The Fat Zebra Linden - Bistro in Johannesburg, South Africa
What a gem, friendly and attentive waitress, food was good too.
Arrived close to closing due to exploring nearby but was made very welcome. Bistro type food was fresh, generous portions and not expensive. Great coffees, limited range but nice wines. Unfailingly good desserts.
Service is okay. Had their flapjack mountain and it was incredibly sweet. Otherwise decent place for mimosas.
Yummy food. Amazing staff!!!
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They make sure that you are comfortable. The food is outstanding. The flavours are rich and compliment each other well. The surrounding area and scenery are perfect for a Sunday brunch. Such a relaxed experience. Would highly recommend.
Nice quiet place with good food. Would like to go back to try their breakfast menu.Had a beef burger with chips (9/10).Only negative is that the food took such a long time to come out.
Great breakfast! Quaint, little spot that has an amazing breakfast. The breakfast menu is limited but has a unique touch.French toast I can absolutely recommend!
Great breakfast, with a very friendly waiter. Clean, spacious and wonderful coffee.
Linden is fast becoming a favourite of mine. Visited The Fat Zebra for brekkies and must say..the experience was on point. Daniel our waiter was fantastic, great personality and offers a wow customer experience. Will recommend the Full Monty- value for money
Cute little cafe. Pricing is decent, food is good, presentation is pretty and service is good. Only issue is that parking in the area can be a problem, but that’s at no fault of The Fat Zebra.
I very rarely have a dining experience that completely blows my mind, but The Fat Zebra exceeded all my expectations. The food is exceptional and the manager on duty made us feel like we were visiting an old friend for a great meal and good laugh.. so much so that we spent 7 hours there! Love, love, love it!
Went for a breakfast. I had a fantastic eggs Benedict with wonderful bacon. One of the best Chai tea lattes I have had in Joberg. My fiance had a red latte that was also excellent. I highly recommend a stop here to anyone.
Great food and vibe.Lovely brunch/date spot.Sadly we where there during loadshedding, and were unable to order coffee.
I’ve changed my rating from 5 stars to 1 star. I used to love the restaurant but the last 3 occasions they have not had what I have ordered and today it took 40 minutes for my meal to come and then to be incorrect. When I expressed my need to leave as my daughter was ill, the waiter insisted on educating me about how their 12h00 shift change and why the meal was so long instead of respecting my communication that I needed to leave urgently. He took umbrage to the fact that I could not stay to understand the delay in the meal. It was very poorly handled.
Very nice little place, great food!Very friendly staff.Definitely worth a visit
What an awesome place.Burger special Thursday... did not disappoint. Both food and service were top notch, definitely see us again.
Great, friendly place to have amazing coffee and a good meal.
Small quaint lovely food.
Great place and vibe. They also seem to close on irregular times we got there and they would close the doors in front of us. This was all different times
Super food, magic atmosphere, waiters are top class. Will go again. I had pasta with chiruco and calamari, highly recommend it, superb taste
Lovely, small, cosy breakfast/brunch spot! Food was great- fresh croissants and the flapjacks were amazing! And service was superb!
The only good thing hire is the blankets. The coffee is cold, the rump tast like nothing the crumble chicken like Checkers fast food and the special chips are burned.O and the menus are dirty.Money and time wasted going hire, Checkers food is better than this bump.
Great food and quiet environment. The food was absolutely brilliant and the owner checked in on us just enough times to make our visit memorable.
This place was a score! Incredible environment, food was delicious. Would HIGHLY recommend the salmon eggs Benedict! Oh, and the French toast… go Elvis style! We left so full and satisfied. Probably going again soon😍
A cute small restaurant, was busy when we arrived. The desserts are really good and the food smells amazing.
Yummy food, vibey ambiance. Needs a reservation for brunch. Vegetarian options available. Ps the oats are next level!
Very small venue, but very well prepared food and good service. I would suggest starting non breakfast menu a bit earlier though. Who still eats breakfast at 12 ? But top notch taste
Lovely brunch options. Love the decor. Good service.
Amazing experience, good vibe and amazing and unique breakfast option. Throughly enjoyed it
2 words...Crumpet Mountain!!(see photo)😍Really enjoyed the food and the ambiance here. Its a great place to start your morning with a breakfast/coffee with friends or solo. The customer service was lovely. However, the breakfast menu is a little slim, but, I highly recommend you try the crumpet mountain if youre craving something sweet and filling. I might just come back to try the lunch specials.Ps: Breakfast menu ends at 12h00 & they have really yummy looking desserts and specials.
Intimate and lovely 🌹Their burgers are to live forTheir tea like no otherThe staff amazing
Spectacular service and the place is nice and cosy! Food is amazing and fresh. I think I might be a regular and become a fat zebra myself 😂
I found this place on Google and decided to go there based on the good reviews. Here is another, the breakfast was great, and I loved the look and feel of the place. I would definitely go back.
Very nice food and lovely atmosphere. The waiter went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. We even got our own blankets for our legs.
a quaint little shop located on the streets of Linden. the flapjacks were light and fluffy, and the bacon extra crispy! loved it !!
Enjoyed the vegan, banting burger - everything was fresh, well presented and super tasty. Spicy falafel patty with just the right amount of kick, loved it!
Very Nice! The food was fantastic, and they still managed to prepare it despite loadshedding. The service was very friendly and attentive. I had a halloumi prego and their crispy potatoes which was a solid 10/10, my partner had the mushroom and parmesan pasta which he thoroughly enjoyed, a very large portion as well. And my friend had the chicken strips and crispy potatoes. Which she gave high reviews. We ended off with cheesecake and pavlova. My pavlova was divine, but could have used some more strawberries, my friends cheesecake was not the best though, it did not have enough fruit to go with it and it was very crumbly and not holding its shape well. I always prefer when cheesecakes come with macerated fruit or some type of fruit compote/coulis, otherwise you are just eating straight creamcheese. However, it was overall a lovely outing, atmosphere and delicious food. Will be back!
Had a lovely birthday breakfast at the fat zebra. Food was delicious and service was great !No complaints! Happy customers :)
Great spot for a pit stop. The restaurant is fairly small so I cant imagine what it feels like on a normal day but when I was there it was well ventilated the service and the food were good.I just hope theyll had more fresh juices to their menu. They only had orange juice when I was there.
Lovely vibe delicious food we had breakfast but interesting lunch menu, and wine list too we had crumpets stack and toast peanut butter banana yummy
Would have given 4, but since our vehicle was stolen from where it was parked a little way down the road from the eateries by the school, I felt obliged to deduct 1 for an evident lack in area security. I should have known something was wrong when I stepped out and ALL the car guards had disappeared during broad daylight. We visited the eatery on Saturday from 13h00 to about 15h30. According to the housing complex guard right across from where our vehicle was stolen, this was not a once off incident either and it seems to be a hotspot for vehicle theft. What do eateries do when faced with this type of issue? Can they band together and come up with a solution, can they involve the Linden Police Station to request more patrolling of the street parking areas. Should a security company be approached to patrol the area and put up surveillance cameras? Crime hurts society on levels that can be very far reaching and very damaging. Criminals will go where opportunity waits which provides them with ample time to at leisure, due to the lack of impactful security, do their dirty deeds. This was very brazen in broad daylight. Otherwise The Fat Zebra had good food and very good coffee. Would like to try their breakfast menu, but now not so sure if it is altogether worth losing your vehicle for it. Alternatively perhaps attempt to reserve a VIP parking spot of sorts and sit on the stoep and guard your own wheels? Or perhaps hall out the Vespa and park it on the pavement? Or perhaps Uber there? Anyway we will have to be creative. This is South Africa, you have to be street smart here.
A unique breakfast experience with unusual yet flavorful combinations. The portions were much bigger than expected but did not lack in taste. Its a small and cozy little restaurant which created a homely atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and efficient. I had The Babalaas (sandwichwithout a hangover but Ill definitely be back to test the theory.
A small restaurant with limited seating inside and outside on the verandah which i imagine can be a problem on busier days as they don’t take reservations. Ambience is great as is the service and the food is well prepared and offers something a little different along with the usual fare. The cowboy breakfast is particularly good and a different take on refried beans.
A bustling cafe with fresh and tasty food! If youre looking for a perfect breakfast/brunch spot with your loved ones, this is the spot. Go to Fat Zebra :)
We called last minute, not long before they closed, an we were welcomed like old friends. Wonderful chicken liver starter, phenomenal hamburgers (although with an unusual herb combination), and sublime chips/ cubes potatoes.Staff are high energy, super friendly and well trained. Owners were on hand when we visited, very friendly and happy to chat and suggest from the menu. The cheesecake looked wonderful, but I was too full to try it. Coffees are wonderful and the decor is funky and very personal.
Its an alright place for a small coffee with your girl, food looks good, tastes about 6/10. But as a place for a quiet family lunch, brunch at the weekend Id strongly advice against it. The restaurant is cramped and seems packed at the weekend to the point where the small kitchen easily visible cant cope with orders. We sat for 1.5 hours before getting our food, the service has internment, and thats putting it mildly. However, the location of the restaurant is good. It sits on a clean, quiet, open street in Linden. The drive to it, is pleasant. All in all, Id say this place is good for a coffee during the week.
Cute spot for breakfast. Tasty food and friendly staff. Clearly a popular spot as it was full with people waiting for tables. We found out about it on a blog about good breakfast spots in JHB as we were visiting for the weekend from Cape Town. We liked it but felt the menu was limited and overall feel of the place is a bit tired.
Delicious food, good coffee, reasonably priced. What more can you ask for. What you cant see in the picture, is the peanut butter on the French toast. Delicious!
What a lovely dinner! And such an amazing and wonderful waitron, Craig (Mthandazo). Our welcome to the restaurant was warm and cheerful! It was so great to have someone serve us such wonderful food with such gusto and so knowledgeable when it comes to recommending which dishes to choose! And everything but everything looks and tastes amazing! Big thumbs up to the kitchen, the chef and the amazing waitrons!!! 👍🏼👍🏼
Not a bad little spot for something to eat.Food is really good and the prices are reasonable. The place is child friendly with loads of parking and security available. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the service could have been better, but overall not a bad spot
