The Coal Pot Restaurant - Seafood restaurant in Castries, Saint Lucia
Head to the Coal Pot for an intimate and romantic dinner. Finding it was a little tricky since you feel like you are heading to a dead end alley with closed up buildings along the way. Tucked to the back you will come down to the water and find the restaurant like a little glowing treasure. We absolutely adored the vibe and decor. Loved the candlelight and artist work that was seen throughout. So glad we saved this spot for our last night visiting the island. The service was fast and friendly. Our table had the crab back and cheesy seafood dip (it had a name I wasn’t familiar with). We had snapper, ribeye and mahi mahi and all were amazing. We finished with the chocolate cake and cream brûlée and they were both fantastic. The serving portions for the main course are substantial and we couldn’t finish all of the food.Several of us chose mix drinks and my only advice would be to offer more of a selection since all of them were fruity/tropical choices.
The view alone makes this place worth the visit but thats not all!!! The environment in the restaurant is open, warm and welcoming. The staff is so attentive and friendly which is absolutely appreciated! They may not get it right 100% of the time but theyre always so gracious and ready to help and fix anything that might be a problem. The food is definitely everything you could want and more! I can only speak to the fish meal options but theyll definitely leave you wanting to come back and try each and every fish with each and every sauce option they offer 😍😍😍A beautiful experience overall, would visit again in a heartbeat 😊
this restaurant is brilliantly awesome staff are nice and courteous excellent little hideaway by I guess what is a marina. dine and see the fish swimming.now there are not enough stars on Google to fully explain the quality flavours that adorned my pallet as it made its way into my stomachexcellent place
First of all the food is really good! Everything was so delicious 😋. The ambiance was amazing, I really loved the shallow waters where you could see several little fish swimming....it was just a lovely view. The service was excellent, the staff were very patient and helpful. My favorite part of my meal was the duck with the mushroom sauce.
Excellent food (I had the tunaand the waitress was incredibly helpful.
Awesome experience taking in the sound of calm waters and delicious food
Visited here due to a recommendation from a fellow traveler I met in St. Lucia. Delicious food and drinks!
Great food in a romantic setting. We loved eating dinner right on the water.
A little hard to find, but absolutely worth it. Great service, location and outstanding food. The large shrimp dish with coconut curry sauce is the best meal Ive had on Saint Lucia yet.
The lovely folks here let us join the lunch hour without reservations and it did not disappoint. Probably the best meal I had on the island thus far! Get the main plate with coconut curry - anything, lobster shrimp, fish, anything - with this sauce will be incredible. You almost miss this spot because it’s tucked away, but it’s a treasure worth looking for. Can’t recommend enough!
Wonderful restaurant tucked away in a cove (definitely off the beaten path). The food was great, the service was great, the place had a very tranquil atmosphere, and the view was really nice. My wife and I went twice during our visit to Saint Lucia. I very much recommend.
We loved this restaurant so much, we went back a second time the week we stayed in Castries! The atmosphere and lighting are so intimate and romantic, and located right on the water’s edge, it was enchanting! The entire staff went above and beyond to be accommodating and gracious, from the call I placed for reservations, to the dinner service, to helping us track down a lost credit card the next day: everyone was endlessly polite and helpful. And the food! I won’t name the establishment, but our meals at The Coal Pot far exceeded in flavor those at a well-advertised resort and restaurant located in the Sufriere area. We were so enamored by our experiences here, my husband and I dined at the sister restaurant, The Pink Plantation, for lunch; it was a completely different ambiance but the same memorable experience and delicious cuisine. Don’t miss out on these Lucian dining jewels!
The BEST meal on the island. Make your way here sit and enjoy.
Delicious soup, appetizers and meal. Chicken came with choice of sauce, mixed vegetables, eggplant and cheese, cooked cabbage and fried potatoes. We had pumpkin soup and le croquet appetizer which were delicious but could not eat all of our meal as we had appetizers and didn’t know we were getting sides with the meal. Highly recommend
My husband and I, while we try to be adventurous we are first to admit we bail as soon as things don’t seem/look right/safe. I am so glad we didn’t bail on dinner tonight. The road getting there was a little off and when we pulled into the parking lot it just seemed like a shack. But we ventured toward it and the warm inviting light inside. We were greeted by lovely people and the ambience of the restaurant was so inviting. Now the view we were right on the water it was beautiful and quiet and so serene. I haven’t even gotten to the food portion. What an amazing meal and service we had. The servers were quick to help make suggestions and tell you about their menu and the meal we had was by far one of the best things I’ve eaten in a very long time. It was so fresh and everything came out hot and you could tell a lot of pride and effort went into the food. 10/10 would recommend! Don’t let it’s outside keep you away from this place!
So we were on vacation searching for a local specialty called Callalloo soup. We were referred to this restaurant. We got there and they were between lunch and dinner, so they only did take out..at least we were told at first..I started walking around the restaurant and recording it on video because it was so beautiful, and the ocean is literally 3 feet from some of the tables. As I was narrating I came up to a woman sitting alone at the most beautiful spot in the restaurant. She asks "Is someone helping you?" I said yes, we are getting Callalloo soup to go..she said "NO, and told the staff to give us her table, and asked why we were not accomodated." She was the owner! VERY sweet lady. The staff, service, and ESPECIALLY the restaurant were impeccable. Everything is off the grill. I started with an amazing shrimp cocktail, then on to chicken in the best peppercorn sauce Ive ever had. Even the veggies were great. Ive never had potatoes that were seasoned and cooked so perfectly. The bread was fantastic. Just YUM. We also ordered the fish covered in crab. Everything was amazing. This restaurant was way more than just finding Callalloo soup (which was the best by the way, loved dipping the buttered bread in it), it was one of those life changing moments, an experience that I will never forget. You would be foolish to pass this up. Treat yourself, and please go!
Relaxing sea side dining with view of crystal clear water and free swimming fishes. Nice spot for a quiet lunch.
Great food. Great ambience. The server was extremely kind, funny, and accommodating. All the fish is great, but they also make a very nice vegetarian plate when asked. They also made my daughter’s birthday extra special with balloons and a sparkler in her cake. Thanks!
Scenery and location are amazing and beautiful. Food is just “ok,” not standout, good for st Lucia comparison but overpriced, makes you feel a bit used. Service extremely slow, 2+ hour lunch, around $375EC for 2.
Amazing location right next to the water in a working marina. A little tough to find, but if youre on a narrow dirt road, youre probably close. Food was good, but not my favorite on the island. Super friendly staff, menu changes by whats available.
The portions are totally disproportionate to the price (more than 100 EC for 5(!shrimps is totally overpriced). A tourist trap. The owner was very unpleasant and focused on wealthy customers who represents some significant income. Well definitely never go back.
We went here for lunch and the food was great. We both had fish with veg and rice, but the meals were a good size and had a variety of delicious sides. This was one of the best meals we had on the island. It walking from virgie beach, although the road is fairly isolated and unlit so might be not be ideal at night.
Lovely little restraunt outside of Casteries. We had the jumbo shrimp and dordogne. Both came with a selection of sides and a sauce. All delicious and full of flavour. With a glass of wine, a bottle of water and espresso it was £60. Slightly pricey for lunch for totally worth it.Would recommend going for lunch so you can enjoy the beautiful view across the water. Its down a long, dark road so would recommend a cab if going for dinner. Check opening times - it closed at 7pm on Monday and we were planning on revisiting for dinner.
Beautiful setting but extremely limited menu and extortionately expensive for what you get. Pretty bland flavour wise and unfortunately both my husband and I were very ill with food poisoning the following day. Go for a drink but thats all. Overall- a bit of a racket.
Very nice atmosphere. Staff and owner are very nice. Our table was next to the water.
Great place. If you are staying nearby a must! Food was excellent. Service was also wonderful.
Had such a lovely dinner here the other night. Great vibes and very fresh fish. Would go back again if we were staying longer!
Really a special place with very amazing food, service, and atmosphere. I was blown away by the pumpkin soup, and I am known to be a strict carnivore.
Absolutely fabulous food and service!! They make you feel welcome, and genuinely want you here, everything was amazing. The food was SO GOOD, very flavorful and excellently cooked fish. Drinks were great as well. Waiters were so kind, polite, and funny. Would definitely recommend and I plan to come here again!
The food was nice. But over priced in my opinion. The service was subpar. Asked for water on three occasions and found it irritatingly laughable when asked if I wanted to add an additional tip to the bill when we had yet to receive water on the third request.
Amazing view of a calm, serene bay, exquisite cuisine and delightfully polite and friendly staff!
Amazing food! Lovely staff! Went sometime in May and only thing is their blender was down and didn’t have particular liquor so couldn’t get certain drinks I liked. Looking to come again.
First of all, I want to thank the manager, Andre’, for helping us with our delivery. We are staying at a nearby hotel, and he personally got in his car and drove us our order. My wife has food allergies and they accommodated her and made us delicious meals! She had the tuna and I had the chicken with coconut curry sauce. The food came hot and there was a large amount of food to satisfy our huge appetites. I cannot say enough about how much we appreciated the service and the absolutely delicious food. Definitely make this a part of your vacation. We both highly recommend it! Thank you again, Andre’, for giving us an excellent meal!
Been to St Lucia 11 times and this is another of my “must go to”every time places.Located on a harbour in Castries down a rough road is the Coal pot, open air dining right on the edge of the water, very dim lit and romantic.Definitely a couples place to go on a island known for romance.Serves mostly fresh seafood, all prepared the way you request it.The menu is on a chalk board as it changes based on the fresh catch that’s available that day.Every meal I have had here has been well presented and delicious from start to finish, the service is excellent with people checking on you and striking up conversationsThe only negative was from one of our servers that complained that the owner keeps the automatic service charge added to the bill meant for them..... so I tipped over and above....but on asking my driver was told I got hustled ..... 😂oh well!Overall it was a great night and they really took care of me with both service and providing an excellent meal! Will definitely go back on my 12th visit!
Good experience. Food was tasty with good portion size. Great view as well
Elegant but unpretentious. The menu features a wide range of seafood-fresh dorado, red snapper, and succulent shrimp. But the real draw is the crabback appetizer. Its spiced crab meat seasoned to perfection and stuff back into its shell and baked. Plates by local artist Michele Eliot graced the tables. If your lucky, the singing boat while pass through the cove with its selection of Neil Diamond songs. Seriously.
First and only visit was on March 2, 2019 and they did not disappoint. I had the pumpkin soup, king fish in Creole sauce, golden apple juice (June plume juice for Jamaicans)..everything was lovely. The ambiance was good, quiet, lovely view. Pace was just slow and relaxed...peaceful. I could hardly move after I finished eating. Food portion was a lot. And as a liver of bread, the started bread and butter was perfect. Overall service was good from the staff. They helped me to get a taxi back to the town as well. If you are travelling from the ship port in the town then its USD10 or 20EC each way. I am sure u can get for less with regular local taxi, but as a tourist I just work with that price.Safe travels 😊
Charming restaurant that is truly a waterfront dining experience. Great local fare and excellent value for money.
Amazing food and relaxed vibes..a short water taxi ride across from the cruise terminal. Worth the trip! Do it! Follow us on Instagram @OurIslandView
Amazing atmosphere, great food but not easy to find...
There is an amzing view from the restuarant, Im guessing on a dinner reservation you can capture the sunset, as for me i had a lunch booking. Latoya is a super amazing host, great personality and very accomodating. The chef is very friendly as well, came out and asked how we were doing. We were truly impressed. The photos of the meal speaks for itself...
This place is amazing. My wife and I vacationed to st. Lucia from the United States and we wanted to try something outside of our resort. We took a gamble and got a taxi to the coal pot. We sat right on the water in a little inlet. The location is perfect and the food was top notch. Would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting St. Lucia. I cannot remember what my wife had but I had the dorado with the garlic butter sauce. I cant brag enough. One thing though, all prices are in Caribbean dollars so if you do not know how to convert definitely download an app before you go.
Unassuming hidden away treasure spot that surprises and wows with excellent food quality and service, deservingly THE best restaurant in the region!
Cozy little place, quiet, right next to the water with a certain character. The menu varies on the catch of the day. The food was ok, the drinks were ok, the service was ok. Good place but not mindblowing.
Great food and scenery. Delicious and beautiful plates. Excellent services. Nice alcohol selection. Nice view of the harbor. Seafoods are yummy. Wait staff is attentive.
Absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The food is absolutely amazing. Friendly staff.
Amazing restaurant facing the harbour. Fish was spectacular, highly recommended. Plenty of space so no need to make a reservation. Great and helpful staff.
Wonderful food!! The fish was fantastic and their steak was great also. I would recommend the king fish as it is top notch and so tasty with just the right sauce. Their chef Andre knows how to cook and has found his calling! I would highly recommend this restaurant as its been one of, if not, the best place we have ate all week!
The food was great, however, please remember youre on Island time because service may take some time. The tables are well set up and the water view and cool breeze is wonderful. The staff worked hard to tend to our needs. And even though we waited to eat after ordering, the food was worth the wait once we received it. Happy eating....
This is a Great spot! Food, atmosphere and service terrific! Difficult to find if driving yourself. Service very nice and professional as well as friendly.
