Bregagh Rd, Stranocum, Ballymoney BT53 8PX, Ros Comain
Romantic, atmospheric, tunnel-like avenue of intertwined beech trees, planted in the 18th-century.
We stumbled upon this during our road trip. Neither one of us have seen GoT, but it’s such a cool area that we had to stop.
Nice place. The trees are really nice. You are not allowed to drive directly to them. The parking lot is right next to them, about 100 meters away. The navigation arrows will then lead you directly to the place through the tree alley.
The Dark Hedges are gorgeous Beech Trees that line the road. We were happy we visited on a morning during and off-peak season. So we were the only ones there at first arrival, which was a real treat. Its funny as I am by no means a Game of Thrones fan, but I just knew I wanted to visit the beautiful trees I saw in so many photos about Ireland!Tip: The road itself the trees are on doesnt have thru traffic. Park in the parking area and take a 5 minute walk over to the road by following the marked signage. That route is safer to take.
A magical, fairytale yet eerie location covered in over 200 years old beech trees. Filming location of Game of Thrones. Ample parking and other facilities available at Dark Hedges Experience centre which is very close by. Recommended if you are a Game of Throne fan. Free entry and ideal to go early in the morning if you fancy taking some decent photos without a crowd.
Super beautiful and definitely worth a stop, especially since it’s free. Get there early to avoid people, and definitely walk all the way to the end as it has the best view, and is best for photos in my opinion. Spent about an hour here, including a stop at the coffee shop!
Worth seeing if you are in the area for a photograph or two. Area was used in Game of Thrones for those interested but wouldnt recommend travelling out to only The Dark Hedges. Add it a larger trip to the North of Northern Ireland.
Visited in early afternoon on a Wednesday, we were with a tour bus so when we arrived it was fairly quiet. One thing I will say is try to get ahead of the people you are with on the bus, that way you have the best chance of getting a shot without crowds, sometimes however its unavoidable if there are people already ahead. We spent about 30 minutes here, its great for photographers or those who just want a special portrait shot. Some of the trees are quite impressive and I think its worth a visit.
Fantastic photo opportunity’s. Stunning. Free parking across the road. You cannot park on the road. Be aware that lots of photos being taken so be patient. Worth the wait
This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. It was intended as a compelling landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House. Two centuries later, the trees remain a magnificent sight and have become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland. In fact, the iconic trees have been used as a filming location in HBOs epic series Game of Thrones®, representing the Kingsroad.Featured Scene: Season 2, Episode 1: The North Remembers - On the Kings Road, Arya Stark has escaped from King’s Landing, disguised as a boy. She is with Yoren, Gendry, Hot Pie and others who are to join the Night’s Watch, in a cart, travelling north on the Kingsroad.
Loved the trees as the winds were blowing and you can hear the leaves making that sound brushing up against each other. Just serene! Loved the country feel and cool air. One of the best stops of our day tour!
Beautiful walk lined with blackberries. Took the Paddywagon tour here from Dublin and Paul is a charming story teller.
Beautiful and cool spot to visit while in Northern Ireland. Perfect place to take pics of yourself amongst the tree lined road. The trees (large Beechhave this creepy but beautiful vibe. Worth a visit.
It was beautiful and amazing because the trees are so old... but BECAUSE the trees are so old, about half of them are missing, so in order to get pictures like you see online you had to get a little creative with cropping
A row of beech trees that are quite lovely to look at but as a non-Game of Thrones fan, it wasnt too impactful. Would only recommend seeing them if you understand the impact. It can also be quite crowded, so would recommend coming earlier.
Went here being part of a game of thrones tour me and my wife did and it was a cool sight to see, very beautiful but also quick, you dont need to spend alot of time here at all, maybe 20 minutes as its a pathway with the tree on it. Beautiful none the less
A beautiful and must visit place when in Belfast! Entry is free and the views are stunning. Plenty of on-site parking is available too. The history of how these beautiful trees came about is interesting to know as well. There is a short walk from parking to reach the dark hedges. Highly recommended.
The place is absolutely gorgeous, but people keep coming in with their cars and parking in the middle of it, ruining completely the views. I understand that some people need the road to get to their homes, but maybe a fence or something would be good.Otherwise the place is gorgeous.((There is a house a few meters from the hedges that is SO asymmetrical its painful btw))
I know that there is a link between games of thrones and this place, but as I wasnt into it this had no bearing on my visit. The trees forming the avenue are impressive, and for this reason alone it is worth a visit. There is a free car park nearby, which I recommend using. Do not be like the selfish people who ignored the road closed signs and spoilt the views for others. Also the local farmers do not appreciate people going onto their land, as their signs show.
Even with slight rain, the alley was crowded. Fortunately, we had a bit more time than the tourists who arrived with coaches. Lovely walk down the tree alley.
No need to buy the tickets or pay for car park- because both are freeThey have a massive car park which they don’t even ask for a penny to park there. I have seen this a lot in NI , compared to England, there are many free parking spaces. Hopefully stays the same.If you lucky you will be able to capture the beauty with no crowd at all. Or could wait for a while .Well worth going out for a walk or picturesque park for insta.Wheel chair friendly and they have Cafe but they were closed when we arrived at 18:15 .Highly recommended
Simply beautiful, please know that you cant drive or park through, you must use the Dark Hedges Hotel parking lot and walk. Anytime of the day is a great time for this romantic place.
Its a niCe place for an evening or a morning walk where you get to enjoy the shades of trees covering the roads and making a natural shade along the road. The real view is a bit different from the photos. But its a nice one time visit.
Just a short tree lined lane about a kilometre long, beautiful but nothing special even if game of thrones was filmed here
Iconic spot for fans of Game of ThronesMust see ❤️Not far from Giants Causeway, Ballintoy Harbour and Dunluce CastleThere isnt a carpark or sort ofHave fun
Its best to visit the dark hedges early morning as you can see the beauty without any crowd. Visiting this place no need a parking fee and no entry tickets. A beautiful location worth visiting while you were in Northern Ireland. It takes around minimum 30 minutes for a complete walk but the place has Its own charm to keep you spend more time there. Never feel to leave the place.
The trees are really magical with their weird shapes covering the road from above. There is a small carp park at the south entrance. Its a nice place for pictures and game of thrones was also filmed here if you are interested!
Lovely enjoyed the walk through the lane. Big crowds but if you take your time you will get the perf3ct picture.
I had some friends visiting from the north of England . This was en route to the causeway coast so we put it on the list. It’s actually really lovely and quite pleasant to walk down. Wasn’t at all busy. Parked easily and walked through the trees.
Great place to see. Just to note for those of you driving there. Theres no through road and 2-3 questionable parking spots on the side of road entrance.
Cool place to visit if you are a Game of Thrones fan but it is nothing spectacular. The trees are cool and eerie and the ride to get to them is beautiful.
It was magical. It was a bit crowded but beautiful nonetheless. We got to see very cute fairy garden. The dark hedges were amazing.
Rows of beechtrees planted more than 200 years ago. The location was featured in Game of Thrones season 2 for 8 seconds when Arya Stark escaped from King’s Landing. No tickets required, the location is open 24/7.
I stumbled on The Dark Hedges while driving to the North Coast and took a short diversion to see them. Im not a Game of Thrones fan, but it was good to see this beautiful and famous row of trees. There were quite a few tourists there. You can follow the signs to park for free and take a short signposted 10 minute walk to the hedges. There is no cost. If you want iconic photos you better come when there are no people around. I guess fans of Game of Thrones will travel far to see the hedges. If you are not a fan, and happen to be passing by, they are worth a stop. Extremely sadly many people have carved their names in the tree trunks.
This road is one of the most beautiful roads, but unfortunately it is now closed to traffic, so you have to park about 100 meters away from the beginning of the road and walk there. It is though safer now to make photos like this.
Very scenic place and easy to access to it. However after the recent storms and heavy rains during the winter period the dark hedges path has been damaged and lost few trees. It is very crowded sometimes but it worth to visit it. There is no additional charge to walk through. It is totally free. Next to it there is a nice cozy cafe with beautiful souvenirs. The parking is 100m away. It won’t take you more than 20 minutes to walk through it
Meh! It was a lovely, very pretty farm lane to see but an experience it is not. Neither is it dark. It is just a farm lane with trees growing up overhead. (No, its not even hedges...!?)Thats it!You could have stopped the car for a few seconds at the end of the lane, got your nice photo and job done. Instead the get you to park up in the car park, then the signs take you all around some pathways through what eventually appears to be a garden of a large house, and of course past the obligatory cafe to walk round in almost an entire circle a few yards away from where you parked your car 🤷♀️Total nonesense. If you go it can be a nice photo op but ignore the signs and just walk back down the road... unless of course you actually want a coffee. If they had just signed posted cafe one way and TREES the other we may have gone a grabbed a coffee afterwards.Very underwhelming for all the hype (and yes, I know there is a scene in Game of Thrones filmed there)
Its a nice place even though I think its overrated thanks to Game of Throne. The Dark Hedges is really just a very small road, still if you pass through there I recommend seeing it. If you are very far, it is not worth changing your route.
If you’ve got a spare 15-30 minutes on the way to somewhere else then definitely stop off here for a picture but other than that there is not much to see. There is a nice cafe and restaurant as well but can get a lot of GoT tours that bring waves of people in so it can occasionally get crowded.
Magical place. Went in mid springtime so the leaves had not covered the tree yet. You will have to walk through the cafe and shop area and there is technically no direct path to see the trees. It was still very magical. Make sure you put in the visitors center in your GPS as the destination, as it might bring you to the dark Hedges road and people will not be happy when seeing a car drive down as they are trying to take pictures!
The trees are like fairy tales. The game of thrones fliming location. There is a visiting center where public toilets, coffee/pastry/foods are available. The dark hedge hotel is nearby. Free car parking. No tickets required to visit this place. Worth having a walk on this street and take few photos for memory.
Cool little stop off on our drive around Northern Ireland. Theres a cafe and toilets should they be needed. But it is, ultimately, just a lane of trees. ....heaving with coach trippers and fellow sight seers. Just be patient and time your photos right, though, and you can make it look like you had the place to yourself!
Went here & as part of Kings Road which was partly used for the Game of Thrones.Brilliant scenery as you walk along the grounds to the Dark Hedges.Well worth a visit!!
How fun it was to walk through the Dark Hedges after learning about it being a film location for an episiode in the Game of Thrones! Theres also a cute Fairy Garden to enjoy at the start of the walk. No tickets needed & free parking.
Lovely to experience. Accessible parking, bearing in mind that it is what it is a back road. A beautiful experience and a lovely family walk. The leaves arent on the trees yet but its still very pretty.
Got there at sunset. My other halfs a Game Of Thrones fan. Im not. Its definitely a beautiful sight. However not at its best. Many trees have fallen. Not sure if its the recent storms, but its taken something away from the spectacle. Still worth a trip for a GOT fan. But dont come to Ireland just for this. Theres many other things to do close by. Giants causeway, Bushmills distillery (closed when I wentso bake it into a wider day. And 100% get there at dawn. We saw like 7 people the whole time. So good.
Just Breathtaking! Such a Beautiful Place to visit . The Trees just look Spectacular , a picture doesnt do justice , a must visit . Also a Scene from the Famous "Game Of Thrones " .
I dont know what a Game of Thrones is, but as a road its very pretty. We went in high Covid season and a fog warning, so we got to see it with less people than usual, but still some. Do what you can to try to go when there are no multitudes, its cloudy, and no leafs. it gets so eerie then.
One of the best place for botanist and natural lovers. We walked there and snap shot many photos. Due to winter, the trees are without leaves. Very interesting root system, trunks and branches.
An iconic location well worth a visit. You cant drive along it and have to park some distance away and then walk along a busy road with no footpath. The most effective photos are taken with a zoom lens and with nobody else there. Good luck with that one 🤣
Worth a visit to see these trees for sure. An hour and a bit outside Belfast. The walk through the trees is very short so dont expect to spend too long there but there is a lovely cafe and bathroom to make the trip a lil longer. Lovely photos to be taken.
