The Commodore Restaurant & Bar - Restaurant in Kirkwall, United Kingdom
Atmosphere and entertainment was amazing and very friendly, bar staff were polite, would definitely recommend
Love the new look of the pub. Great food very attentive and friendly staff. 5out of 5 from me !
My sister in law and I had afternoon tea at The Commodore today. Wow... we had an amazing time. The sandwiches and wraps were beautiful. Lots of filling too. The scones were lush with the clotted cream and jam π and the cake selection was fab. It was all so amazing we even had to take home what we had left. Im sure my brother enjoyed them. Thank you. We had a beautiful tile. Xx π
Fantastic setting overlooking oulton broad. Very friendly and accommodating staff, lovely atmosphere and great food. Loved it!
We visited this evening for a birthday meal. There were ten of us so I am sure it was a bit of a handful juggling but our server was just wonderful. She even noticed my son enjoyed the guacamole so brought us extra! She went above and beyond and thats the level of service we just dont see elsewhere. The food was also incredible. We will certainly be back!
Always a good atmosphere whenever we visit.
Great views of Oulton Broad from inside the pub with its huge (openingwindows and the very large back garden. Good sized carn park
What a fantastic place to eat. Great food, great location with the marina nearby, staff very friendly and they made sure we were looked after especially our dog. When we visit again we will definitely come back here and I recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet drink or something to eat
Enjoyable but still dont like having meal outside from a cardboard box. Even is food itself is great.
This pub restaurant was very friendly and the food was lovely and cooked and presented well..The view is beautiful over the broads. Certainly will return
Lovely Bistro pub on Oulton Broad. Alot safer for the smaller humans in our lives now with a fence blocking off the water.Food is fantastic, feed the kids for Β£1 in the summer holidays π food for the kids is better than most serve at home so get amongst it!Class for freinds and family to get together ππ»
We were staying in Suffolk for a few days and this was our favourite pub. The staff are friendly and the view of the river is amazing. Lots of lovely swans and boats bobbing around in the river. It was only open in the day time when we visited but it has a lovely sunny garden going down to the river. We visited everyday on our holiday and wish it was our local pub.
This place is good to go for a drink in the sun, close to the broads . Strange not to get plates when ordering food to eat outside but was OK in take away boxes, just in case you want to leave, we will be going again as atmosphere is very good.
Really odd arrangement where if you sit outside, you get a (much restrictedmenu to choose from. The day we visited they had no wraps or pizzas. Food took way too long to come out and was just average.
Steak was over done (I asked for medium and got well doneand veg was cold on delivery but my husband and daughters burgers were good. My mum had the cheeze and beetroot tart and said it was great. Dad wasnt too impressed with his fish batter but was otherwise happy.Venue is excellent with choice of indoor or outdoor eating - though the menu varies also with that choice. Choice of drinks was also very good including guest ciders and varied and large gin menu.
The foods nice, lovely staff and good view but a few problems: Took a very long time for the food to come out. Also if you sit outside the menu is different to if you sit inside more limited selection outside. One of my relatives asked for medium rare for there steak and no mushrooms and ended up a overcooked steak and mushrooms.
The Sunday roast is a thing of beauty! Canβt fault it for the food/view over Oulton broad. Currently have peroni and birra moretti on tap, 11/10 π
We came here this evening for our wedding anniversary. The staff were lovely and welcoming, the food was delicious and the views were flippin special. We ate upstairs and then went into the garden for drinks, it was absolutely buzzing! Totally coming back soon!
I loved this restaurant. The food was delicious, staff was friendly. Our server, Fin, was a very delightful person to have as a server, very friendly and helpful and very on top of his job.
Lovely surroundings. Right by the river. Great selection of food. Highly recommend
Location and views are very nice. Sadly the prices have shot up to ridiculous levels clearly aiming to fleece tourists to the max. Food is also expensive yet served in cardboard boxes! Very limited drink selection. Ok for a quick drink but better options available elsewhere. Will need a reality check to survive the winter.
Lovely views as always but since new management ...not very friendly, food not so good
Im afraid to say that this may have been the worst pub sandwich I have ever been served.I ordered the Chicken Club. The first hurdle was that apparently that can only ordered indoors. It wasnt immediately obvious why the Fried Chicken Sandwich could make it the extra 2 metres but the chicken club could not. I moved inside. When the sandwich arrived, it became apparent that this may have been to avoid the embarrassment of their neighbours seeing it.The description is "A double-decker toasted white farmhouse sandwich, layered with chicken, crispy streaky bacon, avocado, tomato, mixed leaves and mayo".It was decidedly not this. The "crispy streaky bacon" was not crispy, not streaky and not recognisably bacon. Id have assumed it was cold Tesco Value ham. I havent the heart to describe the texture. The avocado simply wasnt there, with no warning while ordering. The chicken was presumably present, despite the slight feeling it had been substituted with a poultry scented candle. The mayo was the star of the show by being merely "as expected".For masochists, experiencing this will cost you Β£8.50, with no sides. That sandwich really was a zero star. But the pint of Doom Bar was nice, as was the building and the environment, so I feel it needs 2.
Fish was very nice, think I got the bottom of the chip bag as lots of scraps and small portion, a few more would not of cost them much. The Beer was not to my liking, I discussed this with the duty manager ( I thinkand he was of the opinion real ale should be without gas in it. As they did not gas it. Secondary fermentation should mean the beer has some life in it.He was helpful but I feel the standards have dropped since the new owners took over.Business traveler so visit many places.GONE DOWN HILL. Standard darling
Lovely position on river. Helpful efficient staff. Downside was food. Lasagne was microwave offering, it was hot+ cheese on top was not brown, sat in a pool of brown liquid with sad portion of salad. The burgers and chips were good. Think maybe they should stick to basics with chips. We have been previously to pubs in this chain and food was excellent. Since change of ownership think should look at menu and offer less choice but better quality. We would come again and hope food has improved.
I think the best pub In Oulton Broad, we visitied here about 3 times with our dog while staying nearby over the summer. Very friendly to both people and dogs. Large beer garden directly on the lake. Good selection of beers on tap.
Under new management and itβs gone from quite good to really poor. On a Saturday night hardly anyone there. Food was twice the price of Witherspoons but not as good. Staff didnβt seem to care. Will not return.
Easily the worst food and drink Iβve had anywhere in the last 4 years. Expensive, greasy, fabulously uncomfortable outdoor tables. Incredible the place remains open.
Too expensive on the drinks and food is not good. Shame as this was a great pub under the previous management with good food and reasonable priced drinks. Come back Moss & Co.
Very pleasant lunch outside in the sunshine.all covid restrictions adhered to and 2 meter distancing, but still very "almost "normal feel. staff very pleasant and attentive, with very clean surroundings. Update .went there for dinner this evening ,nice pleasant pub type food ,nicely cooked well presented and although you could tell they were short of staff we were still looked after. Very pleasant!
Difficult to rate the Commodore properly as we failed to eat here. Arrived at 8.30, went in to check that they were still serving, were handed menus and told we still had about 20 min to order as the kitchen closed at 9pm (we had already checked this on their website). As a family of 6 including a wheelchair user we found a table and went to the bar at 8.40 and were told by the manager the kitchen was now closed. Seemed pretty non-negotiable and unhelpful, very disappointing!
Was surprised how empty it seemed on Sunday lunchtime but we had very good meal. Lamb shank was great though maybe a little too much ha .....
Very nice pub next to the river.
Worst chicken burger ive ever had. However best day of my life. You cant have the rainbow without the rain.
Very different under the new owners, and not for the better. Staff very friendly, manager too (or itβd have been one star). But they donβt train their bar staff and manage kitchen quality and stock. There are only 5 cocktails in the menu now, and in fairness we did get the second espresso martinis done perfectly. The lady serving first time had never been trained and itβs not fair to have a go at her. Manager arranged a replacement FOC when we came back for evening meal as we were on a mooring. Evening meal steak poor, and with so much gristle on the plate youβd have expected a comment. Next door ordered linguineβ¦ and they had none (! Really). We tried to book a table and a mooring the Sunday beforeβ¦ table no issue, but phone handed over to another member of staff who said βwe donβt have moorings at this pubβ. So we initially cancelled. I read the mixed reviews since the new owners and thoughtβ¦ letβs go, the Commodore is excellent. Got there and all moorings free. Looking good - but short lived. Honestly, really, itβs now a far cry. Nowadays a pub chain menu like a lot of other places on broads. Setting as great as ever. Like I said, lovely staffβ¦ but such missed potential.
Very rude staff who thinks his all hard when leaving his shift. Dont think I will return for a while. I did get the name of staff member which was Lee.. he didnt know what he was doing and I had not seen him in the past.Decides to cause a lot of issues once finished work. smoking weed and making himself look all hard. Does not look good on the company whats so ever!
This is my first visit since the change of ownership. Still a great venue. Parking, selection of beers, with pleasant staff. Huge outdoor area with many tables overlooking beautiful Oulton Broad. Wife and I had lunch which we felt was better than previous owners. Only one small personal gripe, there is an option for gratuity when paying by card. Why would anyone give a tip BEFORE sitting down and getting your meal?
Lovely pub under new management. Seems to made the place a lot better and food amazing! Five stars βοΈ
Disappointing, food was mediocre and overpriced for the quality.Beautiful views across oulton broad. Was a shame as it was my husbands birthday.
A family meal at the end of May for five adults and three children. Upstairs dinning with good views overlooking the water. We all enjoyed our main courses and generally the desserts, only slight disappointment was that the hot desserts were only just warm but all very tasty. This was our first visit but would certainly return.
A little bit on the pricey side but its worth every penny for the atmosphere that there always is in this place. The staff are super friendly and the service has never been bad.On a nice evening it is absolutely gorgeous to sit outside by the river and watch the sail boats, canoes, paddleboards etc, while you enjoy a drink with your friends and family. Its a dog friendly pub as well which is ALWAYS a win in my book! They keep treats for your dog at the bar :-)
My second visit after moving to the area only a week ago. Tried a few bars but this appears to be the best.Sat outside overlooking the water with the sun going down. Its a really nice place with new ownership. Dog friendly as well. The service was good and staff very friendly. Will visit again, thank you.
Loved it used to visit every other weds with my retired friends. We used to be able to order small meals as we dont have big appetites. Sadly they stopped it.
Still a good place for a drink but had a poor roast dinner today. Turkey was the sliced stuff you get in sandwiches and the roasties were definitely fresh out of the freezer. Wouldve sent it back but I was beyond hungry. Lad who tidied our plates didnt even ask if we enjoyed our meals because from the amount we left, we clearly didnt. So disappointing. 2* for the food but 4* for a drink.
Couldnt fault the food. Really nice. Could do with another member of staff in the upstairs restaurant though but overall very nice.
Nice outdoor area and view over the water.Unfortunately food wasnt up to scratch as far as Sunday roasts were concerned to the point where we complained (the vegetables looked and tasted like they came out of a frozen bag).Apparently this was a new menu the server offer by way of excuse, however a roast seems pretty straight forward and cant imagine it has changed so much from any prior Sunday roasts they offeredTo be fair, the cost of the roasts were taken off. Shame though, because youre not going out for a free meal you dont like, but one you would rather pay for..
Parked up, walked in and settled in straight away with the freindly atmoshere and well kept surroundings.Looked along the bar and it was the usual Brit beers and a few of the Real Ales and the mainstream spirits on the shelves.Got served and went upstairs for the Bar with a view over the Broad, as per British weather it was grey overcast and chucking it down, thankfully the view was through large windows, so stayed warm n dry.Checked out a menu and ordered up some food, Chicken in a Bucket and the Trouble(Wifehad a Burger that was too big so she dismantled it to eat it.Beer well kept, so obviously know their stuff behind the bar, food good quality and value for money, view was good and better if the sun was out, facilities well kept and clean. If Im in the area again Ill definately go back for a beer and a munch, but on a Sunny and dry day when we can make use of the Beer Garden overlooking the water.Keep up the good work people you have great place.
Really lovely place. Went there for lunch and had the chicken in a bucket which was so good. Soooo many chips I couldnt eat them all but all well worth the price. There was a young lad and young girl that served us and they were really nice, really helpful. Really nice atmosphere and all covid rules in place.
Good views but a limited menu at the moment due to covid Im told. They got my lunch order wrong and the cider was a bit warm
Lovely pub in a great location. Food is very good and nicely presented and plentiful! Nice seating area overlooking the broads. Highly recommend a visit.
