This no-frills pub with red-leather banquettes and a garden offers real ales and creative burgers.
Good music doesnt make up for rude staff. Not to mention their racist treatment of my friend. Shame as I was looking forward to this place. Hope the manager gets some training.
The Emperor is supposed to be a place that is open to all communities and even more so if we are Latinos attending this place. The staff behaved racist and violent with us and took us out of the establishment in a very violent and racist way. Never go to this place, it is racist and overbearing. Disappointing and no community for us.
Expected a verry nice stylish latin bar.but it wasnt.rundown bulding dirty toilets. Un friendly staff.and no drescode
Great music mix at night, best Latin night in Cambridge
Home to a great jazz night on Tuesdays
Great bar, nicely decorated, very friendly staff. Nice variety of rum. Food is also very very good. Location is very central and close to all amenities in town. Definitely recommended.
They have Latin music, reggaeton and salsa at night on weekends. Once dinner is over, they move the tables away and Voilà. Its great.
Omg it was a full journey of flavours in my mouth ❤️ I loved the food on Sunday adding the fact that I was doing what I love the most...dancing, it was the perfect Sunday in The Emperor! Was my 1s time of many for sure 🤩
Lovely food and very friendly staff
Friendly and warm environment. Very good food and wonderful Sangria
Decent little pub with a nice selection of drinks and food. Friendly atmosphere and the staffs alright. The only problem i have is that the music can be a little bit too loud at times.
Great place to have a lot of good fun. I had opportunity to listen to live music during the Brazilian carnival. I was in The Emperor just once and I already have plenty of great memories. If you havent been there, now its a good time to visit it. I totally recommend this place.
Very good staff, decent priced drinks good early stop for the night!
Being latinoamerican and loving Latin music, there is no possible way I can deter you more from this place. Horrible mix of music, with no sequence and a lame atent of finding something decent. I will not get mi time wasted here back ever, not my money.
Went for the first time for some late evening drinks and music - what a great place - different vibe here - superb
Amazing authentic Peruvian food. New owner and new Peruvian chef really made a difference. Recommend the ceviche and wings.
Went here for food and stayed for the drinks/ djFood is not very well reflected on their website. I even asked a waiter if they served certain things (as seen on the websiteand she very openly said no ignore the website it’s very out of date. The tapas and other food options displayed would have you think that it was a higher end restaurant during the day.Still a lovely place with very good cocktails. if you stay late enough all the tables get pushed back and the dancing begins. I had a great night out shame about the food
We were super excited to find Peruvian food in Cambridge and it was SO GOOD. Great drinks and great service too.
Very disappointed after poor experiences in Cambridge center pubs, found this very nice place on my way back to the hotel. Nice Latino party, enjoyed it.
The Emporer, last time I went there a few years back it was Spanish tapas style and pretty good.Tonight on the other hand...I honestly cannot remember a worse experience than we have had tonight. We booked a table for 4 and sat outside, the cocktails were OK but every single drink we ordered they came over with a card machine and made us pay upfront for everything. Rather than putting it on a bill as you would expect in a restaurant. It wasnt only us, they were doing this with all of the customers. The last time I ate here maybe a year or more ago it was Spanish tapas and the food was great. Now its a Peruvian menu, for a start its very limited, which would hopefully make you think that the food would be more carefully put together..So very wrong. Before we even ordered our food we had a round of drinks and had to pay for it upfront. Then another waitress came back with one more cocktail and insisted that we hadnt paid for the last round which we had. We gave in and paid again for the first round, now looking back at the bank app which we did show them it proved that we had paid twice for our drinks. We stupidly stayed and ordered food, 4 adults. There was no vegetarian mains so I ordered a starter instead including egg and potato, the rest of the group ordered a mango salad starter, a chicken curry style dish with potato and a burger style thing with chips. After waiting for over 40 minutes they brought out the 2 mains, both cold and the chicken curry dish had an old boiled egg chopped in half and served instead of the potato. We tried to call the attention of the many members of staff but they just avoided eye contact for a while and when they did come over we asked why there was egg on the plate considering it wasnt listed on the menu, the potato was missing and it was cold. They just nodded and walked off.30 minutes later they brought out the 2 starters.Mine consisted of half an old boiled egg, half a boiled potato and was covered in what I can only describe as happy shopper burger sauce with a lettuce leaf. Stone cold. The other mango salad starter consisted of about 5 chunks of tinned mango, a few slices of red onion and a lettuce leaf.Unfortunately for us they had already taken payment (and morefor the meal.We were not being rude in any way but the staff ignored us after serving and we looked around to see that other customers had also left all of their food on their plates uneaten. The place is an absolute disgrace and now I see why they were taking payments upfront, clearly because other customers have refused to pay for such awful food and service.
Very frustrating experience. Walked in and were seated pretty quickly, but after that we were ignored for about 30 minutes. Had planned on ordering a full meal but instead simply had ciders since the staff were more interested in checking their phone behind the bar. Walked down to an actual restaurant so we could get some dinner before everything closed. I don’t ask for a lot when eating out but simply taking an order would’ve been a great start.
We had high expectations coming to this place, the menu looks amazing and the place has 4.5 star review (I am assuming not for much longer)! We ended up being very disappointed! The person that worked the shift, took our drinks order and then never came back. He was behind the bar on his phone the whole time. There was only us and one more table with 3 people.I had to walk over to the bar to ask for our check.I also asked the gentleman, if there was no food being served tonight, since we were being ignored. He said “No, we have food!” And pointed at the menu…Perhaps the owners should reconsider who they let serve their customers!
If you like to be ignored and made to feel unwelcome, then this is the restaurant for you. Was looking forward to trying The Emperors ceviche, but when we arrived at the restaurant, we were ignored for a good few minutes before being seated (restaurant was empty). The waiter seemed to not know what his job required and struggled to explain that the cook wasnt even on the premises even though the kitchen should have been open by then. He didnt even take a drinks order. We were told that it would be a 15-20 min wait before we could even order food. After some time, we eventually found out (from someone else working therethat it would be more like an hour wait so we decided to leave. They werent very apologetic. Have no desire to come back here and be ignored again.
Awful treatment to the clients, high prices of food for bad quality. I used to love this place but since they have changed the employees is not worth it to go.
Good range of drinks have to admit i miss the old columbian food menu but everyones tastes are different but good buzzy atmosphere friendly staff and very busy
We are now in Pizza Express. Uncomfortable s seatin ,poor waiting service and music way too loud and limited gluten free choices. If I could put a minus score I would.
When you have no choice but sit outside due to covid restrictions any place with outdoor heating is a plus. I only got drinks here though so I cant comment on the food.
Looking for a cheap latino night in Cambridges nightlife wasteland. You have come to the right place. The food is moderately priced and tastes amazing, the staff is super nice, they have jugs of Sangria for £19, and g&ts for £5. If I havent convinced you yet, they start playing music after 10pm and the venue turns into a dance floor for the rest of the night.
Tasty unusual food . Good size portions and friendly staff
My husband and i had a lovely tapas today ! The food was nice and hot and the presentation was very good ! We was greeted warmly by Raquel who was very attentive whilst also trying to deal with a very awkward customer ! Well worth a visit !
Where do I start? Sangria was watery and tasteless, (who puts cucumber in a sangria??!Food felt like rations from WWII, they were tasteless, oily and with no flavour. There was meat I wouldnt even give to my dog. From all the dishes we had we only finished 1.It can be a good place for drinks but if you have such an extensive menu a bit of quality is expected.
The emperor is an unassuming place. Upon first glance of the darkened exterior, you are met with walls dripping of mint and table clothes reminiscent of the proudest display of color. As you take your seat, menu in hand, you are met with a hostess who greets you and kindly takes the order for drinks. The menu offers cuisine ranging from Mexico, Cuba, South America and Spain. While the range is excellent what they do by creating delicious dishes is what sets The Emperor apart from any other Latin cuisine within at least a 30 mile radius. The empanadas, the huevos rancheros and the tacos were gone in mere minutes. Not because of an immense appetite but because the food offered something no other place around does. Which is authenticity. For a foodie lost in a sea of monotony, thank you for doing something different!
Awesome place Im Hispanic and its not easy to find authentic Latino food. Everything is freshly made and with amazing flavor makes me feel like home. I would highly recommend. Not only good but service was great very attentive and nice people. Has a great atmosphere.
This is one of my favourite places in Cambridge. It has amazing food! Ive been there several times, I love the combination of Latin and Spanish dishes. Service is nice.
So me and my lovely wife dropped in at 5 minutes to 10 and even though the kitchen was closing they still provided us with great food and drink. Good atmosphere and service was excellent. Viva Emperor Tapas !
Tbh Ive never eaten here, but the dancing is ah-ma-zing! Latin music at its best, staff friendly, security acted swiftly and discreetly when one drunk guy started acting crazy. Drinks reasonably priced as well. Its a yes from me!
Definitely not a place to chat with your mates. Way too loud music. Food was good and fast, but their staff is terrible! Quite rude and the guy completely forgot about my drink if I didnt remind him to bring it over after 15 mins. Less chatting with your mates and more working!!
Great Spanish food. Good athmosphere. Good screen for watching sports. Good service. good for sharing tapas dishes. Beer was good temperature. Spanish staff so feels authentic.
The new menu at the Emperor is great! There are now a bunch of vegetarian options and a lot more dishes to try. The Huevos Rancheros with green and red sauces were amazing! They also have a good selection of Spanish and Latin American wines and the sangria is great. Their Latin American take on tapas is a fun one -- cant wait to go back!
Great music. Very friendly and serviceable staff. They never let our table run out of sangría. They won the five stars. The food was alright, not completely traditional but enjoyable. The after tapas party was great.
Really really nice place! Especially if you are into watching the Spanish league, wowwww the vibes are off the hook. I tried some of their tapas and they tasted scrumptious. Great for meeting up with friends and just a chill evening out. I highly recommend this place.
Service great but the food varied from excellent to questionable. Looks like the Chef is experimenting with tastes and flavours but one of the fish dishes had too many ingredients and was tasteless. Why do tiny pieces of sweet potato for example? Very odd. Reduce options. Pit some favourites on and you will be great
Great food! Tamales were excellent, havent had any since we moved from Texas. We sat outside which was lovely (decor inside is nice but rather bland outside). But the food & company is whats important. Try the fried plantain as a starter. The bar has a nice selection on tap & they have Modelo Especial in a bottle which went well with my tamales.
It’s been awhile since my last visit, and Wow, what a change! Very welcoming and friendly - the food was fantastic, some amazing homemade recipes/sauces that need to be tried! Well done, guys - it’s was like being in Sevilla!! Thank you. X
Amazing Latin American Tapas in Cambridge! Right so thats a strange sentence but seriously this place is a great pub come restaurant and has a really interesting twist. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner for something a bit different to your usual pub grub.
Middling bar. Slightly rubbish selection of beers and theyre not expertly poured: its the kind of place where they might try to serve an ale in a lager glass. Good atmosphere though. Usual tapas problems: fancy, but not much for the price, and you still feel hungry afterwards. At lunchtimes they do burritos, which are much better. If youre after a traditional pub, there are half a dozen within a few minutes walk. If youre after something fancy, this is a decent choice, but the Grain and Hop Store is nicer and not far away.
Authentic latin food, fun atmosphere, great service, best rum and gin selection ive come across so far in the city, ales are always good. Something for everyone. Sure not to be disappointed.
One of my favourite places in Cambridge. It is a lovely local pub run by a Latin Americans. The selection is of tequilas and other Latin drinks is great. The cocktails are tasty and the staff seems to know what they are doing. The food is delicious. Latin tapas is an interesting take on some of the best food from South America. All of my friends from South America are surprised to see it but they all agree that food tastes great and feels authentic. Highly recommended.
Today was my second visit and I am really impressed with the tapas menu; a few more vegetarian tapas would be welcome though.I had a proper pisco sour, delicious! Would definitely recommend it!.
Decent tapas, at fairly good prices. Surrounds are OK, but the venue needs to decide whether it is a restaurant or a pub. A group came for a meal, but were surrounded by people watching football on a big screen to the left of our table. I dont mind eating in a pub, but they are charging restaurant prices for beer and food. I was charged five pounds for a pint of estrella.
