One of must the must visits in cork city great food and wonderful atmosphere in the girlish market in the ❤️ of cork city.Down side is its really only for a solo visit and not for more than 2 persons as it s quite close quarters to the next table
Great service, excellent food!! Wishing I lived closer.
It is a beautiful restaurant, top class food, best toasted sandwich and pot of tea in Cork at a very cheap price,The staff so nice and helpful well worth a visit, also in a beautiful location overlooking a busy vibrant Market
We enjoyed a very enjoyable mealin the cafe, can recommend a visit.
The cafe is located in the English Market, love the atmosphere and vibes. Food was okay but little pricey for this little portion. We ordered the Irish Lamb Stew, and the staff offered us splitting into two plates, so we said okay. Then when the bill comes, the price is like doubled. So better ask if they charge any extra services. One portion of lamb stew into two plates, the service charge is extremely crazy. Anyways we wont visit this city again.
Chowder and Toastie both were fabulous...no complaints and nice friendly staff. Will be back soon.
Testy fresh food, and very friendly staff
Our food was sent to the wrong customers, and when the waiting staff recognised the mistake, they accused us first of rejecting the food and handing it to the customers. We had to wait an extra few minutes for our food to be reprepared which we didnt mind, but the cold service we received and the false accusation made us feel very unwelcome.
Disappointing experience and meal. The menu was very basic, nothing special. Having breakfast staples is great, but they didn’t offer anything else, so it was very basic. I wish I spent my last Cork breakfast somewhere else.
We attempted to get a table for five for lunch and were treated extremely rudely by a particular member of staff. My elderly mother was physically moved aside by this particular member of staff. We were then informed we had put the staff under pressure by requesting a table for five. We left without ordering.
I loved this dining experience. The Farmgate Cafe overlooks the Prince’s Street entrance to the English Market and if you grab a balcony seat it’s a great way to watch the world go by.Service is quick and friendly, and the breakfast menu is simple but delicious. I got the fried mushrooms and tomatoes with a side of scrambled eggs and an americano with an extra shot. The eggs and the coffee in particular were very good.I also really enjoyed watching people working and shopping on the ground floor whole I ate.
Absolutely love this place. Hot food is yum and desserts delicious. Everything they do they do it well. Set in awesome surroundings, highly recommended.
I would not go here again. I had the Irish stew. It was boiled meat. No flavour. My order of beer was wrong. Staff tried to get you in and out as quickly as possible. Not friendly at all. There is zero attraction here, Cork must have multiple places was better than this.
Great place to enjoy nice breakfast or brunch and then go see the market below.
Sandwich was tasty but something was a little stale feeling about the bread. Overpriced for what I got- €7 for a egg sandwich
I dont like to be told that i have to leave if i dont keep on ordering. If you have a specific time that someone can sit at your tables then you should inform guests before they sit and order. Completely anti professional and rude.
Delicious food. Very pleasant staff.
Went here for a late lunch and it was still quite busy. Had some paté with delicious sourdough bread and my Dad got a lovely egg sandwich. Good service and with sharing a dessert and an Alprol spritz and three pots of tea came to €40. Would definitely recommend ☺️
Lovely food with a view of the market. Always worth a visit.
Nice lively placeGood taste , FreshEnergetic StaffsPrice $$
Brilliant lunch spot and an even better spot to have a cup of Barrys Tea and survey Corks best tourist attraction
We were 4 and went for lunch on 24 th May. The lunch was very good and carottes cake was perfect like in my memories but the waitress was not smiley and very welcoming and for the bill of 96 euros she charge 50 euros to me and 50 euros to my friend... we saw that when we will go back to my Irish friend.. that it is not nice think see knew we were French ! So if you are French look at the price on a machine when you will pay !
Courteous, efficient, good WiFi, slightly high prices for an Irish stew. The male waiter with the apron had great customer service/craic with customers.Good place to come sit before/after shopping around the English market.
Went for coffee not long ago there. So happy it was finally opened after the pandemic. The day was sunny, had a really nice time
It was a busy Saturday lunchtime so everything a little hectic nevertheless a great spot and lovely staff.Good food served with a big smile.
Great location. Friendly staff who worked well to rectify my lost reservation. Food is average.
Went today for lunch for the first time in many years. Staff were OK except for one waiter ( foreign with beardwho was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Food was very underwhelming. Seafood chowder was watery . Goats cheese ciabatta was average. We were handed a paper well used menu. Also the prices on the paper menu do not tally with the scanned menu prices .
The cafe is right in the heart of the market. Its up a flight of stairs so you have a good view of the market. Toilet facilities are available. We Loved the breakfast maple syrup over French toast and bacon. Reasonably priced and friendly helpful staff. Definitely go again.
Must try if you are in cork.. its within the English market
A charming café hidden away above the English Market in the centre of Cork City. The menu is short, ingredients fresh, the cooking is good and the service friendly.
Just popped in for a toastie & tea, way below average for the price , tea was cold by the time the toastie arrived (20 minsthe ham in the toastie was just fatty rind which I removed, staff seemed unfriendly bar one gentleman .
There are balanced taste of food and cosy atmosphere here. I highly recommend chowder and mushroom risotto
Went here for lunch recently and I have to say it is sublime. The food was simply delicious and the staff were just so friendly. The setting is truly beautiful with a real rustic feel in the air. The staff couldnt have been more helpful and were extremely welcoming. Overall a wonderful lunch.
Absolutely loved the sandwich here. Chicken Caesar was alright. Decent prices. Would definitely visit again.
Heart of the English Market... Good buzz and hustle.. Always feels alive. Good casual offer, soup and sandwiches etc. Restaurant is an option too if you fancy something more substantial. Restaurant is fresh and local which is great, my only complaint is it is perhaps a little too traditional.
If you are a tourist or even a local who wants to rediscover a true traditional Irish cousine, this is the place to go to. Honored to have had an opportunity to work here and see where the magic happens, Ive couldnt recommend it more!Always fresh ingredients coming from the lovely English Market that is in the same building as this restaurant.
Lovely location. We sat at the bar and could look at the market down below. Toasted sandwich was divine and restaurant was well run by staff.
Great restaurant, fresh products are being used and the food is amazing. Prices are more than reasonable and staff is very friendly.
Deeeeelicious food in a unique setting - we had such lovely food and enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere of the market from the balcony above. I had 2 starters - the smoked salmon and the halloumi; both were exceptional. My partner had the stew and loved it. The homemade breads were also delicious - a real winner of a café/restaurant.
Come visit here and youll understand the reason that had this cafe above the historic English market so memorizing. The service was spot on despite of having many patrons (almost full house I would say during my visit). The fish pie I ordered was generous in portion and ingredients were as fresh as you can get from the local markets, seasoned really well and the fish was just flaky and extraordinarily juicy. I would personally come here again even when not craving for food, just so I could enjoy the beautiful architecture of this place.
Really nice Soda bread, crunchy skin with soft bread and balanced herbal flavors. The seafood chowder is very delicious, not too creamy and heavy. Enjoy the food very much. All the pastry looks great. But try to avoid the peak lunch time coz its super busy.
Nice place and nice people, service was better than expected but they may consider serving "tapas" or small size plates as many of the visitors are turists, I wanted try their popular tripe and drisheen but wasnt as hungry to order a regular size course.
We had a meal here before Christmas, we had two very tasty meals, soup with homemade soda bread and a sausage and cheese sandwich. The food was excellent, very fresh and warm. The seating is a little bit crowded but we sat on the stools on the balcony and had a great view of the entrance to the market, we really enjoyed it as you could feel the Christmas atmosphere watching the bustling people below. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the Market!
Not a very nice place. Its very cold up there, even worse on the balcony. The interior is very old and dirty and in dire need of a refurb. The coffee is poor, but at least they top it up for free. I ordered the omelette with salmon and it was basically tasteless. Still, two stars and not just one as the staff was really nice.
The atmosphere was great, staff was friendly, the food was good, however seemed over seasoned.
Great staff, excellent food. Real, wholesome, honest to goodness food. Catch some light entertainment from time to time with an in-house pianist. Lovely atmosphere in Cork’s famous English Market. You’ll capture the true spirit of Cork here; the famous accent and it’s an excellent vantage point over the traders, their banter and their fayre.
Nice price and very delicious! For Michelin 2018, it’s very nice!
A great gem in the rafters above the market order at the counter as you arrive and wait to be seated. Simple menu using ingredients straight from the market. Not always the faster service to get your food but well worth the wait and does give you time to take surrounding.
Great place for lunch, cozy atmosphere one floor above the English market, friendly staff. Definitely recommend!
