not recommend. Just pointless behaviour. The food is great yet this guy was not.

the charm and appeal of this venue goes without saying, however some of the staff are truly stellar. I went with a friend yesterday who left behind his programme brochure for an event at St. Martins in the Fields. He was quite tormented by this, and rather persistent. Amidst a very busy shift, the waitress couldnt have gone to more trouble in trying to locate it. Eventually, it was found in a rubbish bin. she neednt have bothered to this extent.

We were served by Leo and Jazz last week, the food as always was brilliant and so was the service. We had very nice little chats with Leo - being sat next to the bar, he saw me steal a little food off my fiancée’s plate and said, ha, even i saw that. I said oh I’ve earned the right to after 7 years, actually 7 years today. We were there for an anniversary meal. When we ordered dessert, Jazz and Leo made sure to add a candle to our dessert and honestly it was such a sweet gesture. It’s not our first visit and definitely will not be our last, can’t recommend the French house more.

A quirky and famous pub that only sells beer by the half pint. But it does have Normandy Cider and a great selection of French wine, plus friendly bar staff.

A SOHO institution that Im so glad survived the Pandy, its one of the few places keeping Londons romance alive. Im not sure Ive ever been here when it hasnt been absolutely rammo but even when it is, you can usually slide your way to the bar to order a large bottle of Cidre Breton, always the drink of choice, that stuff is incredible.

Love the French House, incredibly unique and is what makes Soho the best place for Londoners to go away from all the tourists. Very continental half pints only or small glasses of wines at around 3 quid. Always a great atmosphere especially on a Friday afternoon/evening

Frankly, you couldnt have a finer time in London. Start with a glass of beer downstairs chatting to the friendly team. Then upstairs for some kind and delicious food cooked by the charming Neil Borthwick. The trick seems to be to elevate simple ingredients into the most delicious food. The waiting is unobtrusive yet friendly. And the well chosen wine list is accessible with surprisingly modest mark-ups.

Love this pub! Real French vibes with excellent British snacks. I have never been to anywhere this authentic out side of France. My favourite cidre in bottles and big bottles as well. Twiglets, scampi fries and bacon fries. Lovely atmosphere. Excellent staff. I could easily spend a whole day in this bar

This is an atmospheric old pub with lots of history. The decor has not changed for years, it was a favourite of veterans returning from fighting in WW2. Used to only serve French wine, but now serves a variety of beers, ciders and spirits. It is popular and can be a bit of a squeeze but well worth a visit. There is also a restaurant upstairs.

This is my favourite place to have a drink when were in the west end and soho.So many interesting colourful characters frequent this pub.It has quite a history that you can look up or google as it was allegedly that French president Charles De Gaulle made this his unofficial place of work and wrote his speaches.I would strongly suggest to all interested readers, google the history of this famous pub, its quite riveting, and too extensive for me to a write up etc, you wont regret it.

Like this place, but Lesley (ownerneeds to stop drinking the Pubs stock. My impression about her, she thinks "customers are a pain"But they are her "bread and butter" income.I was lucky to be married to a Watneys barmaid of the year (3 years). Even after a long session you couldnt tell she had a drink. SHE ALWAYS MADE PEOPLE (CustomersFEEL SPECIAL.Lesley dont take the piss out of your customers. Even if you dont need us.Pub is special.

The French House is a beautiful old pub and a Soho institution. It got its name because it was the meeting place for the French Resistance in London during World War II. Francis Bacon, Brendan Behan, John Minton and Dylan Thomas all used to drink there. They only serve half pints of beer, except on one day of the year and the wine list is good and reasonably priced. The restaurant upstairs is excellent, but youll need to book. The French House is small and very popular, so it can get incredibly crowded in the evening, making getting to the bar difficult, but the crowds keep this legendary drinking establishment going. Vive la French!

lovely upstairs bar filled with happy drinkers. downstairs was way more crowded space with hardly room to move. bottle of house white was £22 which is reasonable for soho drinking establishment. the clientele were very broad spectrum and the bar staff were very accommodating to our party of 3 wishing to sit at a table that was reserved for larger parties. very good venue with chilled music in the background that wasnt too loud or intrusive

Poor customer experience. We went to the French House for a birthday celebration - we arrived at the restaurant at 6pm & told them whilst ordering we needed to leave at 7pm sharp. They assured us that there would be enough time to order a starter and a main. The starter took a long time to come so again we reminded them again about the 7pm deadline and they assured us it would be fine. The main had not arrived by 7pm - we had a pay the full bill & were not offered a discount or a voucher. Not the way to treat customers & we will not be returning.

It’s been my favourite bar for over twenty years, and I’m so glad it’s (barelychanged in that time. Lovely spot either inside by the windows or outside, to have a drink and watch the world go by. New food menu is excellent and the Breton Cider is always a treat. Usual no pints, no mobiles rules and all the better for it.

6/10/20 Lunch. Chef is Neil. Pre Tier 2.The whole experience was magical..the history..walls of portrait photos and art.. my view over the busy street.. gentle service.. laughter over the art of displaying artichoke leaves ..or “who cares”.An artichoke is such a delicious beginning to any meal, as I peel and suck each leaf, placing then neatly on my plate (please enjoy the photos!and slowly..enjoying the flesh and juices. And then eating into the firmness of the heart which I’ve cut into bite size. Absolutely gorgeous as Neil had cooked it to flavourful perfection. Then masterfully cooked Lamb Navarin with aligot mash potatoes. This was out of this world. The photos show the full deep colours and the flavours were rich and the chunks of lamb just perfect. You may know the restaurant, you may not, whichever, do try to find a way to visit this special restaurant, firstly of course, to enjoy the experience and secondly to give personal valued support to The French House while we live through Covid. Soho is a fascinating part of London; a little seedy in places but, refreshingly still full of characterful bars and restaurants. This establishment is an institution for a variety of reasons. The downstairs bar makes you feel like you’re in France - pictures of Charles de Gaulle, Breton cider, eau de vie in various varieties and beers by the half pint - a lovely intimate feel. In fact de Gaulle used it as an office during the Second World War and apparently Dylan Thomas and Francis Bacon both drank here.It has no music nor TV - to encourage conversation - and if you breach the no mobile phones policy you will be abruptly told to go outside. The policy is clearly stated so punters who feel aggrieved at being chastised should be looking at themselves rather than complaining! The French (obviously!restaurant upstairs is a lunchtime pleasure. Quality ingredients, superbly cooked. Booking is essential.

This is an absolute must for any culinary enthusiast. A small and perfectly formed restaurant that seats not more than twenty, with world class staff, serving classic French dishes with an occasional modern twist. The wine list is short but very good with some very affordable options. There is none of the stuffiness about it that one usually gets in this sort of place. Undoubtedly one of my favourite French restaurants ever. You must book!

This might well be my favourite pub in London, definitely Soho. Bijou of a place where small means cosy, intimate and exciting NOT cramped and smelly like the tube you took to get there. The front windows open fully shutter style which aids with the ambiance but maybe more so with the chance to people watch or to pose in the style of your favourite author. The feeling of history in this long standing pub is obvious and adorns the walls in photos and drawings crafted by the famous and infamous. The original till still sits proud and even though not functioning is still polished and intriguing as the charismatic, fast witted Landlord who managed to make me feel like a gentleman and naughty child all at the same time. Remember if you want immediate kudos when you walk in ask for a half pint.....The French does not serve pints!

Cute little pub with interesting & friendly crowd. Shame they don’t serve food on Friday evenings.Excellent selection of wines sold by the glass (or bottle of course).Helpful and efficient staff. It can get very crowded and loud in here. The toilets were upstairs, so would not be suitable for those with accessibility needs.

Staff were very welcoming and the place has a great vibe. Amazing old decor! Stopped for lunch and was very impressed! Had some game bird & some amazing goose fat roasties. The challenge is to eat them all!? The manageress did give us the spare ones to takeaway which was cool! Would have been 5 stars from me if they had some more French beer, some Bier De Garde would have been fantastic! Though they do have a couple of Belgium bottles which are great!
