Victoria Park, 223 Grove Rd, Bow, London E3 5SN, Tidjikja
Two-floored pub with beer garden, outdoor terraces and quirky, vintage-inspired styling.
Newly refurbished so its a nice place to be. We had the scotch egg to start and that was spot on but the winner is the fish and chips. Very fresh, good portion and tasty. Without a doubt the best fish and chips Ive eaten in a public house. Well done to the team. A little pricy but I left very full and happy I guess cheaper isnt always the best.
Worst experience ever in a London pub!! Appalling service and she is apparently the manager!! The lady in the photo was so rude. We were a fairly large group and we had 6 starving children plus 6 adults. After spending a £150 on drinks she decided she wasnt going to serve US stating "I can not accommodate you" even though she promised me a table at 5pm. Tbh it was probably because our skin was brown. She was ever so nice to all the other customers ( non asianWe will definitely be contacting youngs head office and the owner of the pub. Avoid avoid avoid!!!
Decent pub, friendly staff. What’s not to like
Hi,Ben particularly moved me with his customer service. Jordan has always been an absolute pleasure. Shame customer service does not exist anymore. Apart from the East End. Jordan and Ben are a credit to the team and I have lived in Bow since a child.
Lovely classic pub, nicely done, a lovely atmosphere, delicious food and good service!
Over an hour wait for food, very disappointing meal, arrived warm/cold and not as described. Definitely not worth the money or the wait
Great food and atmosphere. Upstairs balcony is nice and quiet for a family meal.
Nice Youngs pub on the edge of Victoria Park. Spacious, clean and good food and drink selection.
Superb Sunday roast, excellent service. Couldnt be better. Thanks
Lovely pub with a lovely 1st floor spacious corner balcony with tables and seating, overlooking Victoria Park
A nice place to enjoy a drink outside directly opposite Victoria Park. The staff are always very friendly. However, the place lacking a bit of character and atmosphere both before and after the recent refurbishment. Grab a table outside if you can.
You are warned… food dreadful, and slowest I have had in years. Chicken and Farro dish was awful, left most of it despite being hungry. Prices VERY expensive for said food, we got mains 1h45min after arrival.. no joke. Basic starters were served in between, but mains not started until starters cleared in. Chef repeatedly lied about how soon food would arrive. American gent who served us, however, was lovely, and gave us money off. Would return for drinks only, but would never trust the very amateur chef again!
Great pub with next level food. Right next to the park.
I visited as a drinker not a diner and I have no complaints. I will definitely return with many friends.
Sunday roast was very nice. Really liked the pub. Would recommend.
Lovely pub but to much traffic if you are sitting outside for me that is but will go back as I enjoyed the time I spent in there
Nice pub but next time Im there I will sit in the pub and not outside too much traffic to sit outside for me
Beautiful historical pub with a decent selection of drinks. Nice relaxing atmosphere too.
Terrible staff and rude manager. Do not accept any old £50 notes which I had given today from Tesco. No reason given when I asked why? The pub normally accept cash. Literally ruined my day!!!
Beautiful decor, very welcoming and relaxed. Loved the terrace!
I had a good time. Funny barmaid, funny customers but the kitchen closed at 9pm so I had to have an evening meal of posh crisps.
Lovely fathers day lunch with the Family. Thank you Aline for looking after us. Food was great, amazing atmosphere, service was excellent.Definitely recommend 👌
Average pub but highly overpriced - pint of cider & large g+t - £19+Absolute disgrace
One of favourite pubs with great food and atmosphere next to Victoria park
Very friendly staff, great service, very cosy atmosphere, food is bloody delicious. We had fish finger sandwiches and chips and they were excellent.
Arrived for a celebratory drink on a Sunday with my 3 children in their 20’s was made to feel very unwelcome by whom I assume, was the manage, felt like he really didn’t want people of colour in the pub looked very angry, did not say hello, did not smile, no eye contact. The Bartender that did serve us was very nice..we decided to have our drinks outside. Will never drink there again.
Really really fantastic burgers! (meat and vegetarian). The waiting time was long and the burgers perhaps more expensive than in other places but it really matched the quality! Will certainly be back!
They over charged me for the late arriving food I ate after the rest of my table had finished eating and added discretionary service charge on to my payment without informing me.My vegan burger was somehow mixed up with a meat order so I ended up having to eat alone on my table. It wasnt ideal and the waitresses left me chasing as to when my food was coming for the next 20 minutes. They apologised but also joked, it was great when that happened as that meant she got to eat the left over burger - it wasnt for me. There was next also a mix up also happened with my drink order, and mine was the only one that did not arrive with the groups. I had to chase again.I would have let all this slide as the staff were friendly, and i understand mistakes can sometimes happen but the lack of concern about the mix ups crossed a line after I was overcharged for my meal. The girl who was taking my payment on the bill told me shed processed out the vegan burger, so paying for the fish and chips on our bill would be the same price. It wasnt. She also then took the liberty of adding service charge to my total figure which she only told me was added, after my printed receipt showed a much lower figure to the one she processed through my card. It was supposed to be discretionary, and with the service I had, I would have preferred not to have paid!
I had booked the private dining area for my boyfriends surprise 30th birthday and it was fantastic. The room was perfect and we were hosted my Jordan who was brilliant. We had the festive dining menu which was so tasty, see photo of the turkey dinner, everyone cleaned their plates. I would definitely be back here again :)
Vegetarian roast was enjoyable, particularly the spinach/quinoa Wellington. Also liked the option to add extra gravy for no extra charge, though would’ve liked the veges to be hotter 🙏Warm inside and easy to order to the table using the Young’s app. Friendly service from Jordan, thank you 👌
The define themselves as a pub, however, the quality of their kitchen clearly takes them to the level of a full-fledged gastro-pub, an informal bistro, a casual brasserie. From the great classics, such as Fish and Chips or Steak and Ale Pie, to rarer items like the Partridge Sausages. Everything excellently prepared, cooked and nicely plated. Rustic ideas competently executed are never boring, never old-fashioned. An interesting and extensive wine-list would always allow you to find a proper paring for your meal choice. Biggest round of applause for the American gentleman that welcomed us, it has been a while since I have been served this nicely, in any restaurant or pub anywhere. A truly nice, positive person and a complete hospitality professional, essential in my opinion, in a city where so many pubs go for the completely impersonal treatment. A gem, right around the corner of Victoria Park. Kudos
I really liked this place. The food was great and it has options if youre looking for a place to work. Besides, the view is amazing.
What can I say. Appalling from start to finish. The piece de resistance - the sticky toffee pudding (apparently accidentallycovered in mayonnaise - see below for photographic evidence. Avoid at all costs.
We went for a Sunday lunch today, I can’t say I was overly impressed with it. It came out luke warm and it was just very average/not big portions considering it’s £20. All the mains came out at different times over 45 mins, I know we was a big group but kind of unacceptable. Also the staff were quite rude to us when we complained about this and pretty much had a go at me. Won’t be coming back in a hurry 😑
The pub is lovely, such a shame about the vegetarian lentil roast: the Wellington was tasteless, and the dish had literally only 2 roast potatoes. The ‘veggies’ were one half carrot and some little cabbage. I hope they rivisit this dish (especially the lentil flavourless roastbecause it could be so much better.
Situated directly opposite Victoria ParkVery Hipster/Upmarket clientele, so then prices obviously higher in comparison.Felt out of place, no atmosphere inside, outside busy with many of the customers there just what looked like, there to be noticed by the masses walking in & out of the park?, as if it was theee place to be seen, whereas in comparison with the competition in the same area it is very far from it....
Friendly staff, great location right next to Victoria Park with a healthy selection of beers of tap and wines. Also do food but didnt eat when I visited. Maybe next time. Nice open bar with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Really enjoyed my time here and will return.
Lets start with the positive points... The location is great. Just next to the Victoria park and the Canal, both areas to have a nice walk after your Sunday Roast. The place itself is with nice atmosphere, authentic decoration and friendly vibe. The Sunday Roast was a disappointment (sorry). The beef was too hard like a sole, the potetos was okay ish. The Chicken Roast was better and the Veggi was the only one we can say was good.Prices are fair and competitive. The service is good, very friendly and caring.Last point that have to be said and I hope the place will take it to action: The place is using an external app for you to order your food to the table. I DONT want to go to a restaurant, download an app, go with a whole process of registration including email, phone number, password etc... Just for me to order the food to my table. No way. And if you think to mention anything about covid etc... the printed page that advert this app to download was gave to us after switching at least three hands and the drink manus are on the table as casual. If I wanted to order food via an app, Ill use Deliveroo or JustEat.
Nice relaxed vibes and amazing roasts - family friendly, and would suit groups :Would say that the other food weve had doesnt come up to the roasts standards, but still good. Would definitely recommend to peeps
Good job chef!I passed by this place many times but never bothered to sit and try them out till today.I have to say that the whole structure of the menu is really nice.Interesting things and combinations, flavors as well really balanced and cocktails (ok here i have to say they were not hard to make either tho :pwere made pretty good.Chef we loved your food, the soup was fantastic buuuuut the angus crocket things were missing something....this little something....you know :pOverall...yes! 5* good job :)Here is a photo of whatever we left
Great atmosphere and location. Good burgers and sunday roasts!
Comfortable venue, friendly and welcoming staff, awesome choice of boardgames, the fish & chips was delicious - the mushy peas portion was way too small but the fish was great!
+ great food; friendly and entertaining staff- priceyReally enjoyed this spot, the interior and staff were great and the food tasted good.
2 friends and I went to the pub on bank holiday around 12:30am. Nice atmosphere, nice food and friendly waitress . However we had to remind staff to bring our coffees before the food; and the food came with the coffee. No apologies said.Finished our lunch, we were having the dessert when the manager came to our table quite abruptly and placed a reservation sign for the next customers, allowing us to stay no longer than for 30 min. The manager didnt say a thing to us. When we got to the pub there were a quiet few tables available with no reservation sign on them and we were asked to choose a table. We would understand if staff had said that the table was reserved before we sat or if the manager had spoken to us to offer another table or asked if it was ok to place the reservation sign on the table. The manager was a bit rude and could have been more friendly. Thats all.
Friendly service & lovely food. We went on a Sunday and ordered the beef roast, which was tasty and filling. It was quite busy but still had a nice atmosphere. I would recommend booking a table before you go.
Two stars because the staff are friendly but the menu is a tragedy. I mistakenly paid £9.50 for the hot smoked salmon “Breakfast” item which is also a starter on the main menu. And so small it works out at over £1 per mouthful. I did mention this to the manager who gave me some extra food on the house to fill my stomach a little more. My partners’ Royal Breakfast was also disappointing, stale bread, cheap black pudding. Fingers crossed the management improve the menu.
Great place but massively understaffed. Food was good but pricey. The veg option of sweet potato and goats cheese salad was extremely heavy as salads go. But they had very rare find of game sausage cassoulet and abundance of fries after a few service cock ups. The zatar chicken thigh starter photod was big but dry for an appetizer. Decor nice and good amount of outside seating opposite Victoria park so great for a nice sunny day
Came here for Sunday roast, my lamb was so nicely cooked; the vege, roasted potatoes are good match to it, the pudding perfected it. My husband beef was tender and tasty too. Ended with sweet apple crumble with ice cream.Dont forget to try the cocktails too.The lady serving us is very friendly and helpful! Would definitely come back. Victoria Park is next to it, so can go for a walk after the meal :)
A delightful pub come restaurant next to Victoria Park. Good beer and great staff, lovely rooms and balconies upstairs (22), theyre numbered! A very welcoming place, I thoroughly recommend a visit
Good atmosphere inside, lovely terrace overlooking the park.Bartenders could be more polite. When they prepared my 3 Aperol Spritzs, they finished the bottle half way through the last cocktail and filled it up with prosecco. Not good. Especially for paying £8 per cocktail!
