Predictable pub food. The staff were great but over-streched.Too many lunchtime "deal" hunters to get a table unless reserving aeons in advance. So not a place to drop in at midday.

Nice local pub, good atmosphere, food was good, but it was busy on our visit, The service was slow but acceptable

Area was cool, asked to move but got no response. Explained we had a drink birthday voucher and asked about the 50% off main meals, told this was ok. Came to pay the bill then informed we could only use 1 voucher. We were very annoyed that this had not been shared with us when we mentioned our vouchers.Poor service, tables had not been cleared, reduced menu due to lack of eggs and a few other items, also no ‘ gas’ for the brûlée !!Poor experience which left us disappointed, especially as we were looking forward to a belated birthday celebration.The gin and tonic was very well presented.

Eaten here several times and always been very nice but visited yesterday and our visit was spoilt by the number of dogs in the restaurant. A dog close by was continually barking. I have dogs of my own but we do not Tahoe them out to pubs/restaurants. Not everybody likes to be seated near a barking dog. Will put us off going again.

The drinks came promptly. The food came in a timely way and was well presented and delicious. Our server was attentive and professional. There was a great atmosphere and we throughly enjoyed our lunch.

Had dinner there on 12th Feb staff lovely but food was poor prawn cocktail had no taste and hardly any sauce the peppercorn suace for my steak was stone cold and the steak wasnt much better. And as for the ladies toilets they needed a good clean we go to the fox a few times a month think I will leave it for a little while before I go back.... 29/10 went back to the fox last night for a few drinks at 9pm we decided to order something to eat we was told the kitchen has closed but on the menu it said kitchen closes a hour before the pud closes and thats at 11pm.

Nice pub near open fields. Staff were really nice and the menu was really varied and tasty. The burger was 💯 💯

Whilst the service was acceptable one of our party was served a cold Sunday roast which had to be returned to the kitchen.

Friendly warm atmosphere from both staff and premises. Good food and drinks. Great for a conversation over a meal or drink after a walk in the nearby woods.

Not very welcoming. No real atmosphere which is crucial for a good time. Its a nice place just feels very bland. If youre on a first date its quiet ant it may work for the low/slow atmosphere. Its a pub where you can get some grub. Not my choice...

Food was good and served very hot! Too few staff and they were very busy. This resulted in drinks not arriving so a second request had to be made. Also hot drinks were served cold. We did however request a replacement hot drink which was provided.

One staff member was verging on rude. My husbands main meal just didnt arrive. The staff would have discovered this if they had asked how our meal was. They did not so I had to chase up his meal. His arrived when I had almost finished mine. I asked for extra gravy with my roast. This never arrived. My starter of calamari was very small and sad looking on the plate. I also had an upset stomach all night which although I cannot prove it suspect it could have been from my meal at the Fox. We used to go quite frequently to the Fox, but shall not return after this experience.

I really dont like giving a negative review on a local business. However, my friend and I were looking forward to a proper Sunday Roast, what we received was a cold roast that looked and tasted like it had sat around all day! There was plenty of meat but only a few soggy cold roast potatoes. They offered us another meal but we didnt want to take the chance. It wasnt cheap and have had better at Toby Carvery!

Great local friendly pub with kind and honest staff, decent food and a sizeable parking space! Full of character and history and tucked away from riff raft! Will definitely be back.

Good food but one of the most uninterested waiters I have ever seen.The waiter for our table failed to bring us cutlery, didnt ask if we wanted any drinks and only cleared our table 15 minuets after we had finished eating (and only when prompted by us). We decided not to stay for desert as we were never given menus and because he was so unfriendly all night. Throughout the evening he looked absolutely miserable and clearly didnt want to be there at all. This unpleasantness negatively impacted our experience and brought our evening to an early end.This was especially disappointing as the food was lovely, the restaurant had a good atmosphere, and all of the other staff were great.

Staff are nice and it’s close to lovely walks, but the food isn’t very good at all and I hate leaving bad reviews. But if you’re charging £20 for a steak you should know how to cook at a decent level. I wouldn’t pay £2 for that steak. Over cooked and full of gristle. Fish cakes were also terrible but the veg was awful. Bits were rotten brown and sloppy. Clearly nuked in the microwave with flavour less than puddle water.

Well situated pub on the edge of Farthing Downs. Pleasant shady garden and spacious interior. Let down by mediocre food. My rump steak was very poor - tough and chewy - but triple cooked chips were good.

First time at the Fox, so very limited knowledge of the place, but first impressions are its a nice place, with a good selection of drinks. Beer garden could do with a bit of a spruce up, but all in all a nice place for a drink, especially after a walk around Coulsdon Common.

Lovely food, staff very friendly and nice atmosphere - good for families and dog lovers.Some food off menu but that was due to us having a late booking so not unusual

Im sitting here now in the summer rain under a parasol having had one of the nicest burgers Ive ever had, and theres nowhere Id rather be. Lovely atmosphere, polite and considerate staff, great food. A terrific pub. Highly recommended.

Very pleasant place and very dog friendly. Lovely meal and good quality at an affordable price. Plenty of parking places. Nice beer too...

Staff were great. Being super critical, The Fox has been inconsistent under previous management so I tend to go along, hoping for a good experience but things so much better of late.

I really want to give it a 5 star review as recent visits have been lovely, staff great and venue is unbeatable tucked away in a bit of countryside. I would always recommend a visit so let not this review put anyone off but the prices are a little more than you would want to pay but I guess thats the current economic climate. It was a fantastic retreat during lockdown - a lovely way to have breakfast and some peace and quiet. A bit of an oasis really.

Lovely open spaces stunning views Lovely and cool in this heat. Beautiful beer garden clean, half smoking, half non. Car parking and if you want to take dogs for a long walk that too. The pub well staff Lovely, service fantastic and they serve food although I didnt have any...

Lovely food and good service. Our table was ready when we arrived and we were served by polite and friendly staff. Only issue was a rather yappy dog on a nearby table.

Booked an anniversary meal. Havent been to The Fox for a while. . From the time we walked in and were shown to our table we were impressed.. It was busy but the service was quick .the staff friendly , efficient and the food hot and delicious. We had 3 courses eachand everything was perfect. We could not fault it.

Used to be a lot nicer, food and atmosphere! Disappointed as went with a large group who were all getting alcohol so spending a fair bit and we were told we were not able to eat food from outside the pub, even though it was later in the evening and their kitchen was closed!? If food was still being served we would have eaten that but we couldn’t! Slightly outraged as my friend who had been working all day had to sit in her car to eat her dinner before rejoining us!

Very friendly and efficient staff. Good selection on the menu and one of the best meals iv had in a long time I couldnt fault it. Will definitely be returning.

Service OK, not offered menus, on scrappy on table already.Not enough reasonably priced Pescetarian food on menu. Overall very expensive for reheated food from bulk chill or frozen. Silly money for most main courses. Soup and prawn cocktail were nice and fair. The calamari was unrecognisable, not least as it was weirdly for.d, heavily battered and puny, it was a ripoff and would be hard pressed to recommend anything apart from the two dishes we had off the menu. Such a shame as such a wonderful pub and so spoilt by such poor food offering. This pub should be caning it as a food delight, with large numbers flocking here. Instead it is limping IMHO, and I will be looking for somewhere else to go next time. Big shame.

The food was outstanding. I had 3 courses and cant wait to return! A little on the expensive side for a pub but worth every penny. Service was very good too.I am all for dog friendly pubs but personally not a fan. I had a dog bowl on the floor near where I was sat and a couple had their dog with them at the next table and they were quite happy to let their dog jump up and put his paws on the table and even lick the womans plate! Disgusting! Also the dog was whimpering constantly which was most annoying. I think a designated area for people with dogs would be more apt. Other than that I would definitely return.

Very good, we just had a couple of starters and a drink. Nice atmosphere in the garden, great for dog lovers. Good menu will be back. Plenty of parking.

Food and drinks were great. Staff were polite and friendly and very accommodating. The atmosphere in the fox was friendly, safe and very inviting with a lovely warm log fire burning. Perfect for a catch up when you’re with friends. We were completely unhurried by staff and as a consequence had a really lovely time.

I really like this pub. Lovely place and they allow dogs inside. Friendly service. The mains are good but not sure about dessert. The food can take a while to come but that is probably because the place is quite large and it must take a while to serve everyone. Best to go if you are not in a rush. Then you can enjoy a nice meal.---UpdateBeen a few times now. The menu is significantly smaller now but just as good as always.

Amazing pub on the side. Nice atmosphere and live fireplace to accompany your drink. GOOD menu to choose from and very tasty. Definitely recommend for regular or passing by. Staff attentive and New manager Michael if Im correct ,knows how to handle difficult customers 🤣 with professionalism and humor. Definitely recommend.

Came here for Sunday lunch with the family yesterday. Service was very good - we were looked after by Rabina and Callum. Drinks were slow to arrive, but in fairness there wasn’t a table free in the pub, it was really busy!The Food was soooo good! Exactly what we had hoped for. A choice of lamb, beef, turkey, pork belly or vegetarian option. No chicken though which seemed a little strange. The roasts were great; plenty of veg and a good size portion. Excellent value at around £14.50 each. Sides were about £2.95 - which was good value for the cauliflower cheese (which was delicious), but less so for stuffing wrapped in bacon at the same price.We didn’t stay for dessert - a slice of cheesecake was £7.75! That’s nearly half the price of a whole roast lunch… which seemed disproportionate. Sticky toffee pudding was £6.95 which was also a little steep I think.Definitely one to book in advance if you’re thinking of coming on a Sunday!Overall, we will definitely be back for another Sunday lunch. Thanks for a great experience!

We visited again recently, for the first time in several years. The staff were polite and promised table service but there was none. Had to collect our drinks from the bar, despite being told they would be delivered to the table, the bar tender seemed more interested in taking a call on their mobile. The pub wasnt very busy and we could see staff attending to another table of customers... Our pizza was burnt underneath and the board it was presented on had seen better days. Overall a poor experience, so still only just about worth the 3 stars I gave it last time.

We called in on a dog walk in the area, it wasnt that welcoming as although there were staff around no one said hello, we wasnt offered water for our dogs like in other pubs around here either and the service was slow. However there was a very nice fire and the beer was good.

Fantastic family atmosphere and I’ve never had cause for complaint with the food, I especially under today’s circumstances. Special mention to Chelsea for providing excellent service every time. An asset to any hospitality team!

Today was a bad day for the fox pub. Service minimal, unhelpful and without a smile. Clean Wine glasses that were on the table prior to our arrival were cracked in places! Very dangerous especially with children around. Food tasted/felt as if bought from Iceland then reheated in an oven, not all but things like the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, meat was fine nothing great and abit chewy. My prawn cocktail was frozen and defrosted prawns, due to water retention and lack of flavour, bread wasnt buttered or no butter with the bread (sadly enough I enjoyed the un-buttered bread more than the dish itself). Certain drink orders were entirely forgotten about, most items on the menu which I was choosing for my dinner/lunch were no longer in stock (about 4 items were out of stock until I settled on my 5th choice, who goes out and expects 5th choice?). Fish and chips werent completely cooked and the fish was for sure frozen beforehand as you can feel the water retention inside. The childrens pizza looked like a psycho had put it together, it looked beaten and out of shape and infact arrived in two parts. Ontop of all this the fire alarm goes off just as all our food arrives! Did someone burn something in the kitchen? We didnt stay for pudding. I would sum up with the advice to AVOID if your eating there, drinking there shouldnt be a problem, the risks of things going wrong are much lower. Will we attend again? Yerrrrrno Im afraid, unless things seriously change for the better. Looking forward to a lunch out with friends turns into a disappointment (service wise).

Stopped for lunch and food was great! Large beer garden with car park on the edge of the parkland go walked through Happy Valley. Bus stop very close.

Combining the charms and ambience of a traditional pub with a quality menu of an upmarket restaurant, the Fox is a perfect place to entertain friends or feed a family. Great outdoor garden means you feel protected from the elements and coronavirus! Friendly service and great food, but so popular you should book in advance. The only picture I took is that of my dessert, the Flowerpot! And yes, everything on offer is edible 😋

Came here for Sunday afternoon roast. I came with my partner and we had tempura prawns as a starter and the pork belly with roasted root vegetables. We also had the extra pigs in blankets. The food was really good quality and the wait staff friendly and not pushy.First time back here since lockdown was lifted. Staff wiping tables efficiently with sanitizer and the toilets were also maintained very well including the disabled toilet. Also found there was less tables to maintain social distancing. Booking is advised, especially on a Sunday.Prices for food and drink were very reasonable and food portions were very generous in my opinion for the roasts.Overall very good experience. I think we spent about 4 hours here having food and then some drinks over a long chat. Other patrons were pleasant and its a family and dog friendly place there was nothing that would put us off visiting again soon :)

We rocked up on off chance after long hike gasping for a pint .under covid regs we hadnt booked , but no issues a nice shaded table was found a lovely chilled pint of chieftain ale was devoured. My better half enjoyed her beverage lunch was ordered all very tasty yum . Our waitress Elisha was superb and had good banter .a very pleasant visit

Beautiful country pub, lovely to sit and have drinks in.Sadly though, the food quality didnt live up to the surroundings. We had the pork and beef roasts, and both were really bland and massively sub-standard.Beef was limp and flavourless as was the gravy, potatoes felt like from frozen, vegetables were boiled to death and just mush. Very, very disappointing.If you can up the food game it would be so much better, but I wont be eating here again.

Beautiful pub, food is lovely and it was good portions of food. There was long waits for food to turn up.The staff were friendly in particular Simon, yes Simon 😂 thanks for keeping us entertained and letting us sit outside with the heating for our pick up. 😀
