Ready-made Japanese food like bento boxes, mix & match salads at the counter or rice bowls.
The Delicatessen By Osawa in Pasadena
Description
Privilege
Its good but service isnt as fast as expected since all food were all made and just need to put in plates together
MoreGreat food, great service. Will come again.
Have only had takeout but all of it was excellent. Especially loved the miso cod.
MoreThe lovely owners of Osawa, bring the same warm service and well prepared dishes the simple neighborhood casual Japanese eats. The beef curry has the traditional Tokyo style mild curry. The soba salad was more soba then salad.
MoreAuthentic food and friendly staff. If you live near Pasadena and dont feel like driving all the way to Little Tokyo or Torrance or Sawtelle Blvd., this is your spot!
MoreVery cute japanese cafe. Good options for lunch set with reasonable price. I order grilled miso salmon bento! Everything are tasty!Come early this place can get busy!!After 2pm to-go only.
MoreGreat food and service. We came with a large party and the staff was super helpful
MoreVery hip casual Japanese dining, super busy during lunch hour, and the food cost more here but the excellent customer service makes up for that.
MoreNice lunch specials!
The beef curry was one of the best Ive had in the States but the Oyakodon was disappointing. It was dry, the eggs were not creamy, and the sauce was overly salty. My mom didnt even finish it. I might go back and try other dishes if Im around the area, but I would steer away from the Oyakodon.
MoreThe sukiyaki here is great, and the specials are fantastic too. We tried the pork chop and loved it! Definitely will be back.Parking is around the building and underground.
MoreTasty! Very nice staff!
Simple menu but delicious. Great service and friendly staff.
Absolutely LOVE this place. The staff were incredibly kind, the service was fast, the atmosphere was incredibly inviting, and most importantly (in my humble opinionthe food was DELICIOUS! The Delicatessen by Osawa is definitely more of an unconventional western-Japanese restaurant, so if you are aiming to receive a more authentic Japanese experience, eat here! I recommend any of the bento boxes, but you cant fail with any of the other dishes as well. Yum!
MoreGreat food. Good energy, can be a little loud
The staff was super cool, food was delicious and filling, and the casual drinks were imported which was awesome. You can also ask for to-go boxes if you dont finish your meal. The bentos are also very pretty and the salmon melts in your mouth. The one thing that would have made me love the place more was if there were other sauces besides soy sauce. Like eel sauce or any variety to compliment plain white rice sides or to put on sushi rolls. Other than that its a nice eating spot when visiting the area and is close to the museum nearby.
MoreGreat place for casual Japanese food done as well as sit down restaurant.
Good food. A little pricey and crowded. Worth it still.
If you love Japanese comfort food, youll love The Delicatessen by Osawa. After coming back from Japan, I was missing Japanese food pretty badly. Luckily I found this place to satisfy my cravings. Its the second restaurant by the same people run Osawa which is also in Pasadena. Where Osawa is more of a make a reservation and sit down kinda restaurant, The Delicatessen is more casual. They have an extremely friendly and professional staff, delicious food thats always on point, and the parking is also validated.
MoreI know here all the time and the foods always awesome and the service is always excellent!
MoreVery friendly host on hand for the dinner hour -- here is welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu offerings!
MoreOMG! This place offers authentic Japanese comfort food. I had beef curry, which was extraordinarily delicious. If I lived nearby, I would come here every day.
MoreDelicious Japanese comfort food, good table layout & service, slightly awkward ordering layout.I had one of the daily specials (udon w/ thin-sliced beefand really enjoyed it. The service was welcoming and helpful, and happy to explain the menu. The restaurant itself is elegantly laid out, except that... maybe theres too many tables, but the line for the order counter is really close to some tables. Like, "you could rest your arms on a diners head" close.
MoreIm a huge fan of Japanese food, and I am also very demanding when it comes to quality. I visited this place with a friend of mine, and I really enjoyed not only the food but also the place. I tried a sort of bento box which had tilapia and a miso soup was also included. Food was very delicious, and I will definitely try this place again. I loved to see how clean was this place, and how the employees care about keeping it clean. I also liked the beverage I tried which you can see in the photos, I ordered the orange one and my friend the green one, and both were really good.
MoreGreat food and service. Try the specials!
Great food in a nice setting, friendly staff.
Nice concept. The beef stew was tasty. The curry was good. Good place for some comforting Japanese dishes.
MoreI submitted an order from yelp, 40 mins later I got the restaurant, finding it was closed. No one called me to cancel my order or told me they had closed, and they just took their customers’ money for granted. Even yelp and google showed they were still in business, but the truth is they closed their restaurant without telling anyone. So I have to call yelp to help me. This is the first time I visit this restaurant, also the last time. Their behavior is not different from cheating customers and taking money from their pocket.
MoreGreat place, great food, the workers are super nice and polite. Very detailed. Ive gone back a hand full of times and Ill be going back more.
MoreThe A-5 wagyu beef udon was delicious. As good as the one Ive had in Japan.
Reminded me of nice comfort food places in Japan. Service was exceptional. Nice that they have vegan options.
MoreExcellent in every way. Great food. Large menu. Friendly. Clean.
Pork katsu with beef curry over rice was excellent. Beef was very tender, curry flavorful and well balanced. Even the miso soup side was particularly tasty, good fermented flavor. They had run out of several fish dishes including a daily special when I got there later in the evening, but they allowed protein substitution for one of the fish set meals.
MoreIts a really good place for lunch, and the price is affordable. Everyone should try, and you will love it.
MoreGreat soba and daily specials, cant wait to try out the curry!
This is one of my favorite places for lunch, and sometimes dinner, in Pasadena. The Deli salads are a delightful contrast of fresh flavors and textures, delicious on the Veggie Don bowl. The Black Cod Don is amazing. The staff is extremely attentive and ready to help if you’re not familiar with the dishes or setup. It can get crowded at lunch so takeout is a good option.
MoreFriendly servers, and good food. Bento lunch deal is great.
I will be coming back here for lunch at least once a week. Its great Japanese food for a very reasonable price point.
More10/10 would order the Chicken Don and whisper in a soothing voice "God Bless Japan" again.
MoreAmazing fresh authentic Japanese food. My coworkers and I eat there once a week.
MoreOnce we entered, we are approached and greeted by one of the friendly staff handing us the menu and explaining the lunch special and bento boxes. They have all the drinks on the open fridge where you can select one of the multiple varieties, from tea, lemonade to konbucha before you place your order. But if you want just plain water, there is a jug on the other side of the wall where all the condiments and disposable utensils are.We ordered the lunch special salmon. We also ordered salmon avocado sushi, potato croquet, crab croquet and chicken karage. The salmon lunch special came with a mini udon bowl. The potato croquet came with a dipping sauce and crispy. The crab croquet taste good and crispy too. The chicken karage was a bit salty for my taste but might be good if matched with plain rice. The lemonade matcha is ok but not special for me.Pricewise, it is a regular price for a Japanese food place. Not really cheap and not very expensive either.
MoreDelicious food ever! I really enjoy it
Went to Delicatessen by Osawa for the first time, this place is like Urban Plates or Tender Greens but for Japanese food. I got the Sukiyaki Donburi, Potato Croquette, and Dungeness Crab Croquette, they were all really delicious!
MoreThey are very focused on the customer and explaining anything you might need to know! I said I couldnt have much soy becaude Im mildly allergic and they accommodated me well even thougb the majority of the stuff on the menu seems to have soy. Delicious!
MoreOh Lord once Ive been here once I know it is a best Japanese faster food restaurant in Pasadena. Five stars service interior and taste.
MoreExpensive and knock off japanese food. Beware of the workers when you ask for validation and I even double check that they did validate my ticket. When you come back to confront with them the worker just say there nothing they can do without an apology. By the way this is too expensive for the kind of cafeteria food. Pretendcious.
MoreGreat authentic Japanese food. Staff is very nice. My favorite Japanese restaurant in town.We tried almost all items from their menu. Food is just delicious. You can taste the quality of ingredients.
MoreA wonderful addition to Pasadena/Lake Ave. The owners and staff are always friendly and the food is fantastic. Everything on the menu is consistently delicious and you can tell they put great care into everything they prepare.
MoreFinally have, soba, udon, rice bowls, and curry here in pasadena!!! I love authentic Japanese rich and nnoodle dishes, but there r none in pasadena!!!! Finally!!! And delicious!!
Moreevery dish i tasted was extremely flavorful ! you may think its a bit more pricey than other comparable restaurants, but I highly recommend giving it a try. well worth it !
