The Cross Keys - in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom
Foods pretty decent, service fair. Can take a little while to arrive from time to time but better that than arriving in seconds after being microwaved.
Value for money accommodation in a convenient location with good quality food and drink available in the adjoining bar and restaurant
Lovely old pub with good grub on the main Guisborough to Middlesbrough Road. Plenty on your plate. Sunday lunch a favourite .
Staff very nice and helpful. Comfortable beds and room Bathroom could do with a little attention ie base where you stand for a shower was brown in places. Ceiling had lots of paint flaking off. Nothing that could not be fixed easily would definitely stay again. Nice breakfast
Great staff who are helpful and friendly the hotel is clean and tidy ( but could do a with a do over / refresh I would gladly stay there again .
Enjoyed a short break here. Breakfast were lovely and fresh. Rooms comfortable and clean. Staff very helpful. Just a little tired !
The hotel part - the check in was friendly and efficient and all my requests were taken care of .The restaurant side was slow and the food not very inspiring
Have just stayed here for one night and was so impressed by very pleasant and helpful staff. The hotel was immaculate. So clean and well presented. My room was all it should be. The best fish and chip supper Ive ever had. I have nothing but praise for this hotel. Hope to stay here again sometime. Well doneSue Dalley
Nice pub/hotel chain in Guisborough off a busy main dual carriageway (be careful when pulling in if you havent been before and indicate early for other cars safety).Nice rustic setting with a lovely view of Roseberry Topping (before its ruined by a caravan park 🙄). Staff are friendly and welcome. Food is good quality. Nice atmosphere. On the flipside, as a scran man I found the portions a little meagre (compared to, say, the Norman Conquest down the road which provides massive portions at cheaper prices). Prices are therefore quite dear in this regard. Wait time for food was quite long too, despite it being relatively quiet (5pm on a Thursday).Overall, brilliant surroundings and atmosphere but the actual food side could be better.
Beth was a delight, very attentive and quick with service, food was lovely definitely go again.
We enjoyed a lovely stay at the stylish Cross Keys Hotel, Guisborough. Therooms, restaurant and bar area have a ‘boutique’ style feel and we were really impressed with the high standard of presentation and hygiene. All of the staff gave us a warm welcome. Anthony the Manager and Lee in the restaurant offered brilliant customer service. We would highly recommend staying at this hotel and enjoying the restaurant, bar and garden during your visit.
Had a really pleasant meal here, great food, friendly and efficient staff. None of this was a surprise, we chose after reading reviews. Thanks!
Beer was on form. Food treated great and was a good selection. Korean BBQ chicken and Squid starters, with Belly Pork and Bass Risotto mains. Staff really friendly.
Good food, and friendly staff. Did forget 2 drinks once though.
Its pleasant enough, just nothing for the children outside and Im old enough to remember the good old days of the amazing outdoor slide built into the hill!
We popped in for an early dinner and were accommodated straight away. Good service and friendly staff. Good food. Husband loved his steak and ale pie.
Absolutely amazing food and lovely staffWould really recommend
What lovely food, atmosphere and staff. In particular Joe. He was just on it. The whole experience was 5* . Will definitely be back. Thankyou 😍
The last time we went to the Cross Keys we had an average meal with average service,.Tonight we went for dinner and it was awesome, every course was fantastic.....presented incredibly well and very flavoursome.Furthermore the young man who looked after us, Joe was excellent......he was very attentive, knew his stuff and had a lovely personality. He is a credit to the Crross Keys, good staff like Joe are hard to find.Thank you for a fab meal, and thank you Joe for making is a great experience.
Just had a super meal at The Cross Keys. Reasonably priced and the food was gorgeous. Plus served by the very friendly Joe. Highly recommended it. We will be back again. Thanks Joe. 😁
Just want to say what a star you have in Sharon. Arrived today (23/6around 5 o clock and as we were approaching she came out to meet us to say electricity was off and they were having problems. She arranged for us to get 2 glasses of wine and put things in place to be able to pay cash. Our drinks were delivered to us by her while we sat outside. Sharon even noted we had my dog with us and brought him treats and fresh water with a bowl when she brought our drinks. You just don’t see service like this very often these days. Exceptional customer service Sharon. Thank you from myself, Sue and my little fella Zimba.
Excellent beef rib our lass is very particular when it comes to food and she said perfect the price is competitive and the staff nice and friendly and professional a lovely designed pub with plenty outside seating areas
VERY DISAPPOINTING MEALAbsolutely appalling service. We booked for Sunday lunch. We were slightly early and were told we couldn’t be seated when there were clearly empty tables but apparently our table still had ppl on it. When we eventually got seated we didn’t get our designated table anyway. Ordered our food (2 course). Starters were average and just Luke warm. Then we had a 50 minute wait and wasn’t until I complained that the main arrived. Our main which was a very poor Sunday lunch. This arrived Luke warm and not very appetising. The only decent part of this was the beef. All other meats tasted processed. All the veg potatoes and Yorkshire pudding tasted frozen and not home cooked. Went to pay the bill and I was hugely over charged. They forgot to take the deposit off and overcharged for each course which did get sorted out. It was a very bad experience as I had guests up for the weekend and they were travelling back home they were massively delayed by the bad service. I WOULD NOT recommend going there for a meal.
Lovely Sunday Lunch and beautifully cooked. The staff were helpful and courteous. Its in a lovely setting with views of the Cleveland Hills and outdoor seating if the weather is fine. Highly recommend 👌
We stayed here for a nearby wedding and it was perfect! Really comfortable bed and the room had plenty of space to get ready. They were able to let us check in early and the breakfast in the morning was great.
Pleasant interior with some character. Our meal was good, thank you we enjoyed it. Staff forgot us after our main course despite bringing us dessert menus, & discussing we would be ordering dessert as we were brought the menus. Only 2 tables including us were present by this time. In the end we left & the person who served us took our payment. No comment re failing to return to take our order, no comment re had everything been okhad we enjoyed our meal. She had checked this earlier during our main course. It wasnt a busy session - weekday & late lunchtime. A pity, as we get little opportunity to eat out on weekdays and hadnt been here for while. A little more customer care would have been nice. 4 staff present when we left - 2 during our time there so not run off their feet.
Lovely food, great staff and service what more could we ask, we will of course return probably again and again thanks Anthony and crew
Nice little find, booked because of price and we needed somewhere to stay for work. Very comfortable room, probably an ex Premier Inn that had gone through a refurb. Didnt use the restaurant and bar as arrived late but it looked fine. Would use again.
Came in today and received a warm and friendly greeting by the lovely staff. Ordered the garlic bread which tasted beautifully as always as we always order, then things went downhill.Waited and waited for our order. A couple came in and sat down then another couple came in and 10 minutes later party of 8 arrived a good 20 minutes after we did and all got served before us which is when two of us got up and went outside waiting for the third of us 3 to join us in going elsewhere. When he texted us that it had arrived finally! The beef was pink and almost still mooing like our friends meat was. Vegetables were cold like the meat, and could not eat the meal. Asked for the Yorkshire pudding assuming it was an option for the dish it arrived as an extra and arrived cool. Thinking on Id have to say the whole meal was and the plates were clearly left ignored and I suppose it was due to the party of 8 (served before us as I said beforebut however there were enough staff to lend a hand rather than hang around at the seating area chit chatting and letting the young waiters do it all the poor lads.Anybody that knows me will say that I never leave my plate empty but on this occasion I did (because in some places where it says all you can eat is a personal challenge!)Upon paying we were asked how it was and upon telling her she looked around to see if it was alright to offer a discount while she was being observed and clearly making her look nervous. So like other sarky replies youve given to other peoples reviews, I look forward to receiving mine.RegardsDavid.
Have to say have just had the worst meal ever at The Cross Keys GuisboroughIn the beginning we where served by a very polite young man then unfortunately went down hill from there. After having starters the main meal took forever to arrive only to be served luke warm and several items coldHaving waited an extreme long time for the main course to arrive with other customers arriving after us getting served first the meal arrived with very little apologiesThe sirloin of beef I ordered which im not sure saw an oven at all to cook as it was served raw and tough to eat. If this is served pink the chef needs to cook it pink not blue and should state this on the menu so guests are aware of the cooking condition of the meatOver cooked vegetables n potatoesIt was the first meal Ive had at the cross keys unedible.Although this was amended on paying the bill no sincere apologies given or any details to taken to be fed back to chef
Lovely pub and staff. Food was great and was a really warm welcoming place The manager also informed us there are monthly car meets there for vintage cars. Give it a try!
Came her for lunch with my family on random trip out. Food was amazing nicest belly pork I’ve ever had shame I’m not from the area and can’t come every week
There were 12 of us and we all enjoyed our meals, piping hot, generous portions, lovely atmosphere and very welcoming and attentive staff. Cant wait to go back.
Good location for access to Middleborough and the east coast. Located on the dual carriageway so a car is needed to explore. The pub has an adjoing hotel, both of which are good. Food was the highlight which was to a very high standard for both breakfast and dinner. Finally the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Excellent service. Everywhere nice and clean. Good selection of menus. Really enjoyed our stay thank you
Good menu choice i had the mixed grill husband had hakeStarters me korean bbq chicken strips husband had squid all very delicious
Lovely service and delicious food, consistent with other Chef & Brewer pubs weve been to. Well worth the drive from Middlesbrough.
Quite posh too posh for me food was all fancy things not a typical pub meal, staff were really friendly though so that was nice. The veg was really nice but I wasnt a fan of the other bits which is not to say its not good just not my taste.
We booked in for a stay Saturday, had fantastic food and fantastic service especially LUCY. Lovely atmosphere and decor we certainly will be returning again. Thank you for a lovely evening very warm and welcoming atmosphere.
A well established place to stay or romantic meal out lovely beers tonics top quality food with lovely friendly staff who no how to look after you or your party with humour 😀 food is allways hot and plenty
Had a Christmas meal here with some friends early in December. I havent been in this place for a long time and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it looks. The meal in itself was fine but was not very warm - one of our group asked for it to be returned to the kitchen to be warmed up. It was a shame as the staff had been so friendly and attentive.
One of the Best places for a nice relaxed quiet meal, somewhere cleann,Great friendly customer service and has a nice view of roseberry topping. During Christmas season they do the best game meats and also a lovely pint 👍🏼👍🏼 not to expensive but paying a little extra for a more delightful meal is worth it.
We went for a family gathering. We were shon promptly to our table. We were informed which meals were unavailable due to supply issues. There was a good selection of drinks and were served promptly . The staff were attentive to some of the requirements but not over attentive. The food was well cooked and very tasty.Overall it was reasonably priced and would certainly return in the near future.
Absolutely fantastic. We went here for a family meal for my mums birthday. There was 6 of us there. We all got starters mains as well as desserts. We all really enjoyed it the food was perfect couldnt complain about anything at all. The server was great too.Would highly recommend. Would definitely go back again A*****
I usually eat at the Cross keys quite regularly as its one of my favourite places until Thursday night. We went for tea and I ordered the caesar salad with steak. When it came it was literally 6 salad leaves with large anchovies laid along them and a few croutons. The steak was very small. As this cost £16 I felt it was not value for money so I ask for a different meal. I waited a long time for my meal to come, my partner had finished his meal. But from the minute I sent back my food I received no service at all. Apart from eventually bringing my food I was not spoken to. I was not not offered any condiments, any drinks or asked if the food was OK. Just ignored. I am so disappointed
Aww it was so beautiful sat outside sunshine beautiful setting. Staff amazingly helpful. So polite. The Sunday dinner was cooked perfect. Far too big for my stomach lol I did my best. Too good to waste. Wow well done to chef staff and all.. Really lifted my spirits in such a lovely position.
This is ok, not great. Located right next to an A road, it is very noisy for sleep. We arrived late at night, with a huge car park, you won’t have bother getting a space. The outside seating was really pretty, with the lights dangling from the trees. We got our key from the night Porter and grabbed some snacks from the vending machine (contactless card payment accepted). The room was alright, functional and clean looking. I was not impressed by the dirty bath towel, that is disgusting and clearly was missed by housekeeping. Also, the TV did not work; switches on but no channels? Weird and irritating.I didn’t get any sleep, because I opened the window for fresh air, so every car going past woke me up, with the noise and the headlights.Breakfast- the staff were friendly and quick to serve. Only problem was the loud dance music being played in the kitchen, this wasn’t that nice during breakfast. The breakfast itself was a bit naff; cheap and nasty sausage, the mushrooms were rubbery. I just think it could have been a bit more pleasant, but you can’t win them all.The coffee was decent.Except for the cooked breakfast, the continental one was open, grabbed two croissants and some fruit juice. This place should be better, considering it belongs to a huge company like Greene King. I wouldn’t return here.
Great place in beautiful surroundings. Booked the family room for the night so we could prolong our north Yorkshire visit. Lovely clean room, not that child friendly, lots of corners and sharp edges to be wary of. Only one socket available for charging phones and tablets. Ample supply of tea, coffee, sugar etc. Nice fluffy white towels. Signs of wear and tear on the bathroom but didnt spoil our stay at all.Had a two course meal in the restaurant, can definitely recommend. Great food, reasonably priced. Lovely staff that couldnt be more helpful. Would love to visit again 😁
Great service friendly staff. Superb quality in food 5 stars keep it up
Newly refurbished, its charming and modern.. Menu is ideal with something for everyone at a great price, I loved the gin menu.. Will definitely be back to try pies..
