The Duke & Coachman Bar - Bar in Leixlip, Ireland
Good atmosphere great beer and tasty food.
Great beers, average serving.
Excellent fish and chips, nice crispy batter and fish not overcooked.
Good pub. Tucked away a little (which is good given how heaving other pubs in the area can getand nice ambience and 1930s decor. Good selection of ales and decent food.
Absolutely lovely, made space for a bigger party and helped in our disabled friend. Really friendly and excellent service.
Hidden away in the back streets of Bloomsbury/Mt Pleasant. Lovely bar staff and excellent Guinness and Black Sheep. Beautiful art deco building on the corner. Booths against the window and what appears to be a separate dining area. Well worth the visit
Lovely pub with lovely staff, great 30s building, and some great streets around it as well
Just a great place, incredibly cool)!
Lovely hidden pub. Food amazing, fresh and great quality. Atmosphere- awesome. Staff welcoming and pleasant which is rear in this area. Definitely will come back.
Nice local pub, friendly staff and plenty of beers on tap.
A superb reflection from a gentler age. Great homemade food, friendly and polite staff. Will visit again. We did visit again- food even better with more choices.
Good beer, notable exterior, and a lovely interior. Warm and cosy, it’s a great example of a period pub which is different from the vast majority of central London pubs. Something different that’s worth visiting.
Loved it!!!.... Beer in jugs! And more importantly bloody good beer! Decent prices too. The 70s/80s revisited. Then we have the big, wonky mirrors and aged tables and chairs. It doesnt get much better than this! If you are a fan of Only Fools and Horses then you MUST visit. I award the gaff, 12 out of 10. ✌️
Always nice yo visit this pub, its one of the best in this part of London.
Great pub and staff. Excellent food and beer. An art deco vibe .
Stopped by last night for the first time in years for a few beers. Still awesome. Still feels like a real pub.
Extremely friendly old school pub selling quality food and good ales , lagers and wine.
What a stunning little pub. As others have mentioned, a 1930s gem packed full of original features and lovely staff as well. Too quiet for a pub with such character, please go and give it some love
Great, unspoilt (i. e. no boring modern decor1930s pub. Super friendly lady there on our visit. A true hidden gem. Like stepping back in time and great music too!
1930s backstreet pub time capsule with many individual booths which were purpose built with terrific separations. Guinness, Doom Bar, Meantime and a great early 60s music playing. The Duke is a winner!
Dinner section service was very good however the vegetarian menu was very limited, I ordered the nut roast which was burnt and bland. The service at the bar however was terrible, a fairly empty pub and yet it took forever for to get the bartenders attention. Quite disappointing really.
Service was a little slow but very friendly. the bacon burger was amazing. This was the best burger I have had in London and one of the best flavor bursts I have had in years. It is just around the corner from the Charles Dickens museum.
This pub is a fantastic gem hidden away in a quiet neighborhood. The food is delicious, daily specials are unique, and a good selection of ales. A short walk from Kings Cross. Lovely 30s decor... A real local treasure.
I am very happy to find myself sharing a consistent view, alongside the majority of "Duke" patrons, regarding its quality. Not only is it run by welcoming and fantastically hard working people and is home to first rate food and beer, but the short shrift it take towards those with inconsistent views on "the Duke", more than anything, represents the fact that this is a supremely well run pub.
Disappointing visit.Firstly let me predict they will reply "this is inconsistent with other reviews". Well its not, there are at least three so far that look to be similar experiences. So to start with the positives: Attractive pub, nice beer served by a friendly barman. Now the negative: A really quite rude lady who snaps at you if you dare walk into the back room "for food only!!" Even though its empty. Very unfriendly. Very unfortunate. Consistent with other reviews.EDIT SINCE REPLY: Predictably the Duke management totally missed the point of my review. I do not want to "do what I like" in your pub. I simply want to be treated like a paying customer and not subject to rudeness. Thank you.
Excellent 1930s pub with a great atmosphere and restaurant. In the basement and available for private parties is a second world war raid raid bunker. Very cool.
The staff in this pub are just fantastic. Spent weeks trying to find the perfect glass for my Guinness, not a word of complaint. They just smiled (to be fair I was a painand then we found the one:if youre in the area then this pub is well worth finding. More pubs just like this please!
This is a very traditional pub with friendly staff and a good selection of ales and largers. The wine is also very good. I have not tried the food so I can not comment on this.
Really like this pub. Unfussy decor with great staff serving very good food. They are friendly helpful and welcoming and always accommodate us well.
Worth coming in to see the largely untouched interior, its like stepping back in time for a pint. The ale was in good condition and the pie I had was very tasty. Friendly staff and ok prices for this part of town.
A charming and unpretentious village pub in Bloomsbury. It is a place frequented by the colourful locals (i.e. uswith oodles of character and atmosphere. The food is very good and the menu has a wide choice. There is also a good variety of drinks on offer and the service is superb. Price wise it is excellent value for money. Home away from home!
Unashamed art deco boozer tucked away from main roads amid the local mews. Good food at decent Central London prices. Extensive specials board. Well kept ales.
This review is based on one individual’s nasty and bullying behaviour, a lady working the bar who made rude unsolicited remarks at my calm and polite friends and kept disappearing for 15-20 minutes at a time. The younger staff are alright, and if it weren’t for this one lady whose behaviour is inconsistent with that of other staff at other visits, this little gem of an Art Deco pub would’ve deserved a full five stars instead of one.Annoyingly, it seems they have taken to invalidating legitimate critiques of their goods and services by replying to all reviews featuring less than 4 stars with some corporate lingo about “subjectivity” and “inconsistency”. Thanks, just the kind of patronising top-down approach you’d like to see after being told “you’re starting to piss me off” in person.
One of my old favourites but standards have slipped. The condition of the Exmoor Gold was mediocre and the Thatchers Gold was warm and flat. To cap it off we we told we couldn’t stand at a certain part of the bar. The lady treated us like dirt, pointing aggressively at a sign saying ‘glass collection area, please order at the bar’ (it doesn’t say no standing). This is what complacency looks like.
Difficult to rate. The bar is probably a 4, but a 9 quid minimum to use a bank card is a ripoff and rather spoils the night. The rest of the world has moved on. Being in an (admittedly beautifulart deco building is no excuse for banking like its the 1930s....
Decent food.beer is ok but the selection could be better.Place can be mobbed so people stand out on the street.Staff are moody as hell. Right turn off their attitude TBH
Nice simple pub in the back streets, usually pretty quiet so good choice if you dont like big crowds. Not eaten there on a while but last time food was honest with good portion size and value.
Another of Londons old pubs untouched for many years except with loving care. The 2 bar staff were delightful and the menu looked very good.
Good local, cosy atmosphere and tasty pub grub. Friendly service, theres a good buzz for after work drinks. There are booths and tables inside and a few tables for outside seating.
A beautiful pub and perhaps the last unmolested pub in the moderne style in London. They keep a very good cellar and the food is good. Most importantly, when the sun cascades through the windows, you are sat in one of the gorgeous booths and Nat King Cole is playing, there are few better places to be.
A very decent boozer. The Art Decco exterior is interesting and the interior is full of surprises: from the spacious wooden booths to the little features like coat hooks. There are 4 decent beers on and a few surprises in the form of 3 different Italian lagers. The staff seem ok and the atmosphere is lovely enough. Recommended.
Fantastic place! Unique atmosphere with so friendly staff! Food is lovely and this is my 5th time here. They never let me down. I will come again. :-)
Been coming here at least twice a week for the last couple of years as its a local pub for me although not the nearest well worth the extra few yards. Staff always friendly and smiling and the pub is cute too. Everyone Ive dragged here love it and have returned. GREAT
I LOVE this pub, the staff, customers & ambiance.... I am always made to feel welcome, both from strangers & staff. please come visit. you will come back again. I promise. I have never had a bad experience whatever other reviewers have posted. in fact Im going to have my next big birthday bash here.. yah!
This is a little hiden gem, in fact its so quiet you could almost forget you were in London. We had some good beer and when you can spill outside and enjoy the sun its something of a little sun trap. This is a great place to while away some time
I’m here very often because that’s the best pub in St Johns Wood. I work near so after work me and part of my colleagues come here to chill out after all day working. The prices are good, the cuisine is yummy and the staff is friendly. What more could you ask for?
DO NOT GO HERE!Staff were extremely rude, as always.Told us to be quiet, even tho we were and was giving them a lot of money for drinks...Boss lady implied we hadnt paid for our food at the table, even tho we all had. We will never go here again - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OVER PRICE DRINKS!
This place has the best burger in London. I simply love it. The meat patty is bit different every day of the week and my favourite is the chilly burger. The only drawback I can think of is the waiting. On average it probably take about 30 min to prepare the burgers. However Keep in mind that I have been only in groups of at lest 4 every time I visited the place.
What a strange little place. Every time I have been in on a weekday its very quiet. All of the 8 other people here on a wet Tuesday were eating so the food must be okay - they dont let you post unless you check allbthe boxes! Ive been here a few times and its always the same. Would like to see it full. The beer might improve in taste if they sold more. Still, worth a look.
Tucked away little Gem, they have a good selection of beers and ales, they do good food but they best thing is they have board games you can play at your tables. It is usually fairly quiet as most people in the area havent found it, if you are wanting a quiet drink then you should probably try finding this place for at least one.
