This 127-acre park offers flower gardens, groves, educational programs & a Colonial Revival mansion.
Great place to go for a walk and admire the flowers and foliage. Lots of trails and walkways. Clean restrooms were available near the main parking lot.
Absolutely beautiful place. The yards are amazing to see. From the flowers to trees truly amazing and worth the visit. Favorite section was the winter greens especially the Korean n Norway Pines.
Such a nice and calm place :)
What a lovely local place to appreciate nature!Beautiful plants and flowers everywhere. Wish Id learned of it sooner since its so close to home.We haff a little picnic on the mansion lawn as Id seen others do. Not crowded on a Friday late afternoon. An extra plus is that they have nice mowed or gravel trails to walk on without worrying about ticks hiding in tall grass.
We traveled a few hours out of our way expecting to see lots of gardens. We did not get to see a lot of flowers mostly because we got there in the late afternoon but it was really nice to spend some time walking and bonding. It wasnt too hot and there were plenty of tall trees for shade and benches to sit. I can see myself definitely getting lost walking there but if I lived closer Id definitely love to picnic and read a book there. The only other thing that would make it perfect in my eyes is bodies of water, like ponds or waterfalls.
Even if youre not all that into flowers and such, this is a great place to visit if for no other reason than the nature walk. It has lots of variety and is pretty long, with many alternate paths. And the trees are definitely impressive! Terrific place to take a 20-minute to 2-hour walk.If you do like flowers, there are a lot of different varieties and such which Im not qualified to identify. My favorite was a huge flower that looked like a satellite dish. Not bluetooth or wifi-compatible but it definitely looked cool. =)
Beautiful grounds. So much to admire
This is a beautiful place to walk around. They have some beautiful flowers and mansions. It’s good to wall around amd explore.
A great place to visit. Colors, tranquility, quietness, well cared plants, shading trees line the footpaths that invites you for a stroll. Go visit a gem in Morris County when you are in the area!
A beautiful place to spend a few hours. The grounds are magnificent. It is also very shady which makes it a great spot for a hot day.I could’ve spent hours in the rose garden.Very stroller friendly. The bathrooms could use a good scrubbing.
Love this arboretum. Was taken here for the first time by my SO and it was like a dream. Beautiful landscaping, VERY clean and quiet, and a great place to just take a nice walk or have a picnic. No animals are allowed inside because of the protection, as an animal lover it’s nice to have an enclosed location you can go to where it’s just people having a great experience with you.Definitely come visit, parking is free and the evening times are the best.
Great place for a family weekend especially with kids. Get a frisbee and enjoy as long as you can. No fee to enter. Couple of trails to walk along the green lusters. Many benches to sit and relax.
The greens, great lawn and the huge mansion… this place is suitable for visiting for a day break to take walk and roam around. Lot of hidden trails for walking and benches setup in many places. Also the rose garden and variety of other flowers are planted. It is really a nice place to spent some time and capture really good pictures.
Beautiful arboretum and park that was once all private land. A great example of the fantastic Morris county park system. There is plenty of parking and grass areas for picnicking and adventuring. Some paths are paved while others are gravel. There are also flower gardens.
Lovely array of all types of flowers, ferns, trees, and ground covers! The back rose garden is amazing! There are plenty of shady spots to sit and take in all the beauty of the estate.
I have driven past this place for many years to n fro from work but never explored it. From I-287 use Exit 36A [from north] or Exit 36 [from south] and find way to 353 East Hanover Avenue, Whippany, NJ to find this place called that mouthful word you searched for. I think it is well worth many walks. They have lot of different flowers n ferns being grown n maintained n hey its free. Lot of long winding trails to get some sweat going. The fragrance of many flowers wafts through the air.
This place is beautiful and totally natural. They were giving away for free 5 bare root trees on earth day. So nice. Lots of trails to explore. Plenty of parking.🙏🌻🌷🌸🌹💐
Passed this place 100 times but never went in. Lovely , well kept,, spacious, grounds worth a stop to decompress or stretch your legs.
The tulips are blooming. The arboretum is beautiful place for the whole family with well maintained gardens, walking paths and vast lawns.
My daughter attends a gardening camp here. The property is open to the public and is quite beautiful. There are many, many types of trees and plants, which are all labeled for people to learn about and enjoy. Many people take pictures with the flowering trees behind them. There are paths to walk, gardens to roam, plenty of parking, and portapottoes on site. Its always very clean and quiet. I have been here a ton of times over the past two years and will go back many more times in the future.
I cant believe we have lived locally for years and I just discovered The Frelinghuysen Arboretum! People can walk the lush grounds for free and even though its so close to the highway, you would never know it. It is so peaceful and beautiful here! There were large open fields where the kids could run around and benches to relax. It was a great place to take some snapshots because we got lucky with perfect weather. I highly recommend you check out this gem!!
Enjoyed a lovely walk on the grounds mostly on paved pathways in a little bit on well-maintained gravel. Beautiful flowers, a variety of trees, and even a fern garden which is unique! What a lovely place to spend some time close to Morristown.
Beautiful spot to walk and take in nature. Very well maintained grounds.Good variety of large trees and flowering plants in various gardens. Excellent rose garden. Lovely assortment of pines. The mansion and grounds are nice. There was some construction when we visited.
I absolutely loved this place. So much beauty everywhere you turned. Definitely recommend to visit if you’re in NJ.
Its a great, open area to just walk around, or settle in for a picnic. The terrain is largely flat, but the gravel paths weave around the property with some slopes/hills. There are beautiful landscapes surrounding the parking lots so for less mobile folks, its still a beautiful spot to check out. Leaf peepers welcome.
I absolutely love this place !! I can get lost in time walking the grounds. There are many benches in all different areas. Ive found 2 different Gazebos so far. The plants and flowers are gorgeous and well cared for. Everything has the name posted so you know what it is. There is also a small vegetable/ herb garden to walk through. I could go on and on. I love this escape from the rush of life to enjoy nature.
Very nice trails and picnic areas. Great for big kids.
Gorgeous arboretum in a park like setting with well maintained walking trails.
Extraordinarily beautiful gardens. Lovingly tended by volunteers for decades, the breadth of horticulture and tasteful design of this arboretum is wonderful to visit any time of year. Uplifting place, stroll through woods, Victorian gardens, etc.
Absolutely magical place. We dont live too far and this year when the weather has started to get nicer, we decided to visit this place on regular basis. We have been here before, but this year, more so than ever. I am a photographer and this place has so much to offer. Recently got a macro lens and of course, what is a better way to test it out, but to use it on flowers, variety of leaves, plants and even some of the visitors, insects and other species. I have been enjoying this place for many reasons, but now even more so with multiple photo opportunities. They have a large area with multiple gardens and paths, trails, to walk, benches to sit down and relax, so I highly recommend it to everyone who enjoys a beautiful day with the family. Suggested it to some friends and neighbors, and now they also have a new place to enjoy and share with others. Including some of the pictures that I took previous years and this year, with my macro lens now.
The gardens are extensive with a great variety of gorgeous blooms. Can also take a nice extended walk on the trails. We most recently went on a weekend afternoon and it was a bit crowded then, but weve regularly done weekday mornings before and its not crowded at all then.
Very nice way to spend an afternoon outdoors. Although there were a number of people there was deafening silence in which one could enjoy the early blooms of spring. The fragrance in the air was wonderful. Something that is not often experienced outside if this type of environment.
4.2021. Gardens are beautiful. Parking lot is very spacious. Walkways start at lot and then continue across the street. There is a walking path in the woods that starts to the right side of the parking lot from where you come in. Lots of benches and places to enjoy a nice lunch or book. Buildings are closed as of now. Porta potties in lot were super gross and seemed like they were not maintained in a long time. No toilet paper either. Be prepared. Overall a beautiful, peaceful area to enjoy the afternoon and do some photography. Will go back again once more has bloomed.
Even in late March before all the flowers are on proper bloom, this is a lovely place to visit and soak up some silence. I am very much looking forward to returning (and posting some new updated photosonce everything is in full bloom by May, but still had a fun day here just walking around and taking in the grounds. At this point none of the buildings are open so there is no gift shop, restaurant, etc. Hopefully by the end of 2021, with the return of normality, this place will too become more accessible.
There are no flowers for now but still nice to walk around and get some fresh air.
I have always gone to Frelinghuysen Arboretum to admire their beautiful gardens but because today was a warm but late fall day, I spent a bit of time on the trail (one mile), great for families. All the flora is always immaculately maintained. All staff I have come in contact with, extremely friendly.
Well kept. Nice variety of flowers. Walking trails. Decks with tables.
We love this place! Beautiful spot for engagement photos & wedding photos! Seasonal flowers, trees & greenery galore! Dream backdrop for your outdoor photos
We visited the other day all outside areas were open but no access to their building. Late season blossoms were very nice.
We had my daughters 4th birthday party here. It was amazing! We did a fairy hunt in the gardens. The kids had a blast looking for fairy doors and their fairies. Afterwards they learn how to properly plant a flower and get to keep it as well. (It attracts fairies-how cute is that)And another amazing fact - the price! nowhere else are you going to find a place that gives you so much time, for so many kids, for such a low price. And everyone that I worked with there was absolutely amazing. We truly had a great time.
The place is well taken care of. A beautiful garden and variety of plants. Everything is labeled so if you wish to know what it is you will. A nice place to visit and do some exploring. Or just a place to meet a friend and talk.
The one of the nicest Arboretums I have been to. Such a beautiful place and so well taken care of. The layout of the property is great with long and short walks showing off all kinds of different plants, bushes, flowers and trees. I loved how everything was labeled so you can learn what the flowers and trees are. It was also free which was awesome.
The flowers are gorgeous. Lovely shady woodland walk. Even a cute toad. U must experience the gardens for the first time or renew your experience again.
it was right under our nose and we did not get a hint of it. we visited one fine afternoon with parents. parking is easy to find. Stop at the visitor center and the roam this beautiful garden.Enjoy a picnic on the Great Lawn, take memorable family photographs under the Rose Garden Arbor, celebrate a wedding under a reservable tent, read a book next to a water feature, tour the Carriage House, and be amazed at the historic horse-drawn carriages. it was straight from 70s Cowboy movies.Frelinghuysen Mansion situated in the park looks great, but it was closed. the rose garden just beside it, was beautiful. This breathtaking site also offers a wedding. The first Sunday of every month, a free tour of the grounds is offered at 2 p.m., leaving from the Education Center. Monthly art exhibits provide interest when you need a respite from spring rains. The first weekend in May, The Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum’s Annual Plant Sale fills the big tent with carefully selected, well-bred plants.
Another beautiful free place to visit in New Jersey.Went for a walk through the gardens and enjoyed the plant varieties. Most plants were labeled which was nice. The blooming flowers change as the seasons change so visiting throughout the year would make for a different experience.A wedding was taking place during the visit. So, some areas were off limits for a short time. They have special events throughout the year.
This was a beautiful spot to spend a lovely spring/summer afternoon. The gardens are well tended and clean and friendly staff to answer questions. Best of all its free but you can always donate.
Gingerbread Wonderland is an annual, local competition of gingerbread creations, on display, open to the public for a small fee. A wildly popular event, not to be missed. Make it a tradition for your family for the holiday season. No munching on the displays!
Loved it! Honestly such a beautiful place!! So much potential for the community, and just a gorgeous place to relax and wander. So many treasures to uncover here.
Beautiful gardens. Bring lunch and have a picnic, or just take time to walk around all the trails and see all the plants. The rose gardens were especially beautiful.
This is a fabulous location for racking up your requisite steps (my husbandor admiring the pretty flowers (me). And its FREE. There are restrooms in the visitors center, and a cafe that serves drinks and snacks. Trails are clearly marked and easy, but some may be a bit too hilly for the casual or somewhat challenged walker.
