The Forge - Restaurant in Douglas, Isle of Man
Great food. No draft beer though.
Lovely place rather inconspicuous from the roadside, in a good way. We went on a cool autumn evening. No booking required even though there was 8 of us, they could not have been more accommodating. The staff are lovely, attentive and professional. I had the Cod which was lovely but my friend had their home smoked sausage, I did have some food envy. One small, and I mean small negative was that there were a number of items on the menu and on the specials board that had sold out.... must have been busy. Highly recommended.
Food was well cooked, was very tasty. The food was very pricey like most establishments are here, but you have to take in consideration that the island has a small population, less than most towns on the mainland.
Food was very good but portions were too large for at lunchtime .
Dirty practice!Having lunch with 3 of my friends last Thursday and found out later that they charged us £1 for a jug of tap water. Came back to the restaurant 2 days later for some clarification as was not informed of their policy on the first place. The owner was extremely rude aggressive and arrogant and informed us that why would we expect anything free when we step into his restaurant. This is the only restaurant in the Isle of Man that I have visited that charges for tap water. When challenged about this I was astounded by his aggressive and rude behaviour. I personally will not recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful place... Great foods
Had a great meal in there
Really excellent food; first rate burger, delicious sticky toffee pudding. Theres a reason this place is busy.
Great menu, well worth a visit
Why this place isnt full I dont know!! Delicious well cooked food and excellent value 😋 Great friendly service too.
We last visited the Forge 10 years ago for our cousins reunion event. The pub has the choice of indoor and outdoor seating - the latter overlooking a large pond with ducks. There is a good selection of dishes and the scallops are a must. For our second course, most of us went for the sunday roast option with ample amounts of meat. The food was excellent and considering that it was upmarket - it wasnt too pricey.
Good service great food.
Awesome food, brilliant staff, great prices, lovely friendly place and well worth the visit, so much so, we called and enjoyed two evenings running! 5*
Great pub bistro and friendly staff. Cool decor. Always a good Restaurant and service. A tad on the high side for the average but always quality local food. Wed highly recommend. Be back again.
After a fortnight of eating out as a group of 10+ during TT we were all fed up of the draining experience of slow service & mistaken orders so didnt have high hopes..The Forge were the complete opposite of all other restaurants wed been to and dealt with our large drunk group easily! All starters & mains came out exactly correct, quickly and cooked to perfection. Great quality steaks, beautifully cooked tomahawks.Absolutely no criticisms at all to give, great from start to finish. Wish wed found it sooner!
The best vegan food and service I’ve had on this island. If you’re thinking about going- just do it.
Such a wonderful place! Lovely staff and had some of the best vegan food I have ever had. Thank you!
Was staying in Douglas for the TT. Found the restaurant through a Google search. Would have given it 5 stars except service was slow. Young male with a beard took my order, which included a draft beer. He never brought it. Watched him walk around the dining area numerous times with nothing in his hands. Young woman brought my food and I asked her where my beer was. She quickly returned with it. Good food. It was crowded, TT fortnight, so ambiance in tent wasn’t much.
Fast service. Good food. Lovely staff.Recommended
Very tasty food and cheerful staff. Quick service for a busy evening.
I enjoyed this place immensely. The shredded lamb was fantastic.
Really enjoyed the Forge excellent service and amazing food. Great location
Lovely restaurant and surroundings staff wonderful but to be honest was a little disappointed with the food.
10/10 Food. 10/10 Service. 10/10 Ambience. 10/10 value. The Forge was the #1 highlight of our stay on Isle of Man. We loved it so much we returned the very next day. I do not understand how it has only 4.3 stars on google. Our server, Kerensa, was incredible. DO NOT PASS ON THIS EXPERIENCE.
Staff, very nice, polite, kind, friendly knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients used.Well done.Food nice, not excellent, some food was too salty, fishcakes dry, sea food stew nice but very little sea food to find in it, brisket, nice, not better than home made though.Didnt like that we had to order all sides separately. The pricing than wasnt clear.Atmosphere crowded, we were table of 9 adults 6 kids and a baby...hardly mannaged to put our plates on the table... I think families need to be offered more space..considering prams ,high chairs, etcHygiene ..not even one hand gell anywhere to be seen. I think one per table would be a good idea.
This is there roast dinner, I asked them where is the mashed potato was told it doesnt come with mash but said they would get some for me it was over seasoned packet smash the Yorkshire pudding was well cooked on the outside but raw on the inside the little roast potatoes were inedible and the beef brisket was like spaghetti strands only cutlery was for steak and the bartender never apologised and said he would take a tenner off the bill I pointed out that I didnt eat anything but one mouthful to which he replied no one else had complained and Im not talking to you about it anymore so in my opinion over priced rubbish food @ £ 17.50 dont go there!!!!!
Great food in a nice setting. Friendly staff and plenty of seating
Nice place, good food, but side dishes are extra, including basics such as mash. 😳
Excellent food and atmosphere here for the Sunday lunch. Brisket and Pulled lamb with all the trimmings went down a treat. Kids had a great time on the outdoor play area. Would highly recommend
One of my favourite places on the island. Lovely food, great service and very welcoming. Always a good place before getting on the plane home.
Great location, food and service. Very scenic and the meals were fantastic!
Very popular and has a "rustic" theme. Food good & staff friendly. Went there twice, second time we had a Chateaubriand - lovely steak cooked medium rare to perfection. Not flamed in brandy at the table as it should be, but it seems nobody does that any more! Good value @ £47 (serves 2plus sides. No booking required just turn up.
First visit, wonderful food and service. Would recommend it.I Must try their Sunday lunches next.
Good food and excellent service
The staff are just amazing. They have always been nothing but polite and happy whenever we have gone. The food is really lovely too.
Home away from home...Exquisite...Family compliant
Unfortunately, the service was absolutely terrible. The owner, was so rude and abrupt which isnt what you want when spending £100 + for a meal for two. The food was okay, the second course temperature felt like it had been left on the side for 40 minutes. Was looking forward to going here however, would not go again nor recommend.
Very nice. Good food. Great service. Really helpful staff. Enjoyable experience
My third or fourth visit and the service and food is great as usual. One of the best places on the island if youre into meats. You pay as you leave, so need to ask/wait for a bill, which I like.Has seating outside and a little play area for kids, a nicely done setup for a restaurant.
On behalf of my in laws who i recommend this restaurant too. On initial arrival they said it was busy. Which is normally a good sign... right?....wrong!They found the staff lazy, they mentioned the staff spent more time on their phone! They ordered and found the BBQ pulled disappointing and rather warm than cooked. The veg over cooked and soft.Overall they hated the experience and wouldnt recommend it.
Great food as always and excellent choice of drinks. Huge portions so pick carefully if you fancy the dessert menu.
Understaffed. Polite waitress, but very poor service, the should take bookings so they can actually cope (the clearly cannotThe food was average at best and cold in some instances. HOWEVER this is nothing compared to the rude, dismissive poor attitude of the management, who clearly have the least amount of staff possible that they cam get away with..They would respond to this complaint by saying we dont want you back anyway, or something more defensive and rude..rather than..whats the issue, how can we solve it and apologies for our dining experience being shocking. Avoid at all costs
I will start at the beginning…This was our groups “TT Last Supper” We chose the Forge as it looked nice from the outside, and had fairly good reviews. We managed to get 10 of us together as that’s the minimum needed to reserve a table. We arrived on time as was shown to our table,We ordered dinks, but they came in fits and starts, the wine was opened at the bar, not the table, and then left on the bar. We walked over and got it in the end.The starters were served, but we didn’t have any cutlery, when we requested it, it was unceremoniously dumped at the end of the table.Mains started to be served, but the starter dishes had not been cleared away, and with no clean utensils (Except steak knives), so we all used the ones from the starters. The sides took so long to come out, the mains (especially the steakshad started to go cold. Then when one of the ladies meals was cold when it arrived we decided this was not good enough. So one of our party approached the bar and asked if he could speak to the manager once we had all finished. The man behind the bar stated he was, in fact the owner. So he was then informed of the issues. From here he became defensive, and I have to say extremely rude, he was also joined by his wife who was also quite aggressive, I quote “you can’t expect London service here”, shocking really as they charge London prices! After things became quite heated, the manager finally agreed to give a 20% discount, as we were in the Isle of Man we decided to accept this. Had this been London, we would have given our address and asked him to send the bill as I do not think the meal was worth paying for.Extremely annoyed and disappointed by the whole affair and would recommend everyone avoid this establishment.
We were forced to eat outside even though there were tables inside as our party wasnt big enough to fill all 6 seats. The food is overpriced and the service was polite but very slow. We watched over a dozen unhappy customers leave due to the slow service. Our food was very overpriced. All sides including fries or mash are additional extras. My steak was ropey and unlike most restaurants my mash wasnt included. I wouldnt want to go back in fact for once I shouldve followed the others and left.
Great venue and always busy. You cant reserve so be prepared for a short wait at busy times. The food is pricey (overpriced in my opinionthough the lamb Sunday roast was really good. Beef roast was stringy and tough and chicken was not that hot (should char grill taste like petrol? Maybe my taste buds.Would still recommend as all the menu items sound great so worth a try.
My friend lives near hear and she said we couldnt come here without eating at the Forge. We just loved it! Very tasty food and we had a lovely table that was private and we sat there for hours!
Excellent staff with food delicious. Owner was great and welcoming. Certainly recommend this restaurant, t bone steak was brilliant.Price was a little high maybe reducing by £1-2 you may have even more repeat customers. Good job.
I really like The Forge, the food is good and the staff are friendly. Its a lovely location. I had lamb cutlets are good if a little over done if you like lamb rare. The desserts are delicious, the peanut and caramel cheese cakes is amazing. The only issue is that the service is slow, possibly due to the fact that they dont have enough staff on sometimes.
What a fun restaurant. Lovely staff and good food. Will be back whenever we are visiting.
Regular visitor, taken great care of every time. Awesome food and awesome service! Highly recommend the chicken salad! And for dessert dont forget to try the brownies!
