Fabulous stay, booked the 1 night stay with dinner. Went for the Thai, amazing location and experience. Stayed in "tiny room which was just right, quirky decor and opulent bathroom. Was buzzing with guests in the evening, thoroughly enjoyed !
We dropped in for food and drinks without a reservation and were looked after by Patrick with exceptional courtesy and professionalism, nothing being too much trouble. Highly recommended
Very beautiful and unique hotel with fascinating bedrooms. The hotel has a nice farm where you can walk through. The lunch menu was Asian food which was nice, especially the aubergine dish. The salted caramel desert was amazing. The staff there were very nice. I had a Thai massage which was just okay…the masseuse wasn’t pleasant.
We had the seven course taster menu the food was lovely 5 star very nice but wouldnt do it again after see the lovely food coming out of the main menu. We were placed off the bar in a side red room. It was so hot even the staff was moaning about it being hot. They have big leather table clothes which hang to the floor and made us even hotter. The lack of light was terrbible we were placed on a table with no light at all above and with only one candle on a table of six. We had to use our mobile phone cameras to read the menu and after had to ask for another single candle. Tge tables were placed to close together we had to mive them down the room to get out. One if the two tables was a different height which i find very strange when you ment to be a top class restaurant. Drink prices were different from the bar to sitting down eating very strange but very very over priced. I always judge a place by their toilets and even though yes there was a party that night they needed a deep clean. Very beautiful place but Im afraid I will not be returning it didnt scream out to me I must go again.
Lovely hotel and the halloween event was well organised, good entertainment and rooms nice , high price without some small gestures you would expect , nocomplimentary drinks in room and no mini bar options , breakfast not included in a very expensive room , although room was quirky very dark for being able to get ready . Also had Thai massage , massage was standard but blinds left open when changing into a restaurant area and no scent or music played so was distracted by noise outside which was not best atmosphere and really overpriced for massage in general
We chose The Crazy Bear as our wedding venue and it couldnt be any better!Food, drinks, venue itself was amazing, the level of service what we experienced was 5 starCommunication between us and event managers was in another level - didnt had to worry about anything that day.I couldnt imagine better place to have your special dayThank you Crazy Bear 🐻
Rooms were not as big as we expected. Also no baths in rooms as per pictures. Our deal was supposed to include a 3 course meal but actually only included a main component of the main course. Sides were supplemental charges. Cheapest bottle of wine was £30. Quality of food was disappointing. Service was not always very friendly. No tea and coffee making facilities in room. Beautiful surroundings and decor but all in all a bit disappointing. Wouldnt go again even with a deal.
I had my wedding here back in July and it was a dream. The venue is perfect, the food is the best wedding food you will ever have and the layout of the venue allows for the perfect atmosphere for all your guests. I highly recommend this place for a nice dinner, a night stay or wedding/any event! Thank you to all the amazing staff for making our special day the best ever!
Where do I start with this experience? We had booked the Groupon 12 course dinner, which was disappointing beyond words. Firstly, the voucher is a complete con - what you receive is a cheap, takeaway style 3 course meal - definitely not discounted (as there isnt a menu to be seen and it seems everyone has booked the restaurant under the same guise). The restaurant is tiny, badly decorated room with no atmosphere and people packed onto one another. The food itself was greasy, lacking flavour - with an attempt to make up for this with volume.Upon finishing the meal, we were charged £5 for water, which was deceptively left on our table as though it was included in our meal. Further, we were charged £16 service for the beyond underwhelming experience.Outside the restaurant, I found the same strange decor and atmosphere. To sum up, I was mortified by this experience and even mortified that I feel the wool was pulled over my eyes by a Groupon voucher!I would highly recommend anyone avoid this restaurant and hotel, which is based on a complete con. There are many restaurants and hotel nearby that offer better food and staying options at a lower price
Delicious food and friendly staff. Good entertainment. The wine list was disappointing - fairly cheap or poorly reviewed wines (according to Vivinomassively marked up - I would recommend whoever is in charge of the wine list to research some better reds. Also a better craft beer selection is recommended.
Overpriced and extremely uncomfortable restaurant, mediocre food, decor like bad episode of changing rooms. Paid over £600 for one night and a meal and they still charged for a bottle of water on top.Stayed in a suite in the Garden House, which has paper thin walls and we were subjected to the sounds of the guy next door being sick for 90 mins in his bathroom at 1:30am, which was as loud as if he was in our bathroom. For a custom built house it’s shocking on many levels. I was surprised as the amount of crushed velvet on every available surface should have had some impact as a sound barrier….Left an item of clothing in the room after we checked out, a week later and chasing 4 times, still no help or confirmation that they have it.Raised all of these concerns to staff on check out and no follow up, other than to be told when chasing that I should have emailed rather than speaking to a member of staff and that they are all very busy and don’t have time to get back to previous guests.Had heard mixed reviews before going and now know why.
We had afternoon tea as a 60th birthday treat..so someone else paid. It which was delicious. A very interesting hotel /restaurant with interesting decor and amazing gardens. An wonderful experience.
Food was excellent quality. Decoration and outdoor seating created a great atmosphere.Lady manager with the white shirt serving outside needs customer service training- very moody and quite unpleasant, made us feel quite unwelcome. Also she was training a new staff member and talking about house keeping over everyone else. Ruined the beautiful setting.
Myself and my partner Matt got married at The Crazy Bear Stadhampton this weekend, the staff were fantastic! We couldnt have asked for better service and the manager Alex was the most incredible person to us both. He went out of his way to ensure we always had everything we needed.
Had the English menu and food was ok . Expected more when paying for that price so it was abit disappointed . Cocktails were about £15 each for a small glass 🍸 . Seats were over crowded in the English restaurant and it was hot 🥵. Outdoor Atmosphere and decoration were good & special but the table / furniture was wobbly 😬 and need updating. It was a good place / restaurant for photography and a good experience but probably won’t be going back as you can find better quality of food in oxford for that price .
Attended a wedding service in the "Meadow" and it was stunning. The setting was amazing, the staff hugely helpful and the food absolutely fantastic.
Incredible Thai food, absolutely delicious! Great cocktails too! Would very much recommend!!
Review for restaurant only. What an odd place. On the one hand, the atmosphere of the enclosed garden space, the service (largelyand the food were all really excellent. We ordered off the Thai menu and it was first-rate, perhaps some of the best Thai food wed ever had. Lovely cocktails, especially the Old Fashioneds. Friendly, attentive service on what seemed to be low staff numbers. However, prices were surprisingly high, even for Oxfordshire. Had we not had the 50%-off lunch offer on our side, we wouldnt have been so satisfied. Coupled with this, the inside seating area (for both restaurantswas dingy - cramped, dark and inexplicably smelly, like your local boozer that hasnt been cleaned of beer stains for a week. Thats why we chose to sit outside, and luckily the weather obliged.Overall, a real mixed bag. Self-consciously quirky decor and fancy service and seating does not London prices make. But we felt like we made the most of it.
Such good service, taking care of our grandson with his allergy.Great food. Book early to avoid disappointment.
Style over substance. Bar is understaffed and slow with staff who have zero ‘customer facing skills’. Waiters and waitresses bring out the wrong menus. Customers are (for some unfathomable reasonunable to order drinks from the bar and put the tab on the table bill. The English restaurant is boiling hot with no ventilation. The whole place is dysfunctional and over-priced. We left before we ordered food and had an excellent meal in Thame.
Completely over priced and so many hidden extras which are not clear when you book the dinner, bed and breakfast package. Average food at best. Staff friendly but they have no idea how billing works. Watch out as they also take unauthorised payments after! I would not recommended this place to anyone and would not return.
One of the worst place we ever went to. Room was tidy. And a very dark and depressing place to be. The food was nasty and raw chicken. And the staff are very unprofessional. And do not care about you as a guest.
I visited years ago and thought it was fantastic. Came back to celebrate a birthday and it felt poorly maintained and expensive for the quality of food and service. The room we stayed in had stains to the ceiling, badly broken tiling and missing electrics. Asked for a bath in the room which there was but didnt appreciate that meant the toilet too!!! Dont expect privacy!!
Brilliant atmosphere, with cosey dining area, a beautiful bar, a covered dining area and large garden.Great speed and service, and great quality food.Only down side, not baby friendly, with no baby changing - but manageable :)
Extremely disappointed. Dont waste your money. Not all its made out to be. Money could be spent in some other beautiful hotel. Service to customers is abysmal. 4 emails with no response to anything. Horrible room. No privacy in the bathroom at all. Door didnt lock. Expensive drinks. You do not stay in the hotel but a re-vamped house down the road. Has live in neighbors which feels very uncomfortable when coming in and out. Bottom Line - BOOK SOMEHWERE ELSE.
I went for a summer party event with buffet dinner and performances.Thai food buffet was of very good quality, I enjoyed almost all the dishes. And performances (singing/dancingwere very entertaining and there was a great vibe. Definitely recommend it :)
Really nice food and pleasant staff. The only issues I have is that the bottled water left on the table is £5 a bottle, I could understand if it was requested and nicely chilled. But you would assume it was complimentary being it was already on the table prior to being seated. Also a service charge is added to the entire bill, which makes the bottled water more expensive.
We had Sunday lunch here yesterday on the 24th usually you cant fault it dont know what happened yesterday but the service was exceptionally slow took over half hour to clear our plates from main course we had flies land o on our food as we was sat by the doors in the glass house and couldnt eat most of the main course complaned but nothing was done except for apologies very poor yesterday unfortunately but I must add usually excellent
This is not a 5star Hotel and definitely not worth £249 a night for a suite. No tea or coffee in the room the size of the beds are poor, shower floods the whole bathroom ,the AC wasn’t working and if your over 5”11 this is not the hotel for you the also the private courtyard for the room is full of weeds and unkept with a unpleasant view of the petrol station. The Thai Restaurants food was very nice I can’t fault it but the layout and the seating wasn’t comfortable. We were meant to stay for two nights but left a day early as we couldn’t stay in these conditions.
Place has pretty much become an Instagram Restaurant. You go there to take some pics and show off that you went.Theres no denying that visually it is a really unique and charming place. But everything else about the visit was a disappointment. The food was okay, but nobody was blown away. At a more reasonable price I wouldnt be bothered by that in the slightest, but The Crazy Bear has become one of the most expensive menus Ive seen outside of central London. Theres definitely a noticeable gap between price and value. Also had various issues with service: Forgetful servers, multiple over-charges on the bill; not really representative of the 13.5% service charge...The furniture also seems to be chosen for aesthetic appeal over comfort. A nice place to be seen sitting, but not really a nice place to sit. Especially after 2 hours on a knobbly picnic bench made from natural dead wood.Even on the set menu we ended up paying about £70-80 a head for average food, massively overpriced drinks, sub par service, and a round of backaches...Weve been fond of this place for probably a decade or so as a family, but decided after our recent visit that it might be our last, at least for a long while.
Had lunch! Stunning venue and fantastic menu. Thoroughly enjoyed the pace of service, lack of pressure and excellent food. Will return!
Extremely disappointed. The first time I have ever felt compelled to write a bad review for a hotel. I slept a total of 1 hour whilst there for a night. Could hear every sound from upstairs, not sound proofed at all. Music began blasting through the ceiling at 4am. I had ordered a bottle of champagne which wasn’t there on arrival too. Another sham ‘Instagram destination’. In all hotels I’ve EVER stayed at (regardless of the star ratingthis has been hands down the worst night sleep I’ve ever had. Shocking.
What a find this was! We checked in, in a London bus, which was a new one for us, great idea and really cool. We opted for a suite which is in a converted house a short journey along the road, we left the car at Crazy Bear and a private chauffeur drove us along to the house where our room was situated. The room was absolutely stunning, super quiet and relaxing. We arranged with the chauffeur to collect us at 8pm as our table was booked for 9pm. We decided to dine in the Thai restaurant, the food was remarkable and the gentleman who served us was amazing. We took advantage of 50% off Champagne Wednesday’s.
Absolutely beautiful location. Very quaint, but beautiful and surprisingly spacious. Fresh air and food. Out door heaters, blankets and lighting by evening is beautiful. Lots of parking at the back this is also where reception area is look for the big red bus.
Our son and daughter in law held their wedding there. It was absolutely fantastic.Foods amazing ,as a venue they couldnt do enough for us. Different and original in a gorgeous setting.
My partner and I got food poisoning from the very cramped over hyped Thai restaurant. When we told management about this they assured us their audit company found no signs of fault after a thorough inspection……2 weeks after our visit. Brilliant. Not even a good will gesture of a partial refund after a ruined weekend where I spent a fortune. AVOID!!
We’ve been a couple of times now, once for the 7 course tasting menu and again for Sunday lunch.Service was exceptional both times with a vast wine and drinks menu. The venue and setting needs to be seen to be believed with a lot going on decor wise. Restaurant feeling in places and lively pub in others.7 course tasting menu was superb and they allowed us to switch a course out which not everywhere does.Sunday lunch was on the better side of good but not as outstanding as the tasting menu.Slightly tricky to find the reception from the back car park with us and another couple getting lost and almost walking into a wedding but we enjoyed the wander.Book for a special occasion and enjoy the service.
Such a quirky hotel. We absolutely loved our stay here. Visited as a birthday treat. The decor is so funky and fun, full of surprises. Our room was a little small but still loved it. On arrival we got a glass of champagne and then also a bottle in our room. We ate in the Thai restaurant which was to die for! The massaman was delicious. Staff was really friendly, especially a man who served us in the restaurant, he new a lot about different types of wine and gave us many recommendations. Definitely worth a visit!Abstloved the little farm shop as well, some really lovely food in there. We also had a massage which was amazing.
A beautiful, quirky hotel with lovely, well kept grounds. Our daughter’s wedding was held there last week and I can only say that the facilities and staff added to what was a perfect day. From arrival with champagne and canapés, the wedding breakfast and throughout the evening the staff were incredible; attentive yet discreet and extremely professional.A special mention for Karen, the Head of Housekeeping, for her tireless work with all the pre-wedding preparations. She was the perfect calming influence and nothing was too much trouble. Any questions, queries or concerns were dealt with calmly and efficiently.A huge thank you to you all.
One of the worst hotel experiences of my life! The rooms are tiny, made worse by the velvet walls which made the place much more stuffy, and the bathroom doesn’t even have a separate shower so when you take a shower the whole bathroom is wet. There are two restaurants which are also incredibly tiny and cramped and where you dine elbow to elbow with the tables next to you. The food was mediocre at best. I felt so claustrophobic that I stayed only one night and left early. For the price, there are much better places. Having said that, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the outdoor design is nice - which is a bit useless in London given that only 2/12 months is actually warm enough to be outdoors (no heating other than in the outdoor dining area). Never again.
We went for the Thai experience here. It is very quirky and opulantly decorated. The service is exceptional and that really makes you feel special. The food however, I would say was OK. Not amazing as you would expect and the duck in our main course was overcooked, which was a disappointment.
Only went for a birthday meal celebration with friends. The 7 courses was incredibly tasty and they were able to accommodate one of the group with dietary requirements. You can sample their extensive wine list, if you can afford it, or stick to a good pint of real ale if you want. The setting and decor is definitely somewhat different to most pubs and restaurants. So if you want a new experience I would definitely recommend it.
Really nice restaurant and a bit different. We went for Thai and both had the beef massaman which was absolutely delicious! We went at lunchtime (1.30pmand werent rushed off. Would definitely visit again.
Well what can I say this place has an amazing reputation and Im pleased to say that it did not disappoint. In the moment we arrived for the crazy double-decker bus reception the Secret Garden to the rooms to the sweetie we stayed in the attention to detail is absolutely amazing if youre looking for someone a little bit eclectic, zany and crazy this is the place to be and stay. The three course meal we had was absolutely amazing the wine choice was incredible. As much as I looked and tried I really could not find anything to fault anywhere air and I definitely recommend it if youre looking for somewhere special and different to go for a weekend break or an overnight or even just an evening out.. well done Crazy Bear for setting the incredibly high standard that you do.
Lovely English restaurant. Best steak I’ve ever had. Carrots side are sublime (must have)! Recommend any steak lovers to come here for a special occasion as it is a bit on the pricey side!
Lovely food, great staff. Particularly enjoyed the steak and soup on the tasting menu, pleasantly surprised by the frozen berries. Really let down by the toilets. It was the first impression and really poor. The ladies toilet seemed to have a leak and the floor was covered in urine. The dryers didnt work. The toilet was horrid and pit a dampner on the overall view.
Crazy bear exceeded my expectations! I was a bit dubious/worried about going here for dinner, especially on a wowcher voucher for the 7 course English option and after reading some of the negative reviews. Well I neednt have been worried, the decor is is beautifully quirky, the staff were very friendly and attentive and the food came at a good pace and was perfect, the only niggle for me was the frozen berries as it they were too cold on my teeth, but it does say frozen berries on the menu so its not like I didnt know what to expect. Overall had a great evening and am looking forward to coming back.
I visited a few days ago, deco was lovely most staff were very welcoming, apart from 1 Woman, possibly Manager (Bob haircuthence 1 star down… But the reason I went was for the massage, the masseuse (mamwas such a lovely lady, so good at the job, very bubbly and polite! I’d definitely visit again, definitely sorted my sciatica out! So a huge thank you to her :)!
One of many visits over the years. Enjoyed another wonderful evening at this fantastic venue, that never fails to make a statement. We savoured the 10 course Thai tasting menu, so delicious. Food, music, decor, service and overall atmosphere was just lovely. Well worth our 1.5hr drive 😊 and looking forward to visiting again, hopefully soon!
Recently attended their masquerade ball and was very disappointed. There were 400+ people and a tiny dance floor where the entertainment performed. Youd only be able to enjoy the acts if you were lucky enough to get a table next to it. Not enough room to dance. Long queues for very average food. I expected more for the money from a 5 star hotel.
