It’s a must when in Melbourne, great staff fantastic cuisine and a very nice wine menu. Ask for a white table cloth and you get it. Pricey but worth the money. Enjoy the FB.

I had a great time having lunch there for my day trip in Melbourne.I spent more than 2 hours and the mananger was fine with it. The French wine I had was amazing. Food was good too and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I like that they all spoke French too :). The manager poured me extra drinks without extra cost. I’m very grateful. The ambience was just the way I like it. It was truly a good experience for me. Thank you to the French Brasserie staff!

Somethings gone wrong. Somethings gone very very wrong.Recent reviews are very negative, I now know why. Very rushed at the start, french onion soup was luke warm, starters came out within two minutes of ordering (obviously totally pre-prepared and sat there waiting to be taken out), didnt have the wine we wanted, was told the manager had left and everything was a right kerfuffle.Only four or five dishes on the main menu? Something has changed and it isnt good. Was rushed, service was awful and rude.Left after entrees but full credit to the guy who knew our experience was horrible and didnt charge us. A very nice touch that took it from one star to two.Left hungry and ate at Meatballs Wine Bar which was superb. Most definitely wont be going back, even if the food was free.Hope you sort your problems out.

The French Brasserie continues to be our favourite French restaurant in Melbourne. Thank you for making my birthday a special day (belated as you werent opened on my actual birthday). The service is excellent, the owner is very welcoming and the food is delicious as always. My husband and I will always make an effort to dine here whenever we are in Melbourne.

Walking through the door of this beautiful restaurant you are instantly transported to the shores of France. With friendly staff and incredible cuisine, this place was the perfect spot for date night whilst on holidays in Melbourne. The manager was so friendly with us, making our group feel so welcome. From the very first drink all the way through to dessert we had the most divine dining experience. We will certainly be returning soon and bringing all our friends!

I have dined at the French Brasserie numerous times and it is a must visit each time we return to Melbourne. From the moment you walk in you are warmly greeted by the staff and I think the owner. Even though our table wasnt ready we were welcomed to the bar to have a drink before being taken to our table. All staff were courteous and several french which really added to the experience and even for a short while its like you have been transported to Paris. The menu consists of plenty of classics but presented in a new and fresh way. You cant go past the pate, french onion soup and the escargot are good for those that have never tried them before.Wine list and selection is extensive and staff are great at showing you thru it.For mains we had the duck and the fish of the day. Both exquisite. Be sure to save room for dessert and cheese. A fantastic way to round out a meal and experience. Highly recommended and without a doubt one of the best French restaurants in Australia.

As far as fine dining experiences go, this place is there at the top. The ambience is great and the staff delightful. The food is fantastic, busting with flavours. The portion sizes were just perfect!I enjoyed the starters and the dessert more than the main course. The oyesters were fresh and lemon crepe, delightful. The duck was great, but the chicken was a tad bit overcookedI would give this place 4.5/5, and would definitely recommend.

From arriving to leaving, we were treated to a unique French dining experience, at times it felt like we may be dining in a Parisian restaurant, truly a warm service different to what you would usually receive in an Australian restaurant. The food was unique and good quality, and we left very satisfied with the whole experience. Your not just paying for the food and drink!

10% service fee minimum what the hell?! If youre a foreigner and dont know anything about Aussies tipping culture (FYI there is no such thing), avoid this place as the wait staff will just takes advantage of it and DEMANDED you to give them 10% minimum service fee. It is illegal to ask for this btw as service fee is normally already either included in your food bill or the minimum wage for hospitality worker should have covered enough for any wait staffs to not ask for additional tip (unlike in the US). And on top of that, all the food were extremely bland, onion soup was watery, and the food portions were tiny. Overall, this place is just expensive and horrible. Will never recommend to anyone.

One of the worst dining experiences ever. I came to the restaurant expecting amazing meals and service as that is what the other reviews said, but it was the complete opposite.I ordered the chicken dish (Poulet Basquiseand I was thinking how bland it tasted, but I kept it to myself. Not long after, two of my friends started complaining on how their dishes were bland as well. The dishes definitely did not meet the rave reviews online, especially compared to the other French restaurants in Melbourne. Plus the creme brûlée was surprisingly tiny and tasted average, definitely not worth the price. Then here comes the terrible service. The waiter who served us was kinda all over the place and even stepped on my shoes, he didn’t even apologize. Through out the night nobody checked in on us, but when we were paying, the waiter DEMANDED a 10% tip. I’ve never encountered such a thing in any restaurants in Melbourne, and trust me I’ve visited way more expensive high end restaurants than this.Would not recommend this place and will never come back. Au revoir.

Had a booking, had to wait over 40 minutes for a table we had been charged to book for meaning we couldn’t leave. While waiting, the manager/owner insisted we have beers which appeared to be complimentary. Once seated, we had our meal and when we were ready to look at the dessert menu, a different waiter who had been rude the whole night just snatched the menu off of our table without asking. On paying, we had been charged for the beers. Will not be going back.

We came to Melbourne for a holiday with my mum and brother.I had pommes frites and a chocolate cake with a yummy soft centre. The man that greeted us made me a special French lemonade. It was rosy and in a fancy glass. The staff were so nice, they chatted with us and made us laugh. Yasmin was so beautiful and she took our picture. It was my favourite place.I want to come back. I want to live there.Thank you for a beautiful night, I will remember forever.

We went to The French Brasserie for dinner. As the name suggests, French brasserie served French cuisine, located in a hidden laneway in Melbourne CBD. When we arrived, even though we had a booking, we were still required to wait as our table wasn’t ready. The menu wasn’t large, and I ordered the French onion soup to start with, Confit duck leg served with vege, beetroot purée and orange jus for the main, as well as the confit potatoes cooked in duck fat on the side. To finish, the chocolate fondant that came with vanilla ice cream. The best dish was probably the onion soup - pretty basic but decent with its melted gruyere cheese, although the bowl was a bit gross with soup dripping down the side of the bowl. The duck was cooked for way too long that it just fell apart when you lightly forked it and it completely lacked the orange flavour. The potatoes were bland - couldn’t detect much of the herbs they supposedly came with. Choc fondant dessert was pretty good, rich with a nice lava centre, although the ice cream tasted cheap with no real vanilla (seedsin it. The staff members were not knowledgeable; for mains some of us ordered duck, some ordered chicken, the 2 wait staff who brought out the dishes had no idea which was which, that they had to confirm with the chef. Overall, it was a disappointing dining experience, especially at around $100+ per head.

My partner and I had dinner at the Brasserie last Friday night before attending Cinderella at the Regent and it was simply the best restaurant weve ever been to! Upon entering the restaurant we were warmly greeted in French and enjoyed a wonderful conversation with the manager and waiters before being seated. As we were celebrating my birthday, we were gifted a Kir Royale each, they were divine. We also enjoyed a glass of delicious wine and a French martini with our meals. We enjoyed the french onion soup and cheese board for our entree and the dishes did not disappoint. The beef cheek and duck along with the french fries were also delicious. We concluded with the creme brulee and the staff added a candle to it in celebration of my birthday. The staff throughout the night spoke to us and each other in French and along with the French music, we felt as though for that 90 minutes, we truly were sitting in a Parisian restaurant. It was the most wonderful dining experience we have ever had. We will be back!

Merci Beaucoup!!!!We had the most fantastic ...fun evening at this restaurant, going on 2 months ago now.. The brilliant hospitality began before we stepped foot into the restaurant itself....when we arrived there were a few other diners forming a relaxed queue at the door...out came the manager/ owner who greeted us with enthusiasm.....we were requested to take a seat in the outdoor area ....he then returned with a glass of pink champagne for us to sip on whilst he attended his other guests......when he could he would organise the table/s for us. We did not have to wait too long..... Let the fun begin!!!! The true dining experience....most memorable. The service was tre, tre, tre bien..... wonderful friendly staff!!! The food was tre, tre, tre delicious!!!! The wine was truly exceptional and " H" treated us as if we were family ... Nous avons hâte de passer une autre nuit " outrageous" avec vous " H et votre fabuleux personnel 🤞 !!! Salut de Wagga, Wagga ....!!!

We had a lovely time there from start to finish the owner/manager was a real laugh and the food and wine was spot on. The waitress which I think her name was Katia was also very charming and though English was her second language she did exceptionally well with taking all our orders with all my family with no issues!

Such a lovely, intimate space to have a date on. It’s a shame it’s tucked away and harder for walk-ins to notice. The staff were so friendly and made my birthday dinner an extra special experience. We were provided sparkling wine on arrival and a little dessert with a candle as a bonus. The steak tartare and onion soup are great signature entrees, and the mains are the perfect portion size and present beautifully. Can’t wait to come back again and try the rest.

Having had a few wonderful dinners at The French Brasserie we decided to return last week when visiting Melbourne from Sydney. This turned out to be one of the worst experiences we have ever had. The watery French Onion Soup arrived less than 2 minutes after the order was taken and before the wine arrived. The beef cheeks were dried out and compensated with a massive amount of awful sauce 😳 they were served with "mash and root vegetables". The "root vegetables" was one lonely thin miniature dutch carrot which is shown in a photograph attached. My wife had the Duck Confit, served barely warm on a cold plate, with cold beetroot puree. The house red would have been better option to the $70 French red blend recommended by the Maitre D. Subsequent research confirmed that particular wine can be purchased for well less than 10 Euros in France - not well rated. The couple at the adjacent table from Canberra had some of the same meals. The duck confit was returned and re-presented still insufficiently hot. The diners compared experiences with us and complained to the Maitre D. They left their main courses, shared a creme brulee and departed. The Maitre D behaved poorly and was extremely rude. He repeated that the problems were a result of the appointment of a new chef. I would be more than happy to quote to the the owner(sexactly what the Maitre D did have to say that evening. Probably the first time I have taken a diary note at a restaurant. I always seek to be constructive, when I ocassionally feel the need to criticise, but on this occasion there was no way I could achieve that.

Amazing experience from start to finish, from the owner’s reception to the the service, the food, the atmosphere, the music, the wine, the venue, we couldn’t fault a thing. The old fashioned great service and happy and super helpful staff all speaking French was so refreshing. The menu is just perfect and not too confusing, with something for everyone. If you’re looking for a quick cheap meal, go elsewhere. If you want an amazing dining experience then go see Hadj and his team, and enjoy a bit of everything, start with an entree with a couple of refreshing cocktails, a beautiful main with a nice wine, and end it with a delicious dessert and a coffee. This is our new favourite restaurant in Melbourne, we’re already planning our next visit.

My wife and I went to the French Brasserie just before Christmas, such a warm welcome by the host, although the place was very busy. My wife started with a special rosemary gin cocktail brought by the bartender himself to the table, another good feeling. We got recommended a nice French Bordeaux by the waitress to go with the snails, the boeuf bourguignon and the canard orange (duck), it was just delicious, perfect match! The lady chef came to our table to make sure she understood my wife’s allergy, another great move that made us feel safe and well looked after. Nice sweet note with the creme brule to finish. Everyone was speaking French around us, the music, the atmosphere, it was like traveling to France for a night!

My first time trying proper French cuisine and the food was amazing!! Escargot were delicious and really fun to eat. Texture were similar to mushrooms and it was covered in a garlicy olive oil. The tartare was so fresh with a great texture and I thought the quail egg on top was so cute and quaint! For mains I had the boef bourguignon and it was so tender. Perhaps the sauce was a bit too strong on the wine flavour for me.Creme brulee was a little average but was nice to finish the night with.

I love French food and had dinner @TheFrenchBrasserie_Melb.I started with an entree of French onion soup with toasted bread and melted gruyere cheese. Perfect for the cooler temperature the soup has a light subtle onion flavour with tones of beef stock. Along with some bread and creamy butter, this is a lovely start to the meal.I was recommended the beef bourguignon - beef cheeks, baby carrots, confit shallot, potato puree, red wine saute. And what a good choice. No knife needed, the beef cut like butter, the red wine permeated the beef, so delicious, and the jus just tops it off. But the ultra smooth pomme puree, carrot, shallots and mushroom compliment the beef making it an all round dish to savour. Some more bread to balance the meatiness and sop up any leftover jus, the plate was wiped clean. Satisfied.Chocolate fondant served with vanilla bean ice cream was next. One slice with the spoon and gooey chocolate oozes out. A very chocolatey and decadent dish, the vanilla ice cream is a lovely compliment with a refreshing flavour, as well as the crunch from the slightly bitter chocolate soil. Lovely ambience enjoying a delicious dinner.#FrenchFood #dinner #Frenchonionsoup #gruyere #bread #beefcheek #redwinejus #pommepuree #chocolatefondant #icecream #dessert #sweettooth #foodcoma #foodie #melbournefood#melbournecbd

I wondered about the online reviews that said the service was good. I didnt think it was very good. My friend and I sat in our seats and waited for 10 minutes. Still no one came to serve us, not even a menu was given to us, we ordered five dishes, the last dessert was only served one, I asked the waiter why only one, he said we only ordered one, I ordered two sets, only served one dessert? Each set of dishes is very small, I should never come to this restaurant again in my life, very disappointed me.

Nice place, pity we felt rushed and unwelcome towards the end of our dining experience especially after rejecting a 3rd course (dessert). The food was definitely better than the customer service. That said the cocktails are an absolute rip-off, very little (if anyalcohol in them and flavours were off, maybe stick to the beer and wine if you go.

Wow... We had two dishes, a steak and a fish and shared both and they were divine! I have no idea how a piece of meat or fish can be transformed into these amazing tasting dishes. Without any exaggeration the French treat food as art and it was beautiful in both presentation and taste. The restaurant itself looks pretty good as you can see from the pics as well and they have lunch specials for the busy offices that surround them. Good luck finding parking in the CBD if you are driving in during lunch hour for a meeting though.

Invited in by a friendly host, we were warmly welcomed by three staff and taken to our table. As the waiter had recognised it was a dinner date for two, they very kindly selected a cosy, romantic and quiet corner table. The soft and beautiful decor eases the mind for an upcomming dinner. They even gave us a complimentary sparkling to start. We had some oysters and snails to start. We thoroughly enjoyed the freshness, especially the snails, with the garlic butter sauce that was complimented with the just-made brioche bread. This was our first taste of indulging in the French Cuisine - and their alias: Gods of Sauce. Having the flavours seeping into your senses brings out the inner French that no one (even yourselfknows you had. Consciously, subconsciously - it is best to just enjoy it to the fullest. The Duck and Chicken have yet again reinvigorate the senses with reminders why food can be so lovely, so decadent, so enjoyable. As life is meant to be.People are very much aware that the French are fantastic with Wine - or at least the good stuff. Who could forget their strict policy on how they have their wine labelled and sold around the world. But for the common populace, we dont have the background knowledge of how to pair what food with what wine to bring forth the full flavours. Luckily, the staff were able to ask their in-house sommelier to pair a wine with my Duck. And good job they did, softly accentuating the flavours and sauce, the wine also became even more well-rounded. The cycle between the two made a delicately pleasurable meal. One might think that desserts (Le Chocolatcould be overpoweringly-sweet or heavy - however, they were able to balance the flavour nicely for a soft finale to the meal; not to mention with another complementary sparkling. The presentation of the meals was superb and I dont think my photos have done them justice – especially in the dim lights. The atmosphere, the food, the flavours and staff along with how much my partner loved it all means Id much rather give it more stars - but the system only allows for 5.I whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant if you want a delicious meal and a marvellous time :)

French fine dinning is never our thing. It always seems bit too formal and serious. We came to this place for a dinner party just before the new year. The place looks very classy. Service was very attentive and professional. All the dishes looked great. What let the place down is probably the flavour. Everything is well made, but not exceptional. After spending $150 per person including couple of glasses of wines, we were tempted to make a quick run to a fast food joint to fill our stomach. Style over substance is probably a bit harsh. We are relatively new to french fine dinning. So it might take us sometime to get used to it.
