Upmarket bar/restaurant stocking artisan beers & turning out a hearty menu of updated pub grub.
The Flying Elk in Stockholm
Description
Privilege
Went in the recommendation of a chef from Iceland. Was a very quiet night but the food didnt disappoint. The Korean chicken appetizer, with kimchic mayo, was so good. I highly recommend the pork schnitzel. Very thin, yet moist, and paired with pickled shallots and mushrooms. Never have had it like this but would eat it again in a minute. Give this place a try.
MoreReally friendly staff who made us feel welcome at once. Yummy food at decent price for the area.
MoreGreat Chicken and Cucumbers!
Good but nothing too special.
Got a shnitzel. Great taste, worth the price. Nice place where to eat.
Very cozy restaurant. I tried the freshly salted cucumbers with smetana and honey and for main course the pork schnitzel with wild mushrooms and potato salad. Everything was excellent, the gastropub has also a vast selection of beers. The blue haired waitress was really friendly and helpful. Will come to visit again next time when I am in Stockholm.
MoreAwesome food, great staff.
Bit pricey but food is excellent. Service also very friendly! Recommend it
Excellent food and service! I dont understand how they can close down such a good place - it was probably the best pork schnitzel I had in Stockholm. Chicken wings with blue cheese sauce were also delicious. Nice range of local craft beers and goods wines👌 upstairs there is a nice cocktail bar for happy ending:I strongly recommend this place
MoreI used to eat at the flying elk almost every second week until a couple of years ago. I loved the place, its cozy atmosphere and the impeccable food quality. I went back with high expectations but unfortunately they were not met, now a lot of things seem to have changed. I ordered a schnitzel and it was not even close to the quality that it used to be. The dish was well presented but the meat was somehow hard and the taste was not really good. It had a strange oily back-taste that I didn’t like at all, and the same were the fries that I ordered on the side.Shall I still give it a last chance and go back for a fish&chips (which used to be the best in town)?
MoreReally top food and beer experience in a touristy area - fish and chips and crispy pork belly were both fabulous as was the beer selection and good service. Strangely empty on a Thursday night - shame, because wed happily eat here again.
MoreHad an amazing evening there tonight. Gerry was absolutely amazing and very attentive, and the food was great too. Definitely try the hamburger and the blueberry pie, loved them both! Only thing Id improve is the lighting, it felt a bit too moody for such an upscale place. Well definitely remember our visit for a long time!
MoreReally tasty food and an excellent selection of beers. The service was absolutely top notch. We had a great evening here
MoreAbsolutely excellent food, drinks were very nice too, and impeccable service from everyone. I think the burger was possibly the best I have ever eaten! Must give a special shoutout to the lovely Canadian waiter who had just started working there (unfortunately I didn’t catch his namewhose kindness, chattiness, politeness and professionalism made our experience so memorable. Would definitely recommend and would certainly go there again 🙂
MoreWe visited the Flying Elk this evening with a group of ten people. We had a good table, and the waiters were attent and nice. Still, my score is low because I didnt like the food.- I tried some chicken wings, but didnt like the taste of them.- I tried some kind of chips, and while others of the group did like them, I personally didnt.- There was some truffle popcorn: I didnt like that.- My main course was the Arctic fish. It looked nice and was well prepared. But I discovered this wasnt my cup of tea: I didnt like it that much.Ok, too bad for me, but the rest of the table had similar experiences:- A lot of people were complaining about how salty all the food was. Some people didnt finish their dishes because of that.- One person almost had to puke at the toilet, but prevented that by going outside and get some fresh air.- I personally didnt trust the food anymore, so I didnt order any desert. But the people who did, complained about it. One person ordered ice cream, but due to the thick consistency she didnt like it, and passed it on until the third person trying it liked it enough to finish it.Yes, the portions are small, but thats something you know when you go to an expensive restaurant: you have to take a whole menu to be properly filled, and not just order a main dish. Since we had eten well at a food court earlier, the main course was enough. But one person ordering a schnitzel was really surprised that there were no side dishes with it: she just got the schnitzel, and thats it. Be aware of that when you order. All in all the atmosphere and the staff were good, but the one thing that this is ultimately is about, the food, wasnt to our liking, especially for this price.
MoreAwesome place! Nice and genuine food, fun variation of beverages!
The food is highly recomendable and its right in the city centre of Stockholm.
We didn’t have reservations but were able to get a table in the back (beer?room. So many things on the menu sounded good we had trouble deciding. We started with the crispy pork rinds and gougeres. Both were good but not great. The pork rinds oddly lacked flavor. But the black pepper mayo was quite good. The gougeres had good flavor but somehow weren’t hot. The jalapeños added some nice spice.I went with the seared scallop. Wow was it amazing. So much flavor in one little dish. So rich and salty and creamy all at once. The pic doesn’t do it justice.Husband said the wings were really good. The umami sandwich (appetizerwas huge. Butter fried bread is genius. And oh so tasty. The service was pretty good (he forgot one item but it was for the best as we didn’t need it).Casual place with some very tasty gastropub food.
MoreThe food here was awesome! The service we received left a lot to be desired. The staff seemed to be “floating” where every server was serving each table. This led to miscommunications on food delivery and requesting menus, food items, and drinks multiple times. The food took almost an hour to come out, but when it did come, it was great. I would highly recommend the Umami Sandwich!
MoreGreat location, food and drinks. Pub food made in very high quality. Would recommend the beef tartare and fish & chips.Update 190829:I visited again after the new owners took over and can still recommend this place. We tried the fish & chips, burger and schnitzel as mains. For dessert the crème brulée, sticky toffee pudding and “Wienerbröd”. Everyone was very happy with their meal.
MoreVery good food, very nice place to have a dinner. A little bit expensive I can say...
MoreExtremely good food at a reasonable price. Impressive how this restaurant finds creativity in traditional Gastropub style. French chicken was incredible.
MoreGood cocktails, dry burger. Clientele a mix of tourists and businesspeople. Service could be more attentive but they’re nice when you get their attention.
MoreLoved this place! It came recommended to us by a colleague. The venue itself is relatively spacious but has a good atmosphere. For starters we ordered the sweetcorn (excellentand the chicken salad (tasty. For mains we had the burger (very goodand the beef tartare (very tasty but too big!We shared the after eight dessert which was the perfect balance of mint and sweet and popular on the tables around us.
MoreWithout no reservation you might be lucky to get seated at least in the bar area where the same food is being served like in the restaurant area. However, it’s a bit more noisy and conversations are a challenge. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and tasty, service was friendly and helpful, wine has its price - what applies to Sweden in general.
MoreThe best burger I’ve ever had. Booked a table for two, 2 hours prior, and got there a bit earlier, and we were seated promptly. Got the burger and fries, with some truffle popcorn, and it was incredible. Staff were friendly and atmosphere great. 10/10 would come again
MoreRather disappointing experience as I went with high exception. Starter with scallop is too salty to taste the scallop itself. The main schnitzels texture is hard, I couldnt finish the dish not because I was full but my jaw felt tired, like chewing too much old baguette.
MoreWas here for a company dinner. The food tasted great, but rather small meals and it took a long time to serve (probably because we were a large group). A bit too noisy, not easy to have a conversation, probably because of the size of the rooms and the music.
MoreVery nice restaurant, great service and good assortment of beer. I have heard a lot about their burgers so I took the burger. It was cooked perfectly and the truffledipp was spot on. But unfortunately the cheese that was on the burger was not a hit and it did not fell in my taste. It made me feel very disappointed at the burger. I would like to return, but I will try something else then.
MoreWhat can I say except that the food, the service and the beer is impeccable. They seem to always have one veggie, one meat and one fish dish amongst the main courses and the menu changes seasonally. Modern Nordic influenced food with innovative touch and a superb beer selection. Not cheap but not expensive for what you get, good value for money if you appreciate good food. One of the few spots in town I regularly recommend people to dine.
MoreAlways good food made with love and all components match so good together
Good food, the burger is too juicy by a little, and the flavor starts to get old. The fries are great tho, comes in a small container... when i ordered more it came in a giant bowl!
MoreExcellent tasting menu with wine pairing. Ate outside as it was a very hot evening. The staff are friendly and accommodating and our server really knew his wines. Good value for Sweden (in our opinion). Brought my 4 year old and he loved the fish and chips.
MoreReally excellent food with good wine pairings. Staff got balance between attentiveness and leave you alone just right. Didn’t have it but the tasting menu looked incredible. I had the turbot with lobster and caviar which was excellent.
MoreWorthy of a Michelin level dining experience without the exhorbant pricing. Definitely give the tasting menu a whirl of you can. Very attentive service, unlike many other restaurants in Sweden. A bit loud, and at times difficult to carry on a conversationConstantly busy, so make sure you book in advance. If all else fails, go to the back room and see if they have room.Corner Club is upstairs and a great after dinner, drink spot.
MoreWent for a Sunday lunch. I ordered a stroganoff and dessert from weekend lunch set for around 300 SEK, which was quite reasonable considering the high quality. Highly recommended!
MoreThis place well deserves its Micheline star. The tasting menu is wonderful, but the wine pairing is what you dont want to miss out on. Be sure to book for a romantic evening or just a pleasant dinner with friends and family.
MoreWent for a dinner with colleagues - service and food were impeccable.
I had a quick lunch. Hamburger was good, Place was cosy and a welcoming staff.
MoreDont forget to make a reservation in advance as it is very popular. Great atmosphere and great selection of beers available. The food was very good and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely go back again.
MoreAt Friday night service is really really slow. And I see that our part of set now went to another table, probably because of stuff’s mistake (same amount of people, but we were first in order and previous part of degustation set). Food I’ve already eaten was really delicious. But ordering a set looks like a big mistake for now, because I’m hungry.
MoreGreat place! Very tasty!
Amazing food with great attentive service in Gamla Stan. We had the degustation menu and it was awesome. Absolutely delicious. Also loved the Geranium and Grapefruit Gin and Tonic.
MoreGood food, but the menu never changes. Good service from most of the servers, but some are subpar. The prices are high for the portion sizes and quality, but still reasonably cheap for a nice restaurant in Stockholm.
MoreGreat food, friendly service and decent prices! The place is great for a night out, but it can get a bit loud if it is crowded.
MoreWas here during the burger bonanza. Dry and cold burgers. The umami was the best one, the rest were pretty bland.
MoreThe food and beer was excellent, although a bit pricey for what it is, in my opinion. Also some of the main courses were really small, so you might want to ask the waiter about the portion size, or risk walking away hungry! All in all a very pleasant experience though, with friendly and attentive staff.
MoreGreat restaurant with an inner pub section with a good selection of beers. During lunch time they serve a very good burger. It lies close to the tube in the old town. Their prices are upper end and their triple fried fries is a bit overrated.
MoreGood burger and great fries. Split into a restaurant and a bar with two different menus. Take the bar for more casual fare but still a bit on the pricey side overall. It was good but for the price it should have been WOW!
MoreThis restaurant has a nice atmosphere and good service. I had the fish and chips, which were delicious and huge! I couldnt finish the whole thing. They also have a huge selection of beers. The only downside is that its very expensive and I didnt think it was worth the price tag. If you go, make reservations!
