Oysters and raw seafood meet cosy comfort food at this neighbourhood hangout with Sunday roasts.
This is by far our favourite local eatery. Consistently good food and service, cocktails are out of this world. Booked again in November and December. Over the last year or so weve visited a fair few times and have never been disappointed.
Big claim but this is the best roast in East London. Also the staff are really lovely. Its a polished pub so not very Dalston but if youre after a really tasty roast somewhere you can take your parents or colleagues without having to stress about the vibe then this is the place.
amazing food, thank you to the wonderful chefs and waiters!! looks beautiful too
We went for the half price Friday lunch and really enjoyed it. I had the spinach and ricotta malfatti (smallportion, while he had a Barnsley lamb chop and aubergine with zaatar. Both excellent. The beefheart tomato salad was good but uninspired, the chips were a small but tasty portion. Our desserts were a delicious Snickers ice cream and a disappointing Tarte tatin. The total was £34. We were pleasantly surprised by lovely food and the pub lost some points because the atmosphere was bland and decor shabby. Service was very good. We booked again, this time for Sunday roast.
Fabulous weekly deals at this hidden gem! Love the little patio area. Great wine list!
If I could eat here every day, I would. I think Ive tried over half the menu at this point and can safely say the roast is one of the best in London, the burgers are perfect at the end of a long day at work, and the picantes are exquisite. The staff are lovely too and theres always a nice energy about the place. Highly recommend.
Best beef roast I had in years. Wonderful interior, very nicely designed pub.
Good food. Good selection of beers. No cask ales
Staff were really rude to me as the customer and my friends. Accusing us of sneaking a beer in who never drink beer. If you are looking for the most amazing experience you should not give it a go! Felt really let down.
Fab food, fab service return visit time again highly recommended. Chrisy attention to detail on service is great too!
Nice staff, decent food. Very dog friendly, and everyone was cool about it when our boy had a mini freak out.
Excellent food and service! We will come again.
Delicious gastropub in Dalston with elevated British and European classics, great option for Sunday Roast in East London. Desserts are spectacular and in small individual portions. Outstanding wine selection
A truly excellent Sunday roast. Great selection and every dish was immaculately presented with great flavor. The vegan option of cauliflower was great. Prices are on the higher end for a pub roast but well worth it for the quality.
Top notch boozer in East London..Really good vibe about it, great beer and overall drinks options and the food we saw going past looked great.Deffo somewhere we would go more if we lived a little closer!!
Top-notch food. The service was welcoming, with good advice on the menu and wine but not in-your-face; whats not to love? We all liked the uncluttered but still cosy ambience. The seasonal skrei cod was perfectly cooked; its bed of romescu sauce was flavoursome and a nice, contrasting texture to the firm fish. Friends had the oysters and steaks and were very happy customers. The Café liegeois to die for. Will go again.
Not really a pub, more of a restaurant. But the food was delicious and the service is friendly. Everyone in our group had really good meals on a Thursday evening. Also the bernaise sauce and fries are out of control. YUM
Staff here are so helpful! I was lost in the big city and these guys came to my rescue! Alberto and Kaci were wonderful and took the time to help me out in my time of need! The wine and whisky werent half bad either. Honestly though I am so appreciative for the support. My phone was dead and I was lost and the they took the time to call me a taxi and make sure I was okay. Cant thank you enough! Will be back for dinner on my next visit to London. Cheers 🍻
Really excellent food. Service was a mixed bag: between extremely attentive and a bit slow... but it was new years eve so can be forgiven. Will definitely return for the food and happy hour.
Consistently excellent. The menu is varied and every meal beautifully balanced and perfectly executed. The only drawback is getting there through Hackneys nightmare network of LTNs which have caused more problems than they have cured.
I had a Roastbeef dinner which although it was really good I thought £22:50 was a little bit steep considering starters and puddings were extra. Besides the cost I found that overall in was a nicely presented meal.
The food is delicious and the service is great. We both had a cauliflower roast - it was excellent. We just about made room for the lemon posset and we were very happy we did - it was delicious. Have been here a few times now and the food has always been really good and the staff are always friendly. Definitely recommend.
Amazing food. Scallop starter with a mozzarella salad with peach, chunky tasty pork chop. Maybe some lighter dishes ok the menu too would be nice. Great service. Lovely ambience. A little expensive. But very very nice.
The service was very good friendly staff. The food was absolutely delicious cooked to perfection 🥰
I booked few tables in the garde for a leaving do, Chrissy was very kind and professional, we had a lovely time.Great burgers!! The Duke Burger strongly recommended.
Wonderful as usual! Whether eating in during non-COVID times, or ordering pick up, the burgers are delicious as is the buttery vegetarian malfatti. When you can sit in, the cocktails are also definitely worth a tipple. Highly recommend local gastropub!!
Great food, tasteful ambiance and attentive and friendly service. Really enjoyed the cocktails too, which were £5 a piece during happy hour - so good! Duke of Richmond is a neighborhood gem.
Great restaurant/pub with some gorgeously rich food and drink at reasonable prices.Went here recently for a friends birthday dinner. Great atmosphere blending the pub and restaurant vibe nicely. The food was great, had the fig and goats cheese tart to start with which was not only delicious but also light and crispy. I chased this up with a venison and pork fat burger which was just as good as it sounds. I even had room (just aboutfor the snickers ice cream for dessert, two scoops of that and I was comfortably plump with great food. All the staff were attentive to our table and even with a mistaken order (which could have been anyones mistake tbh as it was busycouldnt have been more accommodating around the replacement dish. I was even comped a drink as an apology which was appreciated. (Apologies I cant mention you by name here as I didnt think to get it before we left). All in all a great evening and great food so would recommend to anyone looking for the next ring above the typical gastro pub dining experience.
Thought wed give this a go being local - had to wait 30minutes for the table wed booked, although other parties of the same size were going in after arriving later, which seemed a bit odd. Overcharged on the bill, but sorted in the end. Food-wise, mozzarella starter was good, burger was decent, but not incredible. A slightly more varied menu wouldve been appreciated. Overall good, but not amazing. Enjoyable candlelit ambience and interior.
Eeerrrr, why is this place and it’s chef/owner Tom not on more people’s radars???? We only had the small bites and starters this trip but, my goodness, they were terrific!!! Those that know will know that Raw Red Sicilian Prawns in rosemary and orange won’t appear on menu “Sunday lunch menus”!!! And they were Great as was the tomato tart and cheesy,shoux-y, oniony balls that I can’t pronounce... like a French onion soup in pastry form!! Delicious!! And I’ve not even mentioned the Crab and Chip Butty!!! No words left. Awesome service (despite what server thought :), great music, great drinks. Great place!! We’ll be back for the evening offers and Sunday lunch. Great vibe!! Awesome food (well done Tom!)
Had my birthday meal here with friends, was really looking forward to it as had previously eaten in Oldroyd which was great. This was total disappointment, wait for foot was around 40 minutes and 4 of the 7 meals were cold, 2 of them were served with completely burnt brioche. When we mentioned this to the waiter, there was no apology or offer of replacement, and we were still charged for everything. Clearly once served good food but this night was a joke, left feeling totally ripped off.
I recently went for a Sunday roast here and was really impressed with the attentive and friendly service. The beef was cooked to perfection and the veggie roast was really tasty too. I would also recommend getting the cauliflower cheese on the side!
Whilst it looks like it, this place is not your typical English pub. Inside is more of a restaurant. We came here for a Sunday roast. The prices here are significantly higher than other pubs in the area and unfortunately the quality of the food was no better. The roast pork was 50% fat to meat ratio. The crackling was so chewy it was inedible and if you want a Yorkshire pudding, be prepared to pay extra for it. Sadly the service was somewhat unorganised and slow. When it came to pay the bill, we realised after paying that we’d been charged a £1 donation to a charity the pub is linked with and a 12.5% service on top of that (we did expect to pay the service, that wasn’t a surprise to us). I wouldn’t come here if you’re looking for a good value Sunday lunch.
The food here is good but the service is really chaotic (although the staff are really friendly). Two floor staff tried to take our orders. We were given the mains before our entrees and we told them, they only returned with the right entree for one person. We were then asked if we wanted gravy with our Sunday roasts (there was a little gravy on our plates), we said yes and was charged extra £2 for the gravy without indicating they cost extra. This is likewise for Yorkshire puddings. Most pubs have gravy and Yorkshire puddings as standard and if they are considered as extras, the floor staff should mention to the guests. Just my two cents worth...
Unfortunately I had a Sunday roast which I was really looking forward to having eaten previously at the Duke of Richmond and the food being superb.I wasn’t going to bother write a review however I am still fuming that I was left to pay an expensive billAfter having complained that the roast beef was so undercooked it was bloody and myself and another member of our party that hadn’t also touched the roast beef, instead of offering some sort Of apology or a replacement meal even some sort of refund, they have basically said oh we are sorry that’s how we cook our beef I have to say I was really disappointed with this. If that’s the case I think they should advertise bloodied roast beef dinner to give you the option to ask for it to be cooked a little more. Also my veg was completely freezing cold so I’m not quite sure why we were also served cold food and it wasn’t heated before being served. We were sat in the corner seated for a table of six near an air vent , therefore I sat with my coat on the whole time it was absolutely freezing ,understaffed so requested for salt and pepper which should’ve been on the table to which took ten minutes to be brought over. And I have to say I was looking forward to a desert as I was still left starving after eating cold vegetables , this was no better it was just some cooked apples tossed in oats with hardly any crumble and the minimalist amount of cream that I had to request extra cream.
Our first UK pub experience! Staff were friendly, a variety of beer on tap and chicken dinner had an incredible mustard sauce. Cozy pub experience with slightly upscale twist on food that doesnt break the bank. Really reminded us of Gastro Pubs back home in Canada. Travelers should check it out!
The staffs are really kind and warm welcome.Food is good and I love this restaurant’s atmosphere. Also highly recommend their beer!
Wow! What a hidden gem! We have been twice for Sunday lunch, it’s been such a high standard of food.To start we had the Olive tart and summer strawberry salad with Jamon. They were both so light and fresh. The lamb main course was incredible and they make cheese Yorkshire pudding that are next level!Sunday lunch in London isn’t normally very good, but I couldn’t recommend this place any more!
What a gorgeous little pub with an lovely inviting vibe. The owner is so easy to talk to and made me feel at ease the moment I turned up there. The food is delicious Im not one for salads but i saw someone else get one so I ordered the same and wasnt disappointed. I liked the place so much Im looking to host some events there. It is a short walk from Darlston station.
good busy pub near London fields. Helpful staff and tasty food.
This is a lovely place for a meal, we came on a Sunday and all had excellent roasts. On the slightly pricey side, but plenty of food and a bit fancier than your average roast. The setting is great as well and the staff are all incredibly friendly and attentive
I went to the Duke of Richmond for New years Eve. We had a fantastic night!!! Great staff and delicious food. 3 amazing courses for £ 55!!! Highly recommended!!!
Simply delicious food. A small menu but that is always a sign of care in the kitchen as far as I am concerned. I had the steak and chips. The chips did not get out of the kitchen as they were considered not up to scratch by chef. Soon sorted but I’d rather chef spotted a problem rather than me having to complain - again a plus. Reasonably value for this quality of food in London. Please like 👍🏼 if you find this review useful.
Fantastic lunch here - great menu and drinks selection. Good service. Worth booking.
Hugely disappointing experience at the Duke of Richmond. Probably the worst meal Ive had in London and I have lived here for 8 years. Service extremely slow and cold AWFUL inedible food, bathrooms had no toilet paper. Ordered the chicken dish - what arrived was a plate with two anaemic looking pieces of chicken - a tiny drumstick and a tiny half thigh - two small roast potatoes and some corn, with one (literallywizened salad leaf and no sauce. With the quality and portion size, it looked like a school canteen lunch for a six year old. For the same price, we could have had a full roast dinner in any pub in London. Chicken arrived completely cold and so we sent it back - waitress seemed indifferent. What then arrived was an even smaller portion of chicken which was so overcooked and dry it was genuinely hard to eat. We tried to voice our disappointment with staff but they clearly did not care - interrupted me mid-sentence with a limp "sorry," then brought the card machine for us to pay!! There is so much choice in the area we were kicking ourselves for having come here. AVOID!
Classy gastropub with high quality food and professional service. It’s a relatively new pub (opened in 2018by Tom Oldroyd (previously chef-director of Polpo and also owner of Oldroyd restaurant in Islington). This cosy neighbourhood pub offers French food made from British ingredients, and a good selection of cocktails, beers and wine. There is also an outside area which catches the afternoon sun and is great for summer evening drinks and snacks. It’s not cheap to eat here but is probably a good value for the quality of food and service you receive.
The crab bun is mighty tasty. The mains were fine (the burger was good). The service was pleasant but had two major failings. Firstly, we waited 20 minutes from ordering our drinks to being served them. Secondly, the mains arrived straight after our starters were cleared (I mean within a minutewhich is a basic timing error by the kitchen.
Oh dear – what a let down. Having previously been with my family for a pretty decent Sunday roast I returned with my work colleagues for a team night out. Service was really slow and the food a massive disappointment. Burgers were coldand overwhelmed with blue cheese. Chips limp and just warm. Lemon sorbet 1 smallscoop half melted, gritty and bland. If that was my business I would be in every day instilling some sandards in the kitchen. Or see if Ramsay is up for a visit to put a rocket up the kitchens proverbial. Will struggle to survive if this is the post hype baseline..
What a lovely place. Friendly staff, good wine list and really excellent food. I had the roast cod, which was delicious, and my husband had the shoulder of pork, which was also excellent, moist and very tasty, and with fabulous cracking. Will definitely be going back.
Very nice for the oyster happy hour. How ever outside the oyster the menu is expensive for what you get. Food is nice but without plus
