Snugs, real fires and a beer garden in reputed former haunt of Dick Turpin with a ghostly past.
The Flask in Kinkala
Description
Slightly overpriced food but fine enough. Drinks very expensive.Service dodgy - always nice to be told after the fact you were served the Merlot instead of the Malbec you ordered (named twice), as if you were mistaken in what you ordered rather than apologising for their mistake.Charcuterie did not come with the bread types listed on the menu, no explanation given. Grouse was a small serve for the price. Steak was fine. And there is an "optional" 12.5% service charge which is mentioned nowhere on the menu and yet delivered on the receipt. Not appropriate.
MoreMarvellous old pub with many nooks and crannies, and has a great feel and atmosphere. Good food too along with hand pumped ales and lagers. Very warm and welcoming place. Definitely should be on any itinery for the singleton, family or larger group. Top drawer.
MoreWent for a meal last night. Staff friendly and attentive but food very mediocre and overpriced for the quality/portion sizes. Range and quality of beer also underwhelming.
MoreThey kindly let me lock my expensive bike up in doors up (having just come 3rd in the Swains Lane Hill-Climb Annual race), before seeking due to a week deserved pint and great burger. Then you
MoreThe Flask is undeniably a very beautiful pub in a perfect setting. Very well kept beer.I did have a couple of small gripes.Firstly, when I visited on Sunday it was not possible to order from the bar. Sadly, that seems to be tied in with the positioning of the pub as more of a pub/restaurant than a pub (see below). It is, nevertheless, annoying to have to wait 10/15 minutes for someone to come over to your table if all you want is a pint of beer and a bag of peanuts.Secondly, a large proportion of the tables were reserved and taken over by people eating. Presumably because of the focus on food over drink but bear in mind that this was around 4.30pm, and there didnt seem to be any way to get a drink without having a table. As I say, a lovely building and good drinks, but it is a little sad to see such a nice pub deviate from its roots of being a haven for the drinking classes looking for a nice afternoon pint after a walk on the Heath.
MoreHad a super good Sunday roast here. Service was friendly (I got seated right away inside… sunshine meant the outside was full). Great place for a bite to eat after exploring the magnificent Highgate Cemetery.
MoreVery nice pub inside and out - food also decent. The accompanying salad to the schnitzel was a bit mean - mostly just a schnitzel! Service was fine. Overall the main plus was its just a very pretty pub.Big negative: the seating under the covered part outside was really uncomfortable - the bench is too high so you can’t reach the ground unless you’re a giant, and the table is at waist height so you’re constantly stopping, and if you’re on the other side you are facing up a slope meaning both options resulted in some aching backs. Would recommend to eat inside, but the seating arrangements outside were just too uncomfortable.
MoreEnjoyed a nice evening at The Flask with old friends. Unfortunately, the food was pretty lousy. I dont recommend that you get the gnocchi and vegetables as a main. It was oily, devoid of flavour and reminiscent of something thrown together in a student flat. Next time I think Ill eat before going there.
MoreWhat a wonderful place to eat. I got bubblegum on my trouser leg from one of the chairs and they couldnt do enough for me bringing vinegar, ice cubed and a cloth. They offered to pay for my dry cleaning bill but I settled for 2 free meals. When I went back today the service was impeccable and the food came swiftly. The guy who serves me was wearing a hat and colourful trainer his name was Jordan I think. He was amazing really conscientious about our time there making sure we were happy and had everything we needed. I felt very special and well looked after. The food was divine I have never had such a tender and succulent steak before. I would recommend this place to any one definitely going back again. If I could give it more stars I would. Thank you to the excellent staff and the lovely manager. I value your service and will be regular customer now.
MoreHad a lovely early dinner at The Flask yesterday after a visit to the nearby Highgate Cemetery. The pub has a nice friendly vibe and every one of the staff we spoke with with were helpful, attentive and cheerful with some laughs with our main server.Service was prompt, both for drinks before dinner and for dinner itself. I had Haddock and chips, my wife had Isle of Wight tomato galette (puff pastry filled with tomatoes and vegand my son had the burger. All of us loved the food and prices were quite reasonable and on a par with London pub meal prices. We will definitely visit again if were in Highgate or nearby and can thoroughly recommend. It was so good to get tasty food and service that was above and beyond the normal mediocrity.Thank you for adding to a great day out.
MoreBy far the best pub in Highgate! Beautiful spot, stunning food (with a chef that really cared that my son and Is nut/egg allergy were catered for without fuss!and the staff are fab, smiling faces everywhere :)
MoreGreat food lovely rustic setting locals vibe but we are from outa town. waiter in sleeveless T had us in stitches. Will visit again. Busy so recommend booking.
MoreRandom pop in, while on a massive walk.Staff were very friendly and attentive, we didnt have a booking but we were really well looked after. Excellent experience
MoreNot allowed to buy a drink at the bar. Only indoor table available on a warm afternoon when scores of empty reserved tables littered the outside yard. If you cant even have a quick drink without having to check in with a front of house, you are no longer visiting a pub. You are visiting just another wannabe restaurant.
MoreOverpriced even for London!£33! for a burger and 2 beers.Watch the service charge automatically appear on your bill as well.Watched 3 people check menu and run....wish we had done the same.Pass this place if you want value.
MoreVisited 29 June.Disappointed with front of house and waiters attitude. Assumptions made and experience left a nasty taste.Unfortunately I am unable to recommend.
MoreThis pub used to be fantastic with a great menu. Unfortunately now staff are dressed as if they are going to the gym and when trying to order they seem unwilling to help bringing the wrong drinks, wrong food and then being very rude. One waitress refused to bring a plate as she said she would need to go to the kitchen to get it so one person had to eat from a side plate. We ordered and waited for the same drinks for 20 minutes and the cocktails were watered down despite the price. Unfortunately a great venue but with some horrific staff - what a shame.
MoreMy family and I have been to the Flask in Highgate a number of times over the last 30 years. This latest time, I found the quality of food had declined. I went for Sunday roast last week. Ordered the lamb shank. The lamb was dry and over cooked. The cheese sauce on the cauliflower was basic, lacked cheese and was watery and thin. The Yorkshire pud left me with the impression it was made the night before. So in all not a particularly good experience.
MoreSorry, but unfortunately The Flask, Highgate, isnt a pub any more, not the kind where you can walk in, order a pint at the bar and find somewhere to sit or stand and chat. Coming out of Covid it implemented a table service only, but management have obviously decided to keep this permananetly and that they can make more money as a restaurant. Disapointed.
MoreSadly disappointed with the food and service. Ordered the Scoble Lane Charcuterie and it didn’t come with the breads mentioned. I asked the server about the different bread and he nodded and went on with his business. Never came back or acknowledged my question even after helping the people sitting right next to us. We also ordered the Fish & Chips and the fish was oily and had the skin on it. The menu said the chips had the skin on it, not the fish.
MoreA very interesting menu with plenty of vegetarian options. The food we had was very tasty and I recommend it. The service was friendly but a little slow and its table service only for which they add 12.5% but there is no mention of this on the menus. I was in too good a mood to make a fuss about it. Good selection of Fullers beers and others, quite a wide range of wines and some classic cocktails too. Chilled vibe at 4-7pm with every table outside taken.
MoreFood here is AMAZING. Not typical pub food, feels higher end, but everything I have here is delicious. Garden is great with a decent covered area and heaters, but you also have the choice to sit out open. Inside it feels a traditional London pub with lots of history.
MoreNice pub and friendly People, to bad that there isnt a picture or in any Other way a little tribute to George Micheal somewhere inside since This was the pub across his house and his local pub. So management.... Tip! Especially since his birthday is on the 25th of june. The Fries were great though. :-)
MoreI have been here a few times and the food has been great, the waiters and waitresses amazing as they were today. Had a nice time, my pork roast was great but my friends beef were very fatty. We told 15 mins b4 our time was up that we had to leave in 15 mins that we were aware of. We said we would have 1 more drink and was told by the same person that the bar was very busy so no time. We requested another drink which came str8 away. We were then told on numerous occasions that the manager was stating we had to hurry up and leave which we couldnt as our bill had numerous items on it from the next table that had left. The waitress and waiter who had been amazing spoke to the manager as there was another table available so it was confusing that the manager was obsessed with us leaving. Thanks to the 2 for being communicative and stopping the end of the lunch being soured
MoreIf you are thinking to be spontaneous don’t bother with this place, with 3 tables available outside they have refused 10 customers in 20 seconds even one couple that wanted to order a drink at the bar! Very arrogant I think as they viudo have make in half a hour a few grands. It’s a pity that with this sunny weather and beautiful outdoors some establishments appreciate customers so little than they make you feel so unwelcome. Thank you Flask all those 4 couples gave business to another pub next door!! They might think that well it’s Highgate they can afford refusing customers after the pandemia !!! I won’t recommend your place next time.
MoreGreat place for a Sunday Roast. One of the best places I have been. A great pint and social drinking in the front gardens.
MoreLovely outdoor area and cute indoors. Lots of choice of drinks and we just had some chips but they were some of the best chips Ive ever had, I bet their other food is amazing too. It was quite pricey though
MoreStaff friendly and helpful. Food quite good especially the chips which were just about perfect. Great atmosphere!
MoreLovely sunny day sat out in the sun and had a few drinks and lunch. Menu shows kcal so I chose a chicken schnitzel over a burger. Really nice with a simple salad. Service was hit and miss.
MoreIf youre up there visiting GMs gaff and looking for something that will help lift your spirits - pop in. Very helpful staff, lovely beer garden (well thats what I call itand decent priced ale of a decent standard. I cant comment on the lagers yet...
MoreWowsers x10, 9 of us Wild Swimmer Ladies had been to the Kenward Ladies pond for a jolly and then went looking for eats. Not having booked, how fortunate we were to be accomodated there. Well, the menu itself was devine, totally spoilt for choice. Each and everyone of us were seriously impressed with the food. Id the chicken caeser starter with a side of jersey royals with seaweed butter as my main, and delighted with it. We were all more than happy with our choices. Add to that the service, just tip top. The staff should be proud of themselves for how attentive they were. 21/05/22 afternoon
MorePerfect location to start our food addiction in the UK. History and atmosphere here were above expectations. Staff was awesome. Food made for lifetime memories. Must visit again.
MoreWonderful historic pub in the quiet part of Highgate. I had the Sunday lunch which was excellent. Fast and friendly service with an excellent wine list.
MoreThis was a delightful pub. Great beer selection. One of the best burgers Ive ever had. Got a starter and pudding too and both were great. I would love to go again. By far the best pub in London.
MoreVery accommodating, and the food was very good. Staff appeared to be hard-pushed (it WAS very busy on a lovely sunny dayleading to long wait time for drinks.Would still go back & recommend to others....
MoreSunday brunch, we didnt book but the staff was very welcoming. We had a lunch outside and we got 3 different Sunday roast. I got the vegetarian one and it was great! Super tasty. No one left unsatisfied by the experience. Ill go back for sure.
MoreGreat food and drink in the heart of Highgate village. What’s not to like?
Awesome outdoor space, decent food and wine list. But bizarre front of house? We were in the area and didn’t have a reservation. Guy at the reception told us that there’s no table available outside. We said that we didn’t mind sitting inside, and he told us that it’s VERY hot inside and that we wouldn’t want to be in there. We went into the pub to check and it was pleasantly chilled for us. We came back to the reception asking for a table for 2 and the guy said that they are VERY busy today and food could take an extra 30 min. We said that it’s fine. We went in; sat down, ordered and ate and everything was fine. The bizarre interaction with the reception guy made us felt like he was trying real hard for us to not enter the premise. Even though everything was perfectly fine. Not sure if he’s trying to set the bar low or what was his intention. The pub would’ve gotten at least smother star if it wasn’t for him, though.
MoreHistoric London bar perfectly situated for a refreshing pint after a stroll around the Highgate cemeteries. Table service only on a Monday afternoon but the sun was shining so we sat outside soaked up some rays, a few beers and had a burger. £88 for three including five pints. Its worth it for the excellent service and the history of the bar which is a warren of snugs and bars. Do make a point of visiting if your in the area.
MoreBest outdoor seating around. Fairly priced and exclusive drinks menu.💯💯😎🍺
MoreWarm friendly pub with attentive staff doing excellent table service. Great food and beer. Wine to suit everyone.
MoreLovely food, great vibe. Fish and chips was excellent, as was the beer, wine and friendly service. The Burrata starter with trufled mushrooms and sourdough was absolutely divine! Must try.
MoreManaged to get a table on a bank holiday and the process of booking was painless through their website. There is the normal 5 pound fee that will be charged for no shows.Easy to get to from the Highgate station but fortunately a short walk for us as we live near by.The setting inside is very cosy, we were lucky to have a table next to the fireplace. It is also a surprisingly large pub.Service was good, just a little slow, the waiter did tell us they were under staffed so that considered it was not a bad experience. They were friendly and tentative. The food was fresh, well presented and tasty. I started with the chicken liver pate and it was one of the best Ive had. The Crab on toast also looked delicious. The mains was the Beef blade that was very tender. At our table was the Mac and cheese, Rib eye and fish and chips as well. Everyone enjoyed their meals.Prices were inline with other pubs and acceptable. Look to spend at least 50 pounds a head.Other than wait times and limited gluten free options on the menu it was an overall great experience. We will return for sure.
MoreA beautiful pub - both inside and out, with various covered areas in the courtyard. Interesting menu and bar snacks, although cannot comment on the food this visit. Very popular - definitely worth booking in advance, particularly at weekends. Friendly and efficient staff.
MoreThe flask is an historic pub located in Highgate and booking is advised there is extensive table seating outside the pub. The wine list is excellent well sourced and well priced. While the food portions could not be called overly generous they were tasty and well presented. The steak tartare was inferior to its french cousin and came brown and premixed instead of pink with a flight of condiments. The cheese board is shown. Overall 8/10. Recommended
MoreFriendly accommodating staff. Drinks were well executed. The triple cooked chips were bold, heavy and delicious.I deduct a star due to the overly commercial café like furniture outside. I think Fullers didnt get this one right. It made the atmosphere a bit stale.
MoreNice food and good service, but the prices are too high for pub-like food. Although roast was superb, even if we are not fans of British kitchen
MoreCosy, traditional village pub with an unusual broken-up layout of small sections and neat little rooms. The bar itself is tight, but there is some standing room and areas to find and sit.
MoreHistoric pub in Highgate - just off the High Street.Large, but slightly crowded outside area, very popular on a sunny day. But, for me, the charm is the dark wood interior and myriad of rooms - even a ‘spare’ bar, shut off behind bullion glass sash windows.Fullers ales and quality drinks that you would expect of the area. Gastro pub food - my pork rib eye on polenta and feta was gorgeous - and my friends’ meals were well received too. Hospitable staff and children friendly.
MoreOne of my favourite pubs of all time and for many years, my local. Great selection of Beers and Wine, fantastic comfort food and an atmosphere that is unique in style as it is in character. A great place to block out work, if not only because mobile reception is shocking inside... And thats a good thing!
