19 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, London W6 9TA, Kinkala
Waterside pub where Charles II and Nell Gwynne once dined, with the smallest bar room in the world.
Worst Caesar salad I ever had! Some would argue I shouldnt choose a dish such that one in a pub but then its on their menu. Its a shame because its a lovely pub in that area.
Lovely old river side pub, outside seating watching the Thames drift by. Cooked food available and goid range of drinks. Sorted..
A pub steeped in history, with amazing fish and chips in a beautiful riverside setting — perfect for a sunny day. Love that they take reservations for the outside tables as well.
Lovely pub with friendly helpful staff. Really good pub grub, fresh and full of flavour. Interesting history about the place. Well worth a visit.
Charming, tiny and historic pub with good beer, food and some of the finest river views in London
I love this place. A historic pub with a terrace that literally overlooks the Thames. On a busy bank holiday, we requested a table Thames side and were very happily granted our wish. The service is excellent, we were informed of the kitchen closing times. Our table was made available on time. Due to our convoluted order discussions, our waiter check our order 3 times, and everything came perfectly. In its class, a London gastro pub, one of the most beautiful I know.
Wonderful venue with a great range if local, Fullers, beers on cask and keg. The fish and chips was delightful after the Fullers brewery tour. The split level mezzanine was great to sit on in the early September sunshine, watching the busy Hammersmith bridge. The Dove takes some finding from the brewery, but if you head toward the river and remain brave (keep walking past the other pubs, that you come to firstthe Dove awaits. Do it. You wont regret it.
Lovely little historical pub with great food and friendly staff
Still a great place to sit out on the late summer sun.Haven’t been in years, and was disappointed that a pub so close to the Fuller’s brewery couldn’t provide a good pint of Pride. Tasted like the pipes hadn’t been cleaned out in some time. Won’t be hurrying back. Shame.
Loved it. Such a cosy bar. Staff great and drinks served quick.
Iconic pub on the Thames Riverside in Hammersmith. Fullers beers. Back terrace overlooks the river.
Great ambiance fabulous 👌 food. Lovely staff.
Nice pub by river. I had gazpacho which wasnt like others Ive tried as it was like bog Tom tomato juice with big lumps in but all other food good
A cute place by the water. They have a good selection of wine and their haddock is delicious. The team is nice. The outside get easily crowded.
Used to be much better. Unfortunately food has gone down hill and service was a bit disorganised. The plant based options were quite poor. Pea Ravioli looked like there were almost 2 tins of peas, lacked seasoning and was not particularly nice. If youre going to do vegan options and havent got a good chef, stick to vegan burgers and simpler dishes. Chips were excellent though. Starters on menu were quite limited. Says they serve cocktails but drinks menu was limited too and couldnt see any.Service also a bit bizarre, while in middle of deep conversation we were interrupted for our order, our drinks were arriving by another waiter who had to ask us who had what while we were ordering.Despite a good atmosphere, everything else was pretty meh unfortunately.
Horrendous waiting time, simply awful! I wish we never came there. Nice staff (in terms of apologisingbut otherwise it’s just really bad (everything, apart from setting). This was at the time when we chose the place for a Birthday. never again, ever! Unless management changes and realises how bad it is. Drinks were “off” from the bill at the end, but even there they kept one beer in…#finalnail
Great atmosphere and Good service, waitresses and waiters were on form.Food complaint. Salad Ontop of a schnitzel makes the breading soggy.Slicing up a 28 day aged steak and cooking the pieces separately makes the steak tough and hard to eat.Food was a 4/10 (Steamed broccoli at a restaurant?)Would of been a lower score but the bar service and staff were incredibly patient and understanding.
Quaint, ancient riverside pub. Had tables reserved on the terrace for my sisters 60th but I had to leave as it was way too hot! It was during the first heatwave and Im a soft northerner.
Such mixed feelings! I misspent much of my early adult years here.On one hand: best pub in London, but then I’m a west Londoner and live close by. My grandfather and my uncle drank here back in the 1940s and 1960s. Hogarth drank here! I have been drinking here for 20 years. Met many friends and made life decisions here! Truly beautiful. Great views. The terrace overlooking the river was previously an excellent place to meet random strangers and end up chatting for 6 hours. Food often excellent. Drinks are from the Fullers Book of Pub Drinks, that is to say: no groundbreaking ales but solid / reliable menu and wines for the long-haired ones that are passable. Add to that: one of the only pubs that doesn’t launch an assault on its customers’ ears with obnoxious music (or indeed any music); you can hear yourself think! That means you can think of your own music, and words, which is much more fun. Hurrah. On the other hand, they - in a move as cynical as something you might expect from neighbouring Hounslow borough council who banned running along the Thames path for reasons of “COVID” then kept the rule in place after COVID ended - The Dove has seemingly used COVID as an excuse to completely change the existential purpose of a pub. Last time I went in FOR A DRINK they said they don’t accept walk-ins. Yes you read correctly: you cannot simply WALK IN and get a pint. Astonishing. Also the terrace is nowadays barely ever open when I try to go in. Always shutting it at 8pm or something ridiculous. Apparently because of COVID.So tonight I tried to call to “book” (what a horrendous conceptand they didn’t answer the phone. It just rang out end ended with a beeeeeep.I therefore conclude with the following question: is it even a pub any more?I sincerely hope that the managers here see fit to return The Dove to being a normal pub - you know, one where you can walk in and buy a beer and sit wherever the hell you like.Sadly I have not bothered trying to go there for months now, as we live slightly nearer the Old Ship and bothering to go further up the path only to be turned away has more recently not been something I can bring myself to do. Especially given the Old Ship does, admittedly, also have fabulous views over the Thames and an equally decent beer and wine menu (and equally expensive and passable food). Most importantly, I know I can walk-in without having to remember to scan a sodding QR code three days in advance, or whatever you have to do now to walk in for a beer!
Good quality interesting decor and seating in and out garden lighting, water to take as required outside. Nice quiet background pop from 50s to present. Near riverside.Food fabulous, try the Ratatouille with halloumi, best ever. Reasonable prices. Attentive staff.😃
Best pub in London. We sat in the mini bar and necked three double g&TS back to back. Love this pub. Only drink here once a year. Food is good. Beer great and you are down by the river. What could better
Tasty and friendly place, food is great and the beer is cold. Brisket burger is lovely. And it is Not noise and loud.
Found this cracking little place by just wandering around. Quaint, small venue on the Thames. Loved it
I stopped by for a quick drink and ended up staying for a few, the place has a lovely view of the river, is impecable well looked after, and the bar staff are lovely, and best of all my Aperol spritz was on point! (I am often going to different places to try Aperol spritz, and I found this to be a good place for it). I am yet to try the menu, however most dishes that came out while i was there looked nice and decent a portion.
Highly recommended.Very traditional .Cosy ambience. The smallest public bar.Food was amazing......................................................The Doves riverside terrace, you are not just sitting in any old local – you are a part of London’s rich history.A public house has stood on this site since the seventeenth century. Throughout these years our sturdy bar has propped up some of the finest figures of English history......Google
Lovely pub, lovely view and nice food. However some staff are absolutely lovely and some are not. Had a completely flat pint, I asked for another and she just poured the top of it out and tried to give it a head. Went flat again obviously. She was rude. They’re always out of food on a Sunday evening too so make sure to go early!
The location and the pub itself is stunning, and just for that it is probably worth a visit. Otherwise I found the service to be on the poor side (waiters/waitresses being oblivious of you asking for their attention, drinks taking long to come, a rude comment back, taking ages to come after bringing the bill), and the food to be mixed (excellent burgers and chips, but fish didnt taste very fresh which Was a bit off-putting). One star down for each negative, but as said beautiful setting.
Very friendly and helpful staff. We didnt have a booking and wandered in off the street and took a chance. They ended up organizing an impromptu table for us on their patio which has lovely views over the river. The food was fab, highly recommended the gnocchi, it was a stand out.
The Dove!Lovely Pub on the river in Hammersmith very cosy rooms and dehors.But...we visited on the hottest day in England.Rooms didnt have any sort of ventilation and although staff was totally friendly they were not even remotely trained. Confusion reigned at the till and around tables.Just to give you an idea for my Gazpacho I had to ask for a Spoon. Beer was all spilled over the table! And the food was just not aligned to what standards are .Plus... a glass of wine costs.... only 50 pence more than a beer !???? Whats this? A joke?Beer is generally cheaper than wine like.... Much Cheaper.Food was a NoNo. The schnitzel was the size of my palm and watery, for 16 pounds not really acceptable. Gazpacho was ok-ish but the colour was orange and not red :)The Burrata was NOT a Burrata and slightly acidic. They told us they could have replaced it with a salad with "Grated" mozzarella. We underlined that Grated Mozzarella doesnt Exist. So again, yes for a drink on the river NO for everything else. Cheers!
Just had the very best prawn cocktail Ive ever eaten! Delicious sauce and generous portion of prawns. The chips are sensational too.A magical terrace with an unbeatable river view.
Lovely pub, much bigger inside than looks on outside. Website menu has a good allergy filter so you can check before you go, I’m gluten free and they catered well for that. Food was delicious if a bit expensive for what it was, especially the vegetarian dish. Staff were lovely and very dog friendly.
A wonderful pub: overlooking the Thames -- where you can sit and enjoy a pint whilst watching all those hearties sweating it out, straining at their oars, whilst we sing "Rule Britannia". (Incidentally, composed in this very pub in 1740 by Thomas Arne.)Or, of course, you may just prefer quietly to drink your beer and watch the attractive young lady at the table next to you make a spectacle of herself doing the above.Your choice...
A fantastic spot for a pint and a beverage - particularly on a sunny day as the deck and mezzanine are intimate and positioned for lovely views over the Thames. The staff are attentive and truly care for their customers. Will definitely be returning and recommending.
A local legend, a "proper" pub, with a strong claim to being the best pub in Hammersmith! Staff lovely, views of the river dreamy, food and drink delicious and all with a palpable sense of history.
Really nice pub in a great setting on the banks of The Thames. Good selection of drinks and snacks. Only negative is that the bar is Cashless
Location? 💯Atmosphere? 💯Food quality? Beyond 💯 A bit pricey but they are amazing.Beer selection? Very limited, like only 5 taps? They could add more.Outdoor facility? They dont really provide heating outdoors. They have two heaters outside but somehow they usually keep one or both off on a freezing day. Its a big minus during cold seasons. Ironically, I had my skin burnt on a sunny day coz they dont have shades. Its a lovely historic pub overall but there are defo things to improve.
A beautiful pub brimming with history. When I walked in the door the fire was burning and the smell of braised beef cottage pie was in the air. I had planned to go for dinner else where but stopped by for a drink and to see the Britannia sheet music. The atmosphere was wonderful and the menu looked great. I had the lamb which was delicious.
Great tasting food with a nice view of the river if you sit outside in the back. Quite cozy inside as well.
Dropped in last night for a drink and some food. It was busy! Definitely need to book. Ive been here quite a few times over the past couple of decades. Really lovely outdoor seating area with great views of the river. Cosy and traditional is how Id describe the interior of this historic pub. Well worth a visit.
Delicious Sunday Roast by the river in Hammersmith. Very friendly staff in this cute pub with delicious food. Just watch your head when going down the stairs on the way out!!
A great location situated right on the river with an upstairs terrace decorated nicely. The food looked like it had come from a Michelin star chef and tasted like it too! Our evening was made by the friendly staff who went out their way to accommodate us and invite us back. Shall definitely be returning!
Lovely location on the river and lovely food. We had a burger and gnocchi. Was quality rather than quantity but certainly more than enough and good value for London. Nice pint too (Red Fox).
I love their Sunday roast the most. The pub with a history of 500 years (ishalso has a great view over the Thames. Aso nice to sit there and have a few pints. Staff are always friendly and helpful.
Enter The Dove from a narrow alleyway and a cosy, beamed-ceiling, dark wood-panelled delight awaits you. The pub holds the Guinness World Record for the smallest bar room - proudly displayed on a sign on the right as you enter. This room (or snugis, however, just one serving space within a larger, split level building. The outside areas are also on two levels and offer amazing views of the Thames.Fullers ales dominate (the brewery is close-byand the food menu is excellent. One of many lovely pubs along the river but my personal favourite.
Very cozy pub with great staff and food choices (much more than just regular pub food). The location is marvelous right at the Thames with a backyard. Seating for meals is also available. Can get packed quickly. Highly recommended.
My favourite pub in London! The decoration is old-fashioned (in a good way, of course!), they have a tree growing inside the pub, which is awesome, the staff is very friendly and the food is delicious (try their chocolate brownie as desert!), the location on the riverside is also very nice.If you want to have food there, it’s a good idea to call them to book a table, because the pub is quite small.
Happy National Yorkshire Pudding Day!!!And a great place to go for Sunday Roast. The pub is small so make sure you book.Lots of character, history and the roast beef is amazing, Yorkshire Pudding was pretty good too.
A very helpful and friendly staff. It is a very cozy place with a beautiful viue. Amazing...• It dates from the early 18th century.• A number of historical figures have been associated with the pub beside the River Thames. Among these are Graham Greene, Ernest Hemingway, Dylan Thomas and William Morris who lived next door. James Thompson is said to have written the words for the 1740 song Rule, Britannia! there. Pub where Charles II and Nell Gwynne once dined.•The pub appears in the 1930 A. P. Herbert novel The Water Gipsies, loosely disguised as the fictitious The Pigeons.•The front bar of the pub is listed in the Guinness book of Records as the smallest public bar in the United Kingdom."
Visited the lovely pub, read many positive reviews about it and decided to give it a shot. Was warmly welcomed by the staff who were very insightful about the beers and ales. Once I got my pint went outside to their terrace which is facing the river Thames and I was stunned. You can see the hammersmith bridge, barges docked on the river. Do visiti you wont regret it. And as a bonus its dog friendly too.
One of the best pubs on the riverside near Hammersmith to have drinks or dinner with your friends or colleagues. The food is great, can highly recommend their Fish & Chips (see picture below). The place is usually crowded in the evenings after work hours, therefore table reservation is a must if you would like to have your dinner there too.
