Sprawling contemporary update of an old coaching inn with a large lawned garden and pub menu.
Lovely meal very quiet ,informed staff
Very good Indeed one of the nicest food pubs in the area not cheap but excellent quality and service I will definitely be back
Great pub, really like inside and outside area.
The food is nice but the staff are so miserable I would never go there again. Do yourself a favour and stay away, there are so many more nice places to spend your evening .. GIVE THIS PLACE A MISS
Staff polite and friendly food excellent and not overpriced
What a lovely place. Parking is easy and plenty of space, has a big garden and the interior is very well set out and decorated. Prices are fair and the service very good. Next time I visit ill tey the menu as this also looks very varied and good.
Great food, great customer service and to top it off they are very dog friendly.I’ve been here a few times and the food is always great and they have a very cosy interior.I’ve always sat indoors and they sometimes give doggy treats to our dog which is a very sweet gesture. The pub can be busy so you should book tables in advance.
Had a nice Sunday lunch. Staff friendly, food pretty good.
Went here for a family birthday. Lovely pub. Good value pub food and the staff were amazing, so helpful. Will visit again.
Came here for a works luncheon and we didnt leave it was so good.Food was lovely and cocktails were so refreshing. The back garden has cover for when you are eating and then you can sit in the sun until you are reluctantly ready to leave. Looking forward to returning...
Really nice Pub, a great nice sized garden. Food looked nice, will go back to try it next time.
Attentive staff.. Lovely spacious covered terrace. Food very good.Wooden chairs outside need fixing as very unsteady and wasps, but not pubs fault.
I havent been here in years. Lovely inside. Pretty beer garden. Food standard for the area.
Food was good. Service was quite slow but think this was due to not enough staff. This was a Wednesday evening.
A large group of us went for lunch. Everyone very happy with the food (which is rare when there are so many of us!Lovely garden, lots of choice on the menu. Would definitely return.
Very pleasant sitting outside in the terrace under the enormous awning amongst the flora and trees behind us. The Riesling from South Africa and the Steak, Ale and Mushroom pie with mash, carrots, greens and red wine gravy was very tasty. I wasnt aware of too much honeycomb in the ice cream, but the raspberry ripple ice cream was delicious.
Terrible service. Waited 20 minutes for my drink, asked the waitress if I should go to the bar to collect it and she told me to sit back down and wait. We brought a cake for a colleagues birthday and asked the waitress if she could bring it out during our meal, she never did and I had to make a second journey back to collect it, during which she claimed that she was waiting for us to tell her when to bring it out. Lovely venue, awful service.
Went to this pub for an evening meal for four. We had a lovely meal and drinks. When we had finished are meal we asked for the bill which was left with us. We waited a long time for someone to come back to us so we could pay. We ended up taking the bill to the counter and after some time we were able to pay. On walking back to our car a member of staff came running across the car park accusing us of not paying. We told him we had paid and showed our receipt. We found this to be very embarrassing as there were other customers around us. This to us is not acceptable. Which started off as very nice evening was marred by being accused of not paying our bill.
Sunday Lunch. Its always a pleasure to visit this place. Starters and Mains were very nice, and geneouse portions too. A lovely pub.
Only stopped for a beer which was very nice from a good selection of ales. Staff seemed aloof and I didnt get a welcoming vibe.Bar was empty but restaurant area was half full.
Warm, friendly staff, extremely attentive. I had the steak & mushroom pie which was nice but pastry was abit thick and soggy! Would defo visit again to try something different.
Family meal food good very slow drinks service tho not sure why as it wasnt that busy but drinks bar tender slow would have been a 5 if not for drinks issue
The Duke of York, Ganwick Corner, was hygienically clean and there is plenty of space to park, also disabled parking for customers who have mobility problems. I would highly recommend anyone to visit this Public House. We are planning to go there again.
We had a big table of 11 and were given a private area which was lovely. The food was served efficiently and was very tasty. The portions were generous and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the roast beef which was very tender and tasty. In general a nice traditional pub with good food, a generous car park and easy location.
Went for a drink and stayed for dinner! We visited on a Saturday around 4:30pm and sat outside on the patio. The patio is covered and had heaters and blankets which were very welcome. We liked the look of the menu so ordered food. We did have to wait almost an hour for the food to arrive. The food was really tasty, good size portions and the service staff were lovely. Would definitely go again. The menu changes everyday, the day we were there we found plenty of choice to suit our family. Wonderful atmosphere, clean, lovely finishing touches, friendly staff.
Great food. Service was great.Overall a very good pub/restaurant!
As a local, I have visited twice in the space of a few months. The food was tasty and good quality - when it eventually arrived! Over an hours wait for two main meals on both occasions (the second visit was for a friends birthday mealStaff however very attentive and apologetic, blaming one chef only working in the kitchen. Unfortunately, will not return until they have employed a second chef!
Great setting. Decor good. I ordered the fish cake but it was over cooked and placed on a few limp leaves in a washed out gravy. It was overbearinly salty. Not edible at all. The staff were great and offered me another choice of food. This plate was great.
Appalling serviceNice mealLots of staff with little or no ideaWe waited 35 minutes for someone to take our order and another 25 minutes for the cooed to arrive. Pudding with coffee came 15 minutes after the coffee.Really not impressed.
I had my birthday celebrations here in the library area with 20 people. The staff where all amazing, friendly and efficient and the kitchen staff did a seamless job of getting all courses out together so no one had to wait for ages whilst other where eating. Sorry I can’t remember any names as they deserve a shoutout. The food was great, as always, with a selection that suited everyone from vegans to gluten free people to carnivores , they even have separate menus.I totally recommend the library room if you want an almost private area, we all had a great evening , so thanks to everyone there
This pub used to be one of our favourite places to eat. But for the last few times we have found the menu to be very limited if you are not a red meat-eater! Plus for some strange reason they dont include chicken dishes on certain days, very odd! Today we struggled to find a dish we liked, as theyd run out of some dishes which limited the selection even more. I had battered cod and chips which wasnt great, and my friend had to make do with a bowl of chips and garlic bread. Very disappointed. The two stars are for the environment and for being dog friendly. But we wont come here again to eat. Such a shame.
Poor choice on menu, but OK if you like pigeon or boar!! Lots of things were not available on the menu, & was going to order the fishcake, but refused to pay £12 for one without it being served with nothing else. No chicken dish available, & not a red meat eater, so ended up with just a bowl of chips which were warm! Am v disappointed, as having been several times in the past, & it has been so much better. Its a shame it has gone so downhill
Love this pub/restaurant. Really interesting menu and lots of choice, food and drinks too. Busy restaurant but spacious and didnt feel crowded. Just a great vibe. Special shout out to all the staff who couldnt be more attentive and helpful.. really great service and in such a difficult time of Covid, thank you! Will be back soon!
I really like this pub, thats why I was surprised the Christmas Turkey meal was pretty average. The turkey was over cooked and the roast potatoes were dry and not very tasty. I am however going to give them the benefit of the doubt as another pub where I really like the food, I had a similar experience with our Xmas lunch. I guess its a case of trying to keep this food fresh is going to be hard. Hopefully be back in the new year for their regular menu.
Went for Sunday lunch. Staff very friendly and attentive followed all covid regulations. Very pleased that they had 2 sizes of Roast - small and regular. I ordered the small and it was more than plenty for me...Will go again.
I visited with family on a Sunday evening. We pre booked a table and I am glad we did because it was very popular. After everything I can see why. With a full Sunday roast menu offering all the usual plates but with a few other options probably not found in other restaurants, I felt it was just right. Some places can offer too much. They had a simple childrens menu, how ever a small adult would have been happy with the portion. The prices set were really reasonable for the quality of food and portion size.We also had desert and I have to say having a sweet tooth... the Roulade and salted caramel ice cream was amazing.I Strongly suggest a visit on a Sunday. I have not visited on any other day so I cannot comment. Stand by for a future review of their midweek menu. (If they have one!)
Customer service is everything and the staff here were so polite, friendly and accommodatingFamily enjoyed meals that they ordered served on a hot plate, ranging from roast beef, roast pork, sausage and mash and fish and chips. Good sized portions on the plate.Nice assortment of ice cream.and sobet flavours, would have loved an apple pie/crumble but it was not on the menu settled for scoops of ice cream instead.
Best place to eat in Potters Bar. Came to eat Sunday lunch with my family. Easily the best roast locally to potters Bar/ Barnet . Portions were generous and the food was amazing. We were greeted by the manager who was really friendly with a great sense of humour. The waitresses were also so helpful. The service at this place is brilliant. Would definitely come back time and time again. The chocolate Brownie is worth a visit alone.
Easy booking process. Good Sunday menu and big portions. But also smaller portions available if you not up to it! Nice range of drinks, including ales. Only shortage was a proper range of veg/vegan alternatives: so you make up your own for such a friend. Otherwise fine.
We received the food two hours after ordering. The food was bland and average. We were a big group of people and none of us liked our food. We ordered a variety of dishes from fish and chips to hamburgers. My quiche was plain and just not delicious. They also lack a vegetarian and vegan menu with only a few veggie options.
Yummy Chicken and Ham pie. My husband gluten free version was excellent too. All necessary Coronavirus restrictions in place for our garden lunch.
Lovely pub. COVID compliant and very clean. Service was excellent, food was superb and the atmosphere was perfect. It’s an easy stop right off the M25 for a nice lunch. If it’s a beautiful at would definitely suggest having a eat in the garden.
Absolutely fantastic pub garden near London - beautiful garden, super friendly service and very very tasty food with a great menu! (I can highly recommend the steak burger and the chocolate and orange tart.....So delicious)Thank you to all the staff who could not have done more to make us feel welcome and who were always smiling.Definitely coming back here very soon! 10/10
Nice looking pub with really nice garden. However, not being asked to review the garden alone so heres what I think. Fairly poor selection of beers, not welcoming bar staff at all, almost unnecessarily offputting in fact. When I asked to try an ale before buying (something most good pubs willingly want you to do), after - again - an unnecessary pause - I was given a thimble measure, and then found that a pint of London pride here is nearly £5.50. So not that impressed with choice or service, but garden is very pleasant.
Yummy , fresh and light fish and chips, a bit on the generous side though, 😁. Delicious creme brulé and coffees. Lovely service.Cozy ambience and .... the prettiest small rooms in North London pubs. Have a look at the photos, trust me.Beautiful greenery outside.
Good food attentive staff, the steak was cooked rare as close to how I usually like them and the beef itself was tender and tasty. My only criticism might be that the herb stalks in the soup.
If you are looking for nice and quite place to spend your afternoon, you just found one. The biggest advantage of this pub is very green and huge garden with around 20 tables. Nice, chatty staff and tasty food.
Lovely staff, good selection of food, and very dog friendly!! Good for a log fire too
From walking in to leaving The Duke Of York is amazing. Staff are so friendly and put in lots of effort into being helpful with a smile and they keep everything really clean. I can tell the chef really enjoys cooking, the food is amazing! I had the steak burger and everything was so fresh and full of flavour, the chips are so light and fluffy inside with that slight crispy outer, utterly perfect! Thank you so much, well worth a visit and next time Im passing I will surely go out of my way to dine here again.
First time I have ever been here but I will definitely return. The service was first class the food was superb portions were huge and the choice was excellent. Easy parking and plenty of spaces Warm and cosy and a Wonderful atmosphere10/10 Many thanks to all the lovely staff.
