The Ferry is a wonderful building in a fantastic spot in Cookham, overlooking the river. The atmosphere is only heightened by the tasteful decor and lighting. We attended as a family of four with a toddler and everything was fantastic. The service was excellent (Ellie was lovely, polite and friendly in particular, our 17-month-old boy was very taken with her!), the food came promptly and was served to order and piping hot also.Between us we had chicken, fish and a beef burger, all of which were delicious. We have been to other restaurants run by the chain and this is the best of them by far in all of our opinions. Cant wait to come again and many thanks to the chefs and hospitality staff.

Nice location! A place for food not beer. A disappointing generic set of pumps saved by a good menu.

Had lunch today. Lovely outdoor space by river. My husband had gammon steak which was good apparently, but my smoked haddock fishcakes were very poor and didnt taste of fish. I commented on way out as it is a new menu for the pub and was told the fishcakes contained 60% potato and 20% haddock and crab. No wonder they are insipid. I recommend the fishcakes are changed to ones that contain more fish; these should be called potato cakes!! Extremely disappointing

Place is tired. Cushions outside were wet and stained. Ladies toilets not clean. We Booked a table for 4 but had to do bar service outside. Food under par.. paint job on the broken fence looked dreadful. Theyve painted the plants too.On the positive side theManager was quick to rectify our food issue.Wont be back .

The building is absolutely lovely. There is also a easant terrace. Given the age and style of the building I was somewhat surprised at the generic nature of the interior. The staff were generally very pleasant although one member of staff did shout at a customer for trying to open a door to the terrace that continually seemed to lock itself.

Edit to my first 5***** review:Tonight I was very much looking forward to my birthday treat meal. My dad came over specifically from Germany. It was a complete desaster. We were told that there was no beef roast anymore, which was the first disappointment. I then decided for the pork roast with all sides. One of the sides also wasnt available, we agreed to have a coffee later on the house. My dad ordered a steak only to hear the sauce bernaise also wasnt available. When my pork roast and the steaks came, my Yorkshire pudding was missing, so I called the waitress back to tell her. I was then informed that Yorkshire puddings were also out. I said that she never told me this (I wouldve ordered a steak otherwise!), only reaction was "sorry about that". I decided to not make a fuss and started eating my roast without Yorkshire pudding. The roast potatoes were inedible, hard like rocks. Thankfully the potatoes dauphinoise were still available. I have already booked the Christmas special for Xmas Eve but will most likely cancel as I cannot have another special occasion ruined. Very disappointed and did not expect this from The Ferry at all.My initial review:Although literally every single gastro pub we visited during the last few weeks has been a true 5*****, this has to be the best. Outstanding food, drinks, service, atmosphere. Well be very much regulars from now on!

Food and service have always been good here which is why we return to meet friends and family as the location suits us. But it really is time they gave the ladies loo a deep clean! Its probably a good couple of years since we last went, due to covid restrictions, but immediately obvious that things hadnt changed in this regard. The floor and wall tiles look as if they need a power-wash, and as for the backs of the cubical doors, where everyone touches them...😱! To be fair, the sinks and loos themselves are clean enough but there sure is a lot of grime on view when youre seated on the loo or standing by the hand dryer. Im surely not the only person to judge the overall cleanliness and attention to detail of a place by the state of the toilets?

In general, we were very pleased. Food was very good -- we all had Sunday Roasts. There was no still water and a bottle of sparkling was delivered and then some tapwater but given the current heatwave we know there are some shortages of bottled water. Our server Lilly was a charming girl who was very attentive and pleasant to us.

Stopped by for dinner. Sat outside with fantastic views of the river Thames. Had a lovely greeting from the manager. We were served by two lovely and cheerful waitresses, nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was delightful, my lamb rump was cooked to perfection and the trio of cheesecake desserts, just wow.

Very disappointing. The food was very mediocre. The staff were not the friendliest and I found the manager quite rude. This was the second time Ive been recently. I wasnt impressed the last time but thought that it was just an off night so tried again and was equally disappointed. The only thing going for the place is the location but even that doesnt make up for the experience Ive had there on successive visits. Wont be going back

Went for Sunday dinner and booked an inside table, but when we arrived told only outside tables available (it was raining and overcast). Sat under an umbrella on the patio, but looking up covered in cobwebs, dead spiders and flies. Also rats scurrying around under the tables. Food was fine, but not anything to write home about. Mains brought out before we finished our starters. Bathrooms smelt bad, were dirty and really needed some TLC.Staff were all very friendly and tried to make the best of a bad situation so completely not their fault. This used to be a good restaurant, but has sadly been neglected.

Used to be our go to spot when in the area, but felt like the ferry has lost its love. Dirty windows and dead flies all around the windowsills and our table. It was totally empty and we were placed what felt like out of site of the main reaturant (or by a window to entice other customersnot usually a high maintenance kind of girl but our intentions were for dinner, however we only stayed for one drink.Toilets are dated and a bit gross too.Sorry for the bad review but hopefully comments are taken on board

Went to The Ferry, hoping to try their brunch. We were brusquely told that they werent serving brunch to walk-ins, as they were running out of food and we could only have a drink. I was told to go to the bar to our drinks, so followed the server in, only to have her ignore me at the bar and serve someone else who came in after me. I asked if she could take my drinks order too after she took his and was told to wait until she had made their coffees before serving me. Thankfully one of the other servers came over to take my order.Tea was served with the tea bag on the side, not in the pot of water, which was poured before the coffee, so left to cool rather than steeping.Coffee was tasty, which earns them a star, and the view of the river from the terrace will always in beautiful. However, being long-time residents of the area, its sad that The Ferrys service still hasnt improved and will be keeping us away for better, more welcoming restaurants and pubs very nearby.

A pleasant afternoon and evening on a warm Saturday. Was not too busy with tables available inside and outside. Car park is small for the size of the venue but we were lucky and got a space.Party of 5. Had booked in advance with preference for an outside table.Staff did not seem sure of our table allocation but we were eventually seated at an outside table under shade. Bar service was good. Ambiance was pleasant. Food service was good and starters arrived faster than expected. Starters were excellent. Mains arrived not too long after after starters were cleared. Mains were okay but by no means excellent. Star main was the linguine. Burgers were just okay. You know, just a burger. Fish cakes were really disappointing. Complained and got a small discount. All in all, good. An enjoyable visit. Will visit again.

We both had the cheese cake trio pudding which was also delicious. Are waitress Nelly could not have been better. We would definitely drop in again when in the area.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch at The Ferry, a well-worth visit on a day trip from London. The roast is delicious and generous and the fish and chips are top class (very crispy batter and you can tell the tartare sauce and mushy peas are home made!). Highly recommend for you to stop here as you can enjoy beautiful views of the river on the outdoor terrace eating area.

The Ferry Cookham sits in great position by the river. From the website I had high expectations which were a little let down by the exterior. The white paint on the clapboarding is cracking/peeling and the logo is a bit faded. I appreciate that times have been tough but it would have been a good opportunity to redecorate this very visible aspect of the building.Inside its a huge pub with multiple seating areas. The upstairs in particular has river views from several window tables. I should imagine that in summer it gets very busy so advance booking essential. The welcome was friendly and being a bit early for our 12.45pm booking wasnt a problem. We were taken upstairs to the window table Id requested on their online booking system. This was good as quite often these requests either dont get read, or are ignored. Oddly however the table was laid for three and the placements faced into the room not out towards the river. No big deal and we reorganised easily.Menu was straightfoward for a place of this type, and tta was fine as we only wanted a single course of something quick and light. However it would have been good to have seen a special of the day.Food order, service, and quality was fine and payment process prompt unlike many places despite the touchcard technology. My main suggestion for improvement (apart from exterior decorationis the ground floor gents toilet. There are two doors set so close together theyre not easy to open. When the pub is full this must be a problem. And once inside its not that big. I doubt very much Im the first person to remark on this and lockdown would have been a good opportunity to restructure this area to create a much higher quality facility. If I happened to be in the area Id book again, but it wouldnt take much to make me really want to.

Never been before but liked the look of the menu …. They are full of good intention but there were some shortcomings that made it only average , have the rating .Szechwan pepper squid - nope - bland but ok … just not what it was meant to be .No cutleryNo napkinsBrie chicken bacon pie - no Brie that we could taste …I have Diablo pizza which was good …Deserts came and were ok … but not particularly good valueCoffees then arrived 5 minutes after and were tepid , not hot .The staff had the right idea but just need more training , and the food needs to live up to the sophisticated descriptions.Meal for 4Starter mains and deserts . 6 beers£165Ok but not great .Not impressive enough to go again .

Great outdoor area overlooking the river, good food and friendly and helpful staff. A friend recommended this pub a while back and finally decided to give it a go when restrictions were lifted. Many options on the food menu for all tastes an a good variety of drinks too. Im not giving it 5 stars because my steak had severely burnt marks from the grill and they compromised the taste of it.

Popped in for a late sandwich. Good choice off a lunch menu but also a fuller menu if you wanted a substantial meal. Bar looks out over the river, to a boat yard. But can appreciate that in the summer the outdoor seating area would be nice, over looking the river etc. Had the steak sandwich and it was very nice. Cooked well. It was large enough to satisfy! Good selection of drinks behind the bar and all fairly reasonable price wise. Staff were very friendly, especially the barman. Ok now for what was not quite right. The place felt tired. The walls were scuffed, dirty in places. The tables and chairs were also in need of a deep clean. So take some time and clean your chairs and tables. A lick of paint, bathrooms and all and it would be a very welcoming place to spend a warm summer afternoon.
